MIDLAND — Kathleen Black Flowe Rosser, 80, 1125 Alvin Hough Road, died Monday (Aug. 30, 1999) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born Feb. 22, 1919, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Rosser was a daughter of the late Emmett Clint Black and Annie Black Pope Vanderburg. A homemaker, she was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and Midland Chapter 260, Order of the Eastern Star.
Her husbands, Paul Yates Flowe and Harland Atkins Rosser, preceded her in death.
Survivors include son Mitchell Yates Flowe, Oakboro; daughter Mrs. Kenneth B. (Paula Flowe) Allen, Cary; brothers C.M. Black, Gold Hill, and Joe B. Black, Mint Hill; sisters Avous Black Liles, Salisbury, Mrs. J.C. (Smaro Black) Sossoman, Morganton, and Mrs. A.J. (Joyce Black) Tucker and Mary Ann Black Black, both of Midland; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Bethel United Methodist Church, Midland, conducted by the Rev. Rex Gibbs and the Rev. Jim Weekley. Burial, church cemetery.
Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on Alvin Hough Road.

Wanda Talbert Collins
ALBEMARLE — Wanda Talbert Collins, 48, 503 Lisk St., died Monday (Aug. 30, 1999) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 23, 1951, in Stanly County, Mrs. Collins was a daughter of James Douglas and Esther Almond Talbert of Albemarle. Employed by Homes by Oakwood, she was a member of Kendall’s Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include husband David Laverne Collins; daughters Tracy Collins, of the home, and Melody Page, Stanfield; brother Gary Douglas Talbert, Albemarle; sister Brenda Mauney, Salisbury; and one granddaughter.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Kendall’s Baptist Church, New London, conducted by the Rev. Sonny Reeves. The body will be placed in the church at 1: 30. Burial, church cemetery.

Lydia Grace Baker, infant
Lydia Grace Baker, infant daughter of Larry and Julia Hollandsworth Baker of 140 Spicewood Lane, formerly of Raleigh, died at her home at birth Monday (Aug. 30, 1999).
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include brother Landon Baker, of the home; sisters Hannah, Meredith and Abigail Baker, all of the home; maternal grandparents Kenneth and Jean Hollandsworth, Raleigh; and paternal grandfather Boyce Baker, Benson.

Michael Scott Weant
CHINA GROVE — Michael Scott Weant, 35, 1950 Shue Road, died Tuesday (Aug. 31, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after two months of illness.
Born Jan. 13, 1964, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Weant was a son of Roy Daniel and Evelyn Childers Weant, China Grove. He attended South Rowan High School, where he was active with the band and ran track. He received a diploma from Davidson Community College. Formerly employed by Cannon Mills at plant 8 and the Swink plant, he worked for Electronic Sound and Equipment Co. Inc., in Concord, prior to retiring due to ill health. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 315, Grace Lutheran Church, where he received his Eagle Scout award at 14 after earning 37 merit badges and 10 skill awards. He was on the staff of Camp John J. Barnhardt, served as patrol leader and den chief for Webelos and was inducted into Order of the Arrow.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include sister Mrs. Michael (Angela Dawn) Lambert, China Grove.
Services: 3 p.m. Thursday, Northcrest Chapel, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. Frank Gribble, the Rev. Tom Smith and the Rev. Nathan Blackwelder. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park.

Tallie Lanier Peoples
MOCKSVILLE — Tallie Lanier Peoples, 89, Fred Lanier Road, died Monday (Aug. 30, 1999) at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
Born Dec. 16, 1909, in Davidson County, Mrs. Peoples was a daughter of the late Mary Jane Grubbs and Fred Lanier. She retired from Miller’s Restaurant with more than 25 years of service.
She attended Calahaln Friendship Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by husband Alonzo L. Peoples and son Joe Peoples.
Survivors include daughters Ruby Stevens, Winston-Salem, and Frances Farmer, Mocksville; sister Freddie Lanier, Walkertown; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Eaton Funeral Service, conducted by the Rev. G. Carroll Jordan. Burial, Ijames Crossroads Baptist Church cemetery.

