KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. Jay Frank Mann, 58, of 305 East 16th Street, died Saturday, January 22, 2005, at NorthEast Medical Center, following one year of declining health and a serious illness of one week.
A graveside service with interment to follow will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 25, 2005, at Carolina Memorial Park. The Rev. Shawn Beaver will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Monday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Born July 19, 1946 in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late Jacob Cecil Mann and Edna Stegall Mann Kiser.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Dancy Mann; and two grandchildren.

Gussie Ree Tyner

BIRTH DATE: December 2, 1908
DEATH DATE: January 22, 2005

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Miss Gussie Ree Tyner, 96, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, January 22, 2005.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 25, 2005, at Kirkwood Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Howard Tyas will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The body will remain at Lady's Funeral Home until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Born December 2, 1908 in Madison County, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Caswell Jackson Tyner and Nettie McConnell Tyner. She was employed at Cannon Mills from 1926 until 1960 and later was a caregiver at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital and also did in-home care. She was a founding member of Kirkwood Presbyterian Church where she held a lifetime membership in the Women of the Church. She contributed her time to every facet of the church and was an active circle member and in charge of communion. Miss Tyner loved to travel Florida to visit family and also enjoyed spending time in Hawaii.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Willie Crowe, Reba Wilhite and Myrtie Hughes; and three brothers, Ewell Tyner, Sam Tyner and O'Neal Tyner.
Survivors include 13 nieces and nephews, including Doris Ludwick and Ronnie Crowe, both of Kannapolis, and others from out of town.
Memorials may be sent to Kirkwood Presbyterian Church, 900 Klondale Avenue, Kannapolis, NC 28081.

Arthur Thomas Hearne

BIRTH DATE: June 29, 1959
DEATH DATE: January 15, 2005

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. Arthur "Artie" Thomas Hearne, 45, of 9300 Dogwood Drive, Kannapolis, died Saturday, January 15, 2005 at NorthEast Medical Center.
A memorial service will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 20, 2005, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jim Jewell will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of a sister, Andrea McRorie, 5575 Sam Broadway Loop, Kannapolis.
Born June 29, 1959 in Norfolk, Virginia, he was the son of Larry Thomas Hearne, Sr. and Rebbecca "Becky" Anne Foil Anderson. He was a maintenance worker for Oldcastle Precast, Inc. He was a member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church. He was raised by his maternal grandparents, the late Floyd and Edna Foil.
In addition to his maternal grandparents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Hearne, Jr.; and his paternal grandparents, Cletus and Ruby Hearne.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by four sisters, Andrea "Sissy" Hearne McRorie of Kannapolis, Linda DeMunbrun of Salisbury, Chris Whitehead of High Point, and Susan Hearne McLaurin of Harrisburg; four brothers, Tim Hearne currently serving in Iraq, Bill DeMunbrun and Eddie DeMunbrun, both of Gillette, Wyoming and Bob DeMunbrun of Worland, Wyoming; step-dad, Bill Anderson; step-mom, Joyce Hearne; and two special friends with whom he made his home, T. B. and Debra Ann Mullins.

Margaret Hunsucker Johnson

BIRTH DATE: June 22, 1924
DEATH DATE: August 19, 2004

Midland, NC - Mrs. Margaret Hunsucker Johnson, 80, of 26 Robinwood Drive, Midland, formerly of Weldon Circle, Concord died Thursday, August 19, 2004 at NorthEast Medical Center after three weeks of serious illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 22, 2004, at Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel. Ralph Johnston will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday at Lady’s Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of a son, Robert Johnson, 6610 Weldon Circle, Concord.
Mrs. Johnson was born June 22, 1924 in Rowan County. She was a daughter of the late Thomas Gilbert Hunsucker and Mary Ethel Ervin Hunsucker. She retired from the washcloth department of Cannon Mills plant one in Kannapolis.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Ray Johnson, in 1988.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by two sons, Robert Ray Johnson, Jr. and his wife, Carol Ann, and James Steven Johnson and his wife, Ellen, all of Concord; two, sisters, Mrs. Mildred Lyerly of Kannapolis and Mrs. Mary Wilkerson of Red Barn, VA; one brother, Bob Hunsucker of Grovetown, GA; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and a loving friend and companion, James M. Lisk.

