KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Ruth Lunsford Hampton, 74, a resident of Big Elm Nursing Center and formerly of 1201 Rainbow Drive, Kannapolis, died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at NorthEast Medical Center in Concord.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2003, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Kannapolis Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of her daughters, Debra Rufty and Christine Litaker, 1201 Rainbow Drive, Kannapolis.
Born December 7, 1928, in Cabarrus County, she was a daughter of the late William Henry "Ted" Lunsford and the late Holly Coxey Lunsford. She retired many years ago from Tuscarora Yarns in Mt. Pleasant. She formerly worked in the Number Seven Spinning Room of Cannon Mills, Plant One in Kannapolis. She was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed working with crafts and crocheting.
Survivors include two daughters, Debra Rufty and Christine Litaker, of Kannapolis; two sons, Larry Hampton and his wife, Wadine, of China Grove and Perry Hampton and his wife, Marlene, of Rockwell; two sisters, Helen Brooks Gillespie of Powhatan, VA and Opal McCool of Williamsburg, VA; eight grandchildren, Erin Hampton, Preston Hampton, Kelly Poteat, Kerry Gunner, Cody Hampton, Joel Hinson, Hollie Gobble and Michael Litaker; and three great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Joshua and Jordan Poteat.

Nicholas Beachum "Nick" Duncan

BIRTH DATE: May 18, 1929
DEATH DATE: April 12, 2003

CHINA GROVE, NC - Mr. Nicholas Beachum "Nick" Duncan, 73, of Highway 153, China Grove, NC, died Saturday, April 12, 2003, at his home after ten months of declining health and six weeks of serious illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for 7:30 PM Monday, April 14, 2003, at Kannapolis West "A" Church of God. Rev. Sam Crisp and Rev. James Griffin will officiate. Burial will follow at 11:00 AM Tuesday in West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 PM at the church on Monday.
Mr. Duncan was born May 18, 1929 in McDowell County, NC. He was a son of the late Lonnie Mack Duncan and Myrtle Walker Duncan. He retired from Fieldcrest Cannon in Kannapolis and was formerly employed with Douglas Aircraft in Charlotte and General Electric in Salisbury. He was a member of Kannapolis West "A" Church of God.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, O.C. Duncan.
Mr. Duncan is survived by his wife, Maudine Flowers Duncan; daughter, Donna D. Sustar of Laurel Springs, NC; son, David Alan Duncan of Kannapolis; two sisters, Doris Marshall of Anderson, SC, Lorie Noble of Richmond, VA; brother, Fred B. Duncan of Birmingham, AL; three grandchildren, Lonnie Mack Duncan, II of Rockwell, NC, Josh Alan Duncan of Albemarle, NC, and Lindsay Nicole Sustar of Laurel Springs, NC; and five great grandchildren.

Frances Troutman Sides

BIRTH DATE: September 30, 1918
DEATH DATE: April 26, 2003

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Frances Troutman Sides, 84, of 241 Wensil Lane, Kannapolis, died Saturday, April 26, 2003, at NorthEast Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2003, at Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church. The Rev. Evelyn Browning, Rev. Charles Guy and Rev. Marion Fulk will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence.
Born September 30, 1918, in Cabarrus County, she was a daughter of the late Rufus Troutman and the late Hattie Hudson Troutman. Mrs. Sides was a homemaker. She was a member of Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church and the Sunshine Group. Her husband, J Lynn Sides, preceded her in death in 1977.
Survivors include two daughters, Dianne Sides Hartis and her husband, Barry, of Greensboro, Janice Sides Wensil and her husband, Ronnie, of Kannapolis; a son, Jerry E. Sides and his wife, Betty, of El Paso, Texas; one sister, Lora Canup of Kannapolis; five grandchildren, Brian Wensil of Kannapolis, Pam Cash of Winston Salem, Melissa Putnam of Bessemer City, Elizabeth Sides and Kenneth Sides, both of El Paso, Texas; and five great-grandchildren, Catie, Courtney, Rachel, Joshua and Jordan.

