HICKORY -- Cha Mee Yang, 41, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001 at Frye Regional Hospital, Hickory. Her funeral service will be Sunday, April 1, 2001 at Catawba Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Catawba Memorial Park. Pastor Lao Her will officiate. Visitation will be at Catawba Funeral Home on Saturday, March 31 from 9-12pm and 4-10pm.

Rev. J.J. Patterson
HIGH POINT -- At 12:06 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28, 2001, the Angels came and took home God's Servant, The Rev. John J. Patterson ("My Daddy"). Rev. Patterson, son of the late Rev. Ernest A. and Lillie Patterson, was born May 3, 1912 in Richmond County. He graduated from Peabody Academy in Troy and attended Livingston College, Salisbury.
In September 1938 Rev. Patterson was called into the pastorial ministry and served in Lavern, AL with the AME Zion Church. He returned to North Carolina to continue his service with the then North Carolina Conference of the Methodist Church. His congregations included John Wesley in Fayetteville, St. Peters in Hamlet, St. Mark in High Point, Hartzell-St. Paul-McQueens Chapel in Catawba County, St. Matthews and New Goshen in Greensboro.
From 1960-1966 he served as District Superintendent of the Winston District of the North Carolina-Virginia Conference. Other services to the Methodist Church included Conference Statistician Commission on Minimal Salaries and many other Boards and Commissions.
He was a father to many Pastors and served other congregations in High Point in many capacities. These congregations include Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, Calvary Baptist Church and St. Paul Presbyterian Church.
His community services in High Point included the High Point Ministerial Alliance and the High Point Human Relations Commission.
In 1939 Rev. Patterson was married to the late Ruth Hoover who preceded him in death in 1981. To this union was born three children, Johnnie Jr., Lillie Ruth and Regina. He was preceded in death by Johnnie Jr. and Lillie Ruth; 10 brothers and sisters, Lula, Mattie, Ernest, James, Callie, Martha Jane, Henrietta, Sarah, Neal and Nollie.
He is survived by his wife, Dilcie Merritt Patterson of the home; one daughter, Regina P. Snead of Salisbury; one sister, Edna Brewington of Rockingham; five grandchildren, Lisha Ricks of Norfolk, VA, Darlene Horne, Kimberly Holmes, Byron and Christopher Holmes, all of Hickory; one son-in-law, Thomas Holmes of Taylorsville; special god-daughter, Nakia Mock of High Point; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many, many special children, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2001, at Memorial United Methodist Church on Cedrow Dr. in High Point. Burial will be in Carolina Biblical Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the services and other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to Memorial United Methodist Church for Potter/Mock scholarships.

KNOXVILLE, TN -- Mr. Daniel Edward Lueder, age 31, of Knoxville, TN, died Thursday, March 29, 2001. A graduate of the University of Tennessee, Mr. Lueder was a sales executive with DeRoyal Industries in Knoxville. He is survived by his mother and step-father, Lucyanne and Bill Nolan of Augusta, GA; father and step-mother, Donald C. and Jan Lueder of Charlotte, NC; sister, Judith Anne Lueder of Atlanta, GA; brothers, Donald C. Lueder, Jr. of Jacksonville, NY, and Douglas A. Lueder of Atlanta; paternal grandparents, Francis A. and Marion L. Lueder of Jacksonville, NY; fiancee, Judy Christensen of Knoxville; step-sisters, Lisa and P.A. Bowler of Nashville, TN, and Jennifer Nolan of Ypsilanti, MI; step-brother, Brett and Kerrie Pasternak of Konosha, WI; and his beloved Labrador Retriever, `Keeler`.

Avant, Donovan Rufus
LANCASTER -- Mr. Donovan Rufus Avant, 78, of 225 Rickenbacker Street, Lancaster, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Union Regional Medical Center, Monroe, North Carolina.
Born September 3, 1922, in Lancaster, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Brewster Virdell and Isilta Belle Cribb Avant. He was a self employed piano tuner and technician and employee of Holloway Music in Monroe, NC. He was a member of the United Pentecostal Church in Rock Hill, SC.
Mr. Avant was the widower of the late Merle Doris Whitsett. Survivors include a son, Mr. Dennis Avant of Charlotte, NC; three daughters, Mrs. Janet Snellman of Medicine Lake, MT, Ms. Jeannie Corzo of Charlotte, NC, and Mrs. Anna Smith of Waynesboro, NC; a brother, Mr. Robert Avant of Lancaster; a sister, Mrs. Lydia Lambert of Georgetown, SC; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Monday, April 2, from the Mahaffey Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, conducted by the Rev. D. L. Erickson. Interment will be in the Lancaster Memorial Park, Lancaster, SC. The family will receive friends at the Mahaffey Funeral Home Sunday, April 1, from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M.

Faulkenberry, Eula Mae
LANCASTER -- Mrs. Eula Mae Faulkenberry, 75, died March 29, 2001 at the Lancaster Convalescent Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Saturday, from the Mahaffey Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, conducted by the Reverend Thurmond Johnson. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Plains Baptist Church Cemetery, Kershaw.
Born in Camden, SC, she was a daughter of the late Lonnie Lemuel and Essie Love Gardner, and the widow of Curtis Lee Faulkenberry. She was a retired employee of Springs Industries, and a member of Pleasant Plains Baptist Church, Kershaw.
Mrs. Faulkenberry is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Andrew (Ethel) Yarbrough of Great Falls, MS, Ms. Daisy B. Funderburk of Lancaster, Mary Louise Ross of Charlotte, NC, and Mrs. Bobby (Patricia) Blackmon of Lancaster; two brothers, Mr. Bruce Gardner of Lancaster, and Mr. David D. Gardner of Columbia.

Matthews, Charles Reid
LANCASTER -- Mr. Charles Reid Matthews, Jr., 65, of Lancaster, SC, died Friday, March 30, 2001 at his home.
Mr. Matthews was born April 30, 1935 in Charlotte, North Carolina, a son of the late Charles Reid Matthews, Sr. and Mable Sullivan Matthews. He had worked with Fort James Corporation for forty-one year before his retirement in 1999. He was an active member of Independent Bible Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, Sunday School teacher, church clerk and was a guitarist.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Matthews will be held 11:00 AM Sunday, April 1, 2001 at Independent Bible Baptist Church with his Pastor and brother-in-law The Reverend Jason Coley, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Matthews family will greet friends Saturday evening at the church from 6:00 PM until 8:30 PM.
Mr. Matthews is survived by his beloved wife, of 39 years, Mrs. Betty Coley Matthews; son, Robert Reid Matthews of Lancaster; daughter, Rachel Ellen Matthews of Lancaster; sister, Mrs. Faye Bradshaw of McBee, SC; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Watson was a retired carpenter and a veteran of the United States Army. Mrs. Bollinger was born on Nov. 18, 1913 in Burke County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Able and Ida Cook Hilderbrand; husband, Arey Co. Bollinger; daughter, Lillian Phillips; and a grandson, Steve Phillips. She was a retired textile worker.
Survivors include four sons, Grayton Bollinger of Kings Mountain, Floyd Bollinger and Larry Bollinger of Lincolnton, and Edward Bollinger of Cherryville; two daughters, Shirley Bourne of Bessemer City and Pearl Woodby of Iron Station; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and eight step-grandchildren.
