Linda Phillips Keeton
Linda Phillips Keeton, 56, died November 26 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born in High Point to Earlie Junior Phillips and Josephine New Phillips. She was a member of Pinedale Christian Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and gardening.
Surviving are her husband of 38 years, Dennis Ray Keeton; two sons, Ray Keeton and wife Angela of Midway and Kevin Keeton and wife Amber of Reedy Creek; her mother, Josephine New Phillips; a brother, David Phillips of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Barbara Thurber of Clemmons and Rena Pike of Kernersville; and six grandchildren, Corey, Tyler, Noah, Seth, Madyson and Wyatt Keeton.
A graveside service was held at Parklawn Memorial Park, with Jerry Mathis and Charles Plunkett officiating.
Darlene Smith Priddy
Darlene Smith Priddy, 77, of King died November 22 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born in Bakewell, Tenn., to the late Elbert and Georgia Ann Ledford Smith. She retired as a nurse with over 30 years of service. She was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist First Church in Winston-Salem. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bob Prince Robertson; a sister, Pauline Smith Maynard; three brothers, Hubbert, Carl and Jess Willard Smith; a son, Dennis DuLane Priddy; and a daughter, Judith Darlene Robertson Dennis.
Surviving are her husband, Terry Ervin Priddy of Winston-Salem; three daughters, Paulette Robertson Spainhour and husband John of King, Alice Alena Priddy White and husband Billy of Winston-Salem and Sherry Leigh Priddy of Arcadia; a son, Gary Wayne Priddy Sr. of King; 13 grandchildren, Cindi Hull of Mount Airy, Mark Dennis of Cleveland, Ohio, Billy Dennis of Winston-Salem, Alesia Bates of King, Alena Tilley of King, Pilar Kinnan of Winston-Salem, Gary Priddy Jr. and wife Mandy of King, Angie Priddy of King, James White Jr. and wife Scotti of Winston-Salem, Jodi Fincannon and husband Kelvin of Youngsville, Lori Barry and husband Keith of Kernersville, Sean Boaz of Winston-Salem and Darla Boaz of Clemmons; 14 great-grandchildren, Jeffrey and Amber Scott of King, Danyelle and Laney Lilly of King, Olivia Fulton of Winston-Salem, Julesia, Jasmine and Jade Dvorak of Charlotte, Brandon and Zack of Winston-Salem, Ethan and Logan Fincannon of Youngsville, Luke Barry of Kernersville and Kaleb Truitt of Winston-Salem and two future great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joann Smith Sisk of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Lola Smith McAnally of Eustis, Fla.; and two brothers, Lloyd and Luther Smith, both of West Virginia.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor Sven Bhem, Pastor Roger Tise, Dr. Bill Davis and Gary Wayne Priddy Jr. officiating. Burial followed at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
Wade Phillip Johnson
Wade Phillip Johnson died November 17 at his home in Winston-Salem. He was born to the late Spurgeon and Virginia Johnson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a longtime employee of Cloverdale Ford. He had a hobby working with classic cars. He was a former member of St. James United Methodist Church, Rural Hall. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Johnson.
Surviving are four daughters, April Johnson Coleman and Terita King, both of Winston-Salem, and Phyllis Johnson Carmichael and Rochelle Johnson of Lexington, Ky.; three sons, Ricky Miller and wife Mamie and Wayne Johnson, all of Winston-Salem, and Warren Johnson of St. Louis, Mo.; an aunt, Ruby Jones; an uncle, Roland Eller of Clemmons; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren; and many close friends and cousins.
Funeral services were held in the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home. Burial followed in St. James United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Rebecca Joann Eller Rich
Rebecca Joann Eller Rich, 70, of Wilkesboro died November 21 at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. She was born February 14, 1935. She grew up in Wilkes County. For more than 30 years, she lived in Clemmons, where she was a member of Clemmons First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Travis A. Eller.
