John Henderson
PELHAM, N.C. — John Tim McCoy Henderson, 65, of 1038 Mineral Springs Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, at the residence.
Born Jan. 9, 1936, in Caswell County, he was the son of Annie Holloway Henderson, who survives and Hubert Henderson.
He was married
to Bernice Withers, who predeceased him. He was an employee of Sunline as a general helper before his retirement and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors, in addition to his mother of the residence, include one son, Tony Henderson of Danville, Va.; one daughter, Nakioa England of Ruffin; two stepsons, Gary Withers of Arizona and Obra Withers of Reidsville; one stepdaughter, Janice Withers King of Atlanta, Ga.; four brothers, Herbert Henderson of Providence, James Henderson of Pelham, Leon Henderson of Burlington and Ellis Henderson of Yanceyville; five sisters, Kay Frances Murphy of Reidsville, Mary Alice Graves of Philadelphia, Pa., Carolyn Pulliam of Burlington, Brenda Henderson of Pelham and Beverly Henderson of Yanceyville and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Sassafras Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Carl Bigelow officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
The viewing will be held 2-8 p.m. Friday at Fulton Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will be at the residence.

Mable Smith
SEMORA, N.C. — Mable McGhee Smith, 76, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born June 5, 1925 in Person County, she was the daughter of Willie West and Cora Royster McGhee.
She was married
to John Anderson Smith, who predeceased her. She attended the public schools of Person County.
Survivors include five children, Steven John Smith of Milton; Kent Dexter Smith of the residence, Michael Wesley Smith of Baltimore, Md., Gail Smith Noble of Milton and Stanley Drew Smith of Milton; 11 grandchildren; three sisters, Anna Bell Stewart of Baltimore, Md, Gladys Elmore of Milton and Barbara Johnson of Baltimore, Md.
She was predeceased, in addition to her parents and husband, by one grandson.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Semora with the Rev. Preston Medley officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
The viewing will be held 12-5 p.m. at Plenty Funeral Home followed by a wake from 7-8 p.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church.

John Farmer
ROXBORO, N.C. — John Junious Jake Farmer, 78, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at the residence.
Born April 12, 1923, in Caswell County, he was the son of George and Nicey Farmer.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra F. Clayton of the residence and Roathy F. Paylor of Roxboro; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and three sisters, Kate Bradsher of Bronx, N.Y., and Lillian Brandon and Mary Farmer, both of Chester, Penn.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Semora with the Rev. Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
The viewing will be held 12-8 p.m. Tuesday at Plenty Funeral Home.

Sandy McRae Taylor
HIGH POINT, N.C. — Mr. Sanford (Sandy) McRae Taylor of High Point, N.C. died Sunday in Danville Regional Medical Center after an illness of six months.
Born in Danville, July 15, 1947, a son of Sanford and Kitty Taylor of Danville.
Mr. Taylor was active as a furniture interior and designer. A graduate of George Washington High School and Wingate College. He was active in many civic and social organizations in the Greensboro and High Point, N.C. area. A member of The Moffett Memorial Baptist Church. Mr. Taylor was a former pit crew member of The Richard Petty Racing Team.
Besides his parents of Danville, Mr. Taylor is survived by two cousins: Bert Sparks of Danville and Bradley Sparks of Greensboro, N.C.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 P.M. from Mount Hermon Baptist Church by The Reverend Don Davidson and The Reverend Lee Ellison.
Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park.
Townes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and the family will receive friends at the residence of his parents, Sanford and Kitty Taylor, 346 Laurel Woods Drive.

Lisa Finney
REIDSVILLE, N.C. — Lisa Kay Vaden Finney, 33, of 112 Teresa Lane, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.
Born Feb. 13, 1968, in Danville, Va., she was a daughter of Garland Vaden and Betty Collins Vaden, who survive.
She was married
Feb. 14, 1986, to Norman Finney, who survives. She was a former teacher, having taught at Lawsonville Elementary School in Reidsville. She attended the Church of the Living God.
Survivors, in addition to her husband and parents, include one son, Joseph Lee Finney of Reidsville; one daughter, Samantha Kay Finney of Redisville; one sister, Angela Marie Vaden of Danville, Va.; one maternal grandmother, Virginia Collins of Providence; and one paternal grandmother, Iris Hankins of Danville, Va.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Townes Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Joey Yeatts officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park.
The family received friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Townes Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Virginia Collins, 250 Walters Mill Road in Providence.

