MARY JO S. BROCKER

Mary Jo Shelnutt Brocker, 71, of 320 Hermitage Lane, Moncure, died Friday (01-02-2004) at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.

Funeral services were held at Monday (01-05-2004) at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel in Ramseur, conducted by Rev. Tim Strider.

She was a native of Wedowee, Al., and a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, William A "Bill" Brocker of the residence; sons, William A. Brocker, Jr., and Walter L. Brocker, both of Moncure; brothers: Doyle Shelnutt of Roanoke, Al., Sammy Shelnutt and James Shelnutt, both of Sylacauga, Al., Calvin Shelnutt of Birmingham, Al., Grady Shelnutt of Wedowee, Al., and George Shelnutt of Saint Charles, Missouri; sisters, Irma Boyd of Wedowee, Al., and Ada Hallman of Sylacauga, Al.; and two grandchildren.

MARGARET LOCKHART

Margaret (Peg) Lockhart, 84, of Birmingham, Alabama, died Monday (12-29-2004).

Funeral services were held Saturday (01-03-2004)) at Morrison Funeral Home, Oil City, Pa., interment was in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens, Cranberry, Pa.

Survivors include children; Peggy Brewer (Leo) of Siler City, Sandra Snyder of Vancouver, Wash., John Lockhart of Birmingham, Al., and Cheryl Cotherman of York, Pa.; fourteen grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren children, and three great, great grandchildren.

BEATRICE SWAIN TUCKER

Beatrice Swain Tucker, 69, of 1571 Duck Pond Apartments, Creedmore died Saturday (01-03-2004) at her residence.

Graveside services were conducted Tuesday (01-06-2004)) at Chatham Memorial Park, Siler City by Rev. Kevin Stumbo.

Mrs. Tucker was a native of Buncombe County and a former resident of Siler City. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include husband, Porter Tucker of Creedmore; daughter, Gayle Gibbs of Franklinton; and one granddaughter.

GEORGE MABERN WALTERS

George Mabern Walters, 87, of 274 Lambert Chapel Road, Siler City died Saturday (01-03-2004) at Chatham Hospital.

Funeral services were conducted Monday (01-05-2004) at Oakley Baptist Church by Rev. J. R. Bouldin. Burial followed in Sandy Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was a native of Chatham County, a farmer and a member of Oakley Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughter, Bonnie W. Davis of Siler City; sons, Wayne Walters of Bonlee, Bennie Walters and Ed Walters of Bear Creek, Cecil Walters and Bill Walters of Siler City; sister, Alice Lowdermilk of McLeans-ville; fourteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and three, great-great grandchildren.

Memorials made be made to Sandy Branch Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 715 Sandy Branch Church Road, Bear Creek, N.C. 27207.

HARRY JAMES WILLIAMS

Harry James Williams, 80, of 2658 Hamp Stone Road, Siler City died Saturday (01-03-2004) at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro

Funeral services were held Monday (01-05-2004)) at Brookdale Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Queen officiating.

He was a native of Duplin County, a member of Brookdale Baptist Church, and a veteran of World War II. He was a retired mechanic, having worked for Chatham Motors for seventeen years.

Survivors include his wife, Geneva Jones Williams of Siler City; sons, Bobby Ray Williams of Siler City and Tony Grey Williams of Bennett; six grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Brookdale Baptist Church, P.O. Box 428, Siler City, N.C. 27344.

DOROTHY POE LANGLEY HAYES

Dorothy Poe Langley Hayes, 85, of 900 West Dolphin Street, Siler City died Sunday (01-04-2004) at Sun Bridge Care Facilities.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday (01-06-2004)) at Piney Grove United Methodist Church by Rev. Odell McBride. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County, a homemaker and a member of Siler City Pentecostal Victory Temple.

Survivors include daughters, Betty Jean Bowman of Graham, Ruby L. Rhew of South Boston, Va., Mary Merritt Rogers and Carolyn L. Faircloth, both of Burlington and Linda L. DeRosier of Snow Camp; sons, John Hubert Poe of Siler City, Roger Dale Langley of Staley, Roy Langley and Robert Langley, both of Liberty; brother, Billy Poe of Siler City; sister, Polly Dowd Duncan of Siler City; 21 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 20 stepchildren.

MARY J. MOORE

Mary Jo Stephens Moore, 91, of Mitchell-Hollingsworth Regional Nursing Center, Florence, died Wednesday (12-24-2003).

Funeral services were held Saturday (12-27-2003) at First Baptist Church, Albertville, Ala., with Rev. Charles Woods and Rev. Mike Johnson, officiating. Burial followed in Memory Hill Cemetery in Albertville.

She was a native of Keener, Ala. She graduated from Alabama College (now University of Montevallo) and received her master’s degree in home economics from Auburn University. She retired after 43 years as an educator.

Survivors include sons, Steve T. Moore of Glencoe, Dr. W. Hampton Moore of Florence; daughters, Mary Lee Moore and Laine Moore Williamson, both of Siler City; and five grandchildren.

Donations may be made to First Baptist Church, Albertville, Mitchell-Hollingsworth Regional Nursing Center for patient care, or the charity of your choice.

ANNIE TEAGUE FLYNT

Mrs. Annie Teague Flynt of Greensboro died Sunday (01-04-2004) at Moses Cone Hospital.

Funeral services were held Wednesday (01-07-2004) at First Baptist Church of Liberty with the Rev. Gene Booker officiating. Burial followed in Gilmore Memorial Park.

