McClure, Robert `Bob` Lee

GASTONIA -- Mr. Robert `Bob` Lee McClure, 59, of 1840 Gaston Day School Road, died May 8, 2001 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

funeral service is 3 pm Friday at Sandy Plains Baptist church, with Reverend Richard Brown officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Belmont. Acting as pallbearers will be B. J. Dunham, David Jackson, Flay Washburn, Mark Withers, Ralph Withers and Chris Yarborough. The family will receive friends from 7-9 pm this evening, May 10, at the church.

Born in Buncombe County on April 17, 1942, Mr. McClure was the part owner and operator of Diversified Textile Machinery. He was preceded in death by is mother, Delma Mashburn McClure, and one brother, William McClure.

Mr. McClure is survived by his wife, Jerry Smith McClure, of the home; sons Kevin McClure and his wife Yolanda of Gastonia, and Michael Willis of Asheville; two daughters, Christy McClure of Monroe, and Teresa Willis of Asheville; one brother, Oscar Hill McClure of Gastonia; one sister, Rilla McClure of Gastonia, and two grandchildren, Brandon Yoder and Jesse McClure.

Greene Funeral Home Southside Chapel of Gastonia is in charge of arrangements.

Stroupe, Ronnie Dwayne

BELMONT -- Mr. Ronnie Dwayne Stroupe, 31, of Holy Angels, died May 13, 2001 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Carothers Funeral Home, Gastonia.

Haney, Charles Michael

GASTONIA -- Mr. Charles Michael Haney, 34, died May 7, 2001. Graveside service is 2 p.m. Friday at Gaston Memorial Park. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. today at Woodlawn Funeral Home.

DeLapp, Hazel D.

REIDSVILLE -- Hazel D. DeLapp of Transitional Health Services of Kannapolis, N.C., died Wednesday, May 9, at Northeast Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, May 11, 2001 at Wilkerson Funeral Home, 1909 Richardson Drive. Interment will follow in Reidlawn Cemetery.

Mrs. DeLapp was born in Lynchburg, Va. to the late David Driscoll and Bessie Laster Driscoll. She was a housewife and was retired from American Tobacco Company. She was a member of Baptist Temple Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Odell DeLapp and brothers, David Driscoll, Jr. and John Driscoll.

She is survived by her son, William DeLapp and wife, Sarah of Concord, N.C.; granddaughter, Andrea DeLapp Wisekal and husband, Charles of Alabama; grandson, Sean P. DeLapp and wife, Kari of Charlotte; and great granddaughter, Hannah Kate Wisekal.

The family will receive friends at the new Wilkerson Funeral Home, 1909 Richardson Drive, prior to the service from 12:00 - 1:45 PM.

Saine, Charles T.

STANLEY -- Mr. Charles T. Saine, 78, died Tuesday, May 8, 2001 at Huntersville Oaks Nursing Home. He was born August 2, 1922 in Rutherford County, son of the late Edward Saine and Florence Daniel Saine.

Charlie was one of eight brothers and sisters. He managed the Coffee Cup Restaurant in Charlotte for many years. He worked for Akers Motor Lines until they went out of business and for Contractors Service before retiring. Through the years, he carved out his own mountain of love and friends. His love of God, the scripture, and nature inspired him to tell his interpretation of the Bible through being able to tell stories with a simple piece of wood and a pocket knife. Charlie Saine was known to many of his friends as the `Wildlife Whittler.` The Raleigh Museum and Philadelphia Museum have two of his beautiful folk art canes on display. His works of art will serve as a testimonial for his life and strong belief in God. His family and friends feel blessed to have been a part of his wonderful life.

Surviving are his daughter and her husband, Charlene and Doug Carson of Charlotte; his brother, Ransom Saine of Rutherfordton; grandsons, Brian and Michael Saine; and 2 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11am Saturday, May 12, 2001 at McMahan's Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. John Perry Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Mt. View Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Friday at McMahan's Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. View Church, 430 US 221 Hwy. S., Rutherfordton, NC 28139, or Southern Baptist Church, 140 Church Street, Rutherfordton, NC 28139.