Surviving are her husband, Raymond R. Rich Jr. of the home; her mother, Hallie J. Eller of Ferguson; two brothers, Tony C. Eller and wife Bernice of Albemarle and Reggie H. Eller and wife Linda of Ferguson; two sisters, Jerry E. Church of Wilkesboro and Gail E. Yates and husband Clayton of Purlear; sister-in-law Elizabeth R. Dail and husband John of Edenton; nieces and nephews Robin E. Frye, Jeanie E. Davis, Kelly A. Church, Rebecca A. Church, John C. Yates, Hayden T. Eller, Austin C. Eller, Kathryn G. Odom and John L. Goodwin III; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
A memorial service was held at Lewis Fork Baptist Church on U.S. Hwy. 421 West.
William G. Enloe Jr.
William G. Enloe Jr., 79, of Winston-Salem died November 22. He was born in Raleigh on September 18, 1926, to William G. Enloe Sr. and Ruth Erskine Enloe. He served in the Naval Air Corps during World War II as a gunner on a TBF Avenger. He worked for Erwin Mills in Durham and then moved to Winston-Salem in 1955 to work for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. After 34 years, he retired in 1987 as director of purchasing. He was a member of the Purchasing Management Association of Carolinas-Virginia for 30 years. He served as president in 1974 and received the Thomas Award for outstanding service in 1975. In 1979, he attended the executive program at U.N.C. Chapel Hill. He also served on the advisory committee of the Reynolds Health Center for eight years. For over 40 years, he was a member of Mount Tabor United Methodist Church and served on many committees.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Patricia Blackman Enloe; three sons, William G. Enloe III of Lewisville, Michael H. Enloe of Atlanta, Ga., and Steven Lee Enloe, wife Kelly and daughter Danielle of Lewisville; and a sister, Mrs. O.P. Hay and husband Oscar of Raleigh.
A memorial service was held at Mount Tabor United Methodist Church.
Jeanette F. Cumbo Wret Ennis
Jeanette F. Cumbo Wret Ennis, 87, of Winston-Salem died November 20 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born August 5, 1918, in Madison County, Ga., to the late Rev. L.H. Fortson and Mrs. Josie Barton Fortson. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sarah Cumbo Smith; four sisters and two brothers.
Surviving are son Bruce Cumbo and wife Mary Ellen of Clemmons; grandchildren Cynthia C. Klaess and husband John of Garner, Deborah C. Chambliss and husband Michael of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Bruce A. Cumbo Jr. and wife Karen of Lewisville, Lisa S. Everhart and husband David of Lexington, Rhonda S. Reid and husband Daniel of Winston-Salem and Michael E. Smith of Winston-Salem; sisters Faye F. Tilley and Geneva Kiser, both of Winston-Salem; and 14 great-grandchildren, along with step-children James Ennis and wife Evelyn of Greensboro and Betty Lashley of Asheboro.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Steven Tilley officiating. Burial followed at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
Naomi Floyd Wooten
Naomi Floyd Wooten, 85, died November 23 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born September 24, 1920, to the late Will and Sue Clark Floyd. She was a member of Ardmore Moravian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Wooten; three brothers; and two sisters.
Surviving are a daughter, Kay Shugart and husband Grover of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren, Dee Dee Shugart Harrison of Winston-Salem and Brian D. Shugart Sr. and wife Susan of Lewisville; and six great-granchildren, Ashley, Andrew, Amanda, and Austin Harrison and Brian Shugart Jr. and Emma C. Shugart.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date with Rev. Kevin Frack officiating.
Constance Cramer Moore
Constance Cramer Moore, 74, of Fancy Gap, Va., formerly of Winston-Salem died November 24 at Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax. She was born March 22, 1931, in Reading, Pa., to Wilburn and Odessa Spahr Cramer. She was past manager of the Moravian Book and Gift Shop in Old Salem. She was a former member of Messiah Moravian and Unity Moravian Churches.
