Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth M.K. Martin, 90, of 300 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC died on Monday, August 7, 2000 at Presbyterian Hospital. Grier funeral service is serving the family of Mrs. Martin.

Menane, Linda R.
Miss Linda R. Menane, 40, of Charlotte, NC, died Monday, August 7, 2000.

Miss Menane was born in Spokane, WA a daughter of the late Reynold Irving Menane and Geraldine McKenney Menane. Miss Menane was employed by SET.

Survivors include her step-father, John R. Zachary, of Charlotte; 3 brothers, Kim Menane, of Spokane, WA, Ricky Menane, of Charlotte, NC and Kerry Menane, of Thomasville, NC; 3 sisters, Wendy Jarchow, of Cheney, WA, Jill Sherrod, of Goldsboro, NC and Brenda Abbotts, of Charlotte.

Services will be conducted from the graveside at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 10, 2000 at Sharon Memorial Park by the Reverend Larry Watts. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday at 8223 Larkhaven Road.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Residential Support Services, 5601 Executive Center Drive, Suite 201, Charlotte, NC 28212.

Norton, William Randolph
William Randolph Norton, 93, died August 6, 2000 at 733 Plantation Estates Drive in Matthews, North Carolina. Born 1906, in Delaville, Va. on the Chesapeake Bay, one of twelve children, he went inland by train for the first time when he left for Lynchburg College where he received his B.A. After earning his M.A. at Duke University, he became high school principal in Raleigh County, W.Va., and subsequently reporter, columnist, then editor of The Raleigh Register in Beckley W.Va. From 1947 until retirement in 1972, he worked at The Charlotte Observer as reporter, editorial writer, managing editor, and public service director.

A longtime elder at Sardis Presbyterian Church, he was moderator of Mecklenburg Presbytery, member of N.C. Presbyterian Synod's Coordinating Council, chairman of Presbytery's Research and Strategy Committee, member of Presbyterian Survey board of directors, chairman of Presbytery's New Church Development, chairman of Sardis Planning and Research Committee, Sunday School teacher, president of Piedmont Area Development Association, and vice president of Golden K. Kiwanis Club.

married for sixty-six years to Martha Hunter Hood Norton, he is survived by her, and by a daughter Mary Norton Kratt and son-in-law Emil F. (Jim) Kratt of Charlotte; a brother, Dick Norton of Richmond, Va.; grandchildren Bill and Cathy Kratt of Raleigh; Laura Kratt of Columbus, Ga.; Hunter Kratt of Florence, Mass; and two great-grandsons.

Ran Norton had a lifelong loyalty to family and church. He tended an extensive garden through his 91st year, and loved the Chesapeake Bay where he fished throughout his life. He wrote a book, "Old Days on the Chesapeake and in Deltaville, Virginia" about an early twentieth-century Tidewater fishing village. Always a newspaperman and teacher, he was genuinely interested in every person he met, continually personable, inquisitive, and an active promoter of causes. He was an optimist, a problem solver, and helper of others. Always, he persevered.

Memorials can be sent to the Carolinas ALS Endowment, c/o Carolins Health Care Foundaation, PO Box 32861, Charlotte, NC 28232-2861 (for Lou Gehrig's disease research and care). A memorial service will be held at Sardis Presbyterian Church at 11 AM Saturday, August 12, where the family will greet friends afterward in the foyer.

Thomas, Floyd
Mr. Floyd Thomas, Jr. of Charlotte, died Aug. 4. Funeral Services, 4 PM Thurs., Aug. 10, 2000 Christopher King's F.H. Burial at Christian Home Bapt. Ch. Charity Rd. Cem. Visitation: Mrs. Carrie Carter Thomas, 214 Peyton St., Chester, SC.

Welch, Billy Cecil
Mr. Billy Cecil Welch, age 59, died August 6, 2000 in Cleveland County, NC.

He was born December 16, 1940 in Charlotte and was associated with Lassiter Well Drilling Company.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Thursday at McEwen Charlotte Chapel with Reverend Gary Patterson officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. Visitation will 7-9 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. He was interested in C.B. Radio and went by the title of "Apple Core." His hobby was restoring antique cars and fishing.

