MRS. MINNIE PETERSON SESSOMS
Mrs. Minnie Peterson Sessoms, 82, of 291 Joe Brown Road, Bear Creek died Friday, January 30, 2004 at Chatham Hospital.
Mrs. Sessoms was a native of Bladen County, a homemaker and the daughter of the late Perry Lee and Bessie Bee Faircloth Peterson. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Sessoms; son, Johnny Sessoms; grandsons, Jerry Sessoms and John Wayne Sessoms.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 2, 2004 in Butler Funeral Home with the Rev. Odell Peterson officiating. Burial followed at Salemburg Pentecostal Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery beside her husband and son.
Survivors include four daughters, Edith Lorraine Bonilla and husband Cesar of Bear Creek, Annie Grace Edwards and husband James of Roseboro, Nellie Gray Stewart and husband Jody of Four Oaks, Margaret Elaine House and husband Russell of Salemburg; three sons, Jackie Durwood Sessoms and wife, Donna of Bear Creek, Perry Junior Sessoms and wife, Brenda of Siler City, Bobby Wayne Sessoms and wife Audrey of Newton Grove; loving sister, Mary Kate Smith of High Point; 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
JOSEPH LON GRIFFIN
Joseph Lon Griffin, 34, of 317 North Dogwood Avenue, Siler City died Monday, February 2, 2004 at Chatham Hospital.
Memorial services were held Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at First Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Jim Wall and Rev. Ralph Brown.
Mr. Griffin was a native of Chatham County and a member of First Baptist Church where he was a member of the Young Adult Sunday School Class. He was a 1987 graduate of Jordan-Matthews High School and a 1993 graduate of Elon University. He was employed as a paramedic with First Health.
Survivors include his father, Bub Griffin of Siler City; step-mother, Jackie Tanner Griffin of Siler City; mother, Ada Lynn Andrews Rutledge and husband Steve of Clovis, Ca.; step-brothers, Andrew Rutledge, Stephen Rutledge, of Clovis, Ca, Tommy Griffin of Siler City; step-sister, Jaclyn Griffin of Siler City; step-grandparents, Jack & Maurice Tanner of Siler City; great uncle, Bill Hurst of Richmond Hill, Ga.

HENRY DONALD "DONNIE" ELLIS
Donnie Ellis, 51, of 351 Petty Road, Siler City died Sunday, February 1, 2004 at Chatham Hospital in Siler City.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 4, 2004, at White Cross Baptist Church in Staley by Rev. Edward Brown. Burial followed in Chatham Memorial Park, Siler City.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Brady Ellis of Siler City; daughters, Dana E. Berry of Siler City, Donna G. Ellis of Pittsboro; father, Bobby E. Ellis on Moncure; sisters, Cherie Sumner and Vicki Klomparens both of Pittsboro; brother, Kennie Ellis of Sanford; granddaughter, Anna Berry; six nieces, fifteen nephews; and mother-in-law, Edith Cheek Brady of Siler City.
Mr. Ellis was a native of Chatham County, attended White Cross Baptist Church where he was a member of the Sunday School Class. He was employed at MasterCraft Fabrics for 32 years. Mr. Ellis was a caring husband, father, son, brother, uncle, Pa Pa and a great friend to everyone. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Tripp Ellis.

VIOLA ANDREW BRAXTON
Viola Andrew Braxton, age 98, died Thursday, January 29, 2004 at her home.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, January 31, 2004 at First Friends Meeting with Becky Memmelaar officiating. Entombment followed at Guilford Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Mrs. Braxton had been a member of First Friends Meeting since 1942, where she was a Sunday school teacher, choir member and was active with various Meeting functions. She wrote the history of the First Friends Choir, was the writer of memorials for Meeting members, also was Meeting publicity chairman for many years. Braxton was a charter and life member of the NC Wildflower Society. She wrote the newsletter for the NC Wildflower Preservation Society for ten years and was a member for over 50 years. She was a member, past president, secretary, and project chairman for the Greensboro Wildflower Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband Walter B. Braxton, her parents, Julius Weldon Andrew and Nannie Zachary Andrew, three brothers and one sister.
Mrs. Braxton is survived by a niece, Edith Braxton Terry of Greensboro, grandniece, Pearl Woellner and husband Chuck of Greensboro; various other nieces and nephews.

REV. RONALD M. KISER
The Reverend Ronald M. Kiser, 56, of 345 Pritchard Road, Candler, died Wednesday, January 28, 2004 at his home.
Rev. Kiser was born in Randolph County and was a son of the late Robie and Mary Elizabeth Hayes Kiser. He graduated from Seagrove High School and attended Wingate College. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Gardner Webb and his Master of Divinity from the Southern Theological Seminary.
His first pastorate was at First Baptist Church in Seagrove after which he moved to Sandy Ridge Baptist Church in Hickory where he was associate pastor and then to Bonlee Baptist Church, Bonlee, N. C. where he served as pastor.
He moved to Asheville in 1983 and served as pastor of Morningside Baptist Church until he resigned in 1997 to take a position as an associate at the Bunbombe Baptist Association. In 2001 he became Director of Missions at the Association. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Brenda Davidson Kiser; one daughter, Elizabeth "Betsy" Brewer and her husband Jeremy of Pinehurst; one son, Lee Kiser and his wife Michelle of Candler; two grandchildren, MaKenzie Leigh Kiser and Ashley Nicole Kiser, both of Candler; two sisters, Dessie Needham of Asheboro and Grace Moore of Robbins; and two brothers, Coy Kiser and Dewey Kiser of Asheboro.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 31, 2004 at West Asheville Baptist Church with the Revs. Charlie Sams, Homer Green, Roger Mercer and the Rev. Dr. L. Wayne Adkisson officiating. Burial followed at Green Hills Cemetery.

