Mrs. Rita Giglio, died April 30, 2001 at Hunter Woods in Charlotte.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1 pm Thursday at St. Matthew Catholic Church with Monsignor John J. McSweeney celebrant. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 9 pm at McEwen Pineville Chapel, with a rosary service at 7 pm.
Born in Bronx, NY she was a daughter of the late Dominic Del Monaco and Giovanna Morretta Del Monaco. She was a resident of Yonkers, NY until moving to the Charlotte area in 1987. While in New York, she started her own business, R.P. Hartly in White Plains, NY.
Mrs. Giglio is survived by her husband of 47 years, Julius A. Giglio and two children, Ralph Giglio and his wife Antonette of Agoura Hill, CA, and Karyn Baum and her husband Tom of Fairfield, CN. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Gian Giglio, Chesa Giglio, Nickolas Baum and Anthony Baum.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be given to St. Matthew Catholic Church, 8015 Ballantyne Commons Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28078.

Goodwin, Maude Carrick
WADESBORO -- Mrs. Maude Carrick Goodwin, 82, died Monday, April 30, 2001 in Union Regional Medical Center in Monroe.
She was born in Davidson County, NC, May 4, 1918, a daughter of the late Wade and Bessie Mae McCarn Carrick. Mrs. Goodwin was retired from West Knitting Mills with 40 years of service and an active member of Deep Creek Baptist Church.
There will be a service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Goodwin Thursday, May 3, 2001 at 11 am in the sanctuary of Deep Creek Baptist Church, with Reverend Charles Cauthen and Reverend George Senter officiating. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park. The family will greet friends from 7-8:30 pm Wednesday night at Leavitt Funeral Home.
Mrs. Goodwin was preceded in death by her husband, Hamer Goodwin, July 7, 1977, by her daughter, Patsy Goodwin Porter, November 22, 1973, and by a brother, Joe Thomas Carrick.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Vallie Ruth and David Millis of Monroe; her sons and daughter-in-law, James R. Goodwin and William H. and Diane Goodwin, all of Wadesboro; her son-in-law and his wife, Fred and Mary Porter of Matthews; her brother and sisters, Julian Carrick of Lexington, NC, Mrs. Ann Burton of Albany, GA, Mrs. Ruth Rush of Anderson, SC, and Mrs. Irene Wright of Columbia, SC; nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Black, Ricky Ray
BOSTIC -- Ricky Ray Black, 40, of 2391 N.C. Hwy. 226, formerly of Kings Mountain and Cooksville, TN, died suddenly on Saturday, April 28, 2001 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. He was born in Cleveland County, November 12, 1960, son of Ken and Frances Gailey Black of Kings Mountain. He was a sales representative for Carolina Medical Supply in Grover, SC, a member of Victory Life Assembly of God in Cherryville, and an avid golfer.
He is survived by his wife, Robbie Jordan Black of the home; parents Ken and Frances Black of Kings Mountain; sons, Dakota Black of Sparta, TN, Cody Black of Denver, NC and step-son Craig and his wife, Crystal Moreland of Bostic; step-daughter and her husband, Jennifer and Travis Reeves of Nebo, NC; brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Shandra Black of Hickory; grandchildren, Trenton Reeves of Nebo, and Jalerie Moreland of Bostic; nieces, Taylor Black and Jordan Black, both of Hickory; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 3pm Wednesday, at Victory Life Assembly of God with burial at City Memorial Cemetery, Cherryville. Rev. Larry Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be from 7-9pm Tuesday evening at Carpenter's Funeral Home, to whom arrangements have been entrusted.
Tyson, Arnold D.
WAXHAW -- Mr. Arnold D. Tyson, age 79, died Sunday, April 29, 2001 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, officiated by Reverend David Lawrence. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Tyson was a retired storekeeper and a farmer. He was born March 23, 1922 in Union County, the son of the late Samuel Seth (SS) Tyson and Florence Yarborough Tyson. He was a US veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey Starnes Tyson of Waxhaw; three daughters, Victoria (Vickie) S. Evans of Falls Church, VA, Marlene T. Wallace of New Bern, and Lisa L. Laton of Waxhaw; two sons, Samuel (Sam) D. Tyson of Monroe, and Kevin D. Tyson of Waxhaw; a sister, Carolyn T. Porter of Waxhaw; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Tuesday, May 1, 2001 at Davis Funeral Home, 1003 East Franklin Street.

Montgomery, H.B. `Sonny`
ROCK HILL -- Mr. H.B. `Sonny` Montgomery, 72, of 407 Guilford Road, passed away Monday, April 30, 2001 at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2001 at Cauthen Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Robert D. Shrum officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, at Lancaster Memorial Park, Lancaster.
Born October 19, 1928 in Lancaster, Mr. Montgomery was the son of the late Lee Oates Montgomery and Viola Blackmon Montgomery. He retired as vice president with Reader's Digest. He was a member of the Hejaz Shrine Temple and was a past master of the Jackson Masonic Lodge No. 53 in Lancaster. He was a former member of the Jaycees.
An avid golfer, Mr. Montgomery was a member of the Rock Hill Country Club where he made a hole in one. He was an Eagle Scout of the Boy Scouts of America and also served as a scoutmaster with the First Baptist Church Boy Scouts in Lancaster, where he was a recipient of the Silver Beaver award. He was a member of Oakland Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the American Legion.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Hagins Montgomery; two sons, Michael Lee Montgomery and his wife, Cathy of Lancaster, and Mitchell Bennett Montgomery and his wife, Suzanne of Raleigh, NC; two daughters, Lou Montgomery and Joy Montgomery, both of Lancaster; his sister, Mary Etta Ware of Manor House in Gastonia; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family received friends Tuesday, May 1, 2001 at Cauthen Funeral Home, Rock Hill Chapel and at other times, at the home.

Bersley, Charles William `Chuck`
Mr. Charles William `Chuck` Bersley, 65, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at Presbyterian Hospital. A Graveside funeral service will be held 1:00pm Thursday, May 3, at the Mausoleum of Sharon Memorial Park with Pastor Richard Hamm officiating.
A native of Gandy, Nebraska, Chuck was born December 2, 1935, the son of the late Clifford and Minnie Joedeman Bersley. He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served in the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Louise Taylor Bersley; two daughters, Gayle Christley of Charlotte, and Patricia Day of Harrisburg, PA; one brother, Dale Bersley of Colorado; two sisters, Irene Diane and Maxine Preston, both of Nebraska; five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Blanton, Charles Logan `Shorty`
DARLINGTON -- Charles Logan `Shorty` Blanton, 72, of Darlington, died Tuesday, May 1, 2001 in a local hospital after an illness.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2001 at 2PM in Union Baptist Church Cemetery, Shelby, NC, directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home.
Mr. Blanton was born in Maiden, NC on September 11, 1928 to Doris Alton and Prima Loray Harbinson Blanton. He was a machinist and was retired from ESAB, formerly L-Tec. Mr. Blanton was a member and Past Master of the St. David's Masonic Lodge #72. His hobbies included hunting and fishing. Mr. Blanton enjoyed going to Takis Restaurant every morning where he would talk about the news of the day. Most of the time, this news included Nascar Racing and politics. Mr. Blanton was a Dale Earnhardt fan and a staunch Democrat. Shorty, as his friends affectionately knew him, will be remembered as a good man and a good father. He loved animals and will be missed by his dogs, Laddie, Louie-Louie and Dutchess.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Pilkey Blanton, of the home; two daughters, Charlotte (Jack) Neal of Greer and Darlene B. Byrd of Darlington; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
