James Cornelius Rabon
GASTONIA -- Mr. James Cornelius Rabon `J.C.`, 79, of 1408 Congress Street, died Thursday, May 3, 2001 at Rehabilitation and Health Center. A native of Gaston County, he was the son of the late Herberet Cornelius and Mamie Cashion Rabon.
Survivors include three sisters and brother-in-law, Louise Caldwell, Ramona Moore, and Myrtle and husband, Billy Ray Broyles, all of Gastonia.
Funeral arrangements will be held at a later date. Family will receive friends Saturday at 7 P.M., May 5, 2001, at the home of Myrtle and Billy Ray Broyles, 1408 Congress Street.

Hensley, Juanita Bennett
Juanita Bennett Hensley, 66, formerly of Charlotte, died Thursday, May 3, 2001 in Hopewell, Virginia. She attended Derita High School prior to moving to Virginia. She is preceded in death by her parents, James W. Bennett and Lucy Mae Thomas Bennett, as well as her sister, Louise Bennett McClure.
Survivors include her husband, Ray C. Hensley of Hopewell; children, Katrina Flores and Renee Sisson, both of Hopewell; 5 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews in N.C.; and her sister, Bernice Bennett Dagenhart of Charlotte.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Westend Christian School in Hopewell, Virginia.

Sharpe, Janie Mae Dagenhart
STATESVILLE -- Mrs. Janie Mae Dagenhart Sharpe, 97, died May 4, 2001. Funeral is 3 pm Sunday at Bethel United Methodist Church, interment in church cemetery. Visitation is 7-8:30 pm tonight at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home of Statesville.
Cagle, Talton Eugene
SEAGROVE -- Mr. Talton Eugene Cagle, 68, died May 3, 2001. Funeral is 4 p.m. Sunday at Union Grove Baptist Church. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. today at Ridge Funeral Home.
Bradshaw, William Alexander (Bill)
NEWTON -- William Alexander (Bill) Bradshaw, 75, of 2137 Settlemyre Bridge Road, died Friday, May 4, 2001 at home.
He was born July 3, 1925 in Lincolnton, N.C. to the late Alexander and Minnie Iola Settlemyre Bradshaw. They moved to Catawba County, July 20, 1925.
Mr. Bradshaw was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Hunt Bradshaw, an infant son, William Allen Bradshaw, two half-brothers, Carl E. Marlowe, Sr. and Thomas Bradshaw, and one half-sister, Mrs. Florence Bradshaw Weaver.
He is survived by his wife, Jo Hollar Bradshaw. Also surviving are four children, Ms. Brenda Bradshaw of Statesville, Mrs. Stephen (Dianne) Hefner and Mrs. Clinton (Teresa) Laffon, all of Newton, and Brian (Leann Bradshaw of Conover; and grandchildren, Drew and Leah Hefner, Christy, Callie, Chase, and Cadyn Laffon, and Faith Bradshaw. Mr. Bradshaw is also survived by four step-children, Mrs. Colon (Pam) Fulk of Denver, Ms. Kim Settlemyre of Mebane, Mrs. Todd (Jayme) Dodge of Linden, VA and Mae Settlemyre of Newton; nine step-grandchildren, three step-great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bradshaw attended Startown Consolidated School, UNC, Lenoir Rhyne College, and Clevenger College of Business. Following tours of duty with the Army Air Corps and the United States Air Force, Mr. Bradshaw worked with Citizens Building and Loan Assoc., which later became Citizens Savings Bank and BB & T, serving in positions of Secretary, Treasurer, and later Senior Vice-President before retiring April 30, 1993.
During his tenure with the bank, Mr. Bradshaw was honored to serve as Governor of the Savings Institute of North Carolina, President of the Hickory Chapter of the American Savings and Loan Institute, and Chairman of the Junior Conference of the North Carolina Savings Institutions League.
For the past eight years, Mr. Bradshaw served on the Board of Trustees of Lutheran Services for the Aging, including being Chairman of the Board for three years. He also served as a member of the Board of Directors of seven subsidiary corporations.
Mr. Bradshaw proudly served his country on active duty or in the Ready Reserve of the United States Air Force for forty-two years and seven months, retiring in 1985 with the permanent rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
As a member of Old St. Paul's Lutheran Church since his teens, Mr. Bradshaw served in various capacities, including Sunday School teacher and Chairman of the Congregation. Mr. Bradshaw also served three, non-consecutive, four-year terms on the Catawba County Board of Education.
The family will receive friends at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home in Newton from 6:30 PM until 8:30 PM, Sunday, May 6, 2001.
Funeral services will be conducted at Old St. Paul's Lutheran Church, located at 2035 Old Conover-Startown Hwy, Newton on Monday, May 7, at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will include Drew Hefner, Larry Smyre, Carl E. Marlowe, Jr., and Chad, Chance, and Chase Fulk. The Rev. Dave Ridenhour will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Lutheran Services for the Aging, P.O. Box 947, Salisbury, NC 28145 or Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658, or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Culp, Ned Oren
CAYCE -- Mr. Ned Oren Culp, 71, died Thursday, May 3, 2001.
Services will be held at 11 am Saturday in State Street Baptist church, conducted by Dr. Pete Cassidy, with entombment at Southland Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Memorials may be made to State Street Baptist Church, 1420 State Street, Cayce, SC, or to St. Joseph Indian School in Montana. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the ABC Sunday School Class.
Mr. Culp, the widower of Hazel Annette Culp, was born in Charlotte, NC. He was a son of the late Fletcher and Tishie Estridge Culp. Formerly of Gaffney and Charlotte, he had been a resident of Cayce, SC for 30 years. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, and served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Culp was a very active member of State Street Baptist Church and the ABC Sunday School Class. Mr. Culp was retired from Goodyear after 35 years. He was a 1957 graduate of the Citadel and was a Mason.
Surviving are his son, Chris Culp of West Columbia; his sisters, Doris Abernathy of Charlotte and Nancy McCall of Spruce Pines, NC; and his granddaughter, Amy Morris of Gaffney.

