Parker, Pauline Travis
STATESVILLE -- Mrs. Pauline Travis Parker, 90, of 2555 S. Chipley Ford Rd, died April 4, 2001 2001. Funeral is 2 p.m. Saturday at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Smith, Paul David
TAYLORSVILLE -- Mr. Paul David Smith, 53, died April 5, 2001. Funeral is 2 p.m. today at Catawba Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation is 12-2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Hinson, I. Lamar
THOMASTON, GA -- Mr. I. Lamar Hinson, Jr., a native of Thomaston, Georgia, died Wednesday, April 4th, 2001 at his home after briefly enduring pancreatic cancer.

He was a 1952 graduate of Davidson College and member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) Fraternity.

Mr. Hinson is survived by his wife and 3 children.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning 11:00 at the Thomaston First Presbyterian Church.

Phelps, Mary Julia Williams Farley
VALE -- Mary Julia Williams Farley Phelps, 88, of 5483 Hope Road, died April 4, 2001 at Frye Regional Medical Center.

Funeral is 3 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder Oscar Maddox officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Allen Mitchell Funeral Home, Hickory and other times at 5483 Hope Road, Vale.

Born April 10, 1912 in Putnam County, Georgia, Mrs. Phelps was the daughter of the late Oliver & Texanna Evans Williams, and widow of the late Will Farley and Charlie Phelps, Sr. She was a homemaker and church clerk for Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her son, Edward Farley; son-in-law, Rev. Leroy Wilson; daughter-in-law, Inez Phelps; eight sisters; and four brothers.

Surviving are her daughters, Willie Mae Wilson and Bernice Thomas & husband, Henry Thomas, Sr., all of Hickory, Frances Mungro & husband, Harvey Mungro of Charlotte, Ethel Jean Watkins & husband, George Watkins, Jr. of Vale; sons, Willie O. Farley of Vale, and Coleman Farley & wife, Pastor Elouise Farley of Vale, and son, Charlie Phelps, Jr. of the home; grandson, Thomas Christopher Phelps of the home; 27 other grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and many other relatives & friends.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church Building Fund, 772 Car Farm Road, Lincolnton, NC 28092.

McAbee, Inez White
YORK -- Mrs. Inez White McAbee, 94, of 446 Blessed Hope Road, died Thursday, April 5, 2001 at White Oak Manor Nursing Home, York, SC.

Funeral is 3 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001 at Union Baptist Church, York, SC, with Rev. Alan Price & Rev. Shannon Duncan officiating. Burial will be in Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. today at Bratton Funeral Home.

Born in York, SC, Mrs. McAbee was the daughter of the late David Allen White and Margaret McAbee White. She was a retired winder in the textile industry and a member of Union Baptist Church Ladies' Bible Class. Mrs. McAbee was also preceded in death by her husband, James Franklin McAbee; son, James Allen McAbee; granddaughter, Marsha George Privette; and her great-grandson, Lee Taylor George.

Surviving are five daughters, Thelma McAbee Hartsoe of York, SC, Evelyn McAbee George & husband, Mack of York, SC, Reola McAbee Rowlan of Cramerton, NC, Grace McAbee Eskew & husband, Ed of Gaffney, SC, and Jean Barley of York, SC; sister, Grace White Blackwelder of Fort Mill, SC; 15 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Activity Dept. of White Oak Manor Nursing Home, 111 S. Congress St., York, SC 29745; or to the York Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 644, York, SC 29745.

Clark, Mildred Ann
Mrs. Mildred Ann Clark, 83, of Charlotte, NC, died Wednesday, April 5, 2001 at Presbyterian Hospital.

Mrs. Clark was born January 30, 1918 in Lafayette Parish, Louisiana, a daughter of the late Aaron Nugent and Angelle Broussard Nugent. She was a sales clerk with Belk Department Store for ten years. Most importantly, Mrs. Clark was a dedicated and loving wife, mother and grandmother who always put her family first. She was a member of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Monday, April 9, 2001 from the sanctuary of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church with Father Francis P. Gillespie, S.J., Celebrant and Father Joe Zuschmdt assisting. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Park, Harrisburg, NC. The Clark family will greet friends Sunday afternoon from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at the McEwen Derita Chapel.

Mrs. Clark is survived by her husband of 57 years, Parks D. Clark of Charlotte; daughters Barbara Ann Clark of Kinston, NC and Patricia Christie and son-in-law Mike Christie of Harrisburg, NC; grandsons John Wesley Christie, Michael Wayne Christie and David Philip Christie; and sister Mrs. Aileen Hoffpauir of Duson, Louisiana.

At the request of Mrs. Mildred Clark, memorials may be made to Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, 4207 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215.

Charlesetta Clemons of 833 Farmhurst Drive, Charlotte, NC 28217, died April 6, 2001 at Saturn Nursing & Rehabilitation. Family Mortuary 704-377-4400 is entrusted with the arrangements.

