Qutah Farless Joyner
MOCKSVILLE — The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday for Qutah Farless Joyner, 71, of Duke Whitaker Road, who died Friday (Aug. 13, 1999) at Davie County Hospital.
Born Aug. 26, 1927, in Albuquerque, N.M., Mrs. Joyner was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Vernon Farless.
Mrs. Joyner retired in 1997 as a licensed practical nurse at Davie County Hospital, after 25 years of service. She was a member of Zion Chapel United Methodist Church and the Nursing Association.
Survivors include her husband, Cleveland A. Joyner; two sons, William A. Joyner and Cleveland H. Joyner, both of Mocksville; three daughters, Lynda Joyner Wallace, Mocksville, Barbara Ann Snider, Lewisville, and Iven Maurice McDaniel, Statesville; a sister, Dell Fields, Owensboro, Ky.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, New Union United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Billie Jarrett and the Rev. Caren Morgan. Burial, Zion Chapel United Methodist Church.
Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Davie Funeral Service Chapel, 416 Valley Road.
Stonewall J. Peninger
Stonewall Jackson Peninger Jr., 82, of 128 McCoy Road, died Saturday (Aug. 14, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health.
Born March 24, 1917, in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Stonewall Jackson and Cordie Kennerly Peninger.
Educated in Salisbury City Schools, Mr. Peninger retired from the Coca-Cola Bottling Co. in Charlotte after 41 years of service and was a life-long member of North Main Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Moose Peninger, to whom he was married for 61 years on July 24, 1999; a daughter, Suzanne Peninger Lynch, Winston-Salem; a son, Robert Christopher Peninger, Salisbury; and a sister, Mrs. Kenneth Powell, Salisbury.
Services: The body was cremated, and a private graveside service will be held at a later date.

Ray Von Hahn
ALBEMARLE — Ray Von Hahn, 65, 613 Brown Ave., died Saturday (Aug. 14, 1999) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 31, 1933, in Stanly County, Mr. Hahn was the son of the late Richard Bascom and Lillie McDonald Hahn.
Mr. Hahn was the owner-operator of Five Points Tire Center and was last employed by Michelin Aircraft Tire Corp. before retiring as a material handler. Mr. Hahn served in the U.S. Navy for four years and was a member of Poplin Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Whitley Hahn, and a son, David Ray Hahn, Albemarle.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, South Albemarle Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Jon Hoey and the Rev. Jessie Dennis. Burial, Stanly Gardens of Memory, with military rites by the Stanly County DAV.
Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. At other times, the family will at the home.

Juanita Morrow Bolick
MOORESVILLE — Juanita Lyon Morrow Bolick, 73, of West Park Avenue, died Saturday (Aug. 14, 1999) at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.
Born July 20, 1926 in Iredell County, Mrs. Bolick was the daughter of Roosevelt Lyon, of Gastonia, and the late Delia Sipes Lyon Ray. She attended Brawley High School and last worked as an inspector at General Times in Davidson.
In addition to her father, survivors her step-mother, Mary Lyon, Gastonia; a daughter, Cheryl Morrow Clodfelter, Charlotte; two sisters, Polly L. King, Mooresville, and Joy L. Childers, Gastonia; three brothers, L.P. Lyon, Kannapolis, and Robert Lyon and Tommy Lyon, both of Gastonia; and a half-sister, Joan Ray Putnam, Rockwell.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Cavin Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Harold King and the Rev. Charles Patton. Burial, Glenwood Memorial Park.

Anthony Glenn Andrews
Visitation will be Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. for the family of Anthony Glenn Andrews, 34, of Salisbury, who died Friday (Aug. 13, 1999) at Iredell Memorial Hospital after a period of declining health.
Born Oct. 27, 1964, in Rowan County, Mr. Andrews was the son of Edward and JoAnn Mewbourne Andrews of Salisbury.
He attended North Rowan High School and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Spencer.
Mr. Andrews is survived by his parents and a sister, Angel A. Hamby, of Salisbury.
No service is planned.
Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17 at Summersett Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home.

