Inez Pruitt

RUFFIN, N.C. - Inez Pryor Pruitt, 89, of 8870 N.C. Hwy 700, died Monday, May 15, 2000, at Morehead Nursing Center.
Born in Rockingham County, she was the daughter of Will Lester Pryor and Mollie Reid Blackwell Pryor.
She was married icon to Forister Franklin Pruitt, who predeceased her. She was a homemaker and owner of a country store. She was of the Primitive Baptist faith.
Survivors include one son, F. Reid Pruitt Sr. of Ruffin; one daughter, Carolyn Pruitt Powell of the residence; two sisters, Mary Hill Vaughn of Reidsville and Dorothy Pryor Collie of Ringgold, Va.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Dan River Primitive Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Charlie Motley Jr.

PROVIDENCE, N.C. - Charlie Bennett Motley Jr., 76, of 4512 Walters Mill Road, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at Danville Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health.
Born Dec. 4, 1923 in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of Charlie Bennett Motley Sr. and Maggie Barbour Motley.
He was married icon to Lillie Bell Land Motley, who survives. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran, serving during World War II. He spent most of his life in Providence, where he was a farmer prior to his retirement.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by one daughter, Brenda M. Johnson of Providence; three brothers, Bobby R. Motley and Abra D. Motley, both of Axton and Edward H. Motley of Martinsville; two sisters, Louise M. Triplett of Axton and Alice M. Hopkins of Martinsville; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, George R. Motley and Willie L. Motley; and one sister, Rachel M. Montgomery.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday from Swicegood Funeral Home with the Rev. Hubert Inman and the Rev. Steve. E. Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at the Dry Fork Pentecostal Fire Baptized Holiness Church, where military honors will be performed by the American Legion Dan River Post 1097 Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.

Johnnie Lipford

MILTON, N.C. - Johnnie James Lipford, 72, of 1120 Yarborough Mills Road, died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at Vencor Hospital in Greensboro.
Born April 28, 1928 in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of James Lipford and Eva Grant Lipford.
He was married icon to Jeanie Lipford, who survives. He was a retired farmer.
In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by two sons, James Lipford and Ronnie Lipford, both of Reidsville; one daughter, Lois Poteat of Reidsville; two sisters, Lucille Wilson of Chatham, Va., and Ellen Carter of Danville, Va.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday from Cunningham & Hughes Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Sherman Craft officiating. Interment will follow in the Hopel Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
A viewing will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends at other times at the residence.

William Nichols

DURHAM, N.C. — William Swanson Nichols, 63, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Rose Manor Healthcare Center after five years of declining health.
Born July 25, 1936, in Danville, Va., he was the son of the late William Lewis Nichols and Nadine Myers Nichols, who survives.
He lived most of his life in Danville and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his mother of Danville, survivors include two brothers, Thomas Nichols and Joseph H. Nichols, both of Franklinton; three sisters, Marie N. Addison and Patsy N. Pierce, both of Durham, and Shirley N. Wynn of Lynchburg, Va.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday from the graveside at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Robert Vermillion officiating.
Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Annie Brandon

MILTON, N.C. — Annie Carter Brandon, 92, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home.
Born Aug. 10, 1907, in Caswell County, she was the daughter of Edward Willis Carter and Fannie Rosser Carter.
She married icon James Hunter Brandon Jr., who predeceased her July 20, 1964.
She was educated in Danville City Schools and graduated from Longwood College. She was a school teacher and principal for 36 years in Caswell County. She was a member of Milton Women’s Club and the Homemaker’s Club. She was a member of Milton United Methodist Church where she was treasurer for 30 years. She was Mother of the Year in Caswell County and was a candidate for state Mother of the Year.
Survivors include one daughter, Anne B. Scott of Milton; one son, James “Jim” H. Brandon III of Danville, Va.; and two grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, George R. Carter and E. Wilson Carter;and three sisters, Susie C. Wrenn, Frances C. Robinson and Beth C. Parham.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Milton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clarence Garner officiating. Burial will be in Milton Cedar Cemetery.
The family received friends Wednesday between 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. at Townes Funeral Home.
Townes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Judy Bethea

