WHITEVILLE -- Mrs. Reba Suggs Batten, 75, of Whiteville died Saturday in Columbus County Hospital.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Westminster Presbyterian Church by the Rev. John VanDeventer. Burial will be in Columbus Memorial Park.
Mrs. Batten is survived by a sister, Alverta S. Stover of Whiteville; and two brothers, Dolphus J. Suggs of Chadbourn and Dorris M. Suggs of Whiteville.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at McKenzie Mortuary.
Mrs. Ruth B. McGaugh (dated Monday, Dec. 22, 1997)
WHITEVILLE -- Mrs. Ruth Britt McGaugh, 64, of 10179 Chadbourn-Clarendon Road died Saturday in Columbus County Hospital.

LUMBERTON -- Mrs. Mary Grace Leggett, 68, of 1990 Old Whiteville Road died Sunday.

Jimmy D. Tanner (dated Monday, Dec. 22, 1997)
HOPEWELL, Va. -- Jimmy D. Tanner, 40, of Hopewell, formerly of Autryville, N.C., died Saturday.
He was an auto mechanic.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Butler Funeral Home in Roseboro, N.C., by the Rev. Paul A. Williams. Burial will be in Roseboro Cemetery.
Mr. Tanner is survived by a daughter, Charlotte Tanner of Richmond; a son, Jimmy Tanner Jr. of Hopewell; three sisters, Virginia Suggs of Newton Grove, N.C., Patsy Williams of Autryville and Shirley Stepp of Sumter, S.C.; two brothers, Linwood Tanner of Sumter and Johnny Tanner of Mayesville, N.C.;

LAURINBURG -- Mrs. Alberta Williams, 77, of 1216 Cornelia St. died Sunday.

William Wilson (dated Monday, Dec. 22, 1997)
William Wilson, 65, of 1614 Gibson St., Fayetteville, died Thursday in Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
No services will be held.
Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife, Ruby Wilson; six sons, Lee Wilson and Jeffery Wilson, both of Fayetteville, Darryl Wilson of Durham, and William Wilson, Jamie Wilson and Mitchell Wilson, all of New Jersey; three daughters, Martha Wilson, Juanita Wilson and Tawanda Wilson, all of Fayetteville; his parents, Jessie and Rebecca Brown of New Jersey; two brothers, Pete Bridges and Bobby Bridges, both of Paterson, N.J.; three sisters, Doris Scott, Edna Crawder and Annie R. Bridges, all of Paterson; and several grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7 at Wiseman Mortuary.
Mrs. Margaret Clemmons (dated Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997)
Mrs. Margaret Sherrill Clemmons, 89, of Fayetteville died Sunday in Len Care Nursing Home in Elizabethtown.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. today in Rogers & Breece Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. T.J. Fulk.
Mrs. Clemmons is survived by two brothers, Harold Sherrill of Gray’s Creek and Robert Sherrill of Fayetteville; two sisters, Mattie M. Davis of Gray’s Creek and Mary Allen of Oxnard, Calif.; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
James C. Pitner (dated Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997)
SPRING LAKE -- James Craig Pitner, 34, of Spring Lake died Saturday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.
He was a mechanic for Smith International.
A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. today in the home of Colin Simmons in Fayetteville. Arrangements are being handled by Cape Fear Crematory of Fayetteville.
Mr. Pitner is survived by his mother, Sally Craig of Coulee Dam, Wash.; his father, Craig Pitner of Sedro Woolley, Wash.; three sisters, Geri Ann Grogan of Mableton, Ga., Salli J. Craig of Superior, Mont., and Crystal Pitner of Sedro Woolley; two brothers, Chester “Chet” Pitner of Sekiu, Wash., and Christopher Pitner of Sedro Woolley; and his maternal grandmother, Marie Newman of Marietta, Ga.

BLADENBORO -- Mrs. Esther R. Brisson, 80, of Bladenboro died Sunday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Galeed Baptist Church by the Rev. Bruce Cannon. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Brisson is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Harvey L. Cashwell of Spring Lake; four sons, Harvey L. Brisson of Madison, Ala., Dewey L. Brisson of Fayetteville, Terry E. Brisson of Hollywood, Fla., and Edward L. Brisson of Southern Pines; two brothers, William F. Russ of Mocksville and Charles E. Russ of Fairmont; four sisters, Minnie M. Averitt and Mary Pait, both of Bladenboro, Ruth Cain of Bessemer City and Peggy Oliphant of Kannapolis; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

WAGRAM -- Douglas Shaw Lassiter, 57, of 23661 Gilchrist St. died Sunday in Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Spring Hill Cemetery by the Rev. David Richardson. Arrangements are being handled by McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
Mr. Lassiter is survived by his mother, Ava C. Lassiter of Wagram; and two brothers, Harry Lassiter of Wagram and Mickey Lassiter of Richmond, Va.

SANFORD -- Rufford “Ross” Mason, 66, of 3066 Kalhif Court died Sunday in Central Carolina Hospital.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Sanlee Chapel in Lemon Springs by the Revs. Wayne Ellis and John Sauls. Burial will be in Spring Hill United Methodist Church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.
Mr. Mason is survived by three daughters, Tracy C. Mason of Broadway, Libby Dew of Sanford and Barbara Mason of Coats; a brother, Grady Mason of Copiague, N.Y.; three sisters, Catherine Iannarone of Olivia, and Janice Herring and Margie Kelly, both of Sanford; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

CAMERON -- Mrs. Margie Powers Todd, 50, of Route 2 died Saturday in her home.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Juniper Springs Baptist Church by the Revs. Danny Wallace and Clint Mason. Burial will be in Buffalo Cemetery in Sanford.
Mrs. Todd is survived by her husband, Luther Todd of Cameron; two sons, Jimmy Whitaker and Darrell Powers, both of Sanford; a stepson, James Whitaker of Wendell; a stepdaughter, Kathy Hickman of Olivia; two sisters, Louise Brantley of Sanford and Wilma Mongold of Martinsburg, W.Va.; five grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren.

CARTHAGE -- Mrs. Ilene Blalock Bailey, 75, of Carthage died Monday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Mrs. Bailey was a homemaker, and was a Sunday school teacher for Union Presbyterian Church.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Union Presbyterian Church by the Rev. William A. Stewart Jr. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Bailey is survived by her husband, Gilbert M. Bailey; a daughter, Rebecca Bailey of Carthage; two sons, G. “Mac” Bailey Jr. of Cary and David M. Bailey of Sanford; a sister, Margie B. Porterfield of Shreveport, La.; and two grandsons.
