ELIZABETH (LIB) LIGON McLAUGHLIN
Elizabeth (Lib) Ligon McLaughlin, 79, of Siler City, died Saturday, November 30, 2002 at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 4 at First Baptist Church, Siler City, with Rev. Jim Wall officiating. Burial followed in Loves Creek Baptist Cemetery.
Mrs. McLaughlin was a native of Pickens, South Carolina. She was retired from Kellwood and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Siler City.
She is survived by her husband, D. Keith McLaughlin of Siler City; daughter, Zoann M Adams and husband, Sam, of Siler City; sons, D.K. McLaughlin and wife, Donna, of Jamestown, and Tom T. McLaughlin and wife, Cynde, of Greensboro; granddaughters, Marti A Canterbury of Wilmington, Meghan McLaughlin and Caitlin McLaughlin, both of Greensboro; grandson, David McLaughlin of Jamestown; and great-grandson, James Canterbury of Wilmington.
ELEANOR J. HARWARD
Eleanor Winfrey Johnson Harward, 79, of Raleigh, died Friday, November 29, 2002. Eleanor was born in Pittsboro on March 3, 1923. She was the daughter of Victor Richardson Johnson, attorney in Pittsboro and a deacon at First Baptist Church, and Nellie Radcliffe Pilkington Johnson, long-time organist at Saint Bartholomew's Episcopal Church. Eleanor Harward was the granddaughter of Dr. George Ratcliffe Pilkington of Pittsboro, druggist in Pittsboro for nearly half a century, and a past president of the North Carolina Pharmaceutical Association. She was happily married to Benjamin Russell Harward of Moncure for over forty-nine years until his death on May 15, 1996.
Eleanor was a retired teacher and librarian. She was a graduate of Peace College and UNC-G and received a Masters in Library Science from the University of North Carolina.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Michaels Episcopal Church. Burial followed at Raleigh Memorial Park.
She is survived by a daughter, Ellen Harward Stewart of Clayton; son, Ben R. Harward, Jr. and his wife, Gwen Harward, of Garner; grandchildren, Kelly and Kerri Stewart and Samuel, Stephen, and Abigail Harward; and great-grandchild, Allyson Stewart.

LACY WALKER HERITAGE, JR.
Lacy Walker Heritage, Jr., 76, of 863 Mt. Vernon Springs Road, Siler City, died peacefully Monday, December 2, 2002 at his home near where he was born and raised.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 5 at Mt. Vernon Springs Presbyterian Church, 125 Mt. Vernon Springs Road, Siler City, with Dr. Cecil Callis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Heritage was a native of Chatham County, a member of Mt. Vernon Springs Presbyterian Church, a Navy veteran of World War II and was employed with Liberty Hosiery for ten years after his Navy service. He was a retired barber with City Barber & Style Shop.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Tysor Heritage; sister, Betty H. Fox of Siler City; nephews, Bobby Fox of Liberty, Tim Tally of Goldston, Dennis Tally of Whispering Pines, and Greg Tysor of Comming, GA; and nieces, Lou Ann Cox of Bear Creek, and Gale Adouli of McLeansville.
Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home.

JOHN ROBERT DORSETT
John Robert Dorsett, 87, of 3531 Euliss Road, Burlington, died Monday (1-27-2003) at Liberty Commons.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday (1-30-2003) at Rich & Thompson Chapel, Burlington with Rev. Lee Ellis officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Russell Webster, David Gray Stone, Johnny Siler, Jack Hackney, Gene Siler and Billy Siler.
A native of Chatham County, Mr. Dorsett was a farmer and a member of Loves Creek Baptist Church, Siler City.
He is survived by his wife, Alene Euliss Dorsett of the home; and sisters, Lois Webster of Bonlee and Mattie Mae Robbins of Trinity.
WILLIAM J. (BILLY JOE) WOODY
William Joseph (Billy Joe) Woody, 39, of 59 Mark Teague Road, Pittsboro, died at his home.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Griffin Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ray Gooch and Rev. Robert Way officiating. Burial followed in Hickory Mountain United Methodist Church Cemetery.
A native of Chatham County, he worked with Townsend Foods.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Foushee Woody of Gulf; daughter, Barbara Jean Woody of Gulf, and son, William Clayton Woody of Gulf; and his father, David Woody of Pittsboro.
LENA GEARHART
Lena Gearhart, 88, of Pittsboro, died Saturday (2-1-2003).
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday (2-4-2003) in the Pittsboro Christian Village Chapel. Interment will follow at a later date in Hagaman Cemetery, Hagaman, NY.
Mrs. Gearhart was a native of Amsterdam, NY and moved to North Carolina over 23 years ago.
She is survived by her son, David F. Gearhart of Greensboro; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