McMahan's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ludwig, Paul Wayne

LINWOOD -- Paul Wayne Ludwig, 62, died Tuesday, May 8, 2001. Funeral 2pm Friday, Smith Grove Baptist Church. Arrangements by Piedmont Funeral Home.

Michaels, John `Dan`

MORGANTON -- Mr. John `Dan` Michaels, 90, died Tuesday, May 8, 2001. Funeral 3pm Thursday, Kirksey Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 2pm at the funeral home; burial at Burke Memorial Park Cemetery.

Coe, William Franklin (Buck)

LEXINGTON -- Mr. William Franklin (Buck) Coe, Sr., 76, died May 8, 2001. Funeral is 4 pm Friday at the Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel. Piedmont Funeral Home of Lexington is in charge of arrangements.

Stowe, Louise Pigg

Mrs. Louise Pigg Stowe, 78, of Charlotte, died Saturday morning, May 5, 2001 at home. Funeral is 11:00 a.m. Monday at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Monday at Wilkinson Funeral Home and will be at 447 Keenan Drive, SE Concord the remaining time.

Born, July 30, 1922 in Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of the late Floyd Pigg and Della Aldridge Pigg McGee. She was retired from Union Carbide Corporation.

She is survived by her daughters Ramona F. Blackwelder and Judith F. Smith both of Concord, and a number of stepchildren; sisters, Rosa Camarda of Miami, FL and Micki Carter of Fort Lauderdale, FL; number of grandchildren, Deetra G. Ragan of Concord. She is also survived by a number of step grandchildren; great-grandchild, Dana Louise Ragan, and several step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Deanna Dover.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cabarrus County, PO Box 1235 Concord, NC 28026-1235.

Wilkinson Funeral Home is handling the arrangements of Mrs. Stowe.

William Digsby, 87, died May 4, 2001. Arrangements are incomplete at Beasley Funeral Home.

Lotz, John Calvin

CHAPEL HILL -- John Calvin Lotz of Chapel Hill went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 5, 2001. Most recently, Coach Lotz was assistant athletic director at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

He had served as assistant basketball coach at UNC-CH from 1965-1973 and was head basketball coach at the University of Florida from 1973-80. He was selected the Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes National Coach of the Year in 1977.

In April 1996, he was inducted into the Suffolk, Long Island, Sports Hall of Fame. He received the Governor's Award for Excellence in crime prevention in 1999 in recognition of his work with you in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro community.

Coach Lotz was a friend, mentor, teacher, coach, and encourager to many athletes and students at Carolina. He was will be remembered as a loyal friend, committed Christian, loving father and husband.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Vicki; daughters, Dr. Corri Lotz of Atlanta, GA and Laci Lotz of Chapel Hill; brothers, Dr. Daniel Lotz of Raleigh and Dr. Denton Lotz of Falls Church, VA; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. and Rms. John M. Lotz of Northport, NY and brother Samuel Lotz of Greensboro.

A memorial service is planned for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 8th at the University Baptist Church in Chapel Hill. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the John Lotz Scholarship Fund, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, 6339 Glenwood Avenue, Suite 451, Raleigh, NC 27612. Proceeds will be used to send young people of North Carolina to FCA summer camp. The family expresses deep appreciation to the staff of the Pavillion at Croasdaile Village for their special care, love and support.

Arrangements are with Walker' Funeral Home, Chapel Hill.

McDaniel, Nellie Amanda

SHELBY -- Nellie Amanda McDaniel, 92, died May 5, 2001. Funeral is 11 a.m. Monday at Drury Dobbins Baptist Church. Visitation is 6-7:30 p.m. Sunday at Lutz-Austell Funeral Home.

Walters, Mary McBrayer

HENDERSONVILLE -- Mary McBrayer Walters, of Hendersonville, NC, formerly of Charlotte, NC, died May 5, 2001.

A memorial service will be held at Myers Park United Methodist Church on Monday, May 7 at 4:00 p.m. with The Rev. Ron Robinson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.

