Annie Brandon

MILTON, N.C. — Annie Carter Brandon, 92, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born Aug. 10, 1907, in Caswell County, she was the daughter of Edward Willis Carter and Fannie Rosser Carter.
She married icon James Hunter Brandon Jr., who predeceased her July 20, 1964.
She was educated in Danville City Schools and graduated from Longwood College. She was a school teacher and principal for 36 years in Caswell County. She was a member of Milton Women’s Club and the Homemaker’s Club. She was a member of Milton United Methodist Church where she was treasurer for 30 years. She was Mother of the Year in Caswell County and was a candidate for state Mother of the Year.
Survivors include one daughter, Anne B. Scott of Milton; one son, James “Jim” H. Brandon III of Danville, Va.; and two grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, George R. Carter and E. Wilson Carter;and three sisters, Susie C. Wrenn, Frances C. Robinson and Beth C. Parham.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Milton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clarence Garner officiating. Burial will be in Milton Cedar Cemetery.
The family received friends Wednesday between 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. at Townes Funeral Home.
Townes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Madge Barber

MANTEO, N.C. — Madge Wescott Daniels Barber, 101, of Manteo, N.C. died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000 in Elizabeth City, N.C.
Mrs. Barber was born in Manteo on March 22, 1898, was a retired teacher and also a travel escort for Brownell Travel. She was a graduate of Meredith College and received her master’s degree from Columbia University in New York City and was the Meredith Alumni of the year in 1982.
She was the last surviving daughter of the late Amanda Wescott Daniels and the late Capt. John T. Daniels who assisted the Wright Brothers with the first flight and took the photograph of the first flight.
Mrs. Barber is survived by a number of nieces and nephews among whom are Sarah Buchanan and Martha Chukinas of Danville.
Funeral services will be held at Manteo Baptist Church on Saturday, January 8, 2000, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Bruce Warrington officiating.
Burial will follow in the Manteo Cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the service.
Twiford’s Funeral Home, Manteo, is handling arrangements.

Robert Decker

BURLINGTON, N.C. - Robert "Bob" Peter Decker, 70, died May 22, 2000, at the Hospice Home of Alamance.
Born Sept. 12, 1929 in Pennsylvania, he was the son of Godfried and Eleanore Nauroth Decker.
He attended school at St. Mary's Parochial School and Allentown Central Catholic High School. He was employed by Phoenix Forging as a foreman, and later moved to Providence, N.C.
In addition to his wife of Providence, he is survived by one daughter, Nancy Decker Melaney of Pittsburgh; one son, Robert Peter Decker Jr. of Hatfield, Penn.; and a granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday from Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church in Northampton, Penn. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Catasauqua, Penn.
The Cremation Society of Clarksville, Va. is in charge of arrangements.

Karlee Drake

BURLINGTON, N.C. - Karlee Denise Drake, 18, of 5136 Daily Store Road, died Tuesday, May 23, 2000, in Mebane, of a sudden illness.
Blackwell Funeral Home, Burlington, is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete at this time.

Mary Lily LaMar

EDEN, N.C. - Mary Lily Hayden LaMar, formerly of Eden and Yaupon Beach, died May 25, 2000, at the University Hospital, Charlotte. She was 89.
The funeral will be held Monday, May 29, at 11:00 AM at Church of Epiphany, Henry St., with the Rev. Thomas Garner officiating. Burial will be in Lawson Cemetery.
Mrs. LaMar was a graduate of King's Business College in Greensboro and worked for Marshall Field Co. She was an avid shell collector, donating to the Eden and Southport Libraries, and UNC Wilmington. She served as chairperson for the Rockingham County Bicentennial Quilt, which is housed at the Eden Library. She was a lifetime Episcopalian.
She was preceded in death by husband James in 1982, and grandson, Lamar Fitts in 1995.
She is survived by son, James B. Lamar Jr. of Kernersville, NC, daughters, Mrs. Gary Ann Fitts of Cascade, Va., Mrs. Barbara Carrubba of Baldwin, NY, Mrs. Patricia Hossenlopp of Amagansett, NY, and Mrs. Margaret Mauney of Harrisburg, NC., ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren.
Family will receive friends at the home of Gary Ann and Allen Fitts 6660 Cascade Rd., Cascade, VA.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity or church of the donor's choice.
Fair Funeral Home is serving the family.

