JAMES WADE TAYLOR, SR.
James Wade Taylor, Sr., 63, of Siler City died Thursday, (11-25-2004) at Chatham Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 3 pm, Monday, (11-29-2004) at Pine Hill United Church of Christ with Reverend Barry Murray officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Taylor was a native of Chatham County and an employee of Mount-Aire.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine S. Taylor of Siler City; daughters, Denise Diane Godfrey of Burlington, Carol Jean Taylor of Graham, Laquesha Lynnette Taylor of Burlington; sons, James Wade Taylor, Jr. of Baltimore Md., Tony Lee Taylor of Goldsboro; brothers, Benjamin Taylor and Roscoe Taylor, both of Liberty.
ERIC STEVENS ROZIER
Eric Stevens Rozier, 53, formerly of Raleigh died Wednesday (11-24-2004) in Cullowhee.
Mr. Rozier was a native of Kingsport, Tn., graduated from N.C. State with a degree in History. He also received a MBA from Bristol College and was currently on a teaching fellowship at Western Carolina University. He had a long career at various manufacturing firms in Purchasing and Materials Management.
Survivors include his children, Jessica Frost Rozier of Wilkesboro, Sahah Clinton Rozier of Apex, William Stevens Rozier of Charleston, S.C.; mother, Peet Rozier Adams of Kingsport, Tn; brother, Butch Rozier of Pittsboro; sisters, Suzy Rozier of Kingsport, Tn., Maryanne Rozier Chiriboga of Brea, Ca.; step brothers, Robert Adams of Richmond, Ky., and Mike Adams of Kingsport, Tn.
Memorial service will be held at St. Dominics Church on Saturday, (12-04-2004) at 11:00 am.

Franklin Lafayette Wrenn, 89, died November 25, 2004 at Well Spring Retirement Community, Greensboro. Memorial services were held Monday, November 29, 2004 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church, Siler City with Rev. Jim Wall, pastor, officiating. Additionally, a memorial service was held in the chapel at Well Spring at 3:30 pm Monday, November 29, 2004 with Well Spring chaplain Mr. John Akers, assisted by Rev. Jim Wall conducting the service. A private interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Siler City prior to the memorial service.
Mr. Wrenn was born in Siler City on July 14, 1915, the son of the late Flora Antoinette Jordan Wrenn and John William Wrenn. He attended Siler City High School, graduated from Mars Hill Junior College in 1935, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce in 1937 from the Univeristy of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Mr. Wrenn volunteered to serve his country during World War II, serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps, 5th Air Force, 54th Troops Carrier Wing, both in the states and abroad.
From the age of 14 until his death, he was a member of First Baptist Church, Siler City. Mr. Wrenn served his church faithfully holding the offices of Sunday School Superintendent and Chairman of the Board of Deacons. In addition to being a teacher, he also served two other terms on the Board of Deacons and was a member of two pastoral search committees.
FRANKLIN LAFAYETTE WRENN
Lafayette loved his community, doing volunteer work through such organizations as the Siler City Lions Club and the Siler City Rotary Club. Mr. Wrenn was a Boy Scout Troop Master for several years. He was a Past Master, Siler City Masonic Lodge No. 403, A.F. and A.M. and president and director of the Siler City Country Club. Mr. Wrenn was an avid golfer with several trophies to his credit; and a devoted UNC Tarheel fan who, along with his wife, Doris, relished tailgating with neighbors and friends.
Franklin Lafayette Wrenn was an esteemed member and pioneer in the poultry industry in North Carolina. He was an innovator of methods that significantly increased poultry production and consumption in N.C. Mr. Wrenn was employed in 1938 by Siler City Mills, Inc., leading the organization to become the first in North Carolina to contract broiler production. He was president and a director of Chatham Poultry Farms from 1943 until his retirement in 1980. Mr. Wrenn planned and built Master Hatcheries Incorporated, serving as president and director of that company. He also founded Chatham Trucking Incorporated, and served there as president and director. Mr. Wrenn helped organize and start the North Carolina Poultry Federation, serving as the Association’s fourth president for the term 1971-1972, and also as a director
for several more years. He was
honored in later years at a special ceremony for his service to that organization. On August 20, 1993, Mr. Wrenn was inducted into the prestigious North Carolina Poultry Hall of Fame, citing him as "truly one of the leaders in the development of the poultry industry in NC". Additionally, he served as a director for Southeast Poultry and Egg. Mr. Wrenn traveled to Russia in 1963 representing the poultry industry of North Carolina in the international "People to People" program. Mr. Wrenn was elected to the Board of Directors of Home Savings Bank Incorporated of Siler City.
In April 1994, he founded the Doris and Lafayette Wrenn Scholarship Trust, administered by the trustees of First Baptist Church of Siler City. Currently the fund is assisting four Chatham County students attending North Carolina colleges or universities.
Mr. Wrenn moved to Well Spring Retirement Center in 1997 and quickly became active in the social and business affairs of the community. He served on various resident liaison committees and was a volunteer worker in the gift shop. He was a contributor and supporter in the building of a state-of-the-art wellness center, completed in 2003.
Mr. Wrenn was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Doris Lee Ormond Wrenn, formerly of Raleigh; one sister, Mary Louise Shelton, formerly of Charlotte.
He is survived by one son Franklin Lafayette "Buddy" Wrenn, Jr., and his wife Vicki Vogt Wrenn, Ocean Pines, Maryland; one daughter, Christine Lee Wrenn Dycus, and her husband Jerry T. Dycus, Kings Mountain; two grandchildren, Michael Richmond "Rich" Wrenn, Los Angeles, California and Debra Lee Wrenn Cunningham and her husband, Christopher Cunningham, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; one great-grandson, Nathaniel Wrenn Cunningham, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; six cousins, Margaret E. Wrenn, Virginia W. Carter, Mary W. Patrick, Clara W. Smith , all of Greensboro, Thelma Smith York, Asheboro and Sara Parks Smith Crotts, Siler City; one niece, Yvonne Shelton, Charlotte; and friend, Dr. Olena Swain Bunn, Well Spring Retirement Community, Greensboro.

