McClure, W. Parks

Mr. W. Parks McClure, 73, of Newland, NC, formerly of Lake Norman, died Monday, May 21, 2001 in Boone. Born April 15, 1928 in Mecklenburg County, he was son of the late Robert Leonard McClure and Anna Carr McClure. Mr. McClure attended Aaron Baptist Church Montezuma and was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and Mt. Memorial Bible Study Group. He was a graduate of Central High School Class of 1946, attended USC at Columbia, SC, a Korean War Veteran, and employed with D & C Appliance Company for 25 years.

Surviving is his wife, Anne Johnson McClure; son, David Leonard McClure of Taylors, SC; daughter, Renee McClure Jackson of Lansing, NC; brother, Kermit McCLure of Charlotte; and five grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, May 24, 2001 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with Dr. Terry Matthews, Rev. Ned Owens, and Rev. Ken Chester officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service.

Rankin, Margaret Lineberger

LINCOLNTON -- Mrs. Margaret Lineberger Rankin, 75, of 124 Bonview Avenue, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at the Brian Center.

A memorial graveside service will be held at 11 AM Friday at Hollybrook Cemetery, with Reverend Carrol Lindsay and Reverend Harold Leatherman officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, 207 Labans Lane in Lincolnton. Mrs. Rankin was born on December 10, 1925 in Lincoln county. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kim and Brema Sharpe Lineberger and husband William Benjamin Rankin. She was a retired school teacher with Lincoln County Schools, a graduate of Appalachian State Teachers College, a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was a former choir member, and Treasurer of Rankin's Jewelers, Inc.

Survivors include one son, Bob Rankin and daughter-in-law Mary Anna of Lincolnton, and her beloved dog, Shadow.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 201 E. Main Street, Lincolnton, NC 28092.

Moore, Alta Sullivan

MORGANTON -- Alta Sullivan Moore, 74, of Hillside Lane, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at Grace Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Born July 2, 1926 in Travis County, TX, she was a daughter of the late William H. Sullivan and Alma Daniels Sullivan. She was a graduate of the University of Texas in Austin, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Morganton.

She is survived by her husband, A. Grier Moore, Jr. of the home; a sister, Doris Sullivan of Apache Junction, AZ; a brother-in-law and his wife, John and Jane Moore of Charlotte; and nieces Grier Elizabeth Howell and Sadie Andress.

Graveside services will be held at 2 PM Friday, May 25, 2001 at Forest Hill Cemetery, with Reverend Bob Roach officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7-8:30 PM at Sossoman Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, or to the Discretionary Fund, 200 N. King Street, Morganton, NC 28655.

Bell, Will Morris

LINCOLNTON -- Mr. Will Morris Bell, Sr., 84, formerly of Echol Lane, Gastonia, died May 23, 2001 at Lincoln Medical Center. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Carothers Funeral Home, Gastonia.

Stroud, Curvin Paul

HARMONY -- Mr. Curvin Paul Stroud, 68, of 340 Kinder Road died May 22, 2001. Funeral is 6 p.m. Friday at Reavis Funeral Home of Harmony Chapel. Visitation immediately following the service.

Garris, Douglas Allen

GASTONIA -- Mr. Douglas Allen Garris, 28, of 1811 Union Road, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at Carolina Medical Center.

funeral service is 8 PM tonight, May 24, at Greene funeral service Southside Chapel, with the family receiving friends beginning at 6 PM prior to the service. Interment will be in Live Oak Cemetery in Walterboro.

Mr. Garris was a native of Colleton County, SC, born January 17, 1973. He was employed by Penhall Concrete of Charlotte.

Survivors include his wife, Anastasia Hoke Garris, of the home; his son and daughter, Ethan Alexander Garris and Chloe Delaney Garris, both of the home; his parents, Kenneth and Ellen Garris of Walterboro, SC; his mother, Faye Franklin Prezeracki of Myrtle Beach, SC; his brothers Chris Saunders and Ken Garris, both of Walterboro; and his sister, Tina Worley of Smokes, SC.

Greene Funeral Home Southside Chapel is serving the family of Mr. Garris.

Sweatt, Caldwell

LANCASTER -- Mr. Caldwell Sweatt, 69, of 971 15th Street, died at his home Saturday, May 19, 2001.

Born in Lancaster County, he was the son of the late Arthur, Sr. and Mamie Tolbert Sweatt. Mr. Sweatt was a former employee of J. E. Ghent Construction Company. He is survived by a brother, Arthur Sweatt, Jr. and a sister, Ms. Marie Sweatt, both of Lancaster.

Memorial services will be conducted at 2 pm Wednesday, May 23, at New Cut Presbyterian Church by the Reverend Wayne Dickson. The family received friends at Mahaffey Funeral Home Tuesday evening.

Mr. Ralph McKenzie Winecoff

SALISBURY -- Mr. Ralph McKenzie Winecoff, 76, died May 23, 2001 at Autumn Care of Salisbury. Funeral is 2 p.m. Friday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Visitation is 7-8:30 p.m. today at Lyerly Funeral Home.

Stowe, Elizabeth Wilson

CLOVER -- Mrs. Elizabeth Wilson Stowe, 87, died Monday, May 21, 2001 at her residence.

Mrs. Stowe was a Native of Gaston County, the daughter of the late Robert Hope and Carrie Craig Wilson, sister of the late Nelie W. Newell, Member of Clover ARP Church and former member of Union Rd. Presbyterian Church, attended Gastonia City Schools and was a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, retired member of the Alabama Educators Association and National Teacher Association, Volunteer for Lauback Literacy Council and the Clover Woman's Club.