PEMBROKE, N.C. - Judy M. Bethea, 68, of 216 N. Jones Street, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at Southeastern Medical Center in Lumberton.
She was the daughter of Ang and Jessie Faison.
She was married icon to Rant Bethea, who survives.
She was a resident of Brooklyn, N.Y. where she worked as a child-care worker until her retirement.
In addition to her husband of Pembroke, she is survived by three daughters, Rosie Mae White of South Boston, Va., Allronda Bethea and Unique Bethea of Pembroke; two sons, Joseph Bethea and Ernest Bethea, both of Pembroke; four sisters, Bessie Ripley of Whiteville, N.C., Jessie Bell Jones of Durham, Rosa Lee McNeill of Wilmington, N.C. and Elizabeth McNeill of Philadelphia; and five brothers, Ang Faison and Eldon Lee Faison of Tampa, Kenny Faison of Philadelphia, Nimnia Faison of New York and Thomas Faison of Fairmont.
A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday from New Zion United Methodist Church with the Rev. Leroy Worth officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1-8 p.m. Saturday at McMillan Funeral Home, Lumberton.

Elbridge “Red” Harden

EDEN, N.C. — Elbridge “Red” Branson Harden, 86, of 314 The Boulevard St., died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000 at Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden.
He was born in Rockingham County.
He married icon Ruby Harden, who survives.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include three daughters, Alice Shelton and Wanda Porter, both of Eden; and Nancy Robertson of Martinsville, Va.; one sister, Daisy Lyles of Charlotte; and five grandchildren.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.

Anne Bowen

HICKORY, N.C. — Anne Anne Vernell Booth Bowen, 69, of the Brian Center East, and formerly of Danville, Va. died on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at the Brian Center.
Born June 28, 1930, in Danville, she was the daughter of William James and Alma Booth.
She was a member of Day Spring Baptist Church and was retired from the textile industry.
Survivors include one daughter, Rosemary Haskins, of Hickory.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one sister, Ollie Temple Dillard and one brother, Larry Gannon Booth.
A private graveside service will be Monday at the Lewis Family Cemetery in Kentuck, Va.
Drum Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Calvin Pierce

PROVIDENCE, N.C. — Calvin Kenneth Pierce, 69, of 3818 Park Springs Road, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000, at his residence after several years of declining health.
Born August 8, 1930, in Halifax County, he was the son of Buster Pierce and Evelyn Nichlos Pierce Stone.
He married icon Mable Guill Pierce, who survives.
After spending much of his life in Pittsylvania County, he made his home in Providence, N.C., for the past 20 years. He was a maintenance worker for the City of Danville Public Works Department before retiring. He was of the Baptist Faith.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one son James Pierce of Ringgold, Va.; one daughter Diane Hatcher of Timberlake, N.C.; one sister Beatrice Walker of Danville, Va.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one brother, Junior Pierce; and two sisters Christine Pierce and Mildred Glass.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Donald Mahan officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.

Mabel Powell

BLANCH, N.C. — Mabel Dallas Powell, 73, of 437 Bill Powell Road died Friday January 14, 2000 at her residence following a period of declining health.
She was born in Pittsylvania County, the daughter of J.W. and Annie Fuller Dallas. She graduated from Whitmell High School and from Danville School of Nursing. She worked for many years at the Danville Regional Hospital and was the Assistant Director of Nursing. She later worked at Roman Eagle Nursing Home. She was a member of Purley United Methodist Church and a former member of the Methodist Women.
Surviving are her husband Bill Powell of the home, one son, Dallas Powell and wife Pam of Blanch, three sisters Lois D. Agee of Richmond, Jerrine D. Hamill of Springfield, Va. and Virginia D. Murphy of Whitmell, one brother Henry C. Dallas of Whitmell and three grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one son, a brother Elmer H. “Pete” Dallas and a sister Mary D. Gammon.
Funeral services will be Monday 11 a.m. at Purley United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Floyd Morrow, pastor. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday 7-8:30 P.M. at Harrelson Funeral Home, Yanceyville (formerly Hooper Funeral Home) and at other times at the home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Purley United Methodist Church, c/o Ada W. Pleasant 4371 old N.C. Highway 86 North, Yanceyville, N.C. 27379.
Harrelson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