Admiral Dewey Presnell
MOCKSVILLE — Admiral Dewey Presnell, 84, 454 Fairfield Road, died Monday (Aug. 30, 1999) at Meadowbrook Manor Nursing Care, Clemmons.
Born Sept. 30, 1914, in Watauga County, Mr. Presnell was the son of the late George and Ida Harmon Presnell. He was a retired farmer and of the Primitive Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jettie Floy P. Presnell, and his second wife, Irene Overcash Presnell.
Survivors include daughters Linda Presnell, Linville, Lovie Presnell, Clemmons, Effie Crane and Sue Smith, both of Morganton; sons Lloyd and Gilbert Presnell, both of Boone, Olen Presnell, Vilas, and Larry Presnell, Mocksville; stepdaughters Judy Stubbs and Christine Harmon, both of China Grove; stepsons, Clifford, Jerry and Jeffery Overcash, all of China Grove; half brothers Felix Presnell, Piney Flats, Tenn., and Linny Presnell, Mountain Home, Tenn.; half sisters Lou Martin, Hendersonville, and Sarah Guerrino, Catharpin, Va.; 19 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Hampton Funeral Home Chapel, Boone, conducted by the Rev. Gordon Noble. Burial, Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens, Boone.
Visitation: 7-8: 30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home in Boone. The rest of the time, the family will be at the home of son Gilbert Presnell, 125 Apple Road, Boone.
Sana Betty Tyson Hall
Sana Betty Tyson Hall, 55, Columbus, Ohio, died Friday (Aug. 20, 1999) at Grant Hospital.
Born July 19, 1944, in Salisbury, Mrs. Hall was a daughter of the late Fannie Staton. Retired, she was a bus driver for Franklin County Department of Mental Retardation in Ohio. She was a member of Northside Church of God, Columbus, Ohio, where she founded the Northside Church Nurses Guild. She also served on the Pastor’s Anniversary committee and was a member of the Ensemble.
Survivors include husband Arthur David Hall; children Michael Tyson, Marlo “Tyrone” Godfrey and Mark Tyson; brothers William Lewis and Milton Tyson, both of Winson-Salem; and five grandchildren.
Services were held Aug. 25 at Northside Church of God in Columbus, Ohio. The Rev. L’Tanya Lemon officiated. Burial was at Glen Rest Memorial Estate, Reynoldsburg, Ohio.

Keith Neal Rose
Keith Neal Rose, 36, formerly of Charlotte, died Monday (Aug. 30, 1999) at Valdese.
Born Jan. 2, 1963, in Charlotte, Mr. Rose was a son of Iris Rose-Hicks and the stepson of Richard D. Hicks of Granite Quarry. His father, Samuel L. Rose, preceded him in death.
Survivors, in addition to his mother and stepfather, include brothers Barry Eugene Rose, Mount Holly, Samuel Todd Rose, Charlotte, and Mark A. Rose, Rockwell.
Services: Memorial, 3 p.m. Friday, Western Carolina Center, Charlotte. Burial, 1 p.m. Thursday, National Cemetery, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. William Robertson.
Visitation: 7-9 tonight, McEwen Funeral Home Charlotte Chapel, Moorehead Street, Charlotte. Prior to the memorial service, the family will be at the home of brother and sister-in-law Barry and Susan Rose, Mount Holly.
Glenn H. Lefler
MICHIE, Tenn. — Glenn H. Lefler, 75, Michie, father of Glenda Kluttz of Salisbury, died Monday (Aug. 30, 1999) at Methodist Healthcare in McNairy County.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Landmark Pentecostal Church. Burial, National Cemetery, Shiloh.

Harold B. Poole
Harold Benjamin Poole Sr., 85, died Tuesday (Aug. 31, 1999) at Autumn Care of Salisbury.
Born Oct. 15, 1913, in Greenville, S.C., he was a son of the late Erastus and Alice Mae Scott and Erastus Poole. He was educated in the Spencer schools. Employed by Southern Railway until 1958, he was later employed by the U.S. Postal Service at the Biscayne Annex Post Office in Miami, Fla., until his retirement in 1973.
A U.S. Army veteran of 1931 to 1934, he served with the U.S. Marines during World War II and saw action at Okinawa and the Kyukyu Islands. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the American Legion Post, both in Arcadia, Fla.
Survivors include wife Virginia Swink Poole, whom he married Oct. 15, 1934; and son Harold B. Poole Jr., Salisbury.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Summersett Memorial Chapel of Summersett Funeral Home, conducted by Dr. Larry E. Summey, pastor, Franklin Presbyterian Church. Burial, Salisbury National Cemetery; graveside rites by Rowan County Veterans Council.

Essie Lee Rice Barton
EAST SPENCER — The funeral will be Saturday for Essie Lee Rice Barton, 79, formerly of East Winds Apartments, who died Thursday (Sept. 2, 1999) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation, Salisbury, after five years of declining health and several weeks of serious illness.
Born June 7, 1920, in Seneca, S.C., Mrs. Barton was a daughter of the late Andrew and Orena Hicks Rice. Educated in the Seneca public schools, she had retired from Salisbury Manufacturing Co. She was a member of East Winds Senior Citizens and New Hope AME Zion Church, where she served on the Usher Board, the Lay Council and the Deaconess Board.
Survivors include sons Ernest O. Rice, Jamaica, N.Y., and Charles R. Barton, Greenville, S.C.; daughter Ruby B. Holt, Salisbury; sisters Eloise R. Kirksey, Bloomfield, Conn., and Annie L. Rosemond, Pickens, S.C.; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, New Hope AME Zion Church, conducted by the Rev. Retoy Gaston. Burial, church cemetery.
Visitation: 1: 30 p.m. Saturday at the church.
