Paul William Hendrix
MOCKSVILLE - The funeral will be held Wednesday for Paul William Hendrix, 80, of North Main Street, who died Monday (Aug. 23, 1999) at his home.
Born Oct. 12, 1918, in Davie County, he was a son of the late Charlie A. and Myrtle Sain Hendrix. A self-employed brick mason, he was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include wife Dorothy Grubbs Hendrix; and brothers Thomas A. and Richard L. Hendrix, both of Advance.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Eaton Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Bill Davis. Burial in Eaton Baptist Church cemetery.
Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Nell Rash Day
MOCKSVILLE - The funeral will be held Wednesday for Nell Rash Day, 92, of Sunset Drive, who died Sunday (Aug. 22, 1999) at Lexington Health Care in Lexington.
Born April 24, 1907, in Wilkes County, she was a daughter of the late W. F. and Margaret Myers Rash. A graduate of Appalachian State University, she taught school in Wilkes, Davie and Yadkin counties. Following her retirement, she tutored children and adults in reading as a volunteer. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
A daughter, Ann Day Stoner, preceded her in death.
Survivors include son Billy Burris Day, Beaverdam, Va.; daughter Mrs. Bill (Brenda) Harpe, Mocksville; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Eaton Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Bill Davis and the Rev. John D. Shore. Burial in Rose Cemetery.
Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Bobby Edward Mesimer
The funeral will be Wednesday for Bobby Edward Mesimer, 62, 420 Hallmark Circle, who died Sunday (Aug. 22, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 29, 1936, in Salisbury, Mr. Mesimer was a son of the late Grady F. and Virginia Lowery Mesimer. Educated in the Salisbury schools, he was a 1955 graduate of Boyden High School and a 1959 graduate of Catawba College. A chef, he had worked at the Salisbury Holiday Inn, Salisbury Country Club, High Rock Boat and Ski Club and the Salisbury Elks Lodge.
He was a member of the Army Reserve 991st Transportation Division when it was activated for the Cuban missile crisis. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Salisbury Moose Lodge 900 and Amvets.
Survivors include son Dallas Davidson Mesimer, of the home; daughter Amy M. Lamb, Salisbury; half brother William “Billy” Mesimer, Marietta, Ga.; sister Mrs. Lloyd (Laura) Kennington, Salisbury; and three grandchildren.
Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Summersett Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Carroll L. Robinson, minister, Lebanon Lutheran Church.
Visitation: 7-8: 30 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of his daughter, Amy M. Lamb, 460 Freedom Drive.

Cora Belle Ervin Smith
MOUNT ULLA — Cora Belle Ervin Smith, 82, 8950 Fannie Sloan Road, died Monday (Aug. 23, 1999) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
Born Dec. 5, 1916, in Rowan County, Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late Thomas Monroe and Fronie Krider Ervin. Educated at Farm Life High School, China Grove, she had retired from Cannon Mills.
She was a member of Thyatira Presbyterian Church, where she was active in the Caldwell Sunday School Class and the Morning Circle of Church Women. She was also a member of the Mill Bridge Senior Citizens and Eastern Star No. 277 of China Grove.
Survivors include husband Ralph Eugene Smith, whom she married Jan. 25, 1935; son Tom E. Smith, Salisbury; daughter Mrs. Ronald (Brenda) Seamon, China Grove; sisters Mrs. Roger (Lorene) Clary and Mrs. John (Margaret) Beaver, both of Mount Ulla, Mrs. Fred (Frances) Graham, Newman, Ga., Evelyn Webb, Chattanooga, Tenn., Peggy Ballew, Milledgeville, Ga., and Mrs. John (Barbara) Hill, Salisbury; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Thyatira Presbyterian Church at Mill Bridge, conducted by Dr. Stephen A. Moss. Burial, church cemetery.