John Calvin Kiger
John Calvin Kiger, 62, of Charleston, S.C., formerly of Salisbury, died Friday (Aug. 13, 1999) at his residence.
Born May 25, 1937, in Winston-Salem, Mr. Kiger was a son of the late Ruth Elizabeth Kimball Kiger and Paul Augustus Kiger Sr.
Educated in Salisbury City schools, Mr. Kiger was a graduate of Boyden High School and Catawaba College. He received his MBA from Western Carolina University.
Employed with Southern Railway and Norfolk Southern Corp. for 32 years, he worked in Salisbury, Asheville, Savannah, Ga., and, most recently, Norfolk, Va. where he was manager of claims litigation. He retired to Charleston in 1996.
Mr. Kiger was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Charleston and the Crowfield Golf and Country Club.
Survivors include his wife, Beth Swicegood Kiger; two sons John Kippland Kiger and Frederick Blake Kiger, both of Charlotte; his twin brother, Thomas Kimball Kiger, Salisbury; and two grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. Richard R. Campbell, pastor of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Charleston. Burial, Sandy Creek Cemetery of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Tyro.
Visitation: 5-7 tonight, Summersett Funeral Home, Salisbury. At other times the family will be at the home of Mrs. Kiger’s mother, Edna Swicegood, of Tyro.

Kemp Alexander Clayton
NEW LONDON - Kemp Alexander Clayton, 63, of 36928-B Carter Road, died Friday (Aug. 13, 1999) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.
Born May 5, 1936, in Stanly County, Mr. Clayton was a son of the late John Nelson and Ruth Huneycutt Clayton. Mr. Clayton retired from the U.S. Air Force with 20 years of service and retired from the N.C. Department of Correction with 22 years of service.
He was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church and was a Mason and member of Stanly Lodge No. 348.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Warfford Clayton; sons Jeffrey Kemp Clayton, Rock Hill, and Gregory Alan Clayton, Apex; step-daughter Mrs. Donnie “Libby” Gordon, Asheboro; brother Harold Clayton, Kitty Hawk; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Lakeview Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Tab Whitley. Burial, Stanly Gardens of Memory, with full military rites by the Stanly County DAV Ritual Team.
Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Stanly Funeral Home. The body will lie in state in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.

Jerry L. Pethel
KANNAPOLIS — Jerry L. Pethel, 63, Kannapolis, died Tuesday (Aug. 17, 1999) at his home after four months of serious illness.
Born Nov. 3, 1935, in Rowan County, Mr. Pethel was a son of the late Harry Wertz and Ethel Goss Pethel. A member of Landis Baptist Church, Landis, he owned and operated Pethel’s Used Cars for 45 years.
His first wife, Helen Ann Huckabee Pethel, died in 1968.
Survivors include wife Kay Helms Pethel; son Darvin D. Pethel, China Grove; daughter Tammy A. Pethel, Concord; stepdaughters Eva Clanton and Martha Hardin, both of Kannapolis; brothers Harry Pethel Jr., Baltimore, and Frank Pethel, Kannapolis; sister Patsy Gail Stiller, Salisbury; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services: 3 p.m. Friday, Landis Baptist Church, Landis, conducted by the Rev. Billy Honeycutt and the Rev. Bruce Graham. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Elizabeth Walser Head
COOLEEMEE — The funeral will be Friday for Laura Elizabeth Walser Head, 91, Duke Street, who died Tuesday (Aug. 17, 1999) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation, Salisbury.
Born Oct. 10, 1907, in Davidson County, Mrs. Head was a daughter of Mary Hege and William Arthur Walser. Retired from Burlington Industries, she was a member of Cooleemee Senior Citizens and First Baptist Church of Cooleemee, where she attended the Elizabeth Overcash Sunday School Class.
Her husband, Luther Head, died in 1978.
Survivors include brothers Coy Walser, Churchland, and Donald Walser, Spencer; sisters Doris Bass, Salisbury, and Mary Young, Churchland; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Eaton Funeral Home Chapel, Mocksville, conducted by the Rev. Jeff Pennington. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Mary Neal Pridgen
Mary Neal Pridgen, 78, 380 E. Ridge Road, died Wednesday (Aug. 18, 1999) at her home.
Born Jan. 23, 1921, in Richmond County, Mrs. Pridgen was a daughter of the late Phillip D. and Susan Reynolds Meacham. A homemaker, she was a raduate of A.L. Brown High School, Kannapolis. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Salisbury.
Her husband, Forest Pridgen, died in 1981.
Survivors include son Thomas E. Pridgen, Topsail Beach; daughter Suzanne P. Thibodeau, Salisbury; brother Phil Meacham, Kannapolis; sisters Mrs. Carl (Betty) Spry, Kannapolis, and Mrs. Bill (Marjorie) Mansfield, Tallahassee, Fla.; two grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and five step-great-grandchildren.
Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Saturday, Rowan Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Bill Adams.