Surviving are his mother, Pearl Hensley Welch; sister, Teresa Welch of Alexandria, VA; brothers, Bobby Welch and wife, Jeanette of Charlotte, Jackie Welch and wife, Paulette of Lincoln County, NC, Mike Welch and wife, Shirley of Huntersville, NC, Steve Welch and Ray Welch, both of Charlotte. He was preceded in death by his father, Berlin George Welch and a brother, Jimmy Welch.

Arrangements by McEwen Charlotte Chapel.

Wilhelm, James McDonald
Mr. James McDonald Wilhelm, 76, of Charlotte, NC died Monday, August 7, 2000 at Huntersville Oaks Nursing Home.

"Don" Wilhelm was born in Charlotte, December 19, 1923, son of William Francis Wilhelm and Cleo Turbeville Wilhelm. After graduating from Central High School in 1941, Mr. Wilhelm attended North Carolina State University before serving his country in the Army Air Force during World War II overseas.

Don Wilhelm began his business career with Belk Stores Service in Charlotte. He served as Assistant Manager of the Belk Store in Thomasville, GA. and Asheville, NC before becoming Store Manager of Belk-Lindsey in Fort Myers, FL. Belk of Granite Falls, SC, and Martin's Department Store of Charlotte. After retiring from Belk, Mr. Wilhelm owned and operated a very successful waste disposal company in Charlotte.

Mr. Wilhelm was an active member of the Youth Department at Myers Park Presbyterian Church and attended Mouzon United Methodist Church of Charlotte before the time of his death.

A graveside service to celebrate Mr. Wilhelm's life will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, August 9, 2000 at Elmwood Cemetery.

Harry and Bryant Company is in charge of the arrangements.

Williams, Stanford Lee `Bob`
Mr. Stanford Lee `Bob` Williams, 61, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, August 9, 2000. He was co-owner of Auto Inspections, Inc. in Huntersville. Arrangements are incomplete. Raymer Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. Williams.

Lambert, Robert Ernest
ALBEMARLE - Mr. Robert Ernest Lambert, 75, of 1208 Pennington Road, Albemarle, NC died Tuesday, August 8, 2000 at Broughton Hospital. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Thursday, August 10, 2000 at Lakeview Baptist Church, with Rev. Tab Whitley officiating. Burial will be in Stanly Gardens of Memory, Albemarle, NC, with Military Rites by Albemarle-Stanly County DAV. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM this evening (Wednesday) at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle.

Mr. Lambert was born May 17, 1925, a native of Stanly County, NC, son of the late Emma Hunecutt Lambert and Eli Marion Lambert. He was a US Navy veteran; Sheet Metal Worker with Lorch Plumbing & Heating Company; and member of Lakeview Baptist Church.

Surviving him are his wife, Doris Louise Andrews Lambert, of the home; son, Bill of Milton, DE; and sister, Zora Mae Almond of Albemarle, NC.

The family will be at the home of 1208 Pennington Road, Albemarle, NC.

Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle is serving the Lambert family.

Morgan, Homer Lane
ALBEMARLE - Mr. Homer Lane Morgan, age 73 of 1807 Polk Ford Road, Stanfield, NC died Tuesday, August 8 2000 at Britthaven of Piedmont, Albemarle, N.C.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM Thursday, August 10, 2000 at Kinza Memorial Baptist Church in Stanfield, N.C. with Pastors Tom Ziegler, Sam Hopkins and Bobby Mowery officiating. Interment at the church cemetery. Visitation is 7-9 PM Wednesday at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland.

Mr. Morgan was born February 26, 1927 in Stanley County, NC, a son of the late Clyde Morgan and Emma Furr Morgan. He was last employed at Cannon Mills, where he was supervisor. He was a member of Kinza Memorial Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife Laura Williams Morgan.

Survivors include his sons, Donald L. Morgan of Stanfield, NC, Ralph L. Morgan of Stanfield, NC; daughters Mrs. Brenda M. McLaurin of Oakboro, NC; Mrs. Kathryn M. Reames of Stanfield, NC, Mrs. Jo Ann M. Morton of Albemarle, NC; brothers, Eugene Morgan of Locust, NC, Lloyd Morgan of New Jersey; sisters, Mrs. Hazel Barbee of Stanfield, NC; Mrs. Rosanne Parks of Stanfield, NC; 19 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the home: 1807 Polk Ford Rd., Stanfield, N.C.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Stanly County, 960 North First St., Albemarle, NC 28001.