Douglas, Sandra LeeAnn Elizabeth
KINGS MOUNTAIN -- Sandra LeeAnn Elizabeth Douglas, infant daughter of Gregory Douglas and Crystal Williams of 209 Blanton Street, died Friday, May 4, 2001 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby.
She was preceded in death by a paternal grandmother, Sandra Edmonds, and a paternal great-grandfather, Carl Castle.
Surviving with her parents, are two brothers, Gregory James and Jeffrey Douglas, both of the home; one sister, Heather Douglas of the home; paternal grandfather, Tommy Douglas of Kings Port, TN; maternal grandparents, Jerome and Judith Williams of Kings Mountain; paternal great-grandmother, Zella Castle of Newport Richey, FL; maternal great-grandparents, Thelma and Ulysses Williams of Bessemer City and Audrey Addis of Shelby; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A graveside service will be held Monday, May 7, 2001 at 3:00 PM in Babyland at Gaston Memorial Park with Rev. Robert Eng officiating.

Smith, Robin Lynn `Robbie`
GASTONIA -- Robin Lynn `Robbie` Smith, 30, of 104 Pauline Lane, died Sunday, May 13, 2001. A native of Gaton County, he was the son of David Coleman Smith, Sr. and Gloria Saunders Smith of Lowell. He was a mechanic with Jordan Acoustical Construction and a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Gastonia. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his grandparents, Hokum and Mary Ruth Smith, and Mary Louise and Lester Archie Saunders.
Surviving with his parents, are one son, Austin Tyler Smith of Mt. Holly; one daughter, Nina Smith of Gastonia; brother and sister-in-law, David, Jr. and Jill Smith of Stanley; sister, Lisa Smith of Charlotte; half brother, John Michael Finger of Denver; nephews, Scotty and Joshua McCurry, both of Crouse, Travis Stroupe of Mt. Holly, and Bryan Thomas of Charlotte; niece, Amber McCurry of Crouse; uncles, aunts, cousins and a great aunt.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 3pm at Armstrong Cemetery with Rev. Kenneth Lane and Rev. Elvis Anderson officiating. Pallbearers will be Steve Akers, Travis Stroupe, Wendell Pressley, Scottie Hawkins, Scott McCurry and Ed Hallman. Visitation will be from 7-9pm Tuesday at Carothers Funeral Home in Gastonia.

Hardin, Flora Belle Ellis
GASTONIA -- Mrs. Flora Belle Ellis Hardin, 90, of 2236 Lowell-Bethesda Road, died May 5, 2001 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
A native of Andrews, she was the widow of the Roy Fredrick Hardin, Sr. and daughter of the late William Bill and Callie Truett Ellis. She was a textile employee, homemaker and a member of Beech Avenue Baptist Church. Mrs. Hardin was preceded in death by a son, Bill Hardin, two brothers and four sisters.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law Roy Fredrick Hardin, Jr. and Linda of Bessemer City, two daughters Dorothy Sanders and Betty Sue Owens both of Gastonia, eleven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Monday at Carothers Funeral Home in Gastonia.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the Colonial Chapel of Carothers Funeral Home in Gastonia with the Rev. Blaine Phelps officiating. Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Joe Robinson,Tony, Danny, Lanny and Geoffrey Owens and Billy Neal. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Owens and Michael Beaty.

MARSHVILLE -- Elease P. Fowler, 69, died May 5, 2001. Funeral will be 4 p.m. Monday at Salem Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Fowler was a seamstress, a homemaker and an avid gardener. She was the daughter of the late William T. & Jennie Watts Phillips.
Survivors are husband, William H. `Bill' Fowler of the home; sons, William Robert Fowler of Monroe, NC and Jeffery L. Howard of Pageland, SC; daughters, Phyllis Gail Estep of Arlington, TX and Janet P. Thomas of Marshville, NC; sisters, Ella P. Johnson of Pageland, SC, Margaret McMillan of Jefferson, SC and Emma Nicholson of Mt. Croghan, SC; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Folwer was preceded in death by 6 brothers, Emsy, Sammy, Erskine, Hayward, Carroll, and Bobby Phillips, and 2 sisters, Beatrice Mills and Geneva Chaplin.

Kirk, Robert W.
Robert W. Kirk, Sr., 80, of Charlotte died Saturday, May 5, 2001 at Presbyterian Hospital. A service to celebrate his life will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2001 from the graveside at Forest Lawn East Cemetery. The family will receive friend sat the cemetery following the service.
Born October 6, 1921 in Aurora Illinois, Mr. Kirk was a son of the late William Fredrick Kirk and Eleanor Seidelman Kirk. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in the South pacific during WWII. He retired in 1981 as a district sales manager for CSX. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Mr. Kirk is survived by his wife Dell Kirk, two children; Betty Derrick of Las Vegas and Bob Kirk, Jr. of Charlotte. Two grandchildren, Robbie Kirk and Laura Kirk, one sister, Betty Mae Kahle of Aurora, Illinois and a brother Wayne Kirk of Rochester, Michigan also survive him.
