Aughtry, Robert Woods
CHESTER -- Mr. Robert Woods Aughtry, 86, died Monday, April 30, 2001 at Chester County Hospital.
funeral service will be 5 pm Wednesday, May 2, 2001 at Bethel United Methodist church, with Reverend John Williams officiating. Interment will be in Chester Memorial Gardens.
A native of Whitmire, SC, Mr. Aughtry was a son of the late Zack Aughtry and the late Mabel Aughtry. He had been employed with Liberty Life Insurance Company, and was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church for 42 years, where he was a trustee and also taught the Mens Bible Class. Mr. Aughtry was a graduate of Whitmire High School, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he served during World War II. He was a member of the Roseboro Masonic Lodge #195, Whitmire, SC, where he was a member for over 50 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Wayne and Philip Aughtry.
Mr. Aughtry is survived by his wife, Nellie W. Aughtry, one daughter and son-in-law, Julia A. and Lewis Long of Rock Hill; one step-daughter, Dale Jones of Morganton, NC; one brother, Jack Aughtry of Whitmire; three sisters, Mabel Dillard and Myra Wilkerson, both of Whitmire, and Louise Aughtry of Clinton; and two grandsons, Daniel and Brandon Kersbergen, both of Rock Hill.

Jenkins, Grace Dawkins
Grace Dawkins Jenkins, 83, of Southport, North Carolina, formerly of Charlotte, died Sunday, April 29, 2001 in Southport.
Funeral will be 2:00 PM Friday, May 4, 2001 at McEwen funeral service, Charlotte Chapel. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM tonight at the Funeral Home.
Mrs. Jenkins was born February 7, 1918 in Rockingham, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Vernon Dawkins and Frankie Thompson Dawkins. She had been employed by Highland Park Mills in Charlotte. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas W. Jenkins, a grandson, Marc Jenkins, a brother, Earl Dawkins, and a sister, Anabell Barrett.
Surviving are her children, Tommy Jenkins of Phoenix, AZ, Charlotte Mae Jenkins of Southport, NC, Darrell Jenkins of Port Royal, FL, Darlene Morgan of Monroe, NC and Gerald Jenkins of Orlando, FL; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and 1 great, great grandson.

Anstey, Vincent William
LANCASTER -- Mr. Vincent William Anstey, 89, formerly of Rock Hill, died Monday, April 30, 2001 at Lancaster Convalescent Center.
funeral service will be 2 pm Friday, May 4, 2001 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, with Reverend Michael Bolus officiating. Interment will be in the Hopewell Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 pm Thursday, May 3, 2001 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, and at other times at the home of his son, Vincent James Anstey, 3210 Timothy Drive, Rock Hill, SC.
A native of Medina, NY, Mr. Anstey was a retiree of Chase Bag Co. in Buffalo, NY, with 20 years of service. He was a member of Odd Fellows Lodge in York, SC, and a member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church. Mr. Anstey was the widower of Verna P. Anstey.
Surviving are his son, Vincent Anstey of Rock Hill; his daughter, Deanna Miller of Rhonda, FL; three brothers, Roderick Anstey of Venice, FL, Norman Anstey of Paris, TN, and Cedric Anstey of Medina, NY; his sister, Naomi Watts of Medina, NY; as well as five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Parrish, Hilda A.
Mrs. Hilda A. Parrish, age 89, of Charlotte, passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2001 at Sunrise of Eastover. Funeral services will take place in Maryland with interment at the Sandy Mount United Methodist Church Cemetery, Finksburg, MD.
Mrs. Parrish was born February 22, 1912 in Randolph County, NC, a daughter of the late R. Franklin Lassiter and Dora Spencer Lassiter. A former resident of Finksburg, MD, she graduated from high school in Hyattsville, MD, and was retired from the United States government, where she had worked in the Department of Defense. In later years, she was a homemaker. In 1983, Mrs. Parrish, and her sister, Lena Jennings, moved to Charlotte, where she was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her son, Robert Parrish, and wife, Anne, of Charlotte; granddaughters, Patricia Young, of Independence, MO, Melissa Scheper, of Beaufort, NC; grandson, Timothy Parrish, of Blue Springs, MO; and five great-grandchildren, Patricia Anne, Heather Michele, Kaitlin Jean, Rachel, and Jackson Cole. Also surviving are nieces, Nancy Mitton and Edith Brooks, both of Lancaster, SC and Christine Perry, of Westminster, MD.
In lieu of floral tributes, memorial contributions in the name of Mrs. Hilda Parrish may be made to the Building Fund of Wesley United Methodist Church, 3715 Rea Road, Charlotte, NC 28226.

