ERNST L. VESELEY
Ernst L. Vesely, 94, of Fearrington Village, Pittsboro, died Wednesday (5-22-2002) at his residence.
A memorial service is planned at a later date.
Mr. Vesely came from Germany at the age of 17 and was a successful fur broker. He loved sailing and built his first boat at the age of 14. He was world traveled, spoke several languages, was an art lover and photographer.
He is survived by his partner, Joan Glacken of the home; son, Paul David Vesely of NJ; daughters, Virginia Bohnaker of Lynchburg, VA, and Barbara Brown of Sykesville, MD; sisters, Ursula Globig of Portugal, and Erna Floch of Tequesta, FL; nine grandchildren and eleven great-granchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to UNICEF, 333 East 38th St., New York, NY 10016.
DEWEY L. MARLEY, SR.
Dewey Linville (Hunky) Marley, Sr., 87, of Sunbridge Care in Siler City and formerly of Bennett passed away Sunday (5-26-2002) at the center.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. at Bennett Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Strider officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
A native of Moore County, Mr. Marley was a WWII Navy veteran and was a retired loom fixer. During his younger years, he played semi-pro baseball with Bennett, Highfalls, and Robbins teams. In his later years, he worked at Riverside County Club in Highfalls.
He is survived by his son, Dewey L. (Lindy) Marley, Jr. of Greensboro; daughter, Jennie Frye of Newport News, VA; step-son, Terry Anderson of Greenville, SC; step-daugher, Cheri Johnson of Pine Mt., GA; sister, Mabel Farabee of Greensboro; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one step-grandson.

STERLING C. WRIGHT
Sterling C. Wright, 90, of 105 N. Garden Ave., Siler City, died Friday (5-24-2002) at Chatham Hospital, Inc.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday (5-27-2002) at West End United Methodist Church with Rev. Roger Thompson and Rev. Warren Owens officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jason Garner, Skipper Brady, Steven Brady, Junior Wright, Dickie Wright and Pete Wright.
A native of Chatham County, Mr. Wright was a member of West End United Methodist Church. He was a self-employed painter.
He is survived by his daughters, Mary Liller Morgan and Shirley Jean Wilson, both of Siler City; brother, Glen Wright of Liberty; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

EDWARD L. TILLEY
Edward Lawrence Tilley, 49, of 6309 Kerry Lane, Ocean Isle Beach, formerly of Randleman, died Friday (5-24-2002) at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation, Siler City.
A graveside memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday (5-29-2002) at Randolph Memorial Park with Rev. David McCauley officiating.
A native of Guilford County, Mr. Tilley was a member of First Baptist Church in Randleman. He was a semi-pro golfer and was employed at Golf Shoe Warehouse in North Myrtle Beach. He worked at various golf courses around the area.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Clifford Tilley of Randleman; and his sister, Lynne Marley of Siler City.

KENNETH RAY HUNTSMAN
Kenneth Ray Huntsman of Carrboro, died May 21, 2002 after a battle with cancer. He was 55. Born February 24, 1947 in Sanford, North Carolina, and raised in Chatham County, he was the son of the late Allie Mae Gattis and Larry Huntsman. After serving in the United States Army in Germany, he worked as a computer programmer for UNC-CH, Southern States, Marketplace Systems Group, and IBM. He was active in amateur radio clubs for many years and enjoyed attending HAMM fests. He loved his family, friends and his four Yorkies.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Huntsman of Carrboro; daughter, Alicia Castaneda of Burlington; step-daughter, Lisa Powell of Pittsboro; sister, Marcia Huntsman of Colorado; niece, Carol Rankin of Pittsboro; and two grandchildren.
Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 24 at Walker's Funeral Home in Chapel Hill.

EUGENIA P. MILLER
Eugenia P. Miller, 91, of 643 Browers Chapel Road, Asheboro, died Saturday (5-25-2002) at Randolph Hospital, Inc.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday (5-27-2002) at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bonnie Preston Harris officiating. Burial followed in Oaklawn Cemetery.
A native of Chatham County, Mrs. Miller was retired from Central Telephone Company. She was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher.
She is survived by her husband, Elmer J. Miller; daughter, Betty Miller of the home; brother, George F. Pike of Staley; sisters, Eula Beane of Siler City, Elizabeth Hudson of Guilford College, Anna Belle Cheek of Asheboro, and Evangeline Byrd of Asheboro.

