George Sifford
George Sifford, 66, 1005 Hawkinstown Road, died Wednesday (Aug. 18, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a year of declining health and two weeks of serious illness.
Born April 21, 1933, in Rowan County, Mr. Sifford was a son of Rosa Rice Sifford, Salisbury, and the late Jessie “Jake” Sifford. Educated in the Rowan County schools, he had retired from Crescent Construction Co. He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Boyden Quarters, and the Jubilee Chorus.
Survivors include son Willie Thomas Mitchell, Salisbury; daughters Linda Wilson, Winville, Mo., and Sylvia Brawley, Mount Ulla; brother John W. Sifford, Salisbury; sister Carolyn Sifford Lyons, Temple Hills, Md.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was born April 20, 1933. Mr. Sifford was a former member of the Jubilee Chorus of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Boyden Quarters.
Survivors include stepson Willie Thomas Mitchell, Salisbury.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Mount Zion Baptist Church, Boyden Quarters, conducted by the Rev. David S. Houston. Burial, church cemetery.
Visitation: 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Walter Jim ‘Tex’ Manier
The funeral will be Saturday for Walter Jim “Tex” Manier, 54, 520 Morelock Lane, Chuckey, Tenn., who died Monday (Aug. 8, 1999) as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Mabton, Wash.
Born May 11, 1945, in Sullivan County, Tenn., Mr. Manier was a son of the late Walter L. and Willa Hortence Morelock Manier. Employed in the construction business since the age of 15, he had been affiliated with Commercial Contracting, Troy; SIC, Raleigh; American Floating Glass, Kingsport, Tenn.; Cardinal Floating Glass, Mooresville; and Guardian Industries, Detroit, Mich. He was employed at Ranger Plant Construction, Abilene, Texas, at the time of his death.
Survivors include wife Carolyn Davis Manier, who lived in Kannapolis, for a time while taking care of her father; daughter Shane Manier, Kannapolis; sons Scott Goodman, Kannapolis, and Tony Goins, Arrart; brother Billy Aden Manier, Greenville, Tenn.; and one grandson.
Services: Memorial, 2 p.m. Saturday, Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, Kannapolis, N.C., conducted by the Rev. Don Shuman.
Visitation: 1-2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Clyde C. Everhart
LEXINGTON — Clyde Casper Everhart, 84, 2895 Greensboro St., died Wednesday (Aug. 18, 1999) at Sunbridge Nursing Home.
Born April 21, 1915, in Davidson County, Mr. Everhart was a son of the late William Sherman and Sarah Hill Everhart. He had retired after 45 years with Lexington Telephone Co.
A member of Pilgrim United Church of Christ and its Men’s Bible Class, he was a charter member of Triangle Fire Department, where he served as chief for 13 years. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served in the Pacific as an electrician’s mate second class during World War II.
Survivors include wife Virgie Beck Everhart; and son Dr. Hugh Everhart, Lexington.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Pilgrim United Church of Christ, conducted by the Rev. Rosser Clap. Burial, church cemetery. Graveside rites by Davidson County Fireman Honor Guard.
Visitation: 6: 30-8: 30 p.m. Friday, Davidson Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on Greensboro Street Extension.

Major Parks
LEXINGTON — Major Parks, 34, Shannon Drive, died Tuesday (Aug. 17, 1999).
Born Dec. 9, 1964, in Davidson County, Mr. Parks was a son of Jeanette Layton of Lexington. He was employed with Pepsi Cola Co. A U.S. Army veteran, he served as an infantryman and a Ranger with Special Forces.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include wife Theresa Hedrick Parks; ; stepfather Jay Layton, Lexington; and brother Robert Lewis Parks, Lexington.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Hedrick’s Grove United Church of Christ, conducted by the Rev. John Roberts. Burial at church cemetery.
Visitation: 6: 30-8: 30 tonight, Davidson Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on Shannon Drive.
Jodie Rogers Morales
KANNAPOLIS — Jodie Louise Rogers Morales, 81, 628-B Oval St., died Thursday (Aug. 19, 1999) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born July 1, 1918, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Morales was a daughter of the late Joe and Ula Stallings Rogers. Formerly employed by Cannon Mills and Corriher Mills, she had retired in 1989. She was of the Church of God faith.
He husband, Victor M. Morales, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters Vickie Gulledge, Lydia Watson and Carmen Weaver, all of Kannapolis; sister Minnie Euart, Faith; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Andrew Ball. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Martin Smith
ROCKWELL - Martin Smith, 67, 504 Depot St., died Thursday (Aug. 19, 1999) at the Hefner VA Medical Center, Salisbury, after four years of declining health and three months of serious illness.
Born Aug. 30, 1931, in Rowan County, Mr. Smith was a son of the late Mary Eliza Smith and Martin Eddleman. Educated in the Rowan County schools, he had retired from Cone Mills and Rustin Furniture Co. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Smith was a member of St. Matthew’s Baptist Church, where he was chairman of the trustee board.
Survivors include wife Juanita A. Smith; sons Darrell T. and Bryon K. Smith, both of Salisbury; daughter Martina D. Corpening, Granite Quarry; and five grandchildren.
Services: 12: 30 p.m. Monday, St. Matthew’s Baptist Church, Rockwell, conducted by the Rev. David S. Houston. Burial, Salisbury National Cemetery. military rites will be conducted by Salisbury Rowan Veterans Council.

