Biggerstaff, Alma Geer Souther Honeycutt
RUTHERFORDTON -- Mrs. Alma Geer Souther Honeycutt Biggerstaff, 91, died May 2, 2001 at White Oak Manor Nursing Home.
funeral service is 2 pm Friday, May 4, 2001 at Southern Baptist Church, with Reverend John Perry, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.
Mrs. Biggerstaff, a native of Rutherford County, NC and a daughter of the late Johnny Geer and Lula Edwards Geer, was the widow of the late Garland Biggerstaff. She was a member of Southern Baptist Church and served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years. She and her first husband, the late Charles Souther, owned a jewelry store in Tryon, NC from 1940 until 1965, when they retired and moved back to Rutherfordton. Alma was also preceded in death by her second husband, Monroe Honeycutt, and by twelve brothers and sisters.
She is survived by seven nieces and nephews, and several grand- and great grandnieces and nephews.

Giglio, Rita
Mrs. Rita Giglio, died April 30, 2001 at Hunter Woods in Charlotte.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1 pm Thursday at St. Matthew Catholic Church with Monsignor John J. McSweeney celebrant. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 9 pm at McEwen Pineville Chapel, with a rosary service at 7 pm.
Born in Bronx, NY she was a daughter of the late Dominic Del Monaco and Giovanna Morretta Del Monaco. She was a resident of Yonkers, NY until moving to the Charlotte area in 1987. While in New York, she started her own business, R.P. Hartly in White Plains, NY.
Mrs. Giglio is survived by her husband of 47 years, Julius A. Giglio and two children, Ralph Giglio and his wife Antonette of Agoura Hill, CA, and Karyn Baum and her husband Tom of Fairfield, CN. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Gian Giglio, Chesa Giglio, Nickolas Baum and Anthony Baum.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be given to St. Matthew Catholic Church, 8015 Ballantyne Commons Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28078.

Threatt, Jack
CHESTER -- Mr. Jack Threatt, 68, died April 30, 2001, at his residence.
Funeral is 2 p.m. Wednesday at Barron Funeral Home with Rev. David Sealy and Chaplain Miriam Mick officiating. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, Lowrys.
Mr. Threatt was born June 22, 1932 in Lancaster, son of the late Julius Thomas Threatt and Leila (Hunter) Threatt. He was retired from Springs Industries and attended Lancaster County Schools. Mr. Threatt was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby B. Threatt; one son, Bill Threatt of Chester; three daughters, Bonnie Hood of Fort Mill, Jackie Threatt of Chester and Teresa Renee White of Chester; one step-son, Roger Beam of Mascoutha, IL; one brother, Paul Threatt of Rock Hill and Julius Threatt of Fort Lawn; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; caregiver, Angela Wright of Chester.

Stephenson, Robert E. `Bobby`
Mr. Robert E. `Bobby` Stephenson, Jr., 51, of Charlotte, NC, died Monday, April 30, 2001 at Carolinas Medical Center.
Mr. Stephenson was born November 16, 1949 in Charleston, South Carolina, a son of Robert E. Stephenson, Sr. and Billie Holmes Stephenson. He moved to Charlotte with his parents in 1950. Mr. Stephenson was a 1968 graduate of Olympic High School and attended Central Piedmont Community College.
Mr. Stephenson loved to drive and worked as a Courier for Pony Express for more than 15 years. His hobbies included playing the guitar and formed a band during high school that became known as `The Back Seat Driver.` They played locally until 1999 when they disbanded. He also loved animals, particularly cats and dogs. He will be missed by family, friends, and fellow band members who played with him for over 30 years.
A service to celebrate the life of Robert `Bobby` Stephenson, Jr., will be held 11:00 am Thursday, May 3, 2001 from the graveside of Forest Lawn West Cemetery with The Reverend Sammy Case officiating. The Stephenson family will greet friends Wednesday evening from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm at the McEwen Pineville Chapel.
Mr. Stephenson is survived by his parents, Robert Earl and Billie Holmes Stephenson of Pineville; sister, Toni S. Knight and husband, Kenneth Knight of Charlotte; nephews, Jason Knight and wife, Mellisa of Waxhaw, and Ryan Knight of Charlotte; uncle, Donald Holmes and wife, Faye Holmes of Senatobia, MS; and aunt, Virginia Hurt of Senatobia, MS.

