Margaret Loftin Gunter
KANNAPOLIS: Margaret Loftin Gunter, 75, 2307 Premier Drive, Gulfport, Fla., died Thursday (July 15, 1999).
Born Nov. 25, 1923, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Gunter was a daughter of the late Mary Poteat and John Loftin. She had lived in Kannapolis until eight months ago. She had retired from Terry Products after 25 years with the company.
Survivors include husband J.D. Gunter; daughter Mrs. Joseph (Kay) Rosenthal, Gulfport, Fla.; brother Tommy Loftin, Ocean Isle Beach; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Karen Currington Romo
AKRON, Ohio — Karen Currington Stupar Romo, 56, formerly of Salisbury, N.C., died Wednesday (July 14, 1999).
While in Salisbury, She was employed by Thorlo Co. and was a member of South Side Baptist Church.
Visitation: Sunday, Schlup-Pucak Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held on Monday. Burial, Greenlawn Memorial Park.

James Otto Wilks
James Otto Wilks, 85, 204 S. Lloyd St., died Thursday (July 15, 1999) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation after a period of declining health.
Services: 1 p.m. Monday, Mount Zion Baptist Church, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. Nilous Avery, Pastor. Burial, Oakwood Cemetery.

Grady Clifton Walton
Grady Clifton Walton, 85, of Salisbury, died Saturday (July 17, 1999) at his residence after a month of serious illness.
Born May 3, 1914, in Rowan County, Mr. Walton was a son of the late Lille Holder and Charlie Walton. A graduate of the Rowan County schools, he was a supervisor in the machine shops at Southern Railway for 32 years before his retirement in 1975.
He was a member of Trading Ford Baptist Church and the Roman Gobble Sunday School Class.
A 32nd-degree Mason, he was a member of Spencer Lodge 543 AF&AM, where he received his 50-year pin in 1994. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite and Salisbury York Rite Bodies and Oasis Shrine, Charlotte.
Survivors include wife Ruth Agnes Koontz Walton, whom he married Jan. 23, 1937; son Terry Lee Walton, Salisbury; daughter Mrs. Wade (Linda Ann) Basinger, Salisbury; sisters Ruth Lyerly, Mary Kirk and Katie Brinkley, all of Salisbury; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Trading Ford Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Mike Motley, pastor. Burial, family plot, church Cemetery, Masonic graveside rites by Spencer Lodge 543.

Lillie Morgan Shipton
ROCKWELL — Lillie Morgan Shipton, 94, Rockwell, died Sunday (July 18, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, after two years of declining health and two weeks of serious illness.
Born March 29, 1905, in Rowan County, Mrs. Shipton was a daughter of the late James A. and Lucy Trexler Morgan. Educated in the Rowan County schools, she was a homemaker. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Arthur Shipton Sunday School Class. She was also a member of Rockwell Rural Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
Her husband, Charlie Jeremiah Shipton, died Aug. 20, 1986.
Survivors include sons Ray Shipton, Rockwell, and Larry Shipton, Salisbury; daughters Mrs. Martin (Doris)Deese, Albemarle, and Mrs. Alton (Ruby) Talbert, Newport News, Va.; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Immanuel Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Bruce Sheeks. Burial, church cemetery.

Claude Loray Williams
FAITH — Claude Loray Williams, 85, Faith, died Sunday (July 19, 1999) at Salisbury Lutheran Nursing Home.
Born Sept. 27, 1913, in Rowan County, Mr. Williams was a graduate of Granite Quarry High School. He retired as a machinist from Norfolk-Southern Railway in 1979.
During World War II, he worked at Newport News Ship Building Dry Dock in Newport News, Va. A member of Faith Lutheran Church, he was a former member of the church council, a former church secretary and a former choir member. He was a member of Keller Memorial Masonic Lodge 657, a past master of the lodge and a member of Faith Civitan Club.
His wife, Velma File Williams, died April 20, 1985.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Faith Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Keith Copeland the the Rev. Judy Copeland, co-pastors. Masons will be seated as a group in the church. Burial, church cemetery. Masonic rites by Keller Memorial Masonic Lodge 657.

Leroy Alexander Ingle
STATESVILLE — The funeral is today for Leroy Alexander Ingle, 61, Shelton Avenue, who died Friday (July 16, 1999) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, Mooresville.
Born Nov. 2, 1937, in Iredell County, Mr. Ingle was a son of Macie Stowe Ingle, Davidson, and the late Jess Alexander Ingle. He was a service technician with Liberty Homes, Statesville. A member of Mooresville Moose Lodge 2012 for 30 years, he was a member of the Legion.
Survivors include wife Kathern Pettit Ingle, whom he married July 11, 1992; sons Jesse S. and Todd Ingle, both of Davidson; brothers Franklin B. and Larry D. Ingle, both of Davidson, and Bill M. and Thilbert E. Ingle, both of Mooresville; sister Frances I. Benfield, Davidson; and three grandchildren.

Edith McNeely Robinson
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Edith McNeely Robinson, 75, Jacksonville, died Saturday (July 17, 1999)at the home of her son, Bruce LaRue of Mount Ulla, N.C.
Born Jan. 26, 1924, in Rowan County, N.C., Mrs. Robinson was a daughter of the late David and Effie McNeely.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Robinson, and a son, Edward H. LaRue.
Survivors, in addition to her son, include daughter Jane Jones, Jacksonville, Fla.; brother Steve McNeely, Mooresville, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Julia Mills Turner
LANDIS — The funeral will be Tuesday for Julia Luzette Mills Turner, 86, Landis, who died Saturday (July 17, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, after several years of declining health.
Born Jan. 18, 1913, in Rowan County, Mrs. Turner was a daughter of the late Emzi Glaspy and Cora Dell Correll Mills. Educated in the Rowan County schools, she was co-founder of City Tin Shop Inc., a heating, air conditioning and electrical contracting company, where she worked until her 1978 retirement. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Eureka Chapter No. 277, Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include husband Marvin Richard Turner, whom she married July 4, 1936; daughter Pamella Turner Martin, Landis; and one granddaughter.
