James “Paul” Hardy
James "Paul" Hardy, 77, died June 6 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born July 29, 1924, to Brady Edgar and Addie Smith Hardy in Surry County. He was employed by Cunningham and Pine Hall Brick Co. in the sales department. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he was an usher for many years. He was also a member of the Macedonia Men's Bible Fellowship Class, and was an ordained Baptist deacon. He was preceded in death by a son, Mark; a brother, Claude; and a sister, Nina Moser.
Surviving are the wife, Pansy Collins Hardy of the home; three sons, Rev. Steve Hardy and wife Becky of Clemmons, Bill Hardy and wife Judy of Jonesville and Dale Hardy and wife Joyce of Dobson; four grandchildren, Mary Collins, Meredith, Sarah and Joshua; and two brothers, Ralph Hardy of Mount Airy and Ray Hardy of Kernersville.
Funeral services were held at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Mark Corts and Rev. Francis Smith officiating. Burial followed at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons.
Edgar Allen Welch
Edgar Allen "Pete" Welch, 56, of Clemmons died June 16 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born May 11, 1946, in Charleston, W.Va., to Glen Edgar and Ruby Wolf Welch. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Freddie Wayne Welch.
Surviving are his companion of 14 years, Betty White of the home; a second mother, Nellie Byerly of Silas Creek Manor; two sons, Edgar Allen Welch II and Freddie Wayne Welch II, both of Elkhart, Ind.; a daughter, Ruby Elizabeth Welch of Elkhart, Ind.; eight grandchildren; a sister, Charlotte Wood of Winchester, Ky.; three brothers, Herbert Lee Welch of Stanleyville, Glen Dale Welch of Elkhart, Ind., and Roger Lee Welch of Winston-Salem; several nieces and nephews; a stepdaughter, Crystal Rogers and husband Shawn of Lewisville; and two stepsons, Mike White and wife Kelly of Mocksville and Dee White of Winston-Salem.
A graveside service was held at Centenary United Methodist Church Cemetery in Clemmons with Pastor Fred Rogers officiating.
Ada Kozier
Ada Kozier, 93, of Lewisville died June 13 at her home.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
William Ralph Griffin
William Ralph Griffin, 78, of Winston-Salem died June 6 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born July 24, 1923, in Ashland, Ga. to John Lee and Lorena Jones Griffin. He retired from Western Electric after 36 years service. He was president of Six R. Communications, which was founded in 1984, and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marsha Gayle Griffin, in 1974.
Surviving are his wife, Ruby A. Griffin of the home; two daughters, Linda Clapp and husband John of Winston-Salem and Sharon Gheen and husband Kevin of Clemmons; six grandchildren, Jason and Adam Clapp and Timothy, Christopher, Abigail and Matthew Gheen; and three sisters, Ruby Cheek, Esther Hawkins and Mae Carlin, all of Georgia.
Funeral services were held at Centenary United Methodist Church with Dr. William Dyar and Rev. Jack Yarbrough officiating. Burial followed at Forsyth Memorial Park.
Richard E. Sands
Richard E. Sands, 80, of Clemmons died October 13 at his home. He was born March 23, 1922, in Exeter, Pa., to Corea Albert and Grace Goodrich Sands. He was retired from Boeing Co. He was a very active member of the YMCA in Clemmons while his health permitted. He was an avid hiker and outdoorsman and loved his dogs and bird watching.
Surviving are a daughter, Sandy Morris and husband Jim of Clemmons; a son, Richard H. Sands and wife Lisa and their children, Richie and Matt Sands of Trainer, Pa.; two sisters, Jemima Wildrick of Aston, Pa. and Beatrice Krug of Ogden, Pa.; three brothers, Kennard Sands of West Pittston, Pa., Nathan Sands of Harding, Pa., and Cory Sands of Bethlehem, Pa.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at Mount Pleasant Methodist Church, the chapel at Tanglewood, with Chaplain Beverly Isley-Landreth officiating.
Clifton Eugene Binkley
Clifton Eugene Binkley, 79, of Clemmons died October 13 at Forsyth Medical Center, following years of failing health. He was born September 28, 1923, in Davidson County to William Henry and Rosie Thomas Binkley. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired from the trucking industry after 27 years of service. His parents; a dear brother, James; and three sisters, Irene, Edith and Frances, preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Martha Canter Binkley of the home; a daughter, Linda Jones; two sons, John and Stanley Binkley; four grandsons, Steve, Chris, John David Binkley and Timmy Jones; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Faye Webb and Annice Willard; two brothers, William and Charlie Binkley; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held at Immanuel Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Carl Taylor officiating.