ELIJAH (RUSTY) MORRIS
Elijah B. (Rusty) Morris, 78, of 112 Spring Grove Drive, Mooresville, died Monday (2-3-2003) at Huntersville Oaks Nursing Home in Huntersville.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday (2-5-2003) at Pleasant Grove Christian Church with Rev. Alvin Keener and Rev. Morris Sellars officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
A native of Randolph County, Mr. Morris was self-employed as an auto mechanic, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline Brady Morris of Mooresville; son, David Morris of Trenton, NJ; daughters, Beverly Davis of Mooresville and Mary Patterson of Raleigh; sister, Martha Keener of Smithfield; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

BETTY RECTOR ELDER
Betty Rector Elder, 75, of 198 Pine Forest Drive, Siler City, died Sunday, February 2, 2003 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 4, at First United Methodist Church, Siler City, with Rev. Joe Casteel officiating. Burial followed at Chatham Memorial Park.
Mrs. Elder was a native of Union County, South Carolina and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She and her husband Tom were founders of Elder Printing Company. She was a lifetime golfer and member of Siler City Country Club and Blowing Rock Country Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas S. Elder, Sr. and a son, David Andrew (Andy) Elder.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane E. Johnson and husband, Grover of Siler City; son, Thomas S. Elder, Jr. and wife, Beth of Greensboro; sister, Mary Steele and husband, Garnett of Mt. Airy; granddaughter, Jennifer J. Nelson and husband, Rob; grandsons, Tony Wrenn Elder and Charles David Elder; great-grandson, Alex Nelson; great-granddaughter, Ashley Nelson; and nephew, Ken Steele.

LUCY FOUST WRENN
Lucy Foust Wrenn, 84, of Flint Ridge Road, Siler City, died Saturday, February 1, 2003 at Pittsboro Christian Village, Pittsboro.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 3 at Rocky River Friends Meeting, Siler City, with Rev. David Hobson and Rev. Cafer Marley officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
A native of Guilford County, Mrs. Wrenn was a member of Rocky River Friends Meeting Church. She worked for A.J. Schneierson & Sons as a seamstress until her retirement. She was preceded in death by her husband, H. Delbert Wrenn, Sr.
She is survived by her son, Delbert Wrenn, Jr. and wife, Carol of Siler City; daughter, Etta Florence Winslow and husband, Clifford of Belvidere; sisters, Annie Margaret Shoffner of Julian, and Ernestine Forney of Laredo, TX; brother, Clifford Foust of Julian; grandchildren, Dacia Quate and husband, Tim of Julian, and Kevin Wrenn of Archdale; two great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and eight step great-grandchildren.

JAMES VETRE PERDEW
Mr. James Vetere "Jim" Perdew, 83 of Pittsboro died Tuesday (10-7-2003) at UNC Hospital.
Graveside service was held 2 p.m. Friday (10-10-2003) at Chatham Memorial Park
Mr. Perdew was an industrial engineer, and last worked for National Electric Coil in Columbus, OH, Pittsburgh, PA and Tulsa, OK. Jim served with the US Coast Guard in the Merchant Marine in 1945. He was a member of Pittsboro Baptist Church where he was a member of the three "L's", and also sang in the choir.
Surviving are his wife, Lila Matthews Teague Perdew , of the home; sons, James G. Perdew of Des Moines, IA, John M. Perdew of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; daughter, Rozane P. Logan of Columbus, OH; step-daughter Patricia Burns of Bear Creek; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
AUDREY MARTHA OLDHAM
Audrey Martha Oldham, 77, of 3170 US 15-501, North died at her home Thursday, (10-9-2003).
She was a native of Chatham County and a homemaker. Audrey was married for 61 years to Chapin Oldham.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Saturday in the Griffin funeral service Chapel conducted by Rev. Ray Gooch and Chaplain Jan Clark. Burial followed at Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
Surviving are her husband, Edward Chapin Oldham; two sons, Pierre Oldham of Asheboro nd Gene Oldham of Pittsboro; one sister, Emma Dell Ritter of High Point; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
CLAY VAN JOHNSON
Clay Van Johnson, 72, of 4444 Old Liberty Road, Franklinville died Thursday (10-12-2003) at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral services were held 4 p.m. Sunday (10-12-2003) at White Memorial Baptist Church in Franklinville with Rev. Jeff Joyce and Rev. Arlen Johnson officiating. Burial followed in church cemetery.
Mr. Johnson was a native of Chatham County, an Army veteran of Korean Conflict and was of the Baptist faith. He retired from Gregson Furniture Company, Liberty.
Surviving are his wife, Dessie Johnson Johnson of Franklinville; son, Zendal Ray Johnson of Franklinville; daughter, Lydia J. Parsons of Asheboro; brother, Larry J. Johnson of Staley; sisters, Jewell J. Lineberry of Staley, Mildred J. Lineberry of Staley; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

MARGARET LAMBERT MCPHERSON
Mrs. Margaret Lambert McPherson, 84, of Siler City died Thursday (10-9-2003) at Universal Healthcare Ramseur.
Funeral services were held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday (10-11-2003) at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel of Liberty.
Surviving are her daughter Kay Holmes of Liberty; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
