VERNON OATES
Vernon Oates, 72 of Siler City died Saturday, (09-11-2004) at SunBridge Care.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday (09-14-2004) at Pleasant Grove Christian Church with Rev. Chris Wood and Rev. Kenneth Huggins officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Oates was a Randolph County native, a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church, and a retired poultry farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Harris Oates of SunBridge Care in Siler City; sons, Randall Oates, Bill Oates, and Ricky Oates, all of Bennett, Tim Oates of Mebane; sister, Dorothy Cox of Greensboro; Brothers, Fred Oates and John Oates, both of Greensboro; twelve grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

GURTHA LORENE CLARK
Gurtha Lorene Clark, 79, of New Hill died Saturday, (09-04-2004) at Laurels of Chatham.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday (09-07-2004) at Liberty Chapel Church in Moncure with Rev. Norma Bryant officiating. Burial followed in Carolina Biblical Gardens in Garner.
Mrs. Clark was educated in the Chatham County Schools and studied at Shaw University. She was an employee of Durham Life Insurance Company, Chatham County Fair and Chatham County Home Demonstration Club.
She is survived by her husband, Harry Clark, of the home: son, Phillip Taynon Clark of Pittsboro, Harry Oliver Clark of Pittsboro, Gregory Clark of Raleigh; five grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
LINDA DIANE COTTEN
Linda Diane Cotten, 55, of Pittsboro died Thursday (09-02-2004) at Moses Cone Hospice Care.
Memorial services were held at 7 p.m., Friday, (09-10-2004) at Knotts Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Mark Rodgers officiating.
Mrs. Cotton attended Horton School.
Survivors include a son, Jeffrey Brian Cotten; sister, Deborah Fexwell, Austin, Tx.; brothers, John Jr. Cotton of Liberty, Jimmy Cotton, Pittsboro, Sammy Cotton, Fayetteville; and two granddaughters.
DAVID J. “Buddy” HOYLE
David J. “Buddy” Hoyle, 60, of Asheboro died Sunday (09-12-2004) at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
Memorial service was held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, (09-15-2004) at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel in Ramseur with Rev. Edwin Self officiating. Visitation was held Wednesday afternoon from 3:30 to 5 pm at Loflin Funeral Home.
Mr. Hoyle was a native of Randolph County and employed at Crawford Knitting Company.
Survivors include his wife, Betsy Prevost Hoyle of the home; daughter, Kimberly Spivey of Siler City; stepson, Jeffrey Scott Provost of Lexington; brothers, Russell Hoyle of Liberty, Clyde Hoyle of Lake Placid, Fla., Claude Hoyle and Roy Hoyle, both of Lincolnton; sisters, Dorothy Kimrey and Shirley Sadler, both of Staley; Mildred Purro, Boynton Beach, Fla., and Pat Caskey of Lincolnton; four grandchildren, and three step-grandchildren.

GAIL LORRAINE McLAUCHLIN
Mrs. Gail Lorraine McLauchlin, 67, of Fayetteville, N.C. died Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at Cape Fear Valley Medical, Fayetteville, N.C.
Graveside services were held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 12, 2004 at Goldston Community Cemetery with Rev. James Summey officiating.
Survivors include her husband, John D. McLauchlin, Jr. of the home; daughter, Kimberly Gail Kotov and husband Sergei Kotov of New York, N.Y.; sons, Eric S. McLauchlin and fiancée, Sherry C. Owens of Fayetteville, N.C., John D. McLauchlin, III and wife, Penny L. of Clinton, N.C.; brothers, Denny C. McCuiston of Wrightsville Beach, N.C., John McCuiston of Burlington, N.C.; sister, Jackie Potts of Atlanta, Ga.; granddaughters, Jennifer D. McLauchlin and Kyla A. McLauchlin of Clinton, N.C.
LARRY WAYNE COCKMAN
Larry Wayne Cockman, 61, of 17370 NC Hwy. 902, Bear Creek, died Friday, September 10, 2004 at First Health-Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.
Funeral services and burial were held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, September 13, 2004 at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, Bear Creek with Rev. Darrell Garner officiating.
Mr. Cockman was a native of Chatham County, a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church, and employed with Linrene Furniture of Siler City. He was preceded in death by his mother Alberta Phillips Cockman.
Survivors include his wife, Bronna Buckner Cockman of Bear Creek; daughter, Terri C. Ritter and husband, Chad of Bennett; father, Alex A. "Babe" Cockman of Bear Creek; brother, Rickey Cockman and wife, Lisa of Bear Creek; sisters, Judy Kidd and husband, Wendell of Bennett, Janice Phillips and husband, Ronnie of Bear Creek; and special nieces and nephews.

