Patrick "Pat" Lassiter
BLANCH, N.C. - Patrick "Pat" Dowd Lassiter, 78, of 4464 Blanch Road, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 1997, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
Born April 27, 1919, in Hamlet, he was the son of Pulaski Stewart Lassiter and Cornelia Farrell Lassiter.
He was retired from Auto Parts in Danville, Va., where he was a salesman.
He was a lifetime resident of Blanch and was a member of Blanch Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, a Sunday school teacher and a member of the choir.
He served as a staff sergeant in World War II in central Europe and the Rhineland.
He was a member of VFW Post 7316 and American Legion Post 89, Yanceyville.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Allen Lassiter of the home; two daughters, Shirley L. Winstead of Yanceyville and Susan P. Lassiter of Blanch; one son, Stewart A. Lassiter of Greensboro; two brothers, Richard P. Lassiter of Graham and J. Kenneth Lassiter of Greensboro; one sister, Colleen L. Flynt of Blanch; and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday at Blanch Baptist Church by the Rev. George Rumney and John Bradsher.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Marley Funeral Home in Yanceyville and at other times at the residence.
Thelma Hamlett
MILTON, N.C. - Thelma Brandon Hamlett, 68, of Highway 57, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 28, 1928, in Caswell County, she was a daughter of Howard Brandon and Viola Brandon.
She was married
to Jonah Hamlett, who survives.
She was a member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Semora.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include six sons, Clarence Brandon, Donald Hamlett, Wallace Hamlett and Marvin Hamlett, all of Milton, and Charlie Brandon and Willie Hamlett, both of Semora; four daughters, Dorothy Johnson of Hampton, Va., Joyce Stewart and Gloria Hamlett, both of Roxboro, and Pearlene Hunt of Ringgold, Va.; a sister, Leola Medley of Alton, Va.; 19 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Semora by the Rev. Harold Wenstley.
Burial will be held in the church cemetery.
There will be a viewing for family and friends from noon-8 p.m. today at Plenty's Funeral Home Chapel in Semora.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Mark Sunderland
EDEN, N.C. - Mark Wayne Sunderland, 40, 190 Cochran Farm Trail, died Thursday morning, Aug. 28, 1997, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
A native of Indiana, he was a son of Russell Sunderland and Connie Sunderland, who survive.
He was married
to Penny Cochran Sunderland, who survives.
He was a member of Westover Baptist Church in Danville, Va., and was employed as a truck driver for Summit Pet Supply.
In addition to his wife of the residence and parents of Thorntown, Ind., survivors include two daughters, Jenni Sunderland and Beth Sunderland, both of the residence; a son, Joshua Sunderland of the residence; a sister, Valerie Knick of Ohio; and two brothers, Bill Sunderland of Winston-Salem and Rodney Sunderland of West Virginia.
The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday at Westover Baptist Church.
Burial will be held in Roselawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Fair Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
Christopher Harlow Sr.
PINEVIEW, N.C. - Christopher W. Harlow Sr., 83, of Lakeview Living Center, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 1997.
Born Aug. 14, 1914, in Memphis, Tenn., he was a son of Samuel L. and Mary F. Harlow.
On July 2, 1942, he married
Helen Davis Harlow, who died in 1980.
He later married
Veola D. Harlow, who survives.
He worked as a cotton buyer in Memphis before becoming manager of the Cotton Department of Dan River Inc.
He worked for Dan River Inc. for 24 years before retiring in 1981.
He was an avid golfer and member of the Danville Golf Club until 1984.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1946 spending most of this time in Panama and Australia with the Third Army.
He retired as a lieutenant colonel from the U.S. Army Reserve in 1974.
In addition to his wife of Greensboro, N.C., survivors include a son, Chris W. Harlow Jr. of Charlotte; a brother, S. Lawrence Harlow Jr. of Little Rock, Ark.; a sister, Elma Rose Goheen of Memphis, Tenn.; a stepson, Michael Henry of Los Angeles; and a stepdaughter, Jan Segel of Daytona Beach, Fla.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Greensboro, N.C.
Burial will follow at Westminster Gardens Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at the home of Chris Harlow Jr., 6027 Sharon Road, Charlotte, N.C.
Hanes-Lineberry, North Elm Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
Herman Gibbs Sr.
HIGH POINT, N.C. - Herman Wilbur Gibbs Sr., 68, of 2125 Edgewood Drive, died Friday, Sept. 12, 1997, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Born May 7, 1929, in Rockingham County, he was a son of Robert A. Gibbs and Jennie Collins Gibbs.
On June 29, 1974, he was married
to Linda McDaniel Gibbs, who survives.
He spent most of his life in High Point and was retired from Leggett-Platt Inc.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include two sons, Herman W. Gibbs Jr. and Timmy V. Gibbs, both of Corpus Christi, Texas; two daughters, Tonya Gibbs of Archdale and Elaine Gibbs of Reidsville; a stepson, Willie D. Jacobs Jr. of High Point; a stepdaughter, Deborah Reagan of Trinity; eight sisters; Gladys Carter, Mamie Miller, Virginia Shelton and Mary Elizabeth Hazelwood, all of Danville, Va., Irvia Lane Pruitt of Roxboro, Carolyn Jean Gibbs of Lynchburg, Va., and Bessie Marie Hodges and Geraldine Anderson, both of Reidsville; three brothers, Robert Gibbs of Shallotte, Wayne Gibbs of Wallburg and Jesse Gibbs of Randleman; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 4 p.m. Tuesday at Cumby Archdale Chapel by Dr. Keith D. Letterman.
Interment will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at Cumby Funeral Home in Archdale and other times at the residence of his daughter, Deborah Reagan, 4908 West Haven Lane, Trinity.
Edith Pippin
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. - Edith Young Pippin, 61, of 517 Main St. East, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997, at her residence following several months of declining health.
Born Sept. 24, 1935, in Franklin County, she was a daughter of Jimmy Tom Young and Nora Cash Young.
She was married
to Horace H. Pippin, who survives.
She was predeceased by a brother, Albert G. Young, and a granddaughter, Sarah Hart Stanfield.
In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Sharon P. Stanfield of Prospect Hill and Dawn P. Coleman of Leasburg; three sisters, Linzy Burnette and Janie Satterwhite, both of Louisburg, and Kay Perry of Wendell; three brothers, Horace D. Young and Ellis W. Young, both of Louisburg, and Jimmy B. Young of Franklington; and a granddaughter, Haley Elizabeth Stanfield.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church cemetery by Dr. Stanley Hare.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church and at other times at the residence.

Lucille Pruitt
PELHAM, N.C. - Lucille Warren Pruitt, 82, 10980 NC 700, died Thursday, June 12, 1997, in Annie Penn Memorial Hospital in Reidsville.
She was a native of Hartsville, S.C.
She was married
to Taylor Pruitt, who predeceased her.
She was a member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church.
She was also a member of United Methodist Women.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Dan River Inc. as a spooler.
Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Dix of Pelham; four sons, Bobby Pruitt of Ruffin, Billy Pruitt of Pelham, Dick Pruitt of Reidsville and Ralph Pruitt of Oregon Hill; two sisters, Mildred Wright and Bernice Ballard, both of Burlington; 21 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Shirley Tate.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from Hickory Grove United Methodist Church.
Burial will be in Happy Home Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at Fair Funeral Home in Eden, and other times at the residence.