Elsen, Lorene Ownby
NEW LONDON -- Mrs. Lorene Ownby Elsen, 78, died Monday, April 30, 2001 at Mariner Health Care of Wilmington.
Funeral is 2 pm Thursday, May 3, 2001 at Stanly Memorial Chapel in Albemarle, with Reverend Jason Lee officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7-9 pm this evening, May 2, at Stanly Funeral Home, Inc. of Albemarle.
Mrs. Elsen was born in Sevierville, TN, and was a homemaker. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Nancy E. Flynn of Wilmington; one brother, David Ownby of Cumberland, VA; a granddaughter, Tammy Almond; and a great grandson, Zachary Almond.

Daniel, Dillard Gene
Dillard Gene Daniel, of Charlotte, NC died May 1, 2001 at Mercy Hospital Main.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday at Heritage Funeral Home with the Reverend Wendell Powell officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn East Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 PM Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Daniel was born October 2, 1928 to the late Finnis and Ethel Sells Daniel in Moore County, TN. He was a member of the Charlotte Church of Christ. He was a good Christian and loved by all who knew him. He was a quiet man who showed his love for his family and friends in deeds and by his example. He was called and served his country proudly in the Korean Conflict. He received 4 bronze combat battle stars as well as various other medals for his service. Mr. Daniel was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Paula Jean and a sister, Betty Belcher of Eufaula, AL.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ruth Jones Daniel; his children, David Andrew of Edgemore, SC, Phillip Lynn and wife Sheila and Susan Ruth Daniel of Charlotte, NC. Also 4 grandchildren, Nathan Daniel, Jonathan Whisnant, Andrew Daniel and Ashley Daniel; one step-grandson, Charles "Chet" Doherty; brothers, Winford Daniel of Murfreesboro, TN, and Douglas Daniel of Tullahoma, TN, and 2 sisters, Evelyn Van Meter & Rayma Stone of Tullahoma, TN.

Black, William James
LANCASTER -- Mr. William James Black, 76, of 3574 East North Corner Road, passed away Monday, April 30, 2001 at his home.
He was born October 12, 1924 in Matthews, NC, a son of the late Mr. William Mack Black and Mrs. Jessie Mae Black. Mr. Black was a member of the Matthews Murkland Presbyterian Church and was retired from General Tire Company.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 5, 2001 at 1 pm from the Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel, by the Reverend Larry Hill. Cremation will follow the services.
Mr. Black is survived by his wife, Mrs. Martha Walker Black; three sons, Mr. William Black, Jr. and Mr. Gregory Alexander Black, both of Cleveland, OH, and Mr. James Edward Black of Lancaster; three daughters, Ms. Linda Marie Cunningham of Chester, Ms. Gloria Jean Witherspoon of Charlotte, and Ms. Shirley Hogue of Cleveland, OH; fifteen grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Mr. Black was preceded in death by a son, Mr. William Taylor.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm Friday, May 4, 2001 at the Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel, and other times at the home, 3574 East North Corner Road, Lancaster.

Mitchell, Claudia Blanche Odom
Claudia Blanche Odom Mitchell, 75 of Murrells Inlet, formerly of Charlotte, NC, died Monday, April 30, 2001 at Georgetown Hospital. Born October 12, 1925 in Unaka, NC, she was a daughter of the late John and Bertha Odom.
Mrs. Mitchell was a retired Teachers Aide for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System.
Surviving is her husband, Joseph Mitchell of Murrells Inlet; three daughters, Jody Mitchell of Fort Mill, SC, Jayne Shelton of Mooresville, NC, and Claire Graves of Newburg, MD; one son, Steve Mitchell of Socastee, SC; one brother, Herman Odom of Murphy, NC; and 8 grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date. Memorials may be made in her name to Georgetown Hospice, 2591 North Fraser Street, Georgetown, SC 29440.

GASTONIA -- Barbara Jean Goodson, 52, died May 1, 2001 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
Graveside service is 2 pm Friday, May 4, 2001 at Gaston Memorial Park, with Reverend Ken Faulkenbury officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 pm this evening, May 3, 2001 at Ward Funeral Home of Gastonia, and at other times at the home of Judith Moose, 2402 Judith Avenue, Gastonia.
Barbara was born in Gaston County, a daughter of the late Morris Goodson and the late Naomi Porch. She was a former employee of The Gaston Gazette.
Barbara is survived by her sister, Judith Moose of Gastonia; one niece, Sabrina Canup of Gastonia; one nephew, Marvin Moose of Lowell; and her grandmother, Lucy Porch of Gastonia.