RUTH BUCKNER SMITH
Mrs. Ruth Buckner Smith, 86 of Burlington died Sunday, November 28, 2004 at White Oak Manor in Burlington.
She was born in Chatham County , the daughter of the late Olon M. Buckner and the late Blannie Johnson Buckner. She was a member of Kimesville Road Baptist Church and a retired hosiery employee.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at Kimesville Road Baptist Church in Burlington. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Columbus Smith; brothers, Carl Buckner, William Buckner, Willis Buckner, Grady Buckner, Clyde Buckner and Talton Buckner.
She is survived by her brother, Bobby Buckner of Pittsboro, several nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

LOIS FOX PerMAR
Lois Fox PerMar, 84, of Red Wing Circle, Port Orange, Florida and a former long-time resident of Orlando died Monday, November 22, 2004 after several months of failing health. Born in Chatham County, she was the daughter of William Moore Fox and Emma Edwards Fox, both deceased. She was a retired secretary from the Grand Union Company, Orlando.
She attended First Baptist Church Downtown Daytona Beach and the Joy Fellowship Luncheons.
She was a member of College Park United Methodist Church for 49 years, having served faithfully in the choir, the Fellowship Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 29, 2004 at College Park United Methodist Church in Orlando, FL.
Survivors include her daughter, Toni Strange and husband, Jerry Strange of Port Orange, FL; son, John W. PerMar, Jr. and wife, Celesta L. PerMar of Orlando; siblings, Elmer L. Fox, Ollie F. Buckner and Daphne F. Teague, all of Siler City; grandchildren, Dennis R. Texter and Kimberly A. Texter, New Smyrna Beach, FL., John C. Texter and Kimberly A. Texter, Daytona Beach, FL, MSG Melissa L. PerMar, Biloxi, MS, John W. PerMar, III, Winter Haven, FL; and two great grandchildren, Cole C. Texter and Summer M. Texter.

JACK WYETH WOMBLE
Mr. Jack Wyeth Womble, 79 of Greensboro died Friday, November 26, 2004 at Clapps Nursing Center of Pleasant Garden.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 28, 2004 at Tabernacle United Methodist Church where he was a member. Interment followed in Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery, Pittsboro.
Mr. Womble is the son of Gaius and Berta Womble, He was a veteran of World War II in the US Army and after 34 years a retired superintendent from APAC, Inc.
Mr. Womble is survived by his wife, Jean Joyce Womble of Greensboro; daughters, Deborah Cunningham and husband Scott of Richmond, Va., Jacqueline A. Womble of Greensboro; son, James Isaac Womble and wife, Jeanne of Pleasant Garden; sisters, Louise Womble and Doris Womble; brother, Tom Womble, all of Pittsboro; twin grandsons Matt Cunningham of Charlottesville, VA, and Jack Cunningham of Oxford, OH.