Kenneth Wayne Coe

BIRTH DATE: October 28, 1937
DEATH DATE: August 21, 2004

Lexington, NC - Mr. Kenneth Wayne Coe, 66, 204-B Mt. Moriah Drive, Lexington, died Saturday, August 21, 2004, at High Point Regional Hospital in High Point, NC.
A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, August 28, 2004, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis. The Rev. Clyde Akers will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of his brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Daphne Coe, 912 S. Juniper Street, Kannapolis.
Born October 28, 1937, in Iredell County, he was a son of the late Richard H. Coe and Jamie Wren White Coe.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Linney Coe.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Reid Coe; two daughters, Julie Coe Grice of Thomasville, NC and Tammie Coe Heintzman of San Marcos, CA; two step-daughters, Tammy Kaufman of Wake Forest, NC and Tawni Byrd of Winston Salem, NC; a brother, Bobby Coe and his wife, Daphne, of Kannapolis; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Faye Elizabeth Blackwelder Biggers

BIRTH DATE: February 21, 1918
DEATH DATE: August 28, 2004

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Faye Elizabeth Blackwelder Biggers, 86, a resident of Caremoor Retirement Center and formerly of Mooresville Road, died Saturday, August 28, 2004, at Caremoor Retirement Center.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 31, 2004 at Bethpage Presbyterian Church. Dr. Steve Mowery will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Monday in the fellowship hall at Bethpage Presbyterian Church. At other times, they will be at the home of her daughter, Linda VanPelt, 7171 Tuckaseegee Road.
Mrs. Biggers was born February 21, 1918 in Cabarrus County. She was a daughter of the late Albert Jerome Blackwelder and Cora McCall Blackwelder. She was employed for many years at Hoover Hosiery Mill in Concord. She was a member of Bethpage Presbyterian Church for 46 years and was active in the Circles of Presbyterian Women and the Young at Hearts. She was a former member of Bethpage Home Extension Club. She was a good cook and enjoyed quilting.
In addition to her parents, was preceded in death by her husband, Herman W. Biggers, who died in 1985; and two brothers, Floyd Blackwelder and A.J. Blackwelder.
Mrs. Biggers is survived by her daughter, Linda VanPelt, and her husband, Reid, of Kannapolis; two grandchildren, Chip VanPelt of Concord and Carrie VanPelt of Kannapolis; two sisters, Leona Pressley of Charlotte and Betty Jean Cranford of Concord; three brothers, Lawrence Blackwelder of Concord, Fred Blackwelder of Charlotte, and Wick Blackwelder of Greensboro.
Memorials may be sent to Bethpage Presbyterian Church, 6020 Mooresville Road, Kannapolis, NC 28081.

Polly Cauble Earley

BIRTH DATE: January 4, 1916
DEATH DATE: August 28, 2004

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Polly Cauble Earley, a resident of Best of Care, and formerly of East C Street, Kannapolis, died Saturday, August 28, 2004, at NorthEast Medical Center after several years of declining health and being seriously ill since July 5.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 31, 2004, at Calvary Baptist Church. Dr. Dale Tanner and Dr. Greg Pierce will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of her daughter, Joyce E. Bost, 205 Vanderbilt Avenue (Enochville Community), China Grove.
Born January 4, 1916, in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late William F. Cauble and Annie Roseman Cauble. She retired in 1979, after 46 years of service, from the washcloth department of Cannon Mills. Prior to her membership at Calvary Baptist, she taught Sunday school for many years at Elwood Lane Freewill Baptist Church and Bethlehem Freewill Baptist Church.
After her retirement, she turned to her passion for helping others by driving her friends to doctor’s appointments and running numerous errands. Up until the decline of her health in the fall of 2003 she, for many years, had a card and tract ministry. One of the highlights of her life was her trip to the Holy Land in 1977 and being baptized in the River Jordan.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters and four brothers.
Survivors include her daughter, Joyce E. Bost, and her husband, Don, of China Grove; two grandchildren, Yvonne Haney Dykes, and her husband, Keith, of Hinesville, Georgia and Brandt Haney, and his wife, Teri, of Powder Springs, Georgia; and five great-grandchildren, Breanne, Carlee, Mackenzie, Amanda and Jadon.

