Carolyn Conrad
OAKBORO -- Carolyn Conrad went home to be with her Lord on May 21, 2001.
Born in Charlotte in 1951, she graduated from West Mecklenburg High School and later from Presbyterian Nursing School, where she had begun doing volunteer work as a Candy Striper at 13. With the birth of her first child she laid aside her nursing career for the cherished calling as a mother to eight wonderful children. She was the 'heart' of her home and will be greatly missed. Carolyn and her husband were very active in the early days of the home schooling movement, and were charter members of NCHE and local support group leaders for seven years. As a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, she loved all children. Carolyn volunteered at the Charlotte Pregnancy Care Center and later supported the Pregnancy Resource Center of Stanly County. During her illness, she ministered to others who were suffering with cancer and had a desire to introduce them to her Saviour and the hope that He extends to all. The Lord Jesus became very precious to her in her last months along with His word and promises. Philippians 4:13, `I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me` was especially meaningful and He never failed her.
Carolyn is survived by her husband Bob and their children, Shannon, Timothy, Christa, Kathlyn and Karyn, Michelle and Bethany of Oakboro. Her son Shawn and his wife reside in Albemarle with the only grandchild, Erik. Parents Jim and Christine Knuckles are in Matthews and her brother David and his family live in Charlotte.
Memorials in her name may be sent to Pregnancy Resource Center of Stanly County, 124 East North Street, Albemarle, NC 28001, or to BBN Radio, PO Box 7300, Charlotte, NC 28241-7300. A memorial for her will be held at Garr Memorial Church, 7700 Wallace Road in Charlotte on Thursday, May 24, at 3 pm. To God be the glory!
