Darryl M. Denton

WOODLEAF — The funeral will be Tuesday for Darryl Martin Denton will be held Mr. Denton, 32, 2725 South River Church Road who died Friday (Aug. 20, 1999) from injuries in an automobile accident on Jake Alexander Boulevard, Salisbury.

Born July 20, 1967, in Rowan County, he was son of Leroy and Laura Way Denton. He attended West Rowan High School and Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. He was employed by John’s Place.

Mr. Denton belonged to South River Church of Christ and was a former member and emergency medical technician with the Scoth-Irish Volunteer Fire Department.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include son Martin Denton, Woodleaf; sister Shelia White, Salisbury; maternal grandparents Martin Luther and Elsie Marie Hagler Way, Salisbury.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, South River Church of Christ, conducted by the Rev. Don Sloan and the Rev. Carl Rothrock. The body will be placed in the church at 10: 30.Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Monday, Summersett Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at his parents’ home, 2745 South River Church Road.

Felicia R. Farmer

Felicia Renee Farmer, 14, 1211 Grady St. died Saturday (Aug. 21, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Sept. 9, 1985, in Rowan County, she was daughter of William and Evelyn White Farmer, both of Salisbury. Miss Farmer was an eighth-grader at the Independent Secondary School in Salisbury.

She attended World of Faith Church.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include brothers William Farmer Jr. and Curtis White, both of Salisbury; sisters Patricia Watson, Janice Farmer and Yvette Farmer, all of Salisbury.

Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Cora Jones Fleming

The funeral for Cora Jones Fleming, 50, 7720 Woodleaf Road, Woodleaf, who died Friday at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a serious illness of 19 months.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Trinity Presbyterian Church, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. George Hunter.

Visitation: 1: 30 p.m. Monday at the church.

Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home in charge.

Rev. John ‘Johnnie’ Jones

ALBEMARLE — The Rev. John Lindsay “Johnnie” Jones, 89, 509 Lowder St., died at 3: 18 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 21, 1999) at Britthaven Nursing Center

Born Aug. 7, 1910, in Alabama, he was son of the late Frank and Molly Bernhardy. Mr. Jones was a retired owner of Jones Shoe Repair. He also was the retired minister of Lake City Wesleyan Church in Lake City, Tenn.

Mr. Jones belonged to Albemarle Wesleyan Church and served as a devotional leader at various nursing homes. He was a Golden speaker and past member of the Toastmasters.

His wife, Mary Lillie Harvell Jones, preceded him in death.

Survivors include sons Johnnie Frank Jones, Richfield, E. Lindsay Jones, Sanford; daughters mrs. Carroll (Carolyn) Lowder, Wingate, Eleanor Starnes, Albemarle; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Albemarle Wesleyan Church, conducted by the Rev. David Rollins and the Rev. Leon Thompson. Burial, Stanly Gardens of Memory.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home. The family also will be at the home on Lowder Street.

Memorials: Albemarle Wesleyan Church, 33671 Mann Road, Albemarle, N.C. 28001.

William Kenneth Mills

MOORESVILLE — William Kenneth Mills, 81, Melody Lane, died Sunday (Aug. 22, 1999) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.

Born March 5, 1918, in Iredell County, Mr. Mills was a son of the late William Pickney and Emma Sloop Mills. A carpenter and a farmer, he was a member of Berea Baptist Church.

Survivors include wife Martha Blackwelder Mills, whom he married Nov. 6, 1948; sons William Davis Mills, Robins Air Force Base, Ga., and Jeffery Dale Mills, Mooresville; brother Hebron Mills, Davidson; sisters Dora Marlowe and Laurene McAllister, both of Mooresville, and Margie Isenhour, Concord; and one granddaughter.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Berea Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dan L. Freeman. Burial with military rites, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8: 30 p.m. Tuesday, Cavin Funeral Home.

Memorials: Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, N.C. 28707-3000.

James David Farrington

James David Farrington, 49, Salisbury, died Sunday (Aug. 22, 1999) at his parents’ home after a year of declining health and six months of serious illness.