Mason Myrl "Bill" Benson

BIRTH DATE: August 13, 1926
DEATH DATE: September 3, 2004

CONCORD, NC - Mr. Mason Myrl "Bill" Benson, 78, of 8720 Overcash Road, Concord, died Friday, September 3, 2004, at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte, following three years of declining health and six months of serious illness.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, September 6, 2004, at Shiloh United Methodist Church. The Rev. Michael B. Harrill and the Rev. Charles Gibbons will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors conducted by DAV Chapter 27 of Concord.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence.
Born August 13, 1926, in Cabarrus County, he was a son of the late Oland Benson and Dema McCall Benson. He was retired from the maintenance department of UNCC. He was a lifetime member of Shiloh United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Odell Volunteer Fire Department and the Odell Lions Club. He also served in the Pacific during World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Evalee Myers; and a brother, R. H. "Dick" Benson.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Bost Benson; three sons, William Myrl Benson and his wife, Tona, of Landis, Donald Wayne Benson and his wife, Sherrie, and Charles Ray Benson and his wife, Diane, of Concord; a sister, Hazel Bacon of Salisbury; two brothers, O. D. Benson and John Benson, both of Concord; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Sam B. Graham

BIRTH DATE: October 22, 1921
DEATH DATE: September 9, 2004

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Sam B. Graham, 82, of 1409 Ontario Drive, Kannapolis, died Thursday, September 9, 2004, at his home.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, September 11, 2004, at Central Baptist Church. Interment with military rites conducted by DAV Chapter 27 of Concord will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The body will remain at Lady's Funeral Home until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence.
Born October 22, 1921, in Bowman, Georgia, he was a son of the late John B. Graham and Ellen Fleeman Graham. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Kannapolis and DAV Chapter 27 of Concord. He retired several years ago from the No. 6 Weave Room of Cannon Mills, Plant One in Kannapolis. He was a US Army veteran of World War II and was the recipient of the Distinguished Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with four Bronze Stars.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Benton and Mazelle Stewart; and four brothers, L. V. Graham, Mathes Graham, Junious Graham and Plumer Graham.
Survivors include his wife, Mavis Woodward Graham; four sons, Ben Graham of Mt. Pleasant, Roger Bass, Daniel Graham and Todd Graham, all of Kannapolis; five sisters, Freda Chandler of Rockwell, Burma Warren of Kannapolis, Devon Graham of Independence, Virginia, Sherrie Stacy of Concord and Charlene Hill of China Grove; one sister, Lois McMath of Winston Salem; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Donna Brown Jewell

BIRTH DATE: October 25, 1949
DEATH DATE: September 13, 2004

ROCKWELL, NC - Mrs. Donna Brown Jewell, 54, of 4565 Cook Road, Rockwell, passed away Monday, September 13, 2004, at NorthEast Medical Center in Concord, after a long valiant battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, September 18, 2004, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis. The Rev. Tony Biles will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Born October 25, 1949, in El Paso, Texas, she was a daughter of the late Donald I. Brown and Irma Landsberg Brown. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, John Jewell; an aunt, Evelyn Cippoletti of Rockwell; and a cousin, Furie Cippoletti of Seattle, WA.
