Jamie Linn Rabon
Jamie Linn Rabon, 20, of Salisbury, died Wednesday (Sept. 8, 1999) from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
Born Feb. 22, 1979, in Rowan County, Mr. Rabon was a son of Nancy Cameron Bonds, of the home, and Edward Rabon of Salisbury. He was a graduate of West Rowan High School and was attending Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. A Baptist, he was employed with Freightliner in Cleveland.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include brother Michael Shane Rabon, Rockwell; half sisters Brooke Bonds, of the home, and Brittany Rabon, Salisbury; stepmother Betsy Rabon, Salisbury; paternal grandparents Edgar and Ruby Rabon, Spencer; maternal grandmother Vada Cameron, China Grove; and maternal step-great-grandmother Pearl Cameron, High Point.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, First United Church of Christ, conducted by the Rev. David Crook. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.
Visitation: 7-8: 30 tonight, Lyerly Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home.

Mabell McCluney Roberts
CHARLOTTE — The funeral will be Saturday for Mabell McCluney Roberts, 99, 1927 Oaklawn Ave., who died Sunday (Sept. 5, 1999) at her home. She was the mother of Pansy Roberts of Salisbury.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, St. Peter’s Baptist Church, Grover. Burial, church cemetery.

Homer Lester Smith
The funeral will be Friday for Homer Lester Smith, 84, 4250 Miller Road, who died Wednesday (Sept. 8, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born May 5, 1915, in Rowan County, Mr. Smith was a son of the late George Allan and Elizabeth Leazer Smith. Educated in the Rowan County schools, he had retired from Cannon Mills. He was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.
His wife, Lucille Basinger Smith, died June 7, 1992.
Survivors include son Nelson Smith, Tabor City; daughters Hazel Swink and Sherley Pless, both of Salisbury; brothers Harold Smith, Salisbury, and Hubert Smith, Lenoir; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Northcrest Chapel, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. Gene Bruce. Burial, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church cemetery.

Willie Walker Jr.
The funeral will be Saturday for Willie Walker Jr., 47, 926 S. Jackson St., who died Tuesday (Sept. 7, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health and a day of serious illness.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home’s A.R. Kelsey Memorial Chapel, conducted by Elder Ivey L. Owen. Burial, Oakwood Cemetery.

Ruth Miller
KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Saturday for Ruth Winecoff Miller, 94, Caremoor Retirement Center, formerly of Rogers Lake Road, who died Thursday (Sept. 9, 1999) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after a brief illness.
Born Feb. 22, 1905, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Miller was a daughter of the late J.W. and Mattie Blackwelder Winecoff. She had retired from Cannon Mills, Plant 4, cloth room.
She was a life member of Bethpage Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir and served as treasurer of her Sunday school class.
Her husband, Herbert L. Miller, and a son, David W. Miller, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughter Mrs. Harold (Ruth E.) Starnes, Charlotte; son Herbert L. Miller, Charlotte; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Bethpage Presbyterian Church, conducted by Dr. Steve Mowery and the Rev. Crawford White. Burial, church cemetery.
Visitation: 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Bernice Howard Oakley
JULIAN — Bernice Howard Oakley, 66, Alamance Church Road, died Tuesday (Sept. 7, 1999) at Wesley Long Community Hospital, Greensboro.
Born Dec. 30, 1932, in Davie County, Mrs. Oakley was a daughter of Lola Rice Howard, Mocksville, and the late Dove Howard. Retired from Sears, she attended Pleasant Garden Baptist Church. She was a resident of Guilford for 43 years.
Survivors include husband Harold B. Oakley; sons William M. and Ed Oakley, both of Pleasant Garden, and Brian Oakley, Reidsville; daughter Theresa O. Jimenez, Austin, Texas; brother Dale Howard, Goldsboro; sisters Peggy Nelson, Kernersville; Bonnie Maness, Lou Lowder, Daisy Hardy and Hope Leonard, all of Mocksville, Karen Phillips, Lafayette, Ga., and Mary Miller, Atlanta ; and eight grandchildren.