Jolly, Elizabeth Lassiter
Elizabeth Lassiter Jolly, 92, of Charlotte, died on April 30, 2001.
The family will receive friends Thursday, May 3, 2001 from 7 until 8:30 pm at 1509 Scotland Avenue in Charlotte. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Southminster, 8919 Park Road in Charlotte at 10:30 am on Friday, May 4, 2001. There will also be a brief service at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery at 3:30 pm on Friday.
Lib Jolly was born in Aulander, NC, graduated from UNC Greensboro, and was a librarian in the NC public schools until retirement. She lived in Chapel Hill for 33 years before moving to Charlotte in 1987. She was married to Raymond A. Jolly of Chapel Hill, who predeceased her.
She is survived by her son, Raymond A. Jolly, Jr. and his wife Kimm H. Jolly; three grandchildren, Carole L. Jolly and her husband Mark R. Renzi, Christopher H. Jolly and his wife Sue H. Jolly, and David L. Jolly; two great grandchildren, Marco Jolly Renzi and Julianna Jolly Renzi; and her niece, Dana P. Gorham and her husband Philip Gorham.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Red Cross.

Horton, Carl Alex
KERSHAW -- Mr. Carl Alex Horton, Jr. of 1662 Horton Rollins Road, husband of Mrs. Ina Horton, died Tuesday afternoon, May 1, 2001 at Marion County Medical Center in Mullins, SC due to an automobile accident. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Hartley Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster, 803-283-2100, is in charge of arrangements for Mr. Horton.
Scott, Frazier Paul
Frazier Paul Scott, 88, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001 at his home.
Mr. Scott was born December 12, 1912 in Montcalm, West Virginia, a son of the late Lucieta and Crocket Scott. He was the last to survive of nine children.
Mr. Scott is survived by his wife of 65 years, Virginia Martin Scott of the home; one daughter, Beverly Scott Holder and her husband, George Holder of Charlotte; one son, Dr. Jimmy Paul Scott of Hastings, Ontario, Canada; five grandchildren, Jay Scott of Media, PA, Jonathan Scott and wife, Karin of Paderborn, Germany, Lisa Holder Paige and husband, Rusty of Charlotte, Maria Holder Davis and husband, Benny of Deltona, FL, Melissa Holder Kirkland and husband, Robert of Gastonia, NC; three great-grandchildren, Tiffany Davis, age 9 of Deltona, FL, Robbie Kirkland, age 3 of Gastonia, NC and Brian Scott, age 1 of Paderborn, Germany; also many loving nieces, nephews and Martin family members.
Mr. Scott graduated from McComas High School in McComas, WV and from Bluefield Business College in Bluefield, WV with a full basketball scholarship.
He served in the United States Army during World War II, where he took part in the Battle of the Bulge and the falling of Remogan Bridge as Technical Sgt. in the 3rd Army. He received the GOod Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon. The happiest day of his life was when he returned home from war to his wife and two young children.
After the War in 1946, he was transferred by Jewel Tea Company to Charlotte as manager for both North and South Carolina. At the age of 55, he retired from the Jewel Co. and became a Purchasing Agent for Northwestern Bank, currently First Union, for 10 years.
Mr. Scott's greatest pleasure, other than his family, was his love of tending his 3 acres of yard, flowers, fruit trees and huge vegetable garden, which he loved sharing with his family, friends and neighbors. He had a full and happy life in Charlotte, taking part in many community activities including, President of the West Meck. Optimist Club 1958-59, was an active member of Woodlawn Baptist Church, charter member of Mulberry Baptist Church and current member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church.
In 1995, Mr. Scott was cured after lung cancer surgery. He enjoyed life fully until declining health slowed him in 1997.
A sincere `Thank You` for the dedicated care given by the Hospice Team, Dr. Terry Benson, Dr. Emmett Matthews, Dr. Lee Guice and their efficient staffs.
A service to celebrate the life of Frazier P. Scott will be held 2:00 PM Friday, May 4, 2001 from the sanctuary of Durham Memorial Baptist Church with The Reverend Dr. Gerald Bearden, Senior Pastor, and The Reverend Phil Thomas, Youth Pastor of Durham Memorial Baptist Church, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. Pallbearers escorting Mr. Scott's casket will be Basil Scott, Raymond Massaroni, Dennis Martin, Ernest Smith, Rusty Paige, and Robert Kirkland. Honorary pallbearers will be The Men and Ladies Bible Class of Durham Memorial Baptist Church. The Scott family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour at the church.