Lula Long Bost

BIRTH DATE: March 9, 1905
DEATH DATE: April 27, 2003

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Lula Long Bost, 98, formerly of Echerd Street, Kannapolis, died Sunday, April 27, 2003, at Big Elm Nursing Center in Kannapolis after eight years of declining health and two weeks of serious illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3:30 PM Tuesday, April 29, 2003, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Robert Yount will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:30 PM Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bost was born March 9, 1905 in Rowan County. She was a daughter of the late David H. Long and Ida Walter Long. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence C. Bost, in February 1979 and a son, Carl Ray Bost, in May 1997.
Mrs. Bost is survived by two sons, John D. Bost of Fayetteville, NC and Clarence C. Bost, Jr. of Granite Quarry, NC; sister, Alice Deal of Kannapolis; brother, Frank Long of Kannapolis; five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

Peggy Collins Loudermilk

BIRTH DATE: October 12, 1912
DEATH DATE: May 10, 2003

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Peggy Iris Collins Loudermilk, 90, of 2806 A. J. Henry Park Drive, Tallahassee, Florida and formerly of Lane Street in Kannapolis, died Saturday, May 10, 2003, at Tandem Health Care of Tallahassee.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 16, 2003, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Tom Whidden and Rev. Fenton Jones will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11:00 a.m. Friday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Born October 12, 1912, in Stuart, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late George Collins and the late Rebecca Dalton Collins. Mrs. Loudermilk formerly worked as a nurse's aide at Timrick Nursing Home, now Five Oaks Manor. She also worked for nursing homes in Florida. Mrs. Loudermilk was a member of First Assembly of God in Concord. Her husband, Ottis Bryant Loudermilk, preceded her in death on October 16, 1987.
Survivors include a daughter, Vickie Ann Cummings and her husband, Mike, of Tallahassee, Florida; two sisters, Mary Wright of Asheboro, NC and Frances Gailey of Fort Myers, Florida; and a grandson, Matthew Earl Cummings.

Margaret Vannoy Smith

BIRTH DATE: December 15, 1924
DEATH DATE: May 18, 2003

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Margaret Vannoy Smith, 78, of 319 East 20th Street, Kannapolis, died Sunday, May 18, 2003, at NorthEast Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2003, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. David Myers and Rev. Tony Fox will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Born December 15, 1924, in Wilkes County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Robert Vannoy and the late Maggie Wilcox Vannoy. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker. She was a member of Rodgers Park Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Iris Motley of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Darlene Seaford and Lynn Shepherd, both of Kannapolis; five sisters, Mrs. John (Frances) Shutt of Raleigh, Mrs. Buck (Alice) Dillard of Millers Creek, NC, Mrs. Ikey Brown of Wilkesboro, NC, Mrs. Betty Trent of Columbia, SC and Mrs. Lucille Adams of Kannapolis; one brother, John Luke Vannoy of North Wilkesboro, NC; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Lennie Jones Michael

BIRTH DATE: July 12, 1910
DEATH DATE: May 24, 2003

SYOSSET, NY - Mrs. Lennie Jones DeHart Michael, 92, a resident of Christian Fellowship Home in Syosset, New York, and formerly of Alexander Avenue in Kannapolis, died Saturday, May 24, 2003, at Syosset Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Thursday, May 29, 2003, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. David Myers and Rev. Coy Privette will officiate. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Born July 12, 1910, in Sparta, NC, she was a daughter of the late Lonnie Jones and the late Laura Mabe Jones. Mrs. Michael retired several years ago from Cannon Mills Company. She was a member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Elmer Bergen DeHart and Garland Michael.
Survivors include two brothers, James Jones of Huntington, NY and Coy Jones of High Point, NC.