Earl Litaker Rumple
KANNAPOLIS — The funeral is today for Earl Litaker Rumple, 82, 916 Laura Ave., who died Wednesday (Sept. 8, 1999) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after several years of declining health and a month of serious illness.
Born Nov. 2, 1916, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Rumple was a son of the late William and Florence Litaker Rumple. He had retired from Kannapolis Service Co., where he worked as a carpenter. Formerly employed at Cannon Mills, Plant 1, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include wife Maude Menius Rumple; and daughter Jean R. Carl, Kannapolis.

Mable Baxley Wilson
KANNAPOLIS – Mable Baxley Wilson, 79, 1220 E. First St., died Thursday (Sept. 9, 1999) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after five years of declining health.
Born May 13, 1920, in Robeson County, Mrs. Wilson was a daughter of the late John and Martha Baxley. A homemaker, she attended Friendship Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include husband Paul Phillip Wilson; daughters Brenda Towery, Waxhaw, and Margaret Perry, Raleigh; son Kelly Smith Jr., Rottendam, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Friendship Freewill Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Marler Starnes. The body will be placed in the church at 1: 30. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.

Rebecca Ann Cox Bailey
REIDSVILLE — Rebecca Ann Cox Bailey, 55, 870 Garrison Road, died Thursday (Sept. 9, 1999) at her home.
Born in Caswell County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Maggie Cox. Employed with the Rockingham County school system, she was the children’s nutrition manager for Lawsonville Avenue School. She was a member of First Assembly of God.
She was preceded in death by a son, Duane Bailey.
Survivors include daughters Kathryn Bailey and Idel Sauceda, both of the home, and Christine King, White Lake; sons Greg Bailey and David Link, both of Salisbury; sister Doris Bellofatto, Henderson; and five grandchildren.
Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, First Assembly of God. Burial, Reidlawn Cemetery.

Clara Wise Flowe
CHINA GROVE - Clara Wise Flowe, 74, 306 S. Main St., died Friday (Sept. 10, 1999) at her home after five years of declining health and two months of serious illness.
Born Nov. 10, 1924, in Rowan County, Mrs. Flowe was a daughter of the late Margaret White and Earl Bernard Wise. She had retired as a laboratory technician with Cannon Mills, Kannapolis, after 43 years with the company. She was a member of New Hope Presbyterian Church.
Her husband, James Carl Flowe, died in April 1993, and a son, James C. “Jimmy” Flowe Jr., died in January 1995.
Survivors include daughter Rebecca Kay Flowe, China Grove; sister Sue Wise Epley, Lexington; brothers Bernard, Bill and Gerald Wise, all of China Grove; and two grandchildren.
Services: 3 p.m Sunday, New Hope Presbyterian Church, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. Cary Holbert. Burial, church cemetery.

Florence Epps Herbert
Florence Epps Herbert, 85, formerly of 500 E. 11th St., Kannapolis, died Friday (Sept. 10, 1999) at Genesis Eldercare, Salisbury, after several years of declining health and two months of serious illness.
Born April 4, 1914, in Madison County, Ga., Mrs. Herbert was a daughter of the late Cora Sanders and Seab Epps. A homemaker, she was a member of Landis Church of God, Landis.
Her husband, William Guy Herbert, died Jan. 16, 1987.
Survivors include sons Bennie Dorsey Herbert, China Grove, Willie Dupree Herbert, Hartsville, S.C., and Donald Herbert, Kannapolis; daughters Rachel Myers, Salisbury, Ruby Carolyn Hooks, Kannapolis, and Frances Holder, China Grove; brothers Willie and Grover Epps, both of Athens, Ga.; sisters Daisy and Zulene Autry, Danielsville, Ga.; 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Landis Church of God, Landis, conducted by the Rev. Bruce Rabon and the Rev. Terry Deitz. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.