Henry Sellers Parker

HICKORY, N.C. - Henry Sellers Parker, 43, died May 24, 2000, at Frye Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health.
Born Aug. 23, 1956, in Surry County, he was a son of Sellers Parker Jr. and Anna Katharine Dobson Parker.
He was married icon to Angela Coffey Parker, who survives. He was a member of Mt. View Baptist Church. He was a former employee of Anheiser-Busch, Clearwater, Fla. and also a former employee of IBM/GTE in Maryland, and Flowers Baking Company in Hickory. He served in the United States Air Force.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one daughter, Ashley Townsend of the home; one stepdaughter, Candace Holland of the home; one stepson, Gregory Holland of the home; one sister, Molly Parker Johnson of High Point, and two brothers, Robert Coleman Parker of Blacksburg, Va., and Thomas Dobson Parker of Kernersville.
He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Lois Walters Parker.
A funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Mt. View Baptist Church with the Rev. Stan Frye officiating. Interment will be in Catawba Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Larry Haywood Dula

EDEN, N.C. - Larry Haywood Dula, 54, of 173 Spangler Farm Rd., died Saturday at Morehead Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Happy Home Christian Church with Dr. Richard Binderup officiating. Burial will follow in Dan River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
A native of Reidsville, he was a son of the late Larry Frontis and Helen Southard Dula and he had lived in the Happy Home Church Community for the past 29 years. He was an employee of Creighton and he attended Happy Home Christian Church.
Surviving is his wife: Barbara Spangler Dula of the home; father in law and mother in law: Robert and Irene Spangler of Eden; uncle: Kenneth Southard of Reidsville; cousins: Linda Vestal of Gibsonville and Pat Griffin of Mebane; sisters-in-law: Nancy Strader of Ruffin and Jenny Spangler of Reidsville; nieces: Ginger Southard of Reidsville, Sandy Strader Gant of Ruffin and Danielle S. Duggins of Ruffin.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 till 9:00 p.m. Sunday at Citty Funeral Home and at other times, they will be at the residence.

George Dammon Gray Sr.

EDEN, N.C. - George Dammon Gray Sr., 49, died Thursday, May 25, 2000, at his residence.
Born Sept. 11, 1950, in Danville, Va., he was a son of Drewery George Gray and Gladys Holland Gray Robertson.
He was married icon to Elizabeth Durham Gray, who survives. He was a 1970 graduate of Tunstall High School, and owned and operated Apple Real Estate in Eden.
In addition to his wife of Ridgeway, he is survived by three daughters, Virginia Elizabeth Gray, Katherine Carter Gray and Victoria Leigh Gray, all of Ridgeway; and two sons, George Dammon Gray II and Charles Christopher Gray, both of Ridgeway.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Ridgeview Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Jim Wright and the Rev. Nelson Puffenbarger officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at McKee-Stone Funeral Services, Martinsville.

Bonnie Pruitt

REIDSVILLE, N.C. - Bonnie Cardwell Pruitt, 58, of 344 Mims Farm Road, died Saturday, May 27, 2000, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
She was the daughter of Frank and Annie Hall Cardwell. She was a native of Ruffin, N.C., and lived in Rockingham County most of her life.
She was married icon to Charlie Pruitt, who survives.
In addition to her husband of the residence, she is survived by one son, Thomas Pruitt of Reidsville; one brother, Frank Cardwell of Puyallup, Wash.; and two sisters, Betty C. Cook of Reidsville and Jenny C. Littlejohn of Huntsville, Ala.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Tommy Cardwell, Benny Cardwell and Bobby Cardwell; and one sister, Joann Cardwell.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Citty Funeral Home, with the Rev. Shannon Newsome and the Rev. Randy Roberts officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Citty Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence.