MYRTLE F. SILLS
Myrtle Forrester Sills, 85, of 2311 Dulaire Road, Greensboro, died Friday (5-24-2002) at her home.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday (5-29-2002) at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Chapel with John C. Smith conducting the eulogy. Burial followed in Guilford Memorial Park.
A native of Moore County, Mrs. Sills was a member of Providence United Methodist Church in Chatham County.
She is survived by her nephew, James Kidd, Jr.; great-nephew, Rick Gunter and great-niece, Vicky Newsome.
HAZEL STONE ALSTON
Hazel Stone Alston, of 779 Woody Dr., Graham, died at ARMC on Saturday (5-25-2002).
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday (5-29-2002) at Maxwell's Chapel AME Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
A native of Alamance County, Mrs. Alston was a member of Maxwell's Chapel AME Church, and in past years, she served as president of the Missionary Society and as a member of The Senior Choir.
She is survived by her daughters, Rev. Delores Perry of Pittsboro, Janet Lewis of High Point, Sandra Dunmeyer of Durham, Jerlene Hasam, Kathryn Gibson, Alma Dixon and Barbara Hunter, all of Graham; sons, Marvin Alston and Ronnie Alston, both of Graham, Dwight Alston and Rezell Alston, Jr., both of Mebane; 33 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn McRae, Hilda Enoch, Ruth Alston and Elizabeth Atwater, all of Graham; and brother, James Stone of Graham.
MILDRED P. WOMBLE
Mildred P. Womble, 61, of 1770 St. Luke Church Road, Goldston, died Wednesday (5-22-2002) at Triangle Hospice at the Meadows.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday (5-27-2002) at Gees Grove AME Zion Church with Rev. Allen Moore officiating. Burial followed in Chatham Memorial Park.
A native of Chatham County, Mrs. Womble was an employee of Glendale Hosiery. She was a member of Gees Grove.
She is survived by her sons, Tracy Womble of Tallahassee, FL, and Derrick Womble of Washington, DC; daughter, Nakia Fox of Goldston; sisters, Flora Mae Siler of Siler City, Sadie Wheeler of Washington, DC, and Sharon Price of Suitland, MD; brothers, Dee Price, Jr. of Washington, DC, Henry Joe Price and Grady Price, both of Warren, OH, and Kenneth Price of Antioc, CA; and ten grandchildren.
SANDRA LEE HANNER
Sandra Lee Hanner, 59, of 30 Hyatt Court, Siler City, died Monday (5-13-2002) at her residence.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Friday (5-17-2002) at Lambert Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. William Harrington and Rev. Williard Neal officiating. Burial followed in Chatham Memorial Park.
A native of Coatsville, PA, she was employed by Mastercraft.
She is survived by her daughter, Mechelle Williams of Siler City; sons, Harvey Hanner of Siler City and Tyrone Hanner of Pittsboro; sister, Dottie Diromualdo of Honeybrook, PA; brother, Harry Proudfoot of Coatsville, PA; and six grandchildren.
EDNA D. HORTON
Edna D. Horton, 86, of 1110 N. Sears Avenue, Siler City, died Sunday (5-5-2002) at her residence.
Funeral services were held at 12 p.m. Friday (5-10-2002) at First Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Barry Gray and Rev. Gregory Horton officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
A native of Chatham County, Mrs. Horton was a retired Nursing Assistant.
She is survived by her daughters, Mildred Brown of Chapel Hill, Linda Ezzell of Hampton, VA, and Bertina Baldwin of Carboro; sons, Harry J. Horton and Walter D. Horton, both of Philadelphia, PA, and Aldine Horton of Raleigh; sisters, Neomia Dark of Siler City, Viola Watson of Durham and Creola Smith of Philadelphia, PA; fourteen grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
JOHN HOWARD STAFFORD, SR.
Mr. John Howard Stafford, 87, formerly of Mocksville, died Saturday, May 25, 2002 at SunBridge Nursing Home, Siler City.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, at Eaton Funeral Chapel with Rev. Howard Burrell officiating. Burial followed in Smith Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Stafford was born July 5, 1914 in Iredell County to the late Floyd Lafayette and Mollie Fortner Stafford and was retired, with thirty-three years of service, from Durham Life Insurance Company, where he had been a District Manager and Agent. He served in the US Army during WWII, was a member of the Jefferson-Penn Masonic Lodge in Reidsville and the Scottish Rite. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Wagner Stafford in 1982.
He is survived by his daughters, Cynthia Stafford Shepherd of Morehead City, Molly Stafford Bray of Siler City, and Liz Stafford McConnell of Raleigh; sons, Jerry Price Stafford and John Howard Stafford, Jr., both of Reidsville; ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and sister, Louise Burrell of Salisbury.

DWIGHT G. HALL
Dwight Gordon Hall, 59, of 1491 Buck Ford Road, Asheboro, died Saturday (9-28-2002) at his home.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday (10-1-2002) at New Hope United Methodist Church with Rev. David Nolan officiating.
A native of Portsmouth, Virginia, Mr. Hall was a retired Master Sgt. with the U.S. Air Force after 22 years of service. He was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Diann Samantha Hall; son, Dwight G. Hall, Jr. of Greensboro; daughters, Maria Burke of Siler City and Carolyn Adams of Plant City, FL; brother, Carlton Hall of Chesapeake, VA; and five grandchildren.