Surviving are her husband, J. Marlin Moore of Fancy Gap; a son, Lee Moore and wife Jan of Welcome; two daughters, Leslie Moore Spearman and husband Rob of Charlotte and Laurie Moore Rhodes and husband Scott of Clemmons; four grandchildren, Matt and Taylor Rhodes of Clemmons and Haley and Cramer Moore of Welcome; two stepgrandchildren, Daniel and Michelle Spearman, of Wilmington; a sister, Linda Cramer Waechter and husband Tim of Camp Hill, Pa.; and a niece, Mary Elizabeth Waechter of Camp Hill.
A memorial service was held at Messiah Moravian Church with Rev. William McElveen officiating.
Ruth Taylor Braswell
Ruth Taylor Braswell, 77, of Asheboro died November 26 at Universal Healthcare in Ramseur. She was born in Elizabeth City, the seventh child of the late Robert and Eliza Smith Taylor, and grew up in Greenville.
Surviving are two older brothers; six children; and 17 grandchildren, including her third child, Jane Braswell, and grandchildren Wil, Chelsea and Levi Mahan, all of Lewisville.
Ruth Jo Arden Freeman Hicks
Ruth Jo Arden Freeman Hicks, 72, of Pfafftown died November 20. She was born in Stokes County on March 30, 1933, to Joel Duff and Lemma Darling Webster Freeman.
Surviving are two sons, Jimmy Hicks and wife Sally of East Bend and Willie Hicks and wife Glenda of King; two daughters, Sylvia Roass and husband David and Jeani Cruz and husband Teodoro, both of Tobaccoville; a sister, Lizzie Alley; four grandsons; two granddaughters; two great-grandsons; and four great-granddaughters.
A graveside service was held at Mount Pleasant Methodist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Bryant Madren officiating.
David Allen Wall
David “Moose” Allen Wall, 64, of Winston-Salem died November 21 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born September 22, 1941, in Forsyth County to James and Margaret Sain Wall. He was an avid NASCAR fan and was a crewmember of Don Smith Racing and Ronnie Cliffon Racing at Bowman Gray Stadium for 30 years.
Surviving are his wife, Sylvia Lindsay Wall of the home; two daughters, Margaret Angela Wall and Constance Suzanne Wall of Winston-Salem; two granddaughters, Vanessa Suzanne Wall-Jones and Victoria Selena Wall-Jones of Winston-Salem; his mother of Lewisville; and his aunt and uncle, John and Betty Sain of Lewisville.
Funeral services were held at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel with Rev. W. Johnson Gupton Jr. officiating. Burial followed in Forsyth Memorial Park
Emma Jean Willard Gilbert
Emma Jean Willard Gilbert, 75, of Catawba died November 2. Born February 1, 1930, in Forsyth County, she was the daughter of Henry Monroe and Zona Phillips Willard. She began teaching in 1951 and retired in 1991, primarily teaching at Catawba Elementary and Catawba Middle schools. She was a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Claremont. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Willard.
Surviving are her sons, Jeff Gilbert and wife Darlene of Catawba, John Gilbert and wife Beverly of Catawba, Tracy Gilbert and wife Jennifer of Newton, Coley Gilbert and wife Jan of Charleston, S.C., and David Gilbert and wife Tami of Rogersville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Amanda Greathouse of LaGrange, Ga., Ashley Rossell of Richland, Wash., Courtney, Caroline and C.B. Gilbert of Catawba, Trish, Betsy and Katie Gaither and Amy Gilbert of Newton, Ryan and Julia Gilbert of Gastonia, Cody and Colin Talbert of Charleston and Whitney, Austin, Devin and Erin Gilbert of Rogersville; great-grandchildren, Sydney and Colton Greathouse of LaGrange; sisters-in-law, Alice Willard of Winston-Salem and Anne Gilbert of Catawba; nephews, Charles Willard of Mocksville and Doug Gilbert of Claremont; and nieces, Marilyn James of Clemmons, Barbara Britton of Greensboro, Laura Michael of Julian, Carol Deihl of Greensboro and Brenda Moore of Statesville.