James Earl Lasley

REIDSVILLE, N.C. - James Earl Lasley, 80, of 1460 Sandy Cross Road, died Saturday, May 27, 2000 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 30th, 11:00 AM at Calvary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Lasley was born in Rockingham county to the late J.W. Lasley and Alice Stiers Lasley. He was a farmer and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving during WWII and a former member of the Estelle Hunting Club. He played and also coached baseball with the Tri County League. He was preceded in death by a son, David Lasley; grandson, Greg Lasley and a brother, Troy Lasley.
He is survived by his wife, Gracie Comer Lasley of the Home; children; Brenda Small and husband, Gene of Summerfield, Sandra Garrison and husband, Jerry of Penhook, VA; Gary Lasley of Reidsville, Glenda Medford and husband, Whitey of Clyde, NC; brother, Joe Lasley of Reidsville; sisters, Lucille Carter and Dorothy Warren both of Reidsville; Daughter-in-law, Carolyn Lasley of Reidsville; Grandchildren, Cindy Moore and husband, Blake, Kevin Lasley, Cheryl Hyler and husband, Bobby, Mike Lasley, Taylor and Travis Medford; Great Grandson, Greg Lasley, Jr.
The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Monday, May 29th, from 7:00 - 9:00 PM. Other times at the Residence.

Alice Frances Poindexter

PELHAM, N.C. - Alice Frances Poindexter, 73, of Old Highway 29, Meadowbrook Trailor Park, Lot 8D, died on Sunday, May 28, 2000.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 31st, 2:00 PM at Evergreen Memory Gardens.
Ms. Poindexter was born in Rockingham County and retired from Dan River Mills. She was preceded in death by two sons, Earl Wayne Poindexter and James Leon Poindexter.
She is survived by sons, Nelson Reid Poindexter of Greensboro, Ronald Lee Poindexter of Reidsville; daughters, Nancy P. Moore of Liberty, NC, Colleen P. Smith of Ruffin; 8 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren; Sisters, Lelia Arthur and Betty Huskey of Reidsville; brothers, Jesse Earl Lee of Eden, NC and Tommy Lee of McLeansville; Mother, Mary Stephens Lee of Reidsville; special friend, Lanning Stewart; beloved friend, Luther Jennings.
The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 30th, from 7:00 - 8:30 PM. Other times the family will be at the home of the sister, Lelia Arthur, 804 Wentworth Street, Reidsville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Rockingham County, P.O. Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375.

James Worsham White

RUFFIN, N.C. - James Worsham White 80, of 1521 Bethesda Church Road died Tuesday May 30, 2000 at Annie Penn Hospital in Reidsville, following a period of declining health.
He was born in Caswell County September 22, 1919 to the late James F. and Mary Emma Worsham White. He was a farmer and part time tobacco warehouse man. He also sold Insurance for some time, and was a Mason for fifty years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of Locust Hill United Methodist Church. He served as a Caswell County Commissioner for several terms in the late fifties and sixties.
Survivors are wife Susie Newnam White of the home, two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara W. and Dr. E. Scott Hagood Jr. of Shawsville, Va. and Linda W. and John D. Vaughn of Ruffin, two sisters Virginia W. Watlington and Dorothy W. Lyday, both of Yanceyville. Four grandchildren Sarah Katherine Hagood, Elizabeth White Hagood, Virginia Anne Hagood, and Caroline White Vaughn, also a special family friend Dr. Roy O. Fagan III.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by two brothers, John F. White and William Herbert White Sr.
Funeral services will be Thursday 3 p.m. at Locust Hill United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. K. Carl Singley, Pastor. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
Memorials may be made to Locust Hill United Methodist Church, c/o Ralph L. Dail, 8488 N.C. Highway 150, Reidsville, N.C. 27320.
Harrelson Funeral Service of Yanceyville is in charge of arrangements.