PERCY THOMAS CHURCHILL
Percy Thomas Churchill, 85, of Apex, died Wednesday morning, November 24 at home, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Churchill retired in 1983 from the Town of Chapel Hill, after working for UNC at Chapel Hill, and a long career in farming. He was born in Chatham County, the son of the late Joe and Elizabeth Churchill.
A service celebrating his life and homegoing was held on Sunday, November 28, 2004 at 2:00 pm in Martha's Chapel Christian Church in Chatham County. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Churchill was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Bessie Mae; a daughter, Shirley Mae Holt; and two sons-in-law Norman Stallings and Lee Burgess.
Surviving are a son, Ronald Churchill of Apex; five daughters, Marie Stallings, Sylvia Burgess, and Diane Smith, all of Apex, Joyce Burgess and husband Billy of Swansboro, Carolyn Johnson and husband Fred of Moncure; sister, Louise Ashworth of Sanford; 21 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, (two of which are proudly serving our country in the US Marine Corps), 2 great-great-grandchildren; and two loving and dedicated pets, "Tip" and "Lucky".

DAILE M. GUNTER
Daile Macon Bridges Gunter, 79, of Ramseur died Tuesday, November 23, 2004 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 26, 2004 at Kildee Wesleyan Church with Rev. Gary Waisner officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Gunter was a Randolph County native, retired from Separation Service, and a member of Kildee Wesleyan Church. She was preceded in death by her husbands, William F. Bridges and W. Garland Gunter.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Edwin and Brinda Bridges of Siler City; and granddaughter, Janice Ann Bridges of Graham.

CHARLES AGARD SHIELDS
Mr. Charles Agard Shields, 82, of Pittsboro passed away early on November 27, 2004 after a short bout with cancer.
Mr. Shields is fondly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Jane Clifford Shields, their daughter Linda P. Shields of Riverside, WA, and sons, Charles A. Shields, Jr. of Ottawa, Canada, and Andrew C. Shields of Wilton CT. Mr. Shields was proud of his grandchildren, Ryan, 18 and Carly, 13. He is also survived by his brothers, Robert and Donald Shields.
"Chick" Shields was born in 1922 in New Haven, CT, and graduated from Haverford College in 1947. His productive and contributive life included US Army service in WWII, and 27 years in American foreign service. In retirement, he sat on many trade boards in Connecticut and North Carolina, and directed the NCSU International Trade Center. Mr. Shields also directed executive seminars for the Program for Humanities and Human Values at UNC. In addition he was active in community support efforts such as Reading for the Blind and Habitat for Humanity.
A memorial service for Mr. Shields will be held at 3 pm, Sunday, December 5, 2004, at the Community Church of Chapel Hill, to be followed by a Celebration of Life in Mr. Shields’ honor.
The family requests that remembrances take the form of donations to the Pittsboro Branch of UNC Hospice, or to the Haverford College Scholarship Fund.
GRANT EUGENE MAULDIN
Grant Eugene Mauldin, 81, of Siler City died Monday, (11-29-2004) at Chatham Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, (12-02-2004) at First Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Barry R. Gray, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Mauldin was a faithful member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Siler City, a World War II veteran, a member of American Legion Post 283 and Light of the World #711. He was retired from Burlington Industries.
Survivors include daughters, Matilda Miller, Petenia Murdock, Joan Cheek, Shirley Emerson, Cynthia Brooks, Sandra Mauldin, Felicia Mauldin; son, Timothy E. Mauldin; foster daughter, Hattie Marsh; sister, Myrtle Harris; brothers, Floyd Mauldin; 14 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
The family will be at 2412 Siler City/Snow Camp Road in Siler City.
JOE LAMBERT
Joe Lambert, 67, died Wednesday (11-17-2004) in Greensboro.
Lambert was a native of Chatham County and former resident of Siler City.
Mr. Lambert is survived by his wife, Doris; a son, Robert L. Lambert of Pittsboro; a daughter, Kimberly Teff of Hickory; a brother, Bobby Lambert of Siler City; and two grandchildren.