ALTA GIBSON JUSTICE
Alta Gibson Justice, 76, of 213 South Sixth Avenue, Siler City died at Alamance Regional Hospital in Burlington, Saturday (01-31-2004).
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, (02-03-2004) at Loves Creek Baptist Church by Rev. Roy Helms. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Justice was a native of Surry County and a member of Loves Creek Baptist Church. She retired from Glendale Hosiery with 42 years of service.
Survivors include daughter, Judy Lutterloh of Graham; son, Randy Justice of Archdale; and four grandchildren.

ETHEL BROOKS COOPER
Ethel Brooks Cooper, 78, of 700 Red Oak Drive, Siler City died Saturday (01-31-2004) at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Funeral services were conducted at Oakley Baptist Church, Siler City on Monday (02-02-2004), with Rev. J. R. Bouldin. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Cooper was a native of Randolph County, and a member of Oakley Baptist Church. She had retired from Glendale Hosiery with 46 years service.
Survivors include son, Morris Cooper of Mebane; daughter, Debbie C. Cheek of Bennett; brothers, John Brooks of Ramseur, Bob Brooks of Siler City; sisters, Emogene Phillips of Siler City, Frances Spivey of Bear Creek; step-sister, Julia Lane of Bear Creek; and three grandchildren.

ELVA WILLIAMS JUSTICE
Elva Williams Justice, 85, of 5284 of NC Hwy 87N, died Friday (01-30-2004) at Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro.
Services were conducted Sunday (02-01-2004) at Browns Chapel United Methodist Church, by Rev. Ray Gooch and Rev. Chris Gambos. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Justice of Pittsboro; sister, Eunice Richardson of Burlington; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Mrs. Justice was a native of Alamance County, retired from Chatham Mills, Inc. and was a member of Browns Chapel United Methodist Church.
HERBERT (HUB) HAITH
Herbert (Hub) Haith, 73, of 1205 North Sears Avenue, Siler City died Monday (01-26-2004) at his residence.
Funeral services were conducted, Saturday (01-31-2004) at Rock Creek AME Church by Rev. Archie Evans. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Haith was a native of Alamance County and a retired construction worked.
Surviving is sister, Bernice Yvonne Whitmore of Mebane; brothers, Johnny Haith of Pittsboro and Douglas McArthur Haith of the home.
DR. WILLIAM W. MAGRUDER
Dr. William W. Magruder of Baltimore, Md., died Tuesday (01-13-2004)
A memorial service was held Saturday, January 17.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Marley Magruder, a former resident of Siler City; son, William W. Magruder of Baltimore; daughters, Rachel Magruder Allen, of Baltimore, Kathy Magruder of Isle of Palms, S.C.; three grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
DALE SCOTT
Dale Scott, 79, of 2509 NC Hwy 42S, Asheboro, died Saturday (01-31-2004), at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday (02-03-2004) at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Armstrong. Burial followed at Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro with Military Honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
Mr. Scott was a native of Chatham County, retired from Burlington Industries and served in the US Army during World War II. He was a member of Central Wesleyan Church where he was a former board member.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma Stokes Scott of the home; son, Danny Dale Scott of Asheboro; sisters, Louise Hegler of Beaver Creek, S.C., Dixie Holt of Siler City; brothers, William D. Scott of Goldston, Hoyt A Scott of Bear Creek, Robert C. Scott of Bennett; and one grandson.

MRS. HAZEL LAMON LANCHONEY
Mrs. Hazel Lamon Lanchoney, 8, of Creekside Apts., Pittsboro, died Sunday (02-01-2004) at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.
Mrs. Lanchoney was a native of Philadelphia, Pa. She retired from Univis Lens Mfg. and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday (02-06-2004) at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Pittsboro with Rev. Robert B. Way, Jr. and Rev. Ray Gooch. Interment will follow in St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Griffin funeral service & Cremation in Pittsboro.
Survivors include a daughter, Pat Belskie of Aberdeen; sisters, Grace Hill of Franklin, Ethel Eubanks of Ca., Laura Veroline of Murphy; brothers, Bill Lamon of Cape May, N.J., Walter Lamon of Fla., Jim Lamon of Vista, Ca.; and two grandchildren.
It was Mrs. Lanchoney’s desire that memorials be directed to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 20 Birchwood Drive, Pittsboro, N.C. 27312.