MRS. DOLLY AUSTIN LEE
Mrs. Dolly Austin Lee, 88, of Siler City died Monday (09-13-2004) at SunBridge Care Nursing facility in Siler City.
A graveside service was held Wednesday at 11:00 am at the Tyndall-Spell Cemetery with Rev. Mike Shook officiating.
Mrs. Lee, a former resident of Clinton was a retired home caregiver.
Survivors include sons, Herman Lee of Eagle Spring, James Grady Lee of Wilson, Morris Lee of Siler City; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
MR. GEORGE WATSON
Mr. George Watson, 89, of Siler City died at his residence on Monday, (09-13-2004).
Funeral services will be held Thursday, (09-16-2004) at 3:00 p.m. at Glovers Chapel A.M.E.Zion Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Avelee Watson of the home; daughter, Ruby Williams; sons, George Watson, Jr., Rev. Clyde Watson, Colester Watson, and James Watson, all of Siler City; and brother, Clyde Watson of Siler City.
The family will be receiving friends at the family home at 5011 Rives Chapel Road, Siler City. There will be no wake.
MRS. EDITH FEARRINGTON WILLIAMS
Mrs. Edith Fearrington of Sanford died Sunday, (09-12-2004).
Funeral services will be held Thursday, (09-16-2004) at Barbee’s Chapel Church with burial at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Survivors include Earl Williams of Sanford; sisters, Margaret Stone of Carrboro, Bettie Fearrington-Sadler of Durham; brother, Eddie Fearrington of Greensboro; daughters, Sandra Small of Chicago, IL., Gwendolyn Powell of Harker Heights, TX., Wanda Harris of Pittsboro, Celeste Burnett of Fayetteville, Chequitha Council of Harker Heights, TX.; sons, Gregory Dukes of High Point, Alan Fearrington of Chapel Hill, and Stanley Fearrington of Pittsboro; thirteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
REVEREND WARREN GEORGE THOMAS
Rev. Warren George Thomas, 81, died Monday, August 30, 2004 at Laurels of Chatham healthcare Center in Pittsboro,
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, (09-03-2004) at New Hill First Baptist Church in New Hill with Rev. James Clanton officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Rev. Thomas was a native of Chatham County, graduated from Horton High School, Pittsboro in 1943. He pastored Barbee’s Chapel in Chapel Hill for eleven years.
His survivors include daughters, Brenda Hewett of Supply, Elaine Joyner of Apex, Janet Johnson of Baltimore, Md.; sons, Wickie Thomas, Venson Thomas of San Pedro, CA., Bruce Thomas of Chapel Hill, Eric Thomas of New Hill and Steve Thomas of North Hollywood, CA.; brother, Baxter Thomas of Fayetteville; sisters, Rita Richardson and Vivian Freeman of Pittsboro; sixteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
IVEY BLAND MITCHELL
Ivey Bland Mitchell, 89, of Pittsboro died Sunday (09-12-2004) at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
She was a native of Chatham County and a homemaker.
A graveside service was held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, (09-14-2004) in New Elam Christian Church Cemetery, with Rev. Kelly Shifflet officiating.
Surviving are daughters, Carolyn Pendergraft of Apex, Elaine Lasater of Pittsboro; son, Ronnie Mitchell of Mt. Olive; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
MRS. SABRY ANN STEVENSON
Mrs. Sabry Ann Stevenson, 52, died Sunday, (08-22-2004) in Siler City.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday (08-28-2004) at Vaughn C. Green Funeral Home in Baltimore, Md. Burial followed in Baltimore.
Mrs. Stevenson was a graduate of Jordan-Matthews High School and employed by Wal-Mart of Siler City.
Survivors include her husband, David Stevenson of Baltimore, Md.; daughter, Sheketia Brice of Baltimore, Md.; sisters, Earnesta Jones, Elizabeth Ridley, Eleanor Snipes, Linda Byrd, all of Baltimore, Md., Lois Sutton, Margaret Johnson, both of Siler City, Barbara Jean Alston of Pittsboro, Shetia Lambert of Graham; brother, James Dennis Snipes of Baltimore, Md.; and four grandchildren.
MRS. SUE DAVIS SAUNDERS
Mrs. Sue Davis Saunders, 70 of Seagrove died Tuesday (08-24-2004) at her home.
Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday (08-27-2004) at Wallace Cemetery in Robbins with Rev. Mike Holyfield officiating.
Mrs. Saunders was a Guilford County native, a member of Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Rev. Gyles “Bud” Saunders of the home; daughter Sharon Saunders of Seagrove; son, Danny Saunders of the home; and two grandchildren.
The family will be at Joyce-Brady Funeral Home in Bennett, Thursday (08-26-2004) from 7-9 p.m. and other times at the residence.
VALENT LASATER DELLINGER WHATLEY
Valent Lasater Bellington Whatley, 91, of Moncure died Saturday (08-28-2004) at Cambridge Hills of Pittsboro.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, (09-01-2004) at Moncure Baptist Church with Dr. Matt Garrett. Graveside service followed immediately at Lee Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Whatley, was a native of Chatham County and an active member of Moncure Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Hazel D. Jones of Sanford; four granddaughters; and nine great-grandchildren.
