GASTONIA -- Imogene Reba Moore, 78, of 416 N. Highland Street, died May 22, 2001 at Rehabilitation & Health Center of Gastonia.
Graveside Service is 3 p.m. today at Gaston Memorial Park, with Rev. Jerry Millwood officiating.
Born September 30, 1922 in Polk County, TN, Mrs. Moore was the daughter of the late Fred & Cordie Plemmons Frase and the wife of the late Vernon Moore. She attended Ranlo Church of God.
Surviving are her daughter, Faye Mathis of Las Vegas, NV; brothers, Joe Frase of LaPlace, LA, John Frase of Columbia, SC; sisters, Geraldine Burchfield of Stanley, NC, Irene Shaw of Benton, TN, Maxine Broussard of Kenner, LA, and Rosine Kilpatrick of Shelby, NC.

Hileman, J. W.
GASTONIA -- Mr. J. W. Hileman, 84, of 409 Elizabeth Street, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001 at Courtland Terrace Nursing Home.
Mr. Hileman was a native of Hardin, MO, son of the late Samuel Martin and Pearl Parvin Mayden Hileman. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, a former member of the Elks Club, and was a retired salesman with Twin States Distributing Company.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Dinwiddle Hileman of the home; son and daughter-in-law Guy and Judi Hileman of Gastonia; daughter and son-in-law Sarah H. and David Wentz of Gastonia; brother Samuel Martin Hileman, Jr. of Kansas City, MO; two sisters, Virginia H. Armstrong and Rhoda H. Miller, both of Kansas City, MO; as well as three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11 AM Friday, May 25, at Gaston Memorial Park, with Reverend David Stocker and Reverend Patrick Perryman officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at McLean Funeral Directors.

Hoke, Clara Mae Cochrane
Clara Mae Cochrane Hoke, 73, of Charlotte, died May 21, 2001 after a brief illness.
funeral service is 2 pm Thursday, May 24 at the Catawba Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Earl Pennell of Woodlawn Baptist Church of Charlotte officiating. Interment will be in Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory. Serving as pallbearer will be Michael Scott McKnight and Kevin Brent McKnight. The family will receive friends from 7-9 pm this evening, May 23, at Catawba Funeral Home of Hickory.
Born in Morganton, NC on March 25, 1928, Clara was a daughter of the late Glenn Winston Cochrane and the late Maude Cochrane McCree. She had retired from her position as personnel manager with K-Mart, and was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Charlotte.
Survivors include two daughters, Tamara Beaver of Midland, and Kathy McKnight of Mooresville; one son, Jennings Hoke of Lancaster, SC; one brother, Gene Cochrane of Newton; and five grandchildren, Michael Scott McKnight of Mooresville, Kevin Brent McKnight of Kernersville, Brian Matthew McKnight of Mooresville, Scott Edward Hoke of Denver, and Kimberly Nichole Beaver of Midland.

CLOVER -- Mr. John Grady Douglas, 86, of 12391 West Hwy. 55, died May 23, 2001 at his home.

Mr. Douglas was a native of York County, SC, born June 13, 1914, a son of the late Charles Thomas Douglas and the late Margaret Elizabeth Baker Douglas. He was retired from American Thread Company, and was a lifelong member of Bethany ARP Church of Clover.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mae Whisenant Douglas, of the home; his daughter and son-in-law Lou Ellen D. and Leslie Stewart of Clover; two grandsons, Dr. Leslie D. Stewart and his wife Genie, of Florence, SC, and L. Kevin Stewart and his wife Gale, of Clover; four great grandchildren, Hillary and Jessica Stewart of Clover, and Jamie and Timmy Stewart of Florence; and his brother and sister-in-law, Marshall and Dollie Douglas, of Clover.

Wright, Kelly `Pop` William
GASTONIA -- Mr. Kelly `Pop` William Wright, Jr., 76, of 1853 Hilltop Circle, died May 20, 2001 at his home.
Funeral is 3 pm today at Springwood Freewill Baptist Church of Belmont, with Reverend Ron Grant and Reverend Roger Franklin officiating. Interment will be in Gaston Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Jody Aim, Charles Earley, Carl Hartman, Robbie Huss, Donald Watts, Jr. and Wayne Wright. The family received friends Tuesday evening at Greene Funeral Home, and will receive friends at other times at the home.
Mr. Wright was born July 17, 1924, a native of Gaston County. He had retired as a textile worker from American Efird Mill, and served in the Philippine Islands with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Wright was a member of Springwood Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kelly William Wright, Sr. and Virginia Smith Wright; a brother, Frank Smith; a sister, Mary Bowden; and a son-in-law, Don Watts.
Mr. Wright is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margaret Franklin Wright, of the home; sons and daughter-in-law Glenn and Laura Wright of Gastonia, and Ricky Wright of the home; daughter Brenda W. Watts of Gastonia; sister Martha Braswell of McAdenville; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Lucille and Carl Hartman, and Linda and Alfred Epperson; grandchildren Wayne Wright, Nicole Alm, Don Watts, Jr. and Felicia Taylor; great grandchildren Garret and Gracie Wright, and Randy D. Taylor; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Brand, Walter A.
Mr. Walter A. Brand, III, 53, of Charlotte, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at his home, after a long courageous battle with brain tumors.
Walt, born in Auburn, AL in 1947, will be remembered as a loving father and husband with a wide range of interest and abilities. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a BS in Chemical Engineering in 1969 and received his MBA from UNCC in 1980. Walt served for three years in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War Era. In 1992, he retired from BASF where he had been Production Manager.
Walt was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Charlotte, where he was in his fourth year of the Education For Ministry program. Walt was formerly a member of St. Peter-by-the-Lake Episcopal Church, Denver, NC, where he had served on the vestry.
Walt had a love of knowledge, always attempting to better himself through learning and community involvement. He enjoyed building and programming computers, as well as working on cars. He had associate degrees in both Auto Mechanics and Computer Science. For a number of years, Walt sang with the Carolina Chords Barbershop Quartet Chorus. Walt had reached the level of third degree black belt in American Karate. He was also a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the Phi Theta Kappa Fraternity. For the last several years, Walt spent much of his time doing volunteer electrical work for Habitat For Humanity where he was recognized as Volunteer of the Year for Cabarrus County in 1998.
Walter is survived by his wife, Sandy Brand; son, Brian Brand of Charlotte; two daughters, Kristin Mulkey of Mooresville, Gwen Sanford of Charlotte; and two grandchildren, Ian Mulkey and Elizabeth Sanford. He is also survived by his parents, Gloria Brand and Walter A. Brand, Jr., and a sister, Cynthia Lorek, all of Goodview, Va.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 25, 2001 in the memorial gardens at St. John's Episcopal Church, Charlotte. Rev. Marty McCarthy will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.

Mr. Mackey was a native of Rock Hill, SC, and of the Baptist Faith. He owned and operated Mackey's Body Shop for 32 years, and was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of the American Legion Frank Post.
Mr. Mackey is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George P. and Irene Mackey; his son, B. J. Mackey of Rock Hill; his brother, Randy Mackey of Sylva, NC; and his two sisters, Doris Mackey of Sylva, NC and Carolyn Mackey Sheets of Clover, SC.
