James Funderburke Stancil

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. James Funderburke Stancil, 89, of 607 Ebenezer Road, Kannapolis, died Monday, May 2, 2005, at NorthEast Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2005, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Terry Deitz and the Rev. Larry Beaver will officiate. Interment with military graveside rites will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence.
Born February 21, 1916, in Mt. Croghan, SC, he was a son of the late Joseph Bennett Stancil and Bertha Leona Steen Stancil. He had lived in this area since 1939 and retired several years ago from the cutting room of Cannon Mills, Plant One. He was a US Army veteran of World War II and was a member of Poston Perkins VFW Post 8989 in Kannapolis. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church and enjoyed attending church, singing and visiting area nursing homes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Perry Stancil.
Survivors include his wife, Janie Steele Stancil; a daughter, Brenda Stancil of the home; and three sisters, Clara Jenkins and Leona Hancock, both of Mt. Croghan, SC and Reba Stancil of Cheraw, SC.

Ralph Turpin Sharp, Jr.

BIRTH DATE: April 14, 1917
DEATH DATE: April 28, 2005

CONCORD, NC - Mr. Ralph Turpin Sharp, Jr., 88, of 4980 Roberta Road, Concord, died Thursday, April 28, 2005, at Avante at Concord.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, May 1, 2005, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel in Kannapolis. Pastor Fenton Jones will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Born April 14, 1917 in Smithfield, Virginia, he was the son of the late Ralph Turpin Sharp and Carolie Gay Sharp. He was a retired electrical estimator and engineer with Port City Electric in Mooresville where he was employed for 15 years. He formerly worked for 25 years with J & J Electric Contractors in Southern California.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Harvey Sharp.
Survivors include his daughter, Margaret Anne Sharp Cipriani and husband, Romeo, of Concord; a sister, Sara Brown of Redding, California; five grandchildren, Jerry Cipriani, Laurie Cipriani, Melinda Cipriani, Patricia Cipriani and Paul Cipriani; two great-grandchildren, Isabella Cipriani and Natalie Cipriani.
Mr. Sharp is also survived by his dear friend, Alma Lequire, and her son, Jerry, and his wife, Nancy.

Nannie Troutman Hartis

BIRTH DATE: October 20, 1910
DEATH DATE: April 26, 2005

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Nannie "Nan" Troutman Eagle Hartis, 94, a resident of Transitional Health Services of Kannapolis and formerly of Irish Potato Road, Rockwell, died Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at Transitional Health Services.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2005, at Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church. The Rev. Karen Kaser Odor will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of a daughter, Jeanette Weatherman, 5487 Irish Potato Road, Kannapolis.
Born October 20, 1910, in Cabarrus County, she was a daughter of the late William Manlus Albert Troutman and Ida Jane Wensil Troutman. She retired several years ago from the weave room of Cannon Mills, Plant Four. She was a member of Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Senior Choir at Cannon Memorial YMCA in Kannapolis.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Lee Andrew Eagle, who died August 4, 1974 and Willie "Bill" Jefferson Hartis, who died April 22, 1991.
Survivors include two daughters, Jeanette Eagle Weatherman and husband, Doyle, of Kannapolis and Marjorie Eagle Long of Concord; a brother, W. C. "Bill" Troutman of China Grove; three grandchildren, Patsy Weatherman Caudill and husband, Lester, of Kannapolis, Nancy Weatherman Cooke and husband, Clayton, of Boone, and Bob Weatherman and wife, Cheryl, of Concord; six great-grandchildren, Aprille Caudill Bell and husband, Tim, of China Grove, Heather Caudill Puckett and husband, Chris, of Kannapolis, Barrett Cooke and wife, Cassandra, of Huntersville, Jennifer Cooke of New Bern, Katie Weatherman and Amy Weatherman, both of Concord; a two great-great-grandchildren, T. J. and Isaac Bell.
Memorials may be sent to Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church, 6001 Old Salisbury-Concord Road, Kannapolis, NC 28083.

David Ray Gordon, Sr.

BIRTH DATE: August 21, 1947
DEATH DATE: April 25, 2005

MT. PLEASANT, NC - Mr. David Ray Gordon, Sr., 57, of 644 Skyland Drive, Mt. Pleasant, died Monday, April 25, 2005, at Avante at Concord.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at the VA National Cemetery in Salisbury. Rev. Marvin Honeycutt will officiate.
Born August 21, 1947, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late William Howard Gordon and Hollen Pickens Gordon. He was a veteran of the US Army.
Survivors include a son, David Gordon, Jr. of Conway, SC; two daughters, Michelle Hatcher of Myrtle Beach, SC and Amanda Gordon of Daytona, Florida; a sister, Mary Jane Jones of China Grove; and special friends, Louise and Paul Walker of Mt. Pleasant.

Mary Smith Seymore

BIRTH DATE: February 15, 1915
DEATH DATE: April 24, 2005

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Mary Smith Seymore, 90, of 328 Vance Street, Kannapolis, died Sunday, April 24, 2005, at NorthEast Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Raymond Davis will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of a daughter, Vivian Lambert, 108 Kirk Street, China Grove.
Born February 15, 1915, in Madison County, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Will T. Smith and Nona Carithers Smith. She retired after 40 years of service from the sheet department of Cannon Mills, Plant One. She was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Roscoe Seymore; a son, Bill Seymore; three sisters, Nora Gray, Nina Kidd and Willie Lou Anthony; and two brothers, Grady Smith and Odell Smith.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Lowder and Vivian Oline Lambert, both of China Grove; three sisters; Lola Kidd, Ruth Hendrix and Velma Adams, all of Comer, Georgia; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren.