Mrs. Betty Anthony of Farm Pond Lane, Charlotte, died May 2, 2001 at her home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time, and have been entrusted to Grier funeral service of Charlotte.
Stacks, Douglas David `Bolo`
LANCASTER -- Mr. Douglas David `Bolo` Stacks, 40, of 814 Langley Road, died Saturday, April 28, 2001 at his home.
Born March 19, 1961 in Lancaster, South Carolina, he was the son of Mrs. Peggy Langley and the late David Lackie Stacks. He was an employee of Conbraco Industries in Pageland, SC.
Survivors include his mother; a sister, Mrs. Chuck (Audra Stacks) Howser of Murrells Inlet; step-mother, Mrs. Laura Stacks of Lancaster; two step-brothers, Tim Stacks and Darren Stacks of Lancaster; a step-sister, Kendra Stacks of Lancaster; and four step-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 2, at the Mahaffey Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Rommy Mullis. Interment will be in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery, Lancaster, SC. The family will receive friends at Mahaffey Funeral Home from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. this evening.

Josephine Potts, 88, died Friday, April 27, 2001, at Carolinas Medical Center.
Funeral is 2 p.m. Saturday at Clinton Chapel AME Zion Church. Visitation is 1-2 p.m. at the church.
She leaves to mourn eight children, three sons and five daughters: Mr. John S. Potts, Mr. Thomas J. Potts, Mr. William H. Potts, Mrs. Joan Cannon, Ms. Jannie Potts Cuffie, Ms. Elvenia Potts, Mrs. Louise Potts Holloway, Ms. Gladys D. Potts, all of Charlotte.

Eudy, Wilma Rhyne
GASTONIA -- Mrs. Wilma Rhyne Eudy, 88, of 1680 S. New Hope Road, Abingdon Place, died Monday, April 30, 2001.
A native of Gaston County, Mrs. Eudy was a daughter of the late Oscar Little and Cornelia Arsula Holland Rhyne. She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Eudy, as well as a brother, Howard L. Rhyne, and two sisters, Blanche R. Rutledge and Mary R. Armstrong. Mrs. Eudy graduated from Gastonia High School, and was a member of First United Methodist Church, Friendship Club, and Claude Moser Sunday School Class. She was an avid gardener, loved people, and her dogs. Mrs. Eudy had retired from Matthews-Belk of Gastonia.
Mrs. Eudy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John A. Eudy, Jr. and Glenda P. Eudy of High Shoals; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol Jean and George C. Winecoff, III of Gastonia; a sister-in-law, Idella Froneberger Rhyne of Gastonia; three grandchildren, JoAnna Winecoff Wells of Raleigh, John C. Winecoff and Jonathan A. Eudy of Gastonia; and four great grandchildren, Jesse T. Winecoff and Maddie J. Winecoff of Gastonia, and Grace Wells and Carolina Wells of Raleigh.
Graveside services will be 2 pm Thursday, May 3, 2001 at Gaston Memorial Park, with Dr. Jody Seymour officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 2, 2001 from 7-8:30 pm at the McLean Funeral Directors.