A memorial service was held at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Claremont with Rev. Dr. Charles Dickson officiating. A private graveside service was also held.
Ronald Wayne Brown
Ronald Wayne Brown, 67, died November 23 at his home in Winston-Salem, after a courageous battle with lung disease. Born in Winston-Salem in 1938 to Wayne and Juanita Brown, he had made this area his home his entire life. He was an assistant vice president for Wachovia Insurance Agency until the company was sold in 1976 to Alexander & Alexander, where he continued to serve as vice president until his retirement in 1993. He was a proud member of Knollwood Baptist Church, where he served on various committees, attended the Agape Sunday school class and sang in the Chancel Choir. He was a devoted singer in the Cantate Domino a cappella Choral Ensemble. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Surviveing are his wife of 21 years, Charlotte Key Brown of Winston-Salem; a son, Steven Wayne Brown and wife Dana of Winston-Salem; his stepchildren, William H. “Chip” Petree III of Nashville, Tenn., and Stacy Petree Davis and husband Steven of Winston-Salem; his sister, Phyllis Brown Nelson and husband Joe of Clemmons; and his grandchildren, Ian Donovan Brown, Corey Paxton Brown, Wesley Hurst Davis, William Jackson Davis, Anna Winston Davis and Henry Ashworth Petree.
A memorial service was held at Knollwood Baptist Church with Dr. Christopher C.F. Chapman and Rev. R. Claxton Hall officiating.
Louise Lawing Kiger
Louise Lawing Kiger, 80, of Winston-Salem died November 23 at her home. She was born December 11, 1924, in Mitchell County to the late Alonzo Devoid Lawing and Geneva Fortner Lawing. She was a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church and the retired owner of Louise’s Beauty Shop. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Smith of Tennessee; and a brother, Bill Lawing of Winston-Salem.
Surviving are her husband, Asbury “A.G.” Glenn Kiger of the home; a son, Wayne Kiger and wife Michele of Seminole, Fla.; a daughter, Linda Sholtz and husband R.L. of Winston-Salem; three sisters, Lola Jones of Winston Salem, Jean Wiles of Clemmons and Thelma Dee of Wilmington; a brother, Kenneth Lawing of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren, Yvonne, Amanda and Jason; two great-grandchildren, Aislinn and Abby; and a pet, Lil Bit..

Ethel Daniel Beamer
Ethel Daniel Beamer, 96, of Mount Airy, widow of Samuel Frank Beamer, died September 14 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was born in Guilford County on April 22, 1910, to the late Edgar Daniel and Maude Atkins Daniel and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church for over 60 years.
Surviving are two daughters, Judy Bray of Davidson and Carol Denny and husband Wayne of Pilot Mountain; a son, Arthur Beamer, and wife Patricia of Greensboro; seven grandchildren and spouses, Dean Bray III and Julie of Mount Airy; Shannon and Joel Barto of Mooresville; Becky and Greg Ebert of Lewisville; Douglas F. Beamer of High Point; Daniel L. and Ashley Beamer of Roanoke, Va.; Richard K. Penn III and Wendy of Sherrills Ford; and Brooks F. and Stacey Penn of Cary; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Dale Wallace officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mary Frances Lowery Ashley
Mary Frances Lowery Ashley, 88, of Fort Mill, SC died September 14 at Agape Rehabilitation Center in Rock Hill after an extended illness. She was born August 12, 1918, in Union County to Robert Lee Lowery and Mamie Ruth James Lowery and lived most of her life in Fort Mill. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Samuel Glenn Ashley, in 1986.
