Stephen G. Boyett
EAST HARPSWELL, Maine — Stephen G. Boyett, 69, East Harpswell, died Saturday (July 17, 1999) in an accidental drowning.
Born Nov. 10, 1929, in Albemarle, N.C., Mr. Boyett was a son of the late John Madison and Faye Miller Boyett. He was a 1947 graduate of Albemarle High School, a 1949 graduate of Pfeiffer Junior College and a 1953 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. He received a master’s degree in business from New Hampshire College in 1981.
He completed flight training and was designated a U.S. Navy aviator in November 1954. He assumed command of Patrol Squadron 11 at Brunswick NavalAir Station in June 1970 and later served as executive officer of the Naval Air Facility at Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam.
In August 1974, Mr. Boyett became the administrative officer at BNAS. He retired as executive officer of BNAS in June 1979. He received several military medals and awards, including the Bronze Star for action in Vietnam.
After his retirement, he was employed at Bath-Brunswick Mental Health and assisted in the development of employee assistance programs in Maine. He had also been employed as a student adviser at New Hampshire College.
A lobsterman for several years, he was a member of the Lobsterman’s Association. He was awarded the Joshua Chamberlain Award by the Brunswick Area Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors include wife Dorothy Canup Boyett, formerly of Salisbury, N.C., whom he married June 14, 1953; son Michael Boyett, Murrieta, Calif.; daughters Laura Boyett, Augusta, and Mrs. Larry (Lynn)Haynes, Salisbury, N.C.; and two grandchildren.
Services were to be held at 11 this morning at Brackett Funeral Home, Brunswick. The family received friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6-8.

Ralph Arthur Gregory Jr.
KANNAPOLIS -- Ralph Arthur Gregory Jr., 51, 511 Hoffman St., Hammond, Ind., formerly of Kannapolis, died Thursday (July 22, 1999) at his home.
Born Sept. 15, 1947, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Gregory is the son of Ralph A. Gregory, Kannapolis, and the late Esther Walker Gregory. He was formerly employed as a nursing assistant at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital, now NorthEast Medical Center.
Survivors, in addition to his father, include stepmother Lois P. Gregory, Kannapolis; daughter Kimberly Cruz, Hammond, Ind.; sisters Barbara G. Garmon, Elkin, and Linda G. Cheek, landis; brother Michael S. Gregory, Davidson; stepbrother Joe H. Smith, Gastonia; companion Russell Learning, Hammond, Ind.; and three grandchildren.
Services: 8 p.m. Saturday, Lady's Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Jesse Garmon. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.
Visitation: 7-8 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of his father and stepmother, Ralph A. and Lois P.Gregory, 310 Cottage Road.

Grace Little Simmons
CLEVELAND -- The funeral will be Sunday for Grace Little Simmons, 90, 4955 Needmore Road, who died Wednesday (July 21, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, after a period of declining health.
Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Rock Hill Church of Christ, conducted by the Rev. Anthony Reese. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30. Burial, church cemetery.

William Henry Jackson
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- William Henry Jackson, 88, 5204 Pulaski Ave., died Tuesday (July 20, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, N.C., where he was attending the funeral of his brother-in-law, James O. Wilks.

Marilyn White Moore
The funeral will be Saturday for Marilyn White Moore, 75, 218 Morlan Park Road, who died Wednesday (July 21, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born April 23, 1924, in Rutherford County, Mrs. Moore was a daughter of the late Oscar Franklin and Emma Belle Elliott White. She was a secretary for the executive director of Rowan Homes. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Daisy Hedrick SundaySchool Class and WMU Circle 2.
Survivors include husband Cecil "Pete" Moore; son Grady Phillip Moore, Marietta, Ga.; daughters Marilyn Cecilia Summer, Jacksonville, Fla., and Emily Jan Moore, Knoxville, Tenn.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Ernest Wade Cornelius
CHINA GROVE -- Ernest Wade Cornelius, 81, Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation, Salisbury, formerly of China Grove, died Thursday (July 22, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born Sept. 1, 1917, in Iredell County, Mr. Cornelius was a son of the late Will and Jessie Blackwelder. Educated in the Mooresville schools, he had retired from Cannon Mills. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maudie Estelle Stevens Cornelius, his second wife, Maybelle Parker Cornelius, and a daughter, Alice Frances Cornelius.
Survivors include daughter RachelLindley, Salisbury; sister Leona Frances Brown, Mooresville; and seven grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Northcrest Chapel, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. John Melton. The body will be cremated.
Visitation: 10-10:45 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Cecil Jack Ross, 72, Salisbury, died Thursday (July 22, 1999) at his home after four weeks of illness.,

The funeral will be Monday for Floyd Leon Stormer, 72, Thonotosassa, Fla., who died Wednesday (July 21, 1999) at his home.

Ruby Rogers Scercy
KANNAPOLIS -- Ruby Rogers Scercy, 77, 105 Westover Ave., died Thursday (July 22, 1999) at Avante of Concord Nursing Care, Concord, after five weeks of serious illness.
Born May 30, 1922, in Horry County, S.C., Mrs. Scercy was a daughter of the late Asbury B. and Sarah Daisy Venters Rogers. She had retired in 1984 after more than 40 years with Cannon Mills, Plant 1, sheet department. She was a member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church and the YMCASenior Citizens.
Survivors include son B. Reed Scercy, Pineville; daughter Jeannie Cassady, Birmingham, Ala.; and brother Hub Rogers, Kannapolis.
Services: 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Leon Hawks. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Linda Hallman James
KANNAPOLIS -- Linda Hallman James, 53, 1315 Dogwood Ave., died Thursday (July 22, 1999) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after three weeks of serious illness.
Born Jan. 23, 1946, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. James was a daughter of Louise Chapman Hallman, Kannapolis, and the late Hoyt R. Hallman. Educated in the Kannapolis schools, she formerly owned The Dinette. She attended Charity Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include daughters Lisa L. Banther, Tresa L. James and Melinda M. James, all of Kannapolis; son Richard James Jr., Kannapolis; sisters Brenda Aldridge and Jeanette Franklin, both of Kannapolis; brother Thomas Chapman Hallman, Kannapolis; and seven grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. R.J. Hammond. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

John 'Chaney' Chambers
The funeral will be Monday for John Wilbert 'Chaney' Chambers, 57, who died Monday (July 19, 1999) at Salisbury VAMedical Center after five years of declining health and 1 1/2 weeks of serious illness.
He was a member of J.C. Price American Legion Post 107.
Services: 1 p.m. Monday, Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. James L. Stowe. Burial, National Cemetery, Salisbury. military rites by Rowan Veterans Council.
Visitation: Noon Monday at the church.
