PERCY GAINES, JR.
Percy (Poodle) Gaines, Jr. 79, of 28 Bonlee-Bennett Road, Bonlee died Monday, November 3, 2003 at Jordan Lake in Pittsboro.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, November 6 at Bonlee Baptist Church with Rev. Darrell Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery in Bonlee.
Mr. Gaines was a native of Chatham County, a member of Bonlee Baptist Church where he was a member of Frank Andrews Adult Sunday School Class and was retired from C.C. Routh Mills in Bonlee.
Survivors are brother, Howard J. (Buck) Gaines and wife, Carlyle of Bonlee, nieces, Janie Riggsbee of Bonlee and Lisa Gaines of Goldston; nephews, John H. Gaines of Bonlee and Mark N. Scott of Bennett; great-nieces, Abby Howard, Tina Harrelson, Wendy Johnson and Dana Scott; great-nephews, Brad Howard and Justin Gaines; best friends, Gene Watson of Bonlee, David Mitchell and Clinton Scott both of Siler City.

DAVID CECIL PULLIAM
David Cecil Pulliam, 75, of 1104 Sandy Cross Road, Burlington died Friday October 31, 2003 at Dosher Memorial Hospital in Southport, NC after 4 months of failing health.
He was a native of Person County, retired from NC Dept. of Transportation and a member of Surl Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include daughters, Mary Kay Andrews and husband, Danny of Oak Island, NC, Judy Ross and husband, Mike of Burlington; sons, Wallace Ray Pulliam and wife, Carla of Burlington, John Pulliam of West Palm Beach, FL, Thomas Pulliam of West Palm Beach, FL, James C. Pulliam and wife Debra of Stuart, FL; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and special friend, Barbara Vaughn.
Mr. Pulliam was preceded in death by parents, Grover Cleveland Pulliam and Sarah Clayton Pulliam; wife, Annie Warren Pulliam; son, Roy Pulliam; brother, J.W. Pulliam; sisters, Ruth Simpson, Naomi Webster, and Annie Mae Duncan.
Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Monday, November 3, 2003 at Surl Primitive Baptist Church in Roxboro with Elder David Minnow officiating. Burial followed in church cemetery.

DOROTHY ANN ALSTON
Dorothy Ann Alston, 68 of Bronx, New York died Friday (10-31-2003) at her residence.
Memorial service will be held 3 p.m. on Thursday (11-6-2003) at John H. Joyce Funeral Home at 2332 Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. Blvd., New York, New York 10030.
Survivors are mother, Ola B. Alston of Goldston; daughter, Wanda L. Cotton of Goldston; sisters, Bernice Lyons of New York, NY, Debra Faye Paige of Siler City and Paulette Daye of Durham; brothers, David S. Alston of Goldston, Frank Alston of Mt. Vernon, NY, Lewis Alston, Mac Arthur Alston and James Nicholas Alston all of Dayton, Ohio.

WILLIE TRIPP CANIPE
Willie Tripp Canipe, 79, of Hamlet Chapel Rd., Pittsboro died Tuesday (10-28-2003).
Mrs. Canipe was a native of Chatham County, member of Rock Springs Baptist Church. She was a nurse for years at Mathiesens Clinic and retired from UNC Hospital.
Survivors are daughter Emily Meacham of Chapel Hill; two grandchildren, six great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made of Hospice of Orange and Chatham.
MALCOLM BURIE PICKETT
Malcolm Burie Pickett, 67, of 7490 NC Hwy 42, Bear Creek died Tuesday, (11-4-2003) at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Friday, (11-7-2003) at Fair Promise United Methodist Church in Glendon with Rev. Rick McKinley. Burial followed in church cemetery.
Mr. Pickett was a native of Durham County, a member of Fair Promise United Methodist Church and was a retired from North Carolina Department of Transportation.
Surviving are his wife, Peggy Martin Pickett of the home; daughters, Janice Smith of Bristol, VA, Shelby Lawson of Houston, TX, Lisa Pickett of Sarasota, FL; sisters, Mary Helon Meritt of Goldsboro, LaVerne Tilley of Durham, Jane Lloyd of Chapel Hill, Evelyn (Bird) Durham of Chapel Hill and Affie Collins of Franklinton; brother, Donald Pickett of Powder Springs, GA and two grandchildren.