Larry Thomas Love

BIRTH DATE: August 8, 1939
DEATH DATE: April 18, 2005

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. Larry Thomas Love, 65, of 209 Hahn Street, Concord, died Monday, April 18, 2005 at his home following six weeks of serious illness.
A graveside service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at Carolina Memorial Park. Rev. Gary Posey will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at his residence.
Mr. Love was born August 8, 1939 in Cabarrus County. He was a son of the late Eugene W. Love and Mattie Ann Shoe Love. He formerly was a truck driver and most recently operated real estate rentals.
Mr. Love is survived by his wife, Loretta Parham Love; son, Timothy Larry Love and his wife, Cindy, of Concord; sister, Shirley Noblitt of Kannapolis; brother, Jerry Lee Love of Jacksonville, FL; granddaughter, Christina N. Love; and a number of nieces and nephews and a special sister-in-law.

Bertha Propst Garner

BIRTH DATE: August 12, 1912
DEATH DATE: April 17, 2005

CONCORD, NC - Mrs. Bertha Propst Garner, 92, of St. Andrews Living Center and formerly of Bishop Lane, died Sunday, April 17, 2005, at St. Andrews Living Center.
Funeral services are scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Willie Rash will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 11 to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Mrs. Garner was born August 12, 1912 in Claremont, NC. She was a daughter of the late George G. Propst and Emma Sigmon Propst. She retired in 1972 from the Sheet Department of Cannon Mills Plant One in Kannapolis after 50 years of service. She was a member of Centerview Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Garner, on November 15, 1957.
Mrs. Propst is survived by her daughter, Sandra "Sandy" Garner Gilmore and her husband, Billy, of Rockwell; son, Jerry Wayne Garner and his wife, Dot, of Franklin, TN; sister, Rosa Furr of Jonesville, NC; four grandchildren, Cindy Clark and her husband, Austin, Jay Garner, Jason Gilmore and his wife, Chondra, and Steven Gilmore and his wife, Natalie; six great grandchildren, Logan Clark, Jordan Clark, Jay Alexander Garner, Eli Gilmore, Gabriel Gilmore, and Ethan Gilmore.

Vinnie Polk Shinn

BIRTH DATE: July 8, 1923
DEATH DATE: April 3, 2005

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Vinnie Polk Shinn, 81, of 1401 Oakwood Avenue, Kannapolis, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, April 3, 2005, at her home, following a long, courageous battle with cancer.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at Oakwood Cemetery in Concord. Chaplain John Sell will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of her son, George Alfred Shinn II, 1401 Oakwood Avenue, Kannapolis.
Born July 8, 1923 in Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of the late Cleveland Polk and Bertha Hartsell Polk. She formerly worked for Montgomery Ward and was the retired owner and operator of Vinnie's Image Makers. She was a member of First Assembly Worship Center in Concord.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Alfred Shinn.
Survivors include a daughter, Tamera S. Smith and husband, Smitty, of Concord; a son, George Alfred Shinn II of the home; a granddaughter, Tonya L. Gatlin and husband, Bart, and a great-granddaughter, Ashley, of Austin, Texas; a grandson, W. Shawn Bullard and wife, Jennifer, great-granddaughter, Alexus, great-grandson, David, and two step-grandsons, Craige and Josh of Kannapolis; and a sister, Ivalee Allen of Concord.

Linda Sain Jordan

BIRTH DATE: December 16, 1942
DEATH DATE: March 31, 2005

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Linda Sain Jordan, 62, of 1217 Milton Avenue, Kannapolis, died Thursday, March 31, 2005, at her home, following a number of years of declining health.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2005, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Eddie Black will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Sunday, at Lady's Funeral Home.
Born December 16, 1942 in Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of the late Elmer Eugene Sain and Beulah McCullough Sain. She was a member of Midway United Methodist Church and retired from Cannon Mills Plant One.
She is survived by three daughters, Gina Jordan, Trina Lamberth and Elizabeth Stallings, all of Kannapolis; a sister, Jean Atwell of Kannapolis; one brother, Walter C. Sain of Kannapolis; and four grandchildren, Shannon Jordan, Brandon Lamberth, Alicia Stallings and Scott Stallings, Jr.

Robert Terry Laws

BIRTH DATE: October 11, 1947
DEATH DATE: March 25, 2005

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. Robert Terry Laws, 57, of 1411 Longbow Drive, Kannapolis, died Friday, March 25, 2005, at NorthEast Medical Center.
A memorial service will be conducted at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, March 27, 2005, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:15 p.m. Sunday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence.
Born October 11, 1947 in High Point, he was a son of the late Rufus Laws, Sr. and Fronie Carroll Laws. He was a graduate of Western Carolina University and was employed for many years at Consolidated Freight-ways in Charlotte.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Pearl Walker.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda Ervin Laws; three sons, Jason Laws of Los Angeles, CA, Matthew Laws and Brent Laws, both of Charlotte; a step-son, Chad Ferguson of Kannapolis; a sister, Jackie Howard of Thomasville; two brothers, Bobby Ray Laws and his wife, Jerry, and Rufus Laws, Jr. and his wife, Fran, all of High Point; and several special nieces and nephews.
