Ollie Mae Thomas
Ollie Mae Thomas, age 83, of Nebo, NC, died Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at her residence.
Born in McDowell County to the late Barnett O. Revis and Laura Belle West Revis, she was a retired employee of Robinson Clothing Store and a member of Nebo Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Louis R. Thomas, 2 sons, Bobby Ray Thomas and Archie Edward Thomas and one daughter, Mary Frances Thomas.
Surviving Mrs. Thomas are one son, David Thomas and wife, Mickie of Nebo, NC; one daughter, Judy Kates and husband, Jim Bowman of Marion, NC; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Snead of Morganton, NC; two brothers, Thomas Revis of Marion, NC and Barnett O. Revis, Jr. of Old Fort, NC; half-brother, Billy Revis of Morganton, NC; two half-sisters, Mary and Annie of Spruce Pine, NC; grandchildren: Suzanne Ritter, Osann Heisner, Jon Thomas, Laura Robinson, Michael Thomas; 13 great grandchildren.
Services will be held 7:00 o’clock P.M., Thursday, August 25, 2005 in the McCall Memorial chapel o f Kirksey Funeral Home with Rev. Chuck Tripp officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 prior to the service at the funeral home. A private family interment will be held at McDowell Memorial Park.

Mrs. Inez Williams Farr
Mrs. Inez Williams Farr, 89, of Clark Street, Morganton died Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at Grace Heights after an extended period of illness. Born January 31, 1914 in Burke County she was the daughter of the late Durant J. Williams and Ila Seagle Williams. Her husband Forrest C. Farr Sr., son Tommy L. Farr, brothers Kenny Williams, Carl Williams, Earl Williams, Conrad Williams, Mocky Williams and a sister Wilhelmania Hunnicutt preceded her in death.
Mrs. Williams was a member of the North Morganton United Methodist Church where she had been active in the church choir . She had retired from Shadowline. A devoted wife and loving mother, she enjoyed working in her flower garden.
She is survived by: sons Charles Farr Jr. and wife June of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Dick Farr and wife Angie of Morganton; sister Pansy Zukor of Melbourne Florida, niece Betty Seitz if Hickory ; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Sunday, August 24, 2003 at Kirksey Funeral in Morganton with the Reverends John Woods and Jason Harvey officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 1:30 till 2:00 PM Sunday at Kirksey Funeral Home.

The family wishes to give a special thanks to the Doctors, nurses and staff at Grace Heights for their dedicated services and to her good friend Betty Benfield who was always helping in some thoughtful way.

Jerry James Ray
Jerry James Ray, 53, of 58 Poplar Drive, S.W., Marion, died at his residence on May 29, 2004.
He was the son of Rev. James C. and Iva Jane Robinson Ray, both of Marion. He was a salesman and a member of Riverside Baptist Church, Morganton. He is survived, in addition to his parents, by one sister, Terry Burnette and her husband, Arthur, of Marion. He is also survived by a nephew, Chris Burnette and wife, Kim, of Marion; a niece, April Brooks and husband, John, of Old Fort; three great-nieces, Amber Burnette and Kasey Burnette, both of Marion, and Abbie Brooks of Old Fort. Also surviving are a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jackie Ray, and the following grandparents, Rev. and Mrs. Earl Robinson and Mr. and Mrs. Ozian Ray. Services will be held on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the McCall Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home in Marion with visitation one hour prior to the service. Rev. Coy Jeans and Larry Gentry will officiate and burial will follow in the West Court Baptist Church Cemetery. Donations may be made to the family: Rev. James C. Ray, 58 Poplar Drive, S.W. Marion, N.C. Kirksey Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Mr. Danny Ray Carswell
Mr. Danny Ray Carswell, 46, of Polkville, died Monday, October 18, 2004 at his home following an extended illness.
He was born June 13, 1958 in Burke County and is the son of Bettie Smith Carswell and the late Charles Carswell.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Darrell Charles Carswell, grandparents, Geree and Bessie Smith and Elijah and Bessie Carswell.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Carrie Carswell and step-daughter Krystal of the home; brother, David Carswell and wife, Mabel of Louisville, KY; sister, Diane Carswell Chapman and husband, Gary of Morganton and several nieces and nephews.
He served in the U.S. Army for 3 years and was employed up until the time of his illness at National Textiles in Forest City.
A service to celebrate the life of Danny will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, October 21, 2004 at Kirksey Memorial Chapel with Reverends Scott Lane and Mr. Ron Thompson presiding. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton.