Viola Hargrave Dixon
Viola Elaine Hargrave Dixon, 417 Willow Road, died Friday (Aug. 20, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury after three years of declining health.
Mrs. Dixon was a daughter of the late and the Rev. Harold Mauney and Willie Mae Holt Hargrave. A graduate of J.C. Price High School, she received her bachelor’s degree from Livingstone College and a master of education degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She also received state teacher certification in primary education.
Mrs. Dixon had retired after 30 years with the Rowan-Salisbury school system. She had taught at Overton Elementary School, Monroe Street School and Henderson Elementary School. She also worked with Upward Bound at Livingstone College and the AKA Summer Reading Program. She was coordinator for Kiwanis Summer Camp and a team member to the National Workshop in Learning Disabilities in Kansas City, Mo.
A member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Mrs. Dixon was a former member of the senior choir, the Nominations Committee and the United Presbyterian Women. She was also a member of the J.P. Johnson Memorial Society, the Ecunenical Choral Society, the Livingstone Alumni Choir and Trio, Delta XI Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and the Classroom Teachers Association. She was a former secretary of the North Carolina Teachers Association and a past president of the North Carolina Association of Educators.
Survivors include husband Wilford G. “Baby” Dixon; son Timothy M. “Tim” Dixon, Salisbury; daughters Tonette V. Dixon-Mack, Florence, S.C., and Tanya H. Dixon-Neely, Salisbury; brothers Michael “Mervyn” Hargrave, Hollis, Long Island, N.Y., and the Rev. William H. Hargrave, Englewood, N.J.; sisters Thenya H. Torrence, Lexington, Katherine H. Maxwell, Hollis, Long Island, N.Y., Haroldyne F. Hargrave, North Brunswick, N.J., and Lottye H. Reid, Lakewood, N.J.; and five grandchildren.

Cora Jones Fleming
WOODLEAF - Cora Jones Fleming, 50, 7720 Woodleaf Road, died Friday (Aug. 20, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, after 19 months of serious illness.
Born Aug. 20, 1949, in Warren County, she was a daughter of Annie Allen and Nathaniel Jones, both of Norlina. Mrs. Fleming was a graduate of John R. Hawkins High School in Warrenton and Winston-Salem State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education.
She taught three years at Northside Elementary School in Warren County and 24 years at Faith Elementary School, Faith. Amember of Jones Chapel Church, Ridgeway, she was a NCAE representative for one year. She also served on the parent-teacher advisory council of Woodleaf Elementary School.
Survivors include husband Clement B. Fleming; sons Jeffery L. Fleming, Greensboro, Joel B. Fleming, Asheville, and Jared A. Fleming, of the home; brothers Nathaniel Jones Jr., Norlina, and Martin Jones, Henderson; and sisters Miriam Vann, Henderson and Garcia Lane Jones, Winston-Salem.

Dr. J Henry Smith Foushee
Dr. J Henry Smith Foushee, 76, Winston-Salem, formerly of Salisbury, died Thursday (Aug. 19, 1999) at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte.
Born Aug. 13, 1923, in Salisbury, Dr. Foushee was a son of the late Nellie Pearson and J Henry Smith Foushee. Educated in the Salisbury schools, he attended Catawba College. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and then attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia.
A U.S. Air Force physician during the Korean War, Dr. Foushee served on the faculty of Bowman Gray Medical School in Winston-Salem for 16 years. In 1970 he formed his own laboratory and became chief pathologist for Medical Park Hospital, Winston-Salem. He retired in 1995.
He was also a physician’s consultant for the Salisbury VA Medical Center. Dr. Foushee was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Winston-Salem, and the Forsyth County, N.C. and American medical associations.
Survivors include wife Elizabeth Campbell Foushee, whom he married in 1951; son Smith Foushee III, Charlotte; daughter Elizabeth Cunningham, Charlotte; and four grandchildren.
Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Monday, Chestnut Hill Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Frank E. McKenzie. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, First Presbyterian Church of Winston-Salem.
Visitation: The family will see friends following the service at the cemetery.