Willie Rone
MILTON, N.C. — Willie Joe Rone, 49, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at D & H Family Care Home in Milton.
Born Nov. 15, 1951, in Rockingham County, he was the son of Walter Waltington and Lois Virginia Rone.
He was a member of God’s Blessing Center in Milton.
Survivors include two sons, Joe Thomas Rone of Keysville, Va. and Shandel Hooper of Redisville; two daughters, Glenda Annette Rone of Atlanta, Ga. and Kiesha Rone of Woodville, Miss.; grandmother Virginia Rone of Reidsville and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Providence Baptist Church with Elder Kate Hope Farrish officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
The visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
The family will be at the residence of his grandmother, 2111 Smith St. in Reidsville.

Bessie Shelton
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. —Bessie Poteat Shelton, 101, of 2215 U.S. Highway 158 West, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, at Double S & H Family Care Home following a period of declining health.
Born Nov. 4, 1900, in Caswell County, she was the daughter of Eddie P. and Nettie Brackin Foster Poteat.
She was married
to J. Spencer Poteat, who predeceased her June 13, 1983. She was a housewife and the oldest member of Prospect United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Prospect Home Demonstration Club, United Methodist Women and a former member of the church choir.
Survivors include four daughters, Ruby Lee S. Chandler of Blanch, Sarah S. Crumpton of Yanceyville, Margaret S. Durham of Providence and Bessie S. Cook of Memphis, Tenn.; one son, Thomas Shelton of San Antonio, Texas; one sister, Louise Shelton of Yanceyville; two brothers, Norman Poteat of Providence and Tom W. Poteat of Yanceyville; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her husband and parents, by one son, Stephen Poteat on May 17, 1984.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Prospect United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bryan Faggart officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Harrelson Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Ruby Lee Chandler, 203 Chandler Road.
The family suggests memorials may be made to Alamance-Caswell Hospice, 730 Hermitage Road, Burlington, N.C. 27217.

Sandy McRae Taylor
HIGH POINT, N.C. — Mr. Sanford (Sandy) McRae Taylor of High Point, N.C. died Sunday in The Danville Regional Medical Center after an illness of six months.

Vera May
PELHAM, N.C. — Vera Beverly May, 84, formerly of 1315 Lovelace Road, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at the Brian Center in Yanceyville after six years at the center.
Born Aug. 25, 1917, she was a daughter of Eugene W. Ferguson and Sallie Barber Ferguson.
She was predeceased by her husband, Homer May. She lived most of her life in the Danville area, where she was a homemaker and of the Holiness faith.
Survivors include four daughters, Louise Wilkerson of Pelham, Nora B. Hough of Charlotte and Peggy B. Pruitt and Dorothy Beverly, both of Danville; one son, Billy W. Beverly of Danville; one stepson, Lantie May of Danville; three brothers, Raymond P. Ferguson, Wesley Eugene Ferguson and Thomas Preston Ferguson, all of California; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Interment will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Schoolfield Cemetery with the Rev. Vernon Hayton officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7-8 p.m. at Swicegood Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
Lottie Oakes
LEASBURG, N.C. — Lottie Brann Oakes, 96, formerly of Highway 119 North, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at Evergreens Senior Health Care in Greensboro.
Born in Person County, she was the daughter of John Charlie and Jennie Duncan Brann.
She was married
to Flaherty Hill Oakes, who predeceased her. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include three sons, Charlie E. Oakes of Reidsville, Hilton Oakes of Leasburg and Roger L. Oakes of Atlanta, Ga.; four daughters, Christine O. Caulder of Greensboro, Shirley O. Burney of Jamestown, Ann O. Webster of Reidsville and Roxie Oakes of Hillsborough; five sisters, Onie Idol of Greensboro, Mabene Briggs of Leasburg, Clara May of McLeasnville, Lorene Sykes of St. James City, Fla. and Orene Brann of Semora; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased, in addition to her husband and parents, by three brothers, Allie, Percy and Jack Brann and three sisters, Loney B. Tatum, Ola B. Briggs and Odell B. Denny.
The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Brooks and White Chapel with the Rev. Micahel Webster and the Rev. Joe Grubbs. Interment will follow at Ebenezer Primitive Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be her granchildren.
The visitation will be held 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at Brooks and White Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorials may be made to Ebenezer Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Jack Carter, 6875 U.S. Highway 158 East, Leasburg, N.C. 27291.