Gilmer “Red” Burnette
Gilmer “Red” Burnette, 52, of Marion, died Sunday, March 27, 2005, at his residence. Born July 21, 1952, in Haywood County, he was a son of the late Delmer Burnette and Roda Jane Gouge Burnette. He worked in shipping at Collins & Aikman for 38 years and served in the US Army.
Mr. Burnette is survived by one daughter, Barbara “Cookie” Burnette of Old Fort; one brother, Roy Burnette of Marion; three step-brothers, Stoney Finley of Marion, Ossie Jay Finley of Marion and C.E. Finley of Whitney, TX; one sister, Clara Burnette Dwyer of Marion; three grandchildren, Brittany, Samantha and Tiffany Burnette; four aunts; one uncle; a number of cousins, nieces and nephews; and one special nephew, Andrew Biddix “Little Man”.
Funeral Services for Mr. Burnette will be held 2:00PM, Friday, April 1, 2005, at Hicks Chapel Baptist Church, with the Reverends Danny Castle, Tony Shirley and Bob Buhl officiating. Interment will follow at Hicks Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Services at the Church.

Mr. Calvin Lester Moses
Mr. Calvin Lester Moses, 79 formerly of Hilltop Street in Morganton died Wednesday July 28, 2004 at Avante Nursing Center in Reidsville NC. He was born in Burke County on June 14, 1925 to the late George Lester Moses and Mary Cobb Moses. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Mr. Moses was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Morganton and had retired from Drexel Heritage Furniture Company after forty one years of service .
He is survived by: his wife of sixty years Margie Digh Moses formerly of Morganton but who now resides in Greensboro NC; daughter Myra Moses Smith and her husband Jim Smith of Summerfield; sisters Nell Bivens of Marion, Bess Rudicille of Asheville, Mae Williams of Inglewood California and a grandson Jay Smith of Greensboro.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday, July 31, 2004 at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton with the Reverend Max Baker officiating. Entombment will follow at the Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum .
The Family will receive friends noon till 1: 00 PM Saturday, July 31, 2004 at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton.

Irene Gibbs Taylor
Irene Gibbs Taylor, age 87, of Florence S.C. died Wednesday, November 19, 2003 in McLeod Regional Medical Center.
Born in Yancey County to the late J.R. Gibbs and Hettie Silvers Gibbs, she was a retired employee of Cross Cotton Mills and a member of Catawba Heights Baptist Church. She was the wife of the late Wilfred Taylor.
Surviving are two sons, Calvin Jack Thomas of Florence, S.C. and James Thomas of Bozeman, Mt.; five grandchildren, June Thomas of Easton, Pa., Joanne Thomas of Florence, S.C., Philip Thomas of Maui, Hi, Laura Thomas of Chapel Hill, N.C. and Jason Thomas of Asheville, N.C.
Services will be held 2:00 o’clock Saturday, November 22, 2003 in the McCall Memorial Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home. Rev. Marty Conner will officiate with burial following in McDowell Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Myrtle Sue Bradley
Mrs. Myrtle Sue Bradley, 55, of Marion, passed away Thursday, January 20, 2005, at Mission Hospital. Born in McDowell County, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Pyatt and Ruby Russel Pyatt. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bradley was also preceded in death by one son, Alvin Lee Sisk, Jr. and one brother, Marvin Pyatt.
Surviving are her husband, Samuel S. Bradley, of Marion; three daughters, Linda Freeborn and husband Lester, Tina Messer and husband William, Rebecca Rector and husband Charles, all of Marion; one step-son, Samuel Dennis Bradley and wife Christine, of Marion; two sisters, Betty Roland and husband Troy, of Marion, Catherine Buchanan, of Old Fort; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Bradley will be held 11:00AM, Monday, January 24, 2005, at the McCall Memorial Chapel at Kirksey Funeral Home with Reverends Ralph Reep and Mack Bradley officiating. The family will receive friends 6:00PM until 8:00PM on Sunday, January 23, 2005 at the Funeral Home.
West Humphrey Armistead, Jr.
West Humphrey Armistead, Jr., age 74, of Black Mountain, N.C. died Saturday, August 16, 2003 in Mission Hospital, Asheville, N.C.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 o’clock Saturday, August 23, 2003 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Satellite Beach, Fl and also 11:00 o’clock Saturday, August 30, 2003 at Black Mountain Presbyterian Church in Black Mountain, N.C.

Essie Jay Williams Hamilton
Essie Jay Williams Hamilton (July 16, 1915 May 24, 2004) quietly and peaceably departed from this life from the McDowell Nursing Home on Monday, May 24.
She was born in Lake Lure to Jessey Leander and Bessie Edgerton Williams. Essie was a nursing assistant at Marion General Hospital and later opened Essies Family Care - an elderly care facility. She was also a cosmetologist.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jessey and Bessie Williams; sisters, Jessie W. Gardin, Mary W. Smith and Niecey W. Bradley. She is survived by one sister, Clara W. Whiteside (Eugene); and one brother, Colon Williams (Izetta), both of Lake Lure.
Services will be held on Saturday, May 29 at the McCall-Kirksey Funeral Home at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the funeral service.
Rev. Will T. Winchester will officiate. Burial will follow the service at McDowell Memorial Park.
