MRS. ANNIE LOU M. CRAWFORD
Mrs. Annie Lou McBane Craford, 74, of Chapel Hill died Tuesday (09-14-2004) at The Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday (09-17-2004) at Orange Chapel United Methodist Church, with Rev. Pat Sykes and Rev. Bob Eldridge officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Crawford was a native of Alamance County, a graduate of Eli Whitney School, and a homemaker on the family dairy farm.
Survivors include husband, Howard Crawford; sons, Joe Crawford, Jerry Crawford, Mark Crawford, all of Chapel Hill; brother, John Frank McBane of Snow Camp; sister, Helen Smith of Walnut Cove; and nine grandchildren.

MRS. VIRGINIA HORTON
Mrs. Virginia Horton, 87, died Monday, (09-13-2004) at her home in Siler City.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, (09-18-2004) at Gees Grove A.M.E. Zion Church with Rev. Allen Moore officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Horton was a member of Gees Grove Church where she was in the Senior Choir and a member of the Missionary Circle.
Survivors include daughters, Delores Siler of Brooklyn, N.Y., Flora Siler Weaver of the home; son, Harold Siler of Cross Lane, W. V.; sister, Roselee Siler, Brooklyn, N.Y.; thirteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
GEORGE (GARLAND) KELLER
Mr. George (Garland) Keller, 75, of Liberty, died Wednesday (09-15-2004) at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, (09-17-2004) at Rocky River Friends Church with David Hobson, officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Keller was a native of Chatham County. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and owned and operated Keller Jewelry Store in Liberty for 30 years.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Keller; son, Randy Dale Keller, both of the home; sisters, Janeice Lowe, Nannie Mae Hinshaw, both of Siler City, Lottie Carter and Inez Moon, all of Liberty.

MOZELLE BEAL RIDDLE
Mrs. Mozelle Beal Riddle, 85, of Bynum died Sunday (09-19-2004) at The Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro.
Mrs. Riddle was born in Chatham County, worked with Bynum Cotton Mill for 40 years and was an Avon representative. She had attended Rock Springs Baptist Church and Bynum Methodist Church over the years.
Survivors include a son, Rickey Riddle of Bynum; half-brother, Buddy Beal of Goldston; half-sister, Gail Gunter of South Carolina; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services for Mrs. Riddle were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, (09-22-2004) at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery.
JOAN FIELDS BEAL
Joan Fields Beal, 52, Siler City died Monday, (09-20-2004) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, (09-23-2004) at 2:00 p.m. at Sandy Branch Baptist Church, Bear Creek with Rev. Bob Wachs officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Beal was a native of Chatham County, a member of Sandy Branch Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne D. Beal of Siler City; son, Stephen Douglas Beal of Siler City; daughter, Angela Gay Beal of Siler City; father, James Coy Fields of Crawfordville, FL.; brothers, Philip Fields, Columbia, S.C., James Allen Fields, Siler City, Timothy Fields of Crawfordville, FL.; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, (09-22-2004) at the Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City.
CARL DOUGLAS PICKARD
Carl Douglas Pickard, 81 of Siler City died Friday, September 17, 2004 at his home.
Funeral services were held Sunday, September 19, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel in Siler City with Rev. Neal Fain officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery.
Mr. Pickard was a native of Chatham County and retired from Collins & Aikman. He was a WW II Army/Air Force veteran.
Survivors include sisters, Ruby Blair, Siler City, Aline Lambert, Charleston, S.C., Edith Moore, Robbins, Frances Robbins, Siler City, Cloyce Poe, Siler City; brothers, Jack Pickard, Bonlee, Jerry Pickard, Asheboro; and several loving nieces and nephews.
CLARA DELL HACKNEY ANDREWS
Mrs. Clara Dell Hackney Andrews, 88, died suddenly on Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at Vienna Village in Pfafftown.
She was born in Chatham County near Carrboro and Bynum on March 21, 1916 to Kemp Hill Hackney and Maude Hearn Hackney.
She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker who lived in Carrboro, Chapel Hill and in the Frosty Community in northeast Chatham County until moving to Burlington's Oak Creek/White Oak in December, 2001 and to Vienna Village in April, 2004.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Henry Raymond Andrews, Sr., who died April 22, 2004 and her sisters, Lena H. Lewis, Ruth H. Walters, Mildred H. Crabtree, and Harriett Hackney.
She also leaves to mourn a daughter, Anzenette H. A. M. Jenkins of Durham and sons, Henry R. Andrews, Jr. (Glenda S.) of Pfafftown and Kearney H. Andrews (Rosalyn I.) of Lexington.
Also surviving Mrs. Andrews are eight grandchildren: Vivian L. McKnight, S. Bradford McKnight (Debbie), Beth Anne M. Gipe (Doug), Virginia L.M.Sgromolo (Mark), Maria D. A. Logan (Mark), Kelly S. A. Upshaw (Richard), Laura J.A. Stowe (Scott) and Clara Anne Adele Andrews. Twenty Great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews survive her.
The family is grateful for her lifelong friends, especially the ministers and members of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church, and has special gratitude for her caregivers at Vienna Village.
The funeral service was held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday (09-19-2004) at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church, Pittsboro. Interment followed in the adjoining cemetery.