Born April 11, 1950, in Rowan County, Mr. Farrington was a son of Cecil Murray and Ruby Holshouser Farrington of Salisbury. He was a 1968 graduate of East Rowan High School and a 1972 graduate of Appalachian State University. He owned and operated Village Pantry.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include wife Elizabeth Raney Farrington, whom he married Aug. 11, 1991; son David Bradford Farrington, Matthews; daughter Cynthia Hayley Farrington, Matthews; brother Dr. Cecil Farrington Jr., Salisbury; and sister Mrs. Freddy (Clarice F.) Einstein, Advance.

Services: Service of remembrance, 11 a.m. Tuesday, Christiana Lutheran Church, Granite Quarry, conducted by the Rev. Carl M. Haynes. Private burial will be held in the church cemetery at a later date.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Lyerly Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of his parents.

Memorials: Rowan Regional Home Health and Hospice, 825-A W. Henderson St., Salisbury, N.C. 28144; or donor’s choice.

Viola Hargrave Dixon

The funeral will be Thursday for Viola Elaine Hargrave Dixon, 417 Willow Road, who died Friday (Aug. 20, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after three years of declining health.

Services: 4 p.m. Thursday, Trinity Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. George Hunter. Burial, 11 a.m., Friday, U.S. National Cemetery, Salisbury.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home.

Pauline Rymer Baker

KANNAPOLIS — Pauline Rymer Baker, 75, 2104 Autumn Lane, died Sunday (Aug. 22, 1999) at her home.

Born Aug. 10, 1924, in Rowan County, Mrs. Baker was a daughter of the late A.M. and Lillie Beaver Rymer. A graduate of Landis High School, she had retired from Cannon Mills, No. 7 weave room. She was a member of Mount Zion United Church of Christ.

Survivors include daughter Margaret Dillard, Monroe, Ga.; brother John Clifford Rymer, China Grove; and sisters Alice Rymer Bates, Cora Weddington and Eva Mae Deal, all of China Grove.

Services: 3 p.m. Thursday, Northcrest Chapel Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. William Campbell. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.

Visitation: 1: 30-3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials: Mount Zion United Church of Christ, Box 477, China Grove, N.C. 28023.

Rev. L.B. Brown

The Rev. L.B. Brown, 81, Bremen, Ga., died Saturday (Aug. 21, 1999) at Tanner Medical Center, Carrollton, Ga.

Local survivors include a son, the Rev. L.E. Brown, Salisbury; daughters Winnell B. Short and Lorna Brown-Ray, both of Spencer, and Ernestine B. Ingram, Salisbury; 20 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday, Antioch Baptist Church, Bremen, Ga., conducted by the Rev. Tommy Harris and his son, the Rev. L.E. Brown. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8 tonight, Walker Funeral Home, Carrollton, Ga.

Paul William Hendrix

MOCKSVILLE - The funeral will be held Wednesday for Paul William Hendrix, 80, of North Main Street, who died Monday (Aug. 23, 1999) at his home.

Born Oct. 12, 1918, in Davie County, he was a son of the late Charlie A. and Myrtle Sain Hendrix. A self-employed brick mason, he was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include wife Dorothy Grubbs Hendrix; and brothers Thomas A. and Richard L. Hendrix, both of Advance.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Eaton Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Bill Davis. Burial in Eaton Baptist Church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Memorials: First Baptist Church, 390 N. Main St., Mocksville, N. C. 27028.

Nell Rash Day

MOCKSVILLE - The funeral will be held Wednesday for Nell Rash Day, 92, of Sunset Drive, who died Sunday (Aug. 22, 1999) at Lexington Health Care in Lexington.

Born April 24, 1907, in Wilkes County, she was a daughter of the late W. F. and Margaret Myers Rash. A graduate of Appalachian State University, she taught school in Wilkes, Davie and Yadkin counties. Following her retirement, she tutored children and adults in reading as a volunteer. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

A daughter, Ann Day Stoner, preceded her in death.

Survivors include son Billy Burris Day, Beaverdam, Va.; daughter Mrs. Bill (Brenda) Harpe, Mocksville; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Eaton Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Bill Davis and the Rev. John D. Shore. Burial in Rose Cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Memorials: First Baptist Church Library Fund, 390 N. Main St., Mocksville, N. C. 27028.
