Ruby Flowe
KANNAPOLIS - Ruby Owensby Flowe, 90, formerly of McKnight Street, died Tuesday (Aug. 10, 1999) at Big Elm Nursing Home.
Born June 10, 1909, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Flowe was a daughter of the late John and Lennie Thornburg Owensby. She retired from Cannon Mills.
Her husband, James A. Flowe, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a niece and three nephews.
Services: Entombment, 11 a.m. Thursday, Carolina Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. James Masters.

Ethel Millner Johnson
The funeral will be Thursday for Ethel Millner Johnson, 87, 403 Vance Ave., who died Monday (Aug. 9, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after eight weeks of serious illness.
Born Sept. 5, 1911, in Halifax County, Va., Mrs. Johnson was a daughter of the late Alex C. and Lou Hannie Robey Millner. A homemaker, she was member of Spruce Street Missionary Baptist Church, Lexington.
A son, Robert Wayne McDaniel, preceded her in death.
Survivors include husband Henry Johnson; daughter Mrs. Clarence (Pencye) Compton, Salisbury; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Spruce Street Missionary Baptist Church, Lexington, conducted by the Rev. Noah Frye, pastor, and the Rev. Cecil Goodman. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park, Salisbury.

Eugene Stephen Kelley, 72, Salisbury, died Tuesday (Aug. 10, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Sarah Kathryn Grubb Scott
SPENCER - Sarah Kathryn Grubb Scott, 84, 1019 Third St., died Tuesday (Aug. 10, 1999) at her home after five years of declining health.
Born May 27, 1915, in Davidson County, Mrs. Scott was a daughter of the late John Ray and Mary Ellen Styers Grubb. Educated in the Spencer schools, she was a 1932 graduate of Spencer High School. She was a homemaker. She had been employed by Rayless Department Store and numerous other department stores prior to her 1980 retirement. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Salisbury.
Survivors include husband Robert Lee Scott, whom she married in 1935; son Bobby Gene Scott, Linville; daughter Judy S. Grissom, Salisbury; brother John Ray Grub Jr., Salisbury; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Thursday, Rowan Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Judith L. White, associate pastor, First United Methodist Church, Salisbury.

Robert Maxton Speight
ALBEMARLE - Robert Maxton Speight, 84, 709 N. Fourth St., died Tuesday (Aug. 10, 1999) at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte.
Born Oct. 14, 1914, in Stanly County, Mr. Speight was a son of the late Daniel Solomon and Mary Katherine Eudy Speight. A member of Fairview Baptist Church, he retired from Wiscassett Mill Co.
His wife, Ramelle Corriher Speight, preceded him in death.
Survivors include sons Clegg Speight, Myrtle Beach, S.C., Robert Speight, Trinity, John Speight, Atlanta, Ga., and Danny Speight, Albemarle; daughters Juanita Wagner, Maryland, and Sheila Moss, Albemarle; sisters Lila Mae Stallings, Albemarle, and Marie Hopkins, Cheraw, S.C.; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Fairview Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Delaine Burris. The body will be placed in the church at 1: 30. Burial, Fairview Memorial Park.

Jimmie Wesley Morris
GOLD HILL — The funeral will be Friday for Jimmie Wesley Morris, 39, Mooresville, formerly of Gold Hill, who died Tuesday (Aug. 10, 1999) at his home.
Born Aug. 15, 1959, in Rowan County, Mr. Morris was a son of former Salisbury residents Jeanette Hammand James Morris, both of Marion and St. Petersburg, Fla. He was educated in the Rowan County and Fernindina Beach, Fla., schools.
Employed by Alcar Constructors Inc. in Concord, he was a welder for Stalite of Gold Hill for many years. He was a member of Richfield Baptist Church and a former member of Gold Hill Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include daughter Shannon Nicole Morris, Mount Pleasant; brothers Dallas Morris, Keystone Heights, Fla., and Pete Morris, Salisbury; and sister Sonya Smith, Fernindina Beach, Fla.
Services: 3 p.m. Friday, Lyerly Funeral Home’s James C. Lyerly Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Eugene Carroll, pastor, Richfield Baptist Church. Burial, Brookhill Memorial Gardens, Rockwell.

Henry Burnes Cashion
MOORESVILLE — Henry Burnes Cashion, 87, 1107 Shears Road, died Tuesday (Aug. 10, 1999) at Iredell Memorial Hospital, Statesville.
Born May 13, 1912, in Iredell County, Mr. Cashion was a son of the late Henry C. and Daisy Lambert Cashion. Retired from Wells-Fargo, he had worked for Smith’s Taxi for 20 years.
A son, Billy Cashion, died in 1949.
Survivors include wife Edna Bell Pope Cashion; sons Rayvon and Gene Cashion, both of Statesville; daughters Mrs. George (Carolyn)Floyd, Tillman, S.C., Mrs. Jimmy (Doris) Sherrill, Mooresville, and Mrs. Stephen (Kathy) Burdette, Kernersville; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mary Beaver Johnson
LANDIS — The funeral will be Friday for Mary Elizabeth Beaver Johnson, 91, 411 S. Beaver St., who died Tuesday (Aug. 10, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born Nov. 17, 1907, in Landis, Mrs. Johnson was a daughter of the late George Archie and Nora H. Beaver. Educated in the Rowan County schools, she had retired as a winder at Linn Mills, Landis. She was a homemaker and the oldest living member of First United Methodist Church of Landis.
Her husband, Lawrence Johnson, died Jan. 30, 1988.
Survivors include stepson Harley G. Johnson, of the home; stepdaughters Rachel Wayner and Kathryn Hooper, both of Kannapolis, and Ruby Thomas, Baltimore; sisters Hallie Winecoff, Landis, Nell Lipe, China Grove, and Lucille Gowan, Punta Gorda, Fla.; 13 step-grandchildren; 25 step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.

Nancy Hodge Coggin
NEW LONDON — Nancy Cathern Hodge Coggin, 88, 1510 Deep River Road, High Point, formerly of New London, died Wednesday (Aug. 11, 1999) at High Point Regional Medical Center, High Point.
Born Oct. 15, 1910, in Rowan County, Mrs. Coggin was a daughter of the late Luther C. and Jane Morgan Hodge. She was a homemaker. A member of First Baptist Church of New London, she was a former Training Union director, Woman’s Missionary Union director, Sunday school teacher of the Young Ladies Class and teacher of the Junior Sunday School Girls Auxiliary.
Her husband, William Homer Coggin, died Nov. 5, 1993.
Survivors include daughters Jane Skeen and Nanci Motsinger, both of High Point; brother Lee A. Hodge, Chesapeake, Va.; four granddaughters; and one great-grandchild.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Stanly Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, Albemarle, conducted by the Rev. David Ayers. Burial, New London Cemetery.