She was a native of Randolph County, a member of the First Baptist Church of Liberty, a member of the Eastern Star and a Librarian.

Survivors include son, William M. Flynt of Greensboro; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Liberty, P.O. Box 815, Liberty, N.C. 27298.

MARY HANEY HARRINGTON

Mary Haney Harrington , 84, of 648 Coleridge Road, Siler City died Saturday (01-03-2004) at Sun Bridge Care Facilities .

Private services will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Harrington was a native of Greenville County, SC, and a retired secretary with J. P. Stevens.

Survivors include husband, Daniel H. Harrington of Siler City; daughter, Joan Harrington Marino of Siler City; sons John Eric Harrington of Greensboro and Daniel Arthur Harrington of Butner; and one grandson.

MICHAEL SCOTT PEARCE

Michael Scott Pearce, 32, of 2108 Persimmon Circle, Clayton died Monday evening, December 29, 2003 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. He was a former Lance Corporal in the U. S. Marine Corps.

A service celebrating his life and homegoing was held Friday, January 2, 2004 at 11 a.m. in the Grey Stone Baptist Church, 2601 Hillsborough Road, Durham, N. C. Burial was in Apex Cemetery.

Survivors are his son, Justin D. Pearce of the home; father, Zebedee Pearce and wife, Grace of Pittsboro; mother, Brenda Sorrell and husband C. G. of Durham; two sisters, Lisa Pearce Jacobs and husband Andrew of Mebane, Stefanie Pearce of Pittsboro; maternal grandmother, Goldie Pearce of Durham; step-sister, DaNita Lehman; two step-brothers, Jason Sorrell and Chris Sorrell; and an uncle, Johnnie Gurley of Goldsboro.

Memorials may be made to the Marine Corps Toys for Tots, U. S. Marine Corps Reserves, 2725 Western Blvd, Raleigh, N. C. 27606.

MARGARET SHOTWELL FIELDS

Margaret Shotwell Fields, 84, of 3306 McLaurin Road, Bear Creek died at home, Tuesday, December 30, 2003.

Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2004 at Sandy Branch Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Robert Capps and Rev. Allen Overton. Burial followed in Sandy Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Fields was a native of Guilford County, a member of Sandy Branch Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvis (Buck) Fields.

Survivors include daughters, Patsy F. Harris and husband, Boyd of Bear Creek, Gail F. Petty and husband, Lacy and Denise F. Hamrick, both of Siler City; grandsons, Jeff Harris and wife, Mamie of Garner, Scott Harris and wife, Jennifer of Bear Creek, Isaac Petty of Siler City; great granddaughters Heather and Ashton Harris of Garner; sister, Iris Gilliland of Pleasant Garden; special friends, Alice Fields and Mary Burke, both of Bear Creek.

Memorials may be made to Sandy Branch Baptist Church Building Fund or Music Fund, 715 Sandy Branch Church Rd, Bear Creek, N. C. 27207.

EDITH LOVE CAMPBELL

Edith Love Campbell, 85, of 1634 White Smith Road, Siler City died Wednesday, December 31, 2003 at Sun Bridge Care Facilities of Siler City.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 3, 2004 at Sapling Ridge United Methodist Church, Pittsboro, conducted by Rev. Lamont Hemminger. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Campbell was a loving mother and wife, a native of Alamance County, a homemaker, and a member of Sapling Ridge United Methodist Church.

Survivors include husband, Julian W. Campbell, Siler City; son, Keith Campbell and wife, Carolyn of Siler City; daughters, Janice C. Dixon and husband Bill of Siler City, Shelby C. McLaurin and husband, Clinton of Siler City; sister, Elizabeth Petty of Graham; brother, Jerome Love of Siler City; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

WILLIAM LESTER TEAL, JR.

William Lester Teal Jr., 77, of Raleigh, passed away peacefully after a long and happy life on December 30, 2003.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Carol Teal and Bill Wilson; his son and daughter-in-law, Richard (RC) and Kim Teal; his grandchildren, Rick Teal and Fiancée, Diana Kunkle, Krystin Teal and Fiancée, Chris Markham, Zachary Teal Wilson; his sister, Pauline Teal Childs, his sister and brother-in-law Gloria and George Truman; his sister-in-law Vicki Teal; many nieces and nephews; and by his "adopted son", Merton Bruce. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Jean Churchill Teal, and his beloved brother, Jennings Brooks Teal.

He was born in Anson County on March 19, 1926. He graduated from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill after serving in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He also graduated from the UNC Executive Program and was a licensed Certified Public Accountant. He was the controller for the Farmers Cooperative Exchange in Raleigh before moving to Lenoir, where he was the controller of Broyhill Furniture Industries. He later started Northwestern Marble Company in Lenoir. He and his wife returned to Raleigh in 1975 when he was appointed by Gov Jim Holshouser to serve on the NC Utilities Commission. After his service on the Utilities Commission, he co-founded Control General Corporation. He later served as the controller of the NC Department of Transportation.

He will be missed by his large extended family and many close friends. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Lemuel Yerby for his compassionate and skilled care during the last stage of his life and to the staff at Wake Medical Center and Cary Health and Rehab.

Funeral services, officiated by long time family friend and business partner, Ward Purrington, were held on Friday, January 2, 2004 in the Chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home. Burial, with Military Honors, followed at Raleigh Memorial Park.

Memorials can be made to the Direct Care Workers Association of NC, PO Box 37365, Raleigh 27627 in honor of the many people who assisted in his care over the years.
