Clyde Lou Kluttz
KANNAPOLIS - Clyde Lou Kluttz, 69, 115 Trade Ave., died Friday (Sept. 10, 1999) at his home after nine months of declining health and six weeks of serious illness.
Born Jan. 6, 1930, in Rowan County, Mr. Kluttz was a son of the late Myrtle Kluttz Karriker and the late Harvey Kluttz. He was employed with Granite Knitwear, Granite Quarry, for many years before his retirement in 1992.
A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he served during the Korean conflict. He was a member of Allen-Graham Masonic Lodge 695, the Scottish Rite Bodies of Charlotte, Oasis Temple and the Cabarrus Shrine Club.
Survivors include wife Frances Measmer Kluttz; son Tony Kluttz, Spencer; daughter Frankie Hall, Pinehurst; brothers Carl Lee Kluttz, Rocky Mount, F.L. Kluttz, Norwood, and Jimmy Kluttz, Kannapolis; and two grandsons.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Bobby Sutherland. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.
Visitation: 7-9 p.m. tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the Trade Avenue home.
Montie Grovene Shaver
KANNAPOLIS - Montie Grovene Shaver, 90, 2200 W. ASt., died Thursday (Sept. 9, 1999) at Big Elm Nursing Center.
Born June 27, 1909, in Aquadale, Mrs. Shaver was a daughter of the late Lula and George Deese. Educated in the Cabarrus County schools, she had retired from the spinning room at Cannon Mills after 34 years with the company. She was a member of Kannapolis West A Street Church of God.
Her son, Billy Gene Shaver, died in February 1996.
Survivors include husband Arnold P. Shaver; sons James A. Shaver, Prinston, La., Glenn Shaver, Germany, and Guy Shaver, Concord; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Colonial Chapel, Linn Honeycutt Funeral Home, Landis, conducted by the Rev. James Masters. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park, Concord.

Katherine Hall Wagner
ALBEMARLE - Katherine Hall Wagner, 650 N. Seventh St., died Thursday (Sept. 9, 1999) at her home.
Born Dec. 1, 1907, in Rowan County, Mrs. Wagner was a 1929 graduate of Catawba College. A teacher for 29 years, she was a charter member of the Xi(Albemarle) Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, a national teacher’s sorority.
She taught school in Pennsylvania for three years. After returning to North Carolina, she taught in Rowan County, where she was the last one-room schoolhouse teacher in that county.
She taught in the Stanly County and Albemarle school systems for 23 years, at Milingport, Central Elementary and Albemarle Junior High. She retired in 1969.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Wagner was preceded in death by her husband, Jay S. Wagner.
Survivors include son Donald J. Wagner; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, First Lutheran Church.

Ethel C. Yarbrough
LEXINGTON - Ethel C. Yarbrough, 75, 1238 Old Hargrave Road, died Friday (Sept. 10, 1999) at her residence.
Born May 15, 1924, in Davidson County, Mrs. Yarbrough was a daughter of the late Mary Magalene Gibson and Clyde Weldon Calloway. She was a member of Jersey Baptist Church, where she was a former member of the choir and a former Sunday school teacher. Mrs. Yarbrough had retired from the Davidson County Tax Office.
Survivors include husband Robert Wood Yarbrough; daughters Mrs. John Anderson (Martha Ellen) Sharpe, Mrs. Robert Paul (Sandra Kaye) Alley Jr. and Mrs. Lawrence Fredrick (Sharon Gaye) Collins Jr., all of Lexington; sister Nancy McCrary, Lexington; brother Bob Calloway, Matthews; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Jersey Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Morris Hollifield, the Rev. William C. Adams and the Rev. Mike Collier. Burial, church cemetery.

Lillian Cartner
KANNAPOLIS — Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today for Lillian Hawkins Cartner, 85, 7855 Wright Road, who died Thursday (Sept. 9, 1999) at Brian Center of Concord after a serious illness of two weeks.
Born March 18, 1914, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Cartner was the daughter of the late James and Maggie Barringer Hawkins. She had retired from the Cannon Mills sewing room after 45 years of service.
A charter member of Parkwood Baptist Church, she was a member of Bethpage United Methodist Church at the time of her death.
Survivors include her husband, Robert M. Cartner; daughter Katrina “Tina” Parks; a son, Bobby Cartner, Concord; a sister, Katherine Hawkins Cartner, Woodleaf; a brother, Clayvan Hawkins; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Hazel Bailey Coleman
SPENCER — Hazel Bailey Coleman, 82, of 1404 S. Salisbury Ave., died Friday (Sept. 10, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury. She had been in declining health for several years.
Born March 12, 1917, in Beaufort County, Mrs. Coleman was the daughter of the late Samuel and Lillie Fortescue Bailey. Educated in the Belhaven schools, she worked for N.C. Finishing Co. She was a member of Oakdale Baptist Church.
Her husband, Leo Jesse Coleman, died Oct. 19, 1960.
Survivors include a son, James L. Coleman, Salisbury; a daughter, Lois Coleman Cress, Mount Ulla; a sister, Dora Mixon, Andrews, S.C.; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services: Graveside service, 10: 30 a.m. Monday, Oakdale Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Robert Heard, minister.

Steven Henry McManus
KANNAPOLIS — Steven Henry McManus, 45, of 403 S. Ridge Ave., died Saturday (Sept. 11, 1999) at his home.
Born Aug. 14, 1954, in Cabarrus County, Mr. McManus was the son of Henry E. and Helen Garrett McManus. He was employed by Burlington Coat Factory in Charlotte at the time of his illness and previously worked for The County Seat and The Gap, also in Charlotte.
In addition to his parents, survivors include a sister, Rhonda M. Little, of Concord.

Minnie B. Parnell
LEXINGTON — Minnie Bell Barnes Parnell, 90, of 3930 S. Highway 150, in the Tyro community, died Friday (Sept. 10, 1999) at her home.
Born Jan. 29, 1909, in Davidson County, Mrs. Parnell was the daughter of the late Charlie Henderson and Luticia Young Barnes. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.
Her husband, S. Boyd Parnell, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Jim Parnell; a daughter, Evelyn P. Day, Thomasville; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Donald Phillips. Burial, Sandy Creek Cemetery.

Naomi “Inez” Ritchie Harwood
Naomi “Inez” Ritchie Harwood, 78, of Faith, died Friday (Sept. 10, 1999) at her residence.
Born April 13, 1921, in Rowan County, Mrs. Harwood was a daughter of the late Grace Beck and William J. Ritchie.
A 1938 graduate of Granite Quarry High School, Mrs. Harwood was a homemaker. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church and Willing Workers Sunday School Class. She served in the church nursery.
Her husband, Claude Ray Harwood, preceded her in death on March 9, 1996.
Survivors include son Larry Keith Harwood, Faith; daughter Jane H. Luther, China Grove; sisters Willette “Bette”Yates and Edith Ketner, both of Salisbury; and three grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Faith Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Charles R. Brawley, pastor. Burial, church cemetery.
Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell. At other times the family will be at the residence.