BETTY SUTHERLAND SMITH
Mrs. Betty Sutherland Smith, 67, of 263 Allen Lane, Pinebluff died Saturday, (11-8-2003) at First Health Moore Regional in Pinehurst.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, (11-11-2003) at Bennett Baptist Church.
Mrs. Smith was a Chatham County native and a member of Bennett Baptist Church.
Survivors are husband, Teddy Smith of Pinebluff; son, Michael L. Benson of Myrtle Beach, SC; daughters, Anita Smith of the home, Amanda Smith of Southern Pines, Vickie Benson of Pinebluff, and Eve Benson of Dekalb, IL; brother, Jackie Sutherland of Ramseur; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
RUBY LEE BOYCE
Ruby Lee Boyce, 82, of Siler City, passed away Sunday (11-9-2003) at Moses Cone Hospital, Greensboro.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday (11-15-2003) at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses of Siler City.
She is survived by her husband, Welton D. Boyce; three sons, James Morrison of Durham, Richard Ashe of Patterson, NY and Jeff Ashe of Atlanta, GA; and one granddaughter.
GLADYS TERRY DIXON
Gladys Terry Dixon, 85, of Buies Creek died Friday (11-7-2003) at Presbyterian Hospital in Matthews, NC.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, (11-10-2003) at Memorial Baptist Church in Buies Creek with Dr. David Whiteman and Rev. Herb Gaines, Jr. officiating. Burial was held at 3 p.m. at Brush Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Siler City.
Mrs. Dixon was a native of Chatham County and a charter member of Memorial Baptist Church in Buies Creek.
She is survived by her daughter, Theresa Batten of Angier; sons, Leonard M. Dixon, Jr. of Northville, MI, A. Terry Dixon of Wesley Chapel; step daughters, Ruth D. Sessoms of Smithfield, Geraldine D. Blanton of FL, Rachel D. Smith of Raleigh; and five step grandchildren.

JESSIE UTLEY ANSFIELD
Mrs. Jessie Utley Mansfield, 77, of Raleigh died Friday, (11-7-2003) at Rex Convalescent Center.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, (11-10-2003) in the Chapel of Christ Episcopal Church, 120 Edenton Street. Interment followed in the Haywood Church Cemetery near Moncure.
She is survived sons, The Rev. Victor Mansfield of Arden, Bill Mansfield of Greenville and Don Mansfield of Pembroke Pines, FL and four granddaughters.

MARY CLARK WILLIAMS
Mary Clark Williams, 76, of Pittsboro, died Sunday, November 9, 2003 after a long battle with cancer. Mary was born in Chatham County on November 16, 1926.
Mary spent many years of her work life caring for children. She was a nanny to several families in Chapel Hill through the years and loved nurturing children. She also had a passion for shopping and would spend long days with her sister and others who enjoyed this hobby.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Williams and a sister, Irene Cooper.
She is survived by her children Steve Williams and wife, Jeannie, Carolyn Morris and husband Billy, Brent Williams and Don Williams and wife, Phyllis. Mary had ten grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
She leaves behind a brother, L.C. and three sisters, Maxine, Ava Glenny and Lucille Williams and numerous nieces and nephews. She was comforted in her final days by her children, friends and nieces, Shirley Clayton and Susan Geek. Mary leaves behind wonderful friends who have been supportive to her throughout the years.
Funeral services were held at Rock Springs Baptist Church on Tuesday, November 11 at 2 p.m. The family ask that in lieu of flowers memorials contributions may be sent to UNC Hospice.
LINDA FAY MARTIN WILSON
Linda Fay Martin Wilson, 59, of 530 Wilson Road, Goldston died Monday, November 10, 2003 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, November 13 at Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Bear Creek with Rev. Darrell Garner and Rev. Robby Yow officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery.
Mrs. Wilson was a native of Chatham County, a member of Tramway Baptist Church, a graduate of Chatham Central High School and was a Certified Nurse Assistant with Keston Care.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Franklin Martin and Daisy Dell Phillips and a brother, Donald Martin.
Survivors are daughter, Crissy Moody and husband, Scott of Goldston; brother, Calvin Martin of Siler City; sisters, Pat Brooks of Harrisburg, VA and Elaine Mowery of Asheboro; grandsons, Scott Moody and Ethan Moody and granddaughter Evan Moody.
Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Hickory Grove Baptist Church. At other times at the home of the daughter, 460 Wilson Road in Goldston.

MYRTIE HORTON WILSON
Myrtie Horton Wilson, 87, died Thursday (10-30-2003) at her residence in the Glenaire Retirement Community in Cary.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Sunday, (11-2-2003) in the Apex Funeral Home Chapel in Apex.
Mrs. Wilson was a native of Chatham County and a member of Cary Alliance Church.
She is survived by son, Larry F. Wilson of Westwood, KS and daughter, Linda C. Wilson of Hillsborough.