Gelene Hutchins Ashley
KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Wednesday for Faye Gelene Hutchins Ashley, 64, 1819 Colony Drive, who died at her home Sunday (Aug. 22, 1999) after a battle with cancer. She had been in declining health for two years and seriously ill for three months.
Born Jan. 17, 1935, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Ashley was a daughter of the late Floyd Wilson and Edna Emerson Hutchins. A graduate of A.L. Brown High School and High Point College, she was an elementary school teacher in the Kannapolis schools for 31 years. She was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was active with the United Methodist Women and taught Sunday school for many years.
Survivors include her husband of 43 years, William Paul “Bill” Ashley; son Chris Ashley, Concord; daughter Mrs. Ed (Anne) Dehlin, Kannapolis; half sister Mary Frances Guffey, Clemmons; and two grandsons.
Services: 4 p.m. Wednesday, Trinity United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Don Shuman and Sarah Weaver. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Foy Lentz Deal
KANNAPOLIS — Foy Lentz Deal, 72, 1126 Mooresville Road, died Monday (Aug. 23, 1999) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born July 14, 1927, in Iredell County, Mr. Deal was a son of the late Ernest Linwood and Rena Overcash Deal. A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he served in the Korean War. Retired after 37 years with Duke Power Co., he was a member of St. Enoch Lutheran Church and the Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include wife Adell Marshall Deal.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Hoke Ritchie. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Savannah Earnhardt
THOMASVILLE — Savannah Michelle Earnhardt, daughter of Adam and Stacy Brown Earnhardt, died Monday (Aug. 23, 1999) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
The infant, who was born July 6, 1999, in Davidson County, was the paternal granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fidel Camarillo of Salisbury.
Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Wednesday, Free Pilgrim Church cemetery.
Visitation: 7-9 tonight, J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home at 17 Misty Drive.
Howard Lee Crenshaw
NEW LONDON — The funeral will be today for John Howard Lee Crenshaw, 63, 44097 Ski Pond Road, who died Sunday (Aug. 22, 1999) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after a lengthy illness.
Born Feb. 11, 1936, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Crenshaw was a son of Grace Tickle Crenshaw, Winston-Salem, and the late Charles Frank Crenshaw. He lived in Concord prior to moving to New London after his 1988 retirement from Fieldcrest Cannon, Plant 4, where he was a loom fixer.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife of 35 years, Donnie Hatley Crenshaw; daughter Angela Pitcher, New London; and sister Charlotte Crenshaw Rasey, Winston-Salem.
Services: 2: 30 p.m. Tuesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, Kannapolis, conducted by his brother-in-law, the Rev. John Rasey. Burial, Center Grove Lutheran Church Cemetery, Kannapolis.

Sandra Mars Robinson
HENDERSON — Sandra Mars Robinson, 46, 8237 Highway 39 South, a former area resident, died of leukemia Sunday (Aug. 22, 1999) at Duke University Medical Center, Durham.
Born in the Phillipine Islands, Mrs. Robinson was a daughter of Joe and Mary Jane Tucker Conner of Roanoke Rapids and the late Grady B. Mars. She was employed by Revlon Inc.
Her first husband, Henry O’Keil, preceded her in death.
Survivors, in addition to her mother and stepfather, include husband Henry Michael “Mike” Robinson; son Phillip Jackson, Salisbury; daughter Tammy Robinson; stepsons Michael Robinson Jr. and Joseph Robinson; brother Harry Younkin; and sisters Mrs. Charles (Elizabeth) Greenway, Epsom, and Mrs. Charles (Joyce) Burnette and Mrs. Ricky (Priscilla) Dorer, both of Roanoke Rapids.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Flowers Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Jeff Prewer. Burial, Sunset Gardens.

Raymond L. Kirk Jr.
Raymond L. Kirk Jr., 52, died Sunday (Aug. 22, 1999) at his home in Los Angeles, Calif.
A Salisbury native, Mr. Kirk was a son of the late Raymond L. and Lois Finney Kirk. He was a 1965 Salisbury High School graduate.
He has lived in Los Angeles since 1970. A poet and artist, he won first place in the 1991 Atlanta Writing Resource Center’s poetry contest. Several of his poems were published in magazines and journals.
Survivors include sister Dorothy Kirk, Palm Desert, Calif.