PAUL KEENER
Paul Keener, AKA Moses, Mr. Barefoot, Barefoot Paul, and Dada Doo Dah, 44, of Chatham County died on Friday, September 17. 2004 at the Hospice Home in Burlington.
He was born in Columbus, Ohio, son of Don S. Keener and Shirley P. Keener and was married to Rochelle Crumpler Keener, who survives.
He is survived by his wife of the home; daughter, Ariana Keener of the home; mother, Shirley P. Keener of Raleigh; father, Don S. Keener of Knightdale; brothers, Joe Keener of Raleigh, Ted Keener of Selma and Robert Keener of Clayton; and numerous friends and extended family members.
A memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 21, 2004 at Pullen Memorial Baptist Church in Raleigh with Rev. Ted Purcell officiating.
MR. WILLIS "PETE" CARL JONES, SR.
Mr. Willis "Pete" Carl Jones, Sr., 62, of Greensboro died Friday, September 18, 2004 at Moses Cone Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 21 at George Brothers funeral service. Burial followed at Guilford Memorial Park.
Pete was formerly employed with Hedgecock Beverage for 18 years and Lee Oil Company for 24 years.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Rachel Williams Jones, of the home; son, Petey Jones, Jr. and his wife, Marty of Climax; daughter, Sheila Jones London of Greensboro; sisters, Mae Stovall, Betty Campbell and Kay Jarman; brothers, David Jones, Henry T. Jones and Elmer Jones; grandchildren, Paige Jones, Dana Jones, Jodi London, Traci London, Jeremy London, Jessica Lineback, Dustin Lineback; and his great-granddaughter, Abigail Jones.

GARRY H. EDWARDS
Garry H. Edwards, 56, 3404 Old US 421 North, Siler City died Tuesday, September 21, 2004 at Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 23, 2004 at 4:00 p.m. at Moon's Chapel Baptist Church, Siler City with Rev. Scott Faw, Rev. Tadd Marshall and Rev. Brian Biggers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Edwards was a native of Chatham County, a member of Moon's Chapel Baptist Church and an independent insurance agent with Don Allred & Associates in Burlington. He was a member of the U.S. Marine Reserves and was preceded in death by his father, Glosson Edwards.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Scott Edwards of Siler City; daughter, Shannon E. Bowman and husband, Chad of Siler City; mother, Dale Coble Edwards, Siler City; twin brother, Barry D. Edwards of Siler City; brother, Roger G. Edwards of Huntersville; sister, Sharon E. Burton of High Point; and grandson, Jessy Bowman.
Visitation will be from 7 - 9 p.m. on Wednesday, September 22, 2004 at the Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City.

Master Travis Michael Russell, infant son of John Coble Russell II and Vanessa Renee Jones Russell of Moncure was stillborn at Alamance Regional Hospital in Burlington on Wednesday (09-08-2004)
Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday (09-11-2004) at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Chapel Hill.
Survivors in addition to his parents are brother, John Wesley Russell; sister, Brittany Christine Russell; maternal grandparents, Suzanne Rippe of Bradenton, Fl., Robert Jones of Edgewater, Fl.; paternal grandparents, John C. and Janice Russell of Chapel Hill; maternal great-grandparents, Betty Swain of Edgewater, Fl., Calvin Barler of New Smyrna Beach, Fl.

HAROLD PORTER WELCH
Harold Porter Welch, 87 of Cantonment died Monday (09-06-2004) at his home.
Funeral services were held Thursday (09-09-2004) at 11:00 a.m. at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home. Interment followed in Eastern Gate memorial Gardens.
Mr. Welch was a native of Bennett, and a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. He was employed by American Cyanimid as a maintenance supervisor until his retirement.
Survivors include sons, Ronald Welch and Roger Welch; brothers, Henry Welch, Nuby Welch, Ted Welch, all of Bennett; sister, Nellie Brewer of Bennett; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
