Laurinburg, NC - Mrs. Faye Evans Harris Cashwell, 87, of 719 S. Pine Street died Friday, September 9, after a four-month battle with lung cancer.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Central United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. Quinton Covington. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Katherine Quick Evans; a nephew, Tommy Evans and wife, Naomi of Laurinburg, nieces, Betty McLaurin of Laurinburg, Cathy Stuckey and husband, Mike of Knighdale, Janet Norris and husband, Ricky of Four Oaks, and Jenny Evans of Benson; Other surviving family includes step-daughter, Virginia Graham, Step-daughter-in-law, Dottie Hargrove, step-grandchildren, Tammy St. Clair, Tommy Hargrove, and Cara Usitynski; and seven step-great grandchildren all of New York. She is also survived by a special friend, Carlene Hardee.
Born December 10, 1917 near Ash in Brunswick County, she was the daughter of the late Luther and Brosia Smith Evans. Until her recent illness, she was an active member of Central United Methodist Church, the Scotland County Growing Friendship Club, Carolina Tours, and the CUMC Happy Methodists. Since her retirement in 1982 as a supervisor at the Ingraham Clock Plant, she traveled to all 50 states, Nova Scotia, Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and the Panama Canal.
The last surviving member of her immediate family, Faye was preceded in death by brothers, Danvis, Clyde, Everett, Burnie, and Lennis, and sisters, Elva Brady, Smitha Evans, and Alta Mae Whitfield. She was also preceded in death by husbands, Roy Harris, a veteran and former Chief of Police of Laurinburg, Robert 'Leon' Cashwell, formerly of New York, and step-son, Jim Hargrove of New York.
In recent years, she was particularly close with great nephew Jerry Patterson and wife, Denice of Raleigh and great niece Dawn Pressley and husband, Tony of Monroe as well as her great-great nephews, Daniel and Sam Patterson of Raleigh and Evan Pressley of Monroe. Mrs. Cashwell is survived by other nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, and great-great nephews.

Laurinburg - Mr. John Thomas McNeill, 70, of Cedar Trace Landing died Thursday, September 15, at Scotland Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Laurinburg Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.
Born August 18, 1935 in Hoke County, he was a son of the late Thomas A. and Nellie McArthur McNeill. He served 6 years in the US Army and was a retired roofing contractor.
He is survived by his wife, Magalene Clark McNeill; a Son, Terry McNeill of Laurinburg; a daughter, Cinday Davis of Laurinburg; a sister, Virginia Hatchett of Ocala, FL; three grandchildren; Quinton Locklear, Blake Davis, and Randi Davis.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. saturday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
Pansy Beacham Brigman

Snead’s Ferry - Mrs. Pansy Beacham Mangum Brigman, 78, of 161 Seabird Lane died Friday, September 16, at New Hanover Hospital in Wilmington.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium Chapel in Laurinburg.
She is survived by her husband, M. B. Brigman; a son, Morris “Max” Mangum and wife, Georgette of Charlotte; two daughters, Susanna Hunley and husband, Harold of Southern Pines and Sharon Monroe of Laurinburg; a sister, Anne Slaughter of Laurinburg; six grandchildren, Morris, Marc, Gerrit, Jennifer, Robbie, and Matthew; and two great grandchildren.
Born March 26, 1927 in Laurinburg, she was a daughter of the late Cleveland and Emma Baldwin Beacham. She was a retired receptionist for Dr. David A. Williams. Pansy was also a skilled craftsperson; making shell Christmas ornaments, angels, scarecrows, and Santa Clauses.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Dr. L. D. Kimrey. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.
She is survived by her son, Herman Benton, Jr. and wife, Irene of Laurinburg; her daughter, Marianne Bardell and husband, Hank of Pinehurst; five grandchildren, Ashley Bland and husband of Sunset Beach, Laura Ellis and husband, Jeff of Pinehurst, JulieAnn Clodfelter and husband, Brian of Pinehurst, Jim Benton and wife, Kathryn of Charlotte, and Ann Gibson and husband John of Laurinburg; and 9 great grandchildren, Ethan Ellis, Aden Ellis, Chad Clodfelter, Mason Clodfelter, Tanner Benton, Laurel Benton, Sam Benton, Chase Gibson, and Brett Gibson.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Eugene “Gene” Sligh; a daughter, Betty Leviner and husband, Mickey of Florence, SC; a son, Mac Sligh of Jacksonville; four grandchildren, Jamie Leviner, Emily Leviner, Cal Sligh and Margaret Sligh. She was predeceased by a son, Charles E. “Chuck” Sligh.
Born April 7, 1921 in McColl, SC, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Brown and Mary Elizabeth Bundy McCallum. She was the retired secretary for the First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the JOY Sunday school class and JOY Club. Mary was also a member of Scotch Gardeners, a life member of NC Extension Homemakers, past president and member of the Young at Heart Senior Citizens, was past chairperson of the NC Association of Senior Citizens; and a recipient of the Outstanding Senior Citizen Award from the Laurinburg Jaycees.