Willie Harrison Brewer

BIRTH DATE: March 7, 1918
DEATH DATE: May 27, 2003

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mr. Willie Harrison "Bill" Brewer, 85, of 921 Maywood Street, Kannapolis, died Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at his residence.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2003, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. James Strickland and Rev. Wes Judy will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Born March 7, 1918, in Alexander County, NC, he was a son of the late Benjamin Wiley Brewer and the late Noney Lee Shoemaker Brewer. He retired in 1982 as a mechanic with Cannon Mills Company. He was a member of West Point Baptist Church. Mr. Brewer enjoyed his family, friends and special pet, "Missy".
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Pearl Queen Brewer, who died January 18, 1991; and a son, Jerry E. Brewer, who died February 24, 1988.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy B. Lloyd of Kannapolis and Kay B. Yates of Mooresville; three sons, William Kenneth "Butch" Brewer of Kannapolis, David E. Brewer of Greenville, SC, Larry M. Brewer of Davidson; seven grandchildren, Aprille B. Henrickson of Concord, LeAnn B. Barnette and Cindy Brewer, both of Greenville, SC, Jennifer B. Childers of Norfolk, VA, Bradley Brewer of Davidson, Brett Lloyd and Valerie Lloyd, both of Kannapolis; and three great-grandchildren, Hunter Cole Henrickson, Adam Kerry Barnette and Amy Catherine Barnette.

Mable Perry Barringer

BIRTH DATE: November 15, 1914
DEATH DATE: May 30, 2003

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Mable Annie Perry Barringer, 88, a resident of Avante at Concord, and formerly of Desota Avenue in Kannapolis, died Friday, May 30, 2003, at NorthEast Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2003, at Kannapolis Church of Christ. Mr. Kirk Sams will officiate. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Kannapolis Church of Christ, 2315 Concord Lake Road, Kannapolis. At other times they will be at the home of a niece, Cassie Cannon, 705 Rainbow Drive, Kannapolis.
Born November 15, 1914, in Union County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas William Perry and the late Ethel Gertrude Helms Perry. She retired several years ago from the Set Department of Cannon Mills, Plant One in Kannapolis. Following retirement, she volunteered at NorthEast Medical Center for several years. Mable was a dedicated daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt and most important to her, a member of Kannapolis Church of Christ. She leaves a legacy of faithfulness to the Lord and His Church, an example to all of patience, perseverance and commitment. Her greatest wish would be for others to be led to Christ by the example of her life as she obeyed Christ and His example. The absolute truths of the Bible, God's Word, were her guide and now are her comfort. She had a great love for her family, always thinking of them first, a great forgiving heart was an example to all of us.
In addition to he parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Otis Barringer, who died July 20, 1992; a son, Thomas Lawson Barringer, who died March 3, 1989; a sister, Lucy Shull; and six brothers, Mack Perry, Robert Perry, T. W. Perry, J. C. Perry, Marshal Perry and Jack Perry.
Survivors include three sisters, Johnie Nestlehutt of Kannapolis, Margie Pusser of Chesterfield, SC and Martha Nesbit of Marion; one brother, Joe Perry of Reidsville; she is also survived by many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews who will all miss her.

Myrtle Carringer James

BIRTH DATE: July 18, 1921
DEATH DATE: June 5, 2003

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Mrs. Myrtle Carringer James, 81, of 1108 Birch Street, Kannapolis, went home to be with the lord on Thursday, June 5, 2003, at Five Oaks Manor in Concord.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Monday, June 9, 2003, at West Point Baptist Church. Rev. Greg Barefoot will officiate. Burial will follow at Kannapolis Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 PM Sunday at Lady's Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the home of Mrs. James.
Mrs. James was born July 18, 1921 in Chesterfield County, SC. She was a daughter of the late P.L. Teal and Bessie White Teal. She retired from the Distribution Center of Cannon Mills, Plant One. She was a member of West Point Baptist Church for more that 50 years. She was a poet and short story writer. She had one of her short stories, “Urgent Misson”, published in “Lifeglow” magazine in November of 1995.
Mrs. James, in addition to her parents, is preceded in death by her first husband, John Carringer, her second husband, Lacy James, a grandson, Kevin Collins.
Mrs. James is survived by a daughter, Sandra Mowery of China Grove; son, Harold Carringer of Mt. Pleasant; brother, Roger Teal of Kannapolis; four grandchildren, Amy Gittings, Eddie Mowery, Michelle Sides, Angela Carringer; 2 great grandchildren, Tyler Sides and Dylan Hull. She is also survived by Vera Thompson of Kannapolis, who became Myrtle’s second daughter upon her sister’s death.