Surviving are her son, Phillip T. Ashley and wife Jean of Clemmons; two grandchildren, Julie Ashley Holmes and husband Barry of Clemmons and John Phillip Ashley and wife Jackie of Carrboro; two great-grandchildren, Ryan and Drew Holmes of Clemmons; and a sister, Gladys Auld of Paducah, Ky.
A private graveside service was held.
Wilma Hester Oldham
Wilma Hester Oldham, 68, of High Point died September 16 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born September 24, 1937, in Forsyth County to Elmer E. and Virginia Hicks Hester. She was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. after 15 years of service. She was preceded in death by her brother, Melvin Hester. Surviving are her husband of 48 years, C. Donald Oldham; two daughters, Debra Pack of Winston-Salem and LaDonna Lee of Clemmons; a son, Johnny Oldham and wife Robin of Pfafftown; four grandchildren, Shane Stone, Lauren Oldham, Amanda Lee and Dillon Oldham; a brother, Richard Hester and wife Linda of Winston-Salem; a half sister, Johnnie Belinda Yontz of Myrtle Beach, SC; and her special baby, Buffie.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. John Hackworth officiating. Burial followed in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
Otis Odell Conrad
Otis Odell Conrad, 73, of Pfafftown died September 12 at his residence. He was born July 9, 1933, in Forsyth County to Asa Odell Conrad and Claudia Livengood Conrad. He lived in Forsyth County all of his life and was a member of Mizpah Moravian Church. He served in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Nancy Joyner, Betty Conrad Richardson and Claudia Ann Stoltz.
Surviving are his wife, Sue Allgood Conrad; a sister, Rebecca Conrad Lane and husband Dalton of East Bend; and two brothers, John Lee Conrad and wife Betty and Lewis W. Conrad and wife Phyllis, all of Winston-Salem.
Funeral services were held at Mizpah Moravian Church with Rev. Jon Boling officiating. Burial followed in the church graveyard.
Julian Carl Avery Jr.
Julian Carl Avery Jr., 90, formerly of Winston-Salem and Bermuda Run died Saturday, September 16 at Springmoor Retirement Community in Raleigh. He was born April 15, 1916 in Selma to Julian Carl and Lillian Rose Avery. He worked in the electrical power and telecommunications field. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem and was active in the Civitan Club. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marguerite Butner Avery, and a son, Edward C. Avery.
Surviving are his wife, Margarette Ricks Avery of Raleigh; two sons, William L. Avery and wife Jody of Stow, MA, and Robert B. Avery and wife Julie of Chapel Hill; two grandsons, Scott Avery of Stone Mountain, GA and Brian Avery of Chapel Hill; three granddaughters, Jodi Diaz of Granby, CT, Margy Avery of Boston, MA and Allison Petrilla of Alexandria, VA; three great grandchildren; and four stepchildren, Susan McQuaid and husband Louis of Charleston, WV, Jack Pearce and wife Karol of Forest Hill, MD, R. Clifton Pearce and wife Pam of Hillsborough and David Pearce and wife Teresa of Smyrna, GA. Funeral services were held Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel. Burial followed in Forsyth Memorial Park.

James Lee Shermer
James Lee Shermer, 77, of East Bend died September 17 at Yadkin Nursing Care Center in Yadkinville. He was born in Yadkin County on March 11, 1929, to Wilford and Dora Willard Shermer. He was a member of Richmond Hill Baptist Church with 47 years of perfect attendance. He was retired as a dedicated member of Fall Creek Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid New York Yankees fan and was a one-time coach of North Fall Creek Little League in the mid-1960s. He had 23 years service at Hanes Hosiery and 20 years service at Schlitz-Stroh’s Brewery. He enjoyed the Lexington Flea Market. He was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Kate R. Shermer of the home; two sons, Jim Shermer of Lewisville and Gary Shermer of East Bend; a sister, Kate Prim of Rural Hall; a special niece and her husband, Sherri Willard and husband Charles of Yadkinville; and two furry friends, Maverick and Choo-Choo.
Funeral services were held at Richmond Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Will Hamric officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