Laurinburg, NC - Mr. James Alexander Bracey, 89, of 1705 Anita Drive died Sunday, October 9, at Britthaven of Hamlet.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium Chapel officiated by the Revs. Jim Bumgardner and Mack McMillan. Burial will be in Ashpole Cemetery, Rowland.
He is survived by two sons, Ernest Bracey of La Quinta, CA and Bill Bracey of Brandon, MN; three daughters, Anne Lewellen of Tulsa, OK, Bettie Pope of Martinsville, VA, and Elaine Ferree of Climax; 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Born July 13, 1916 in Robeson County, he was a son of the late James A. and Annie McLean Bracey. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II and a retired civil service employee at Seymour Johnson AFB near Goldsboro. He was also the Past Master of Masonic Lodge #208 AF & AM of Mount Olive.

Maxton - Mr. C. Talmage McQueen, Jr. 76, of 1208 Austin St. died suddenly Friday, September 2, at Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn McIntyre McQueen; three sons, Jesse McQueen and wife, Wanda of Hamlet, Chesley McQueen, III and Danny McQueen of Laurel Hill; a daughter, Terry Ivey and husband, Ronnie of Laurel Hill; a brother, Bill McQueen of Laurel Hill; four grandchildren, Kelly Caulder of Laurel Hill, Jordan McQueen of Laurinburg, Garrett McQueen and Brooks McQueen of Hamlet, a great grandson, Ryley Norton of Laurel Hill.
Born June 16, 1929 in Robeson County, he was a son of the late Chesley T. and Annie Pearl McLean. He was retired from Mohawk Carpets in Dillon, SC. Talmage also enjoyed tending his garden and canning fruits and vegetables. He even worked in his garden on Thursday. He was also a former deacon and elder in the First Presbyterian Church, and along with his daughter became the first father and daughter to serve together as church elders.

Walter Edmond Wenck

He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Norton Wenck; two daughters, Joan Bell of Rocky Mount and Wendy Eileen Wenck of Carrboro; three step-daughters, Martha Breeden, Ruby Shelley and Jo Ann Towery of Laurinburg; one step-son, Woodrow B. Breeden of Laurinburg; one brother, Robert Wenck of Southern Pines; one sister, Betty Jane Hamrick of Clearwater, FL; two grandchildren and nine step-grandchildren; three great grandchildren and eight step-great grandchildren.
Born in Williamsport, PA, he was the son of the late Robert and Ida Pidcoe Wenck. Mr. Wenck was an accountant with Confidential Tax Service and owned and operated Wenck’s Radio and TV service. He was in the US Army, serving in Germany and England.

Martha Jones Pratt

She is survived by two sons, Lindsay Pratt, Jr. and wife, Gabrielle of Pinehurst and John Pratt and wife, Dana of Santa Fe, NM; four grandchildren, Lindsay Page Pratt, III and wife, Addie of Laurinburg, Jennifer Pratt of Myrtle Beach, SC, Mary Feldmeyer and husband, Aaron of Tampa, FL and John Charles Pratt, Jr. of Boulder, CO. She was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Anderson Jones and two sisters, Marion Jones Reaves and Louise Jones Covington.
Born July 30, 1913 in York County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Charles Anderson and Janie Hand Jones and widow of the late Lindsay Page Pratt, Sr. Mrs. Pratt was a graduate of Lees McRae College. She was a member of Stewartsville Baptist Church and a former member of the Madison Ave. Baptist Church in Goldsboro, NC where she worked extensively with the youth. Mrs. Pratt was a member of the Wagram ECA (formerly known as Homemakers) and received the NC Volunteer of the Year Award for her work in getting the eye transplant bill passed through the state legislature. She worked as the office manager of the Tuscarora Council of Boy Scouts in Goldsboro, NC and as the secretary-treasurer of Reaves Engraving. After her retirement she and her husband were among the first residents of Scotia Village.

Laurinburg, NC - Mr. Lewis Willard Bowlin, 81, of 704 Sherbrooke Circle died Tuesday, January 10, at his home.
A graveside service will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
He is survived his wife, Elizabeth Flanagan Bowlin; a daughter, Liz Surface of Laurinburg; a brother, James M. Bowlin of Atlanta. He was preceded in death by his son, Paul R. Bowlin who was killed in Vietnam in 1969.
Born March 6, 1924 in Middleton, Ohio he was a son of the late Lewis W. and Margaret McLaughlin Bowlin. He was a US Marines veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific. He was a retired engraver with the U. S. Treasury Department.