Mrs. Walters was born November 3, 1915 in Shelby, NC, the daughter of Fay Young McBrayer and Logan Evans McBrayer. She spent most of her early life in Charlotte moving to Pittsburgh, PA in 1963 where she was in real estate sales before retiring with her husband to Hendersonville in 1980. Mrs. Walters was a member of the Old Kanuga Garden Club and Hendersonville Country Club. She was a member of St. John's in the Wilderness Episcopal Church.

Mrs. Walters is survived by her husband of 60 years Fred Walters, a daughter Fay Walters Grasty and husband Harvey; two sons, James Fredrick Walters, Jr. and wife Dollye of Charlotte, and Wesley Ellis Walters and wife, Sally of Columbia, SC, grandchildren include Harvey Moore Grasty, Jr. San Hose, CA, James Wesley Grasty, Charlotte, NC, Mary Katherine Kayler, Greensboro, NC, James Fredrick Walters, III and Emily Peay Walters, Charlotte, NC, Wesley McBrayer Walters and Stephen John Walters of Columbia, SC. Also surviving are two great grandchildren Benjamin Logan Grasty and Erin Lucille Grasty of San Jose, CA.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's in the Wilderness Episcopal Church, Hendersonville, NC.

RUTHERFORDTON -- Mrs. Lois Earley Wall, 65, died Saturday, May 5, 2001. Funeral is 2 p.m. Monday at Harrelson Funeral Home. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Harrelson Funeral Home.

Anthony, Ms. Betty

Ms. Betty Anthony, 65, died May 2, 2001. Funeral is noon Monday at Shiloh Institutional Baptist Church, interment in York Memorial Park. Visitation is one hour prior to service at the church. Grier Funeral Home of Charlotte is in charge.

McDaniel, Agnes Graham

SALISBURY -- Mrs. Agnes Graham McDaniel, 82, died May 4, 2001. Funeral is 2 p.m. Monday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Mt. Ulla. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Sunday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church.

Mustard, Catherine

SALISBURY -- Catherine Mustard, 77, died May 4, 2001. Visitation will be 11:30-12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lyerly Funeral Home. Arrangements are by the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home of Hagerstown, MD and Lyerly Funeral Home, Salisbury.

Lowder, John Albert

Rev. John Albert Lowder, 79, of Charlotte, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Presbyterian Hospital. Arrangements are pending and in the care of the Wilson Chapel of Hankins & Whittington funeral service.

Brickley, Lillian Varady

Lillian Varady Brickley, of 3600 Park Road, Charlotte, passed away on May 2, 2001 at the Harris Hospice Unit at Presbyterian Hospital. She was born on October 17, 1914 in East Chicago, Indiana, daughter of the late Daniel and Katie Laszlo Varady.

Following a private inurnment at the church columbarium, a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2001 at Myers Park Presbyterian Church, with the Reverend Dr. Raymond D. Scott officiating.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the narthex of the church.

Mrs. Brickley attended Brenau College in Gainesville, Georgia, and was a graduate of Bryant and Stratton College in Chicago. She lived in northwest Indiana until 1968, when she moved to Charlotte.

She had been employed at Belk Stores, Coplon's and general Business Services.

Lillian was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for over 60 years, and was Past Worth matron, Mizpah Chapter 36 in Charlotte. She was a member of Myers Park Presbyterian Church, and was volunteer for Presbyterian Hospital and the Republican Party. She was an avid bridge player, both contract and duplicate.

Her husband, Commander George R. Brickley, United States Navy, Retired, and two brothers, Joseph and Daniel Varady, preceded her in death. Her survivors include her daughters, Arlyn Sherwood and her husband, John, of Charlotte; Janey Morley of Charlottsville, Virginia; and her son, Arthur Czimer and his wife, Barbara, of Elgin, Illinois; four grandchildren, Kate Czimer and Brian Sherwood, both of Charlotte; Amy Czimer of Atlanta, Georgia and Joe Sherwood of Chicago, Illinois; two nieces, Joanne V. Robertson and her husband, David of Mishawaka, Indiana, and Marjorie V. Reavis and her husband, of Lake Forest, Illinois; numerous grandnieces and grandnephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice at Charlotte, 1420 East Seventh Street, Charlotte, NC 28204 or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Harry & Bryant Company is serving the family of Mrs. Brickley.