Driggers, Mrs. Betty Norris
Mrs. Betty Norris Driggers, 67, of Charlotte, North Carolina, died April 5, 2001 at her residence.

Mrs. Driggers was born March 10, 1934 in Bennettsville, South Carolina, a daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Norris and Gladys Housand Norris. She had worked as a hair stylist for more than thirty years before her retirement. Mrs. Driggers was a member of Sharon Forest Baptist Church.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Driggers will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, April 8, 2001 from the McEwen Mint Hill Chapel. Burial will be private with the immediate family. The Driggers family will greet friends Sunday from 3:00 PM until 4:00 PM at the Mint Hill Chapel.

Mrs. Driggers was a loving mother to her four children: Rick Driggers of Matthews, Delores Kirkland of Charlotte, Gregg Driggers of Charlotte and Kim Knell of Concord; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two sisters, Eunice Neal of Marietta, GA and Tena Oliver of McColl, SC; two brothers, James Norris of Alexus, NC and Russell Williams of McColl, SC.

Memorials may be made in remembrance of Mrs. Betty Norris Driggers for Breast Cancer Research c/o The American Cancer Society, 500 E. Morehead Street, Charlotte, NC 28202 or to Hickory Grove United Methodist Church Recreational Program, 6401 Hickory Grove Road, Charlotte, NC 28215.

Fesperman, Howard Forbes
Mr. Howard Forbes Fesperman, 79, of Charlotte, died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at Presbyterian Hospital. Pending arrangements are in the care of the Wilson Chapel of Hankins & Whittington funeral service.

Johnson, Evelyn L.
Mrs. Evelyn L. Johnson, 87, of Charlotte died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at Sardis Nursing Home.

Evelyn was born in Moscow, AR on Oct. 7, 1913 and was the daughter of the late Andrew and Ila McCone Lambert. Mrs. Johnson had resided in Washington, DC for 39 years, and had more recently lived at Folly Beach, SC. Mrs. Johnson had been a Charlotte resident for the last two years, and was an avid reader, who also enjoyed travel, the ocean and pets.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband of 61 years, Daniel; daughter, Allison Dudley and her husband, Stuart Malter; and grandson, Jonathan Dudley, all of Charlotte.

Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Charlotte, PO Box 221028, Charlotte, NC 28222.

Lindsay, Gaye Severs
Mrs. Gaye Severs Lindsay passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at home.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 7 at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church. The Reverend Bob Jack will be officiating.

Mrs. Lindsay was born on January 16th, 1940, in Charlotte, to the late John Wilson and Alpretta Saxe Severs. She resided and attended school in Charlotte, graduating from Harding High School in 1958. After finishing high school she married her high school sweetheart, and their love has been an inspiration to all they meet.

Mrs. Lindsay was employed with the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System as a crossing guard, cashier and most recently as a receptionist at Garinger High School. At Garinger she was a member of the C.M.A.E.O.P. where she served as membership chairman and High School Director.

She attended Plaza United Methodist Church for most of her life and served as President of the United Methodist Women and Chairperson of Council on Ministries. She was also active in the choir and youth program. Later she attended First United Methodist Church and continued her love of music singing in the church choir. She just recently became a member at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church where her parents attended church and where she attended early morning services for quite some time.

Mrs. Lindsay was also an active member of the Camelettes of the Red Fez Shrine Club of which she was a past president.

Survivors include her husband of 42 plus years, Johnny Lee Lindsay, Sr.; children, son, Johnny Lee Lindsay Jr. and wife Cindy of Huntersville, daughter, Neena Lindsay Hudson and husband Eddie of Fort Mill, son, Jeffrey William Lindsay and wife Teri of Charlotte, son, Joel Wilson Lindsay and daughter, Margaret Janine Lindsay. Grandchildren, Jessica Craven Lindsay, Mitchell Edward Hudson, Miranda Lindsay Hudson, Megan Christine Hudson, and Maisie Erin Hudson. Brother, John Wilson (Jack) Severs and wife Claudia. She was preceded in death by a brother, Frederick George Severs.

Words cannot express the numerous contributions she made to all of our lives. She will be remembered always as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to Garinger High School, for the "Gaye Lindsay Scholarship Fund", 1100 Eastway Drive, Charlotte, N.C. 28205 or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements are by the Wilson Chapel of Hankins & Whittington funeral service.

Mobley, Master Johnathon Sweetenburg
Master Johnathon Sweetenburg Mobley, of 3030 Karen Court, Apt. C., died Friday, March 30, 2001, at Presbyterian Hospital. Memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 8, 2001 at 2:00 pm at St. Like Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Clifford Matthews officiating. Interment will be private at York Memorial Park.

He is survived by his parents, Byron Mobley and Sharon Sweetenburg; brother Brandon Sweetenburg; maternal grandparents, Robert and Pearline Sweetenburg; great grandmother, Katherine Evans; aunts Rochelle Sweetenburg, Dana Black and Wanda Mobley; and special cousin, Mia Boyd.