Hill, Elizabeth `Lib`
ASHEBORO - Elizabeth `Lib` Hill, 67, died August 7, 2000. The funeral is Thursday, 11am, at Mt. View Independent Methodist Church. Visitation is Wednesday, from 7-9pm. Arrangements by Ridge Funeral Home.

Rose, Elizabeth Williams Lamb
ATLANTA - Elizabeth Williams Lamb Rose of Atlanta died August 7, 2000 following an extended illness.

Mrs. Rose was born April 22, 1928 in Marion, NC and spent her youth in Charlotte before moving to Atlanta. In 1965, Mrs. Rose married her first husband, Huie Lamb and worked with him in building luxury homes in Atlanta until his death in 1976. Mrs. Rose is survived by her husband of 16 years, Lt. Col. (retired) Jesse Lee Rose. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Dazel Williams of Charlotte and her sisters, Aileen Ponder of Atlanta and and Dazelle Hunter of Charlotte. Mrs. Rose was a member of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church and the DAR.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Rose is survived by her nieces, Aileen Hatcher of Atlanta, Nancy Newman and Elizabeth Newman of Southlake, TX, Michelle Hunter, Catherine Lee and Morgan Lee of Charlotte.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Hospice Atlanta, 1244 Park Vista Drive, 30319.

The family wishes to thank the Special Care section of Brighton Gardens of Vinnings for their love and care over the last year.

A memorial service will be in Atlanta on Sunday, August 13, 2000 at 1 PM at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church with The Rev. Philip Schroeder officiating.

Griffin, Arlene Francis Galazin
BELMONT - Mrs. Arlene Francis Galazin Griffin, 57, of 6422 War Eagle Lane in Charlotte, died on Monday, August 7, 2000 at University Hospital in Charlotte. A native of North Cumberland County, PA, she was the daughter of the late Frank Galazin and Leona Galazin, who survives her.

Mrs. Griffin was a member of Belmont Abbey in Belmont, NC.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Robert R. Griffin; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Sonja Griffin of Columbus, Indiana; two sons, Frank Griffin and Roger Griffin, both of Charlotte. She is survived by a sister, Helen M. Haberberger of Redding, PA and two grandsons, Robert R. Griffin, IV and Theodore Griffin.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2000 at the All Saints Cemetery in Elysburg, PA at 11 AM. The family will receive friends at Lucas Funeral Home, 27 N. Vine Street in Mt. Carmel PA between the hours of 9 and 11 AM on Saturday.

Carothers Funeral Home, Belmont is serving the family of Mrs. Griffin locally.

Monroe, Mary
BISHOPVILLE - Mary Monroe, 83, widow of Roy L. Monroe, died Tuesday, August 8, 2000 at the Presbyterian Home in Summerville.

Born in Monroe, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Harvey A. and Thea Lowery Monroe.

Mrs. Monroe was a member of Bishopville Presbyterian Church and a retired bookkeeper for Clanton Auto Auction Company.

Survivors include three sons, Steve Monroe and Mike Monroe both of Bishopville and Bob Monroe of Brunson, SC; two daughters, Pat Fields of Spartanburg and Margaret Hicks of Hendersonville, NC; two sisters, Etta Broome of Monroe, NC and Evelyn McCorkle of Charlotte, NC; two brothers, Ward Rummage and Donald Rummage both of Monroe, NC; 10 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 10 AM Thursday at Lakeland Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, NC.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at the Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home and other times at 609 Law St., Bishopville.

Memorials may be made to Bishopville Presbyterian Church or to the Presbyterian Homes of South Carolina.

Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mitchell, Teresa Diane Vickers
BLACKSBURG - Teresa Diane Vickers Mitchell, 40, died August 5. A Graveside service will be held Wednesday, 1pm, at Hillcrest Gardens. Visitation was Tuesday at Carothers Funeral Home in Stanley; also serving the Mitchell family.

Kennedy, William Taft
CHERAW - William Taft Kennedy, 62, died August 7. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Reid's Funeral Home.