Survivors include her husband of 62 yrs, Miller D. Stowe of the home; daughter, Brenda S. Argo of Baton Rouge, LA; son, Robert M. Stowe of Birmingham, Ala.; grandchildren, Andrew Miller Anela of Montgomery, Al. and Jason and Brandon Stowe of Birmingham, Ala.; great-grandchildren, Anya Grace Anela of Montgomery, Ala, and Hunter Stowe of Birmingham, Ala.; sister, Anne W. Maires of Gastonia; brother-in-law, Thomas Stowe of Gastonia; sister-in-law, June Stowe McMackin of Clover, SC

A 11:00 A.M. service will be held Friday, May 25, 2001 at Clover ARP Church. The Rev. Rob Patrick and Rev. Timothy Martin officiating. A Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the Fellowship Hall of the Church.

Burial will be held at Union Rd. Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Gastonia.

Stroup, Helen `Bea` Fitzpatrick

Mrs. Helen `Bea` Fitzpatrick Stroup, 82, of Huntersville, NC, formerly of both Harrisburg and Williamsport, died Sunday, May 20, 2001 at Huntersville Oaks. She was born November 6, 1918 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Harry and Cecelia Dorsey Fitzpatrick.

Surviving are daughters, Barbara Marsh of Huntersville, NC, Sister Mary Reginald of Newfield, NJ and Jane Read of Harrisburg, PA; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husban, Dr. Reginald Stroup.

Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2001 at St. Catherine Laboure in Harrisburg, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Daughters of Our Lady of Mercy Villa Rossello, 1009 Main Road, Newfield, NJ 08344.

Gilbert, Michael J.

Michael J. Gilbert, 61, of Huntersville, NC, died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, May 21, 2001 at his home.

A Memorial Mass to celebrate his life will be held at 7:00 PM Friday, May 25, 2001 at St. Mark's Catholic Church, 1470 Stumptown Road in Huntersville, NC. The family will be available to receive friends immediately following the service.

Mr. Gilbert was born in Lewiston, ME to the late Ralph and Simone Gilbert. Mike graduated from Nasson College in Springvale, ME, and served his country as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force and was employed by First Union Bank for 25 years.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Roseanne; son, Paul of Jacksonville, Fl; and a daughter, Allison of Myrtle Beach, SC; sisters, Suzanne Corcoran of North Andover, MA, and Monique Harrison of Manchester, NH; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Charlotte, 420 East Seventh Street, Charlotte, NC 28204, or send flowers to someone you love.

Greenway, Raymond Odell

LORIS -- Mr. Raymond Odell Greenway, 71, 3239 Cherry Hill Road, died May 21, 2001 at his residence.

Mr. Greenway was a native of Gaston County, the son of the late William T. and Willie Mae Isenhour Greenway. He was part owner and operator of S & G Supply, Gastonia. Mr. Greenway was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by is son, Raymond Edward Greenway.

Mr. Greenway is survived by his wife of 39 years, Pauline Hanee Greenway, of the home; sister, Faye Peeler of Gastonia; brothers James William Greenway of Fairhaven, MA and Robert Edward Greenway of Gastonia; and granddaughter, Jessica Alexander of Long Beach, CA.

Graveside services will be held at 3 pm on Thursday, May 24, at Gaston Memorial Park, officiated by Reverend Bruce Pittman. The family will received friends at Carothers Funeral Home, Gastonia, Wednesday evening.

Hargett, William Anderson `Bill`

ROCK HILL -- Mr. William Anderson `Bill` Hargett, Sr., 51, of 238 Meridian Drive, died Monday, May 21, 2001 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

funeral service is 4 pm Thursday, May 24, at New Vision Freewill Baptist Church, with Reverend Daggett Duncan officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 pm this evening at Greene Funeral Home Downtown Chapel, and other times at the residence, 238 Meridan Drive, Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Mr. Hargett was a retiree of Foster Utilities in Pineville, NC, a U.S. Army veteran and a member of New Vision Freewill Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, on the building and grounds committee, and the cemetery committee.

Surviving are his wife, Janice Cook Hargett of the home; three sons, Kenny Hargett of the home, William Anderson Hargett, Jr. of Bishopville, SC and David C. Hargett of Columbia, SC; two daughters, Nikki Hargett of the home and Missy H. Glover of Woodruff, SC; his father, McNeal Hargett of Union Mills, NC; his mother, Mary Fields of Rock Hill; two sisters, Mary Ellen Ross of Charlotte, NC and Shirley Whiting of Rock Hill, SC; as well as four grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to New Vision Freewill Baptist Helping Hand Fund, 630 Ole Simpson Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Lewis, Margaret G.

Margaret G. Lewis, 72, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at Presbyterian Hospital.

funeral service for Mrs. Lewis will be held from the graveside today, Thursday, May 24 at 1 PM in Forest Lawn West Cemetery, with the Reverend DeWayne Evans, Sr. officiating. Margaret was born in Charlotte on September 30, 1928, daughter of the late John Taylor Gilbert and Cordia Lambert Gilbert. Mrs. Lewis spent her life caring for the sick and elderly. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, John H. Lewis, Sr., of the home; two sons, Eddie Dean Lewis, Sr. of Florence, SC and Donnie Edward McGuinn of Holden Beach, NC; two brothers, Robert James Gilbert and Charles Ray Gilbert, both of Charlotte; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Harris Hospice, c/o Presbyterian Hospital, PO Box 33549, Charlotte, NC 28233.

Arrangements are in the care of Hankins and Whittington Dilworth Chapel, 1111 East Boulevard.