Clarke Doub Hauser
Clarke Doub Hauser, 82, of Pfafftown died October 17 at the Winston-Salem Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. He was born September 27, 1920, to Pinkney E. and Sallie Doub Hauser. He lived all of his life in Forsyth County and was a lifelong member of Brookstown United Methodist Church. He was retired from Mock Tire Co. and enjoyed farming as long as his health permitted. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Tucker Hauser, on April 1, 1997.
Surviving are two sons, Joseph Clarke Hauser and wife Kathy of Merritt Island, Fla., and Russell Gray Hauser and wife Connie of Pfafftown; a grandson, David Clarke Hauser; a granddaughter, Megan Grey Hauser; a great-grandson, Cody Clarke Hauser; a sister, Thelma Myers of Lexington; three brothers, John E. Hauser and wife Wilma of Pfafftown, Joseph J. Hauser and wife Velma of Burlington and David R. Hauser and wife Florence of Lexington; a sister-in-law, Juanita Nance and husband Earl of Pfafftown; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Brookstown United Methodist Church with Rev. Eugene Dean officiating.
Lillie Rogers Maines
Lillie Rogers Maines, 86, of Lewisville died October 12 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born February 10, 1916, in Ripley, Miss., to Edward Hindman Rogers and Annie Lou Spencer Rogers. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Woodrow Wilson Maines.
Surviving are her daughter, Dorothy Ann “Dottie” Maines of Winston-Salem; her son, William Roger Maines and wife Debra of Lewisville; and three sisters, Zelphia Kelley and Ruby Mitchell, both of Lubbock, Texas, and Odethia Mazick of High Point.
Funeral services were held at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel and burial followed at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons.
Thelma Brookshire Dyer
Thelma Brookshire Dyer, 80, of North Wilkesboro died October 12 at Villages of Wilkes. She was born June 10, 1922, in Wilkes County to James Edgar and Martha Ada Michael Brookshire. She was a member of Welcome Home Baptist Church where she taught in the children's department for 23 years and was a member of the Baptist WMU.
Surviving are her husband, Chalmer Dyer of North Wilkesboro; a daughter, Mary Frances Stahl and husband John of Clemmons; three sisters, Marcella Carpenter, Bonnie Cook and Frances Bumgarner, all of North Wilkesboro; a grandson, Andrew Stahl and wife Megan of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Welcome Home Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Webb and Rev. Carl Elledge officiating, and burial followed at Mountlawn Memorial Park.
James Roy Stimpson
James “Jim” Roy Stimpson, 71, of Clemmons died October 14 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born May 30, 1931, in Yadkin County to Samuel and Laura Jarrett Stimpson Sr. He was a member of Benbow Chapel AME Zion Church. He served in the U.S. Army and was retired from Thalhiemer’s. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Laura B. Stimpson; and by a brother, Charles Stimpson.
Surviving are a devoted companion and her sons, Annie Mae Bradley of the home, Harry Bradley of South Carolina and Rendel Bradley of the home; four sisters, Louise Williams of Passaic, N.J., Lola Black and Josephine Stimpson, both of Winston-Salem, and Evelyn Rodman of Asheboro; two brothers, Sam Stimpson and wife Geraldine of Winston-Salem and Herman Stimpson of Asheboro; two aunts, Milrose Shores of Winston-Salem and Lillian Booker of Philadelphia, Pa.; an uncle, James Jarrett and wife Martha of Philadelphia, Pa; a sister-in-law, Margaret Stimpson of Fayetteville; his wife, Josie Stimpson of Oakdale, La.; several devoted friends, nieces and nephews; the devoted extended Sherrill family; and the devoted extended Alison Armfield family.
Funeral services were held at the Benbow Chapel AME Zion Church with Rev. Louis Hunter officiating, and burial followed in the church cemetery.

Wilburn Harvey Deszern Sr., 62, of Pfafftown died October 17.
A memorial service was held at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel.

Sue “Nell” Johnson Page, 79, formerly of Winston-Salem, died October 9 at Meadowbrook Terrace of Davie in Advance after a lengthy illness. She was born March 12, 1923, in Wilkes County to Roscoe Johnson and Addie Glass Johnson. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; five brothers, Glenn, Denver, Stewart, R.C. and Frank Johnson and Albert Curry; and a sister, Blanche Johnson.
Surviving are her husband, Mitchell Page; three daughters, Judy Libro and husband Charles, Carol Johnson and husband Ralph, and Patsy Brewer and husband Ronnie, all of Clemmons; five grandchildren, Stephanie Mitchell and husband Steve of Columbia, S.C., Debbie Carter and husband Marty of Shreveport, La., Todd Brewer and wife Heather of Lewisville, Joey Libro of Shreveport, La., and Allen Johnson of Asheville; eight great-grandchildren, Connor, Wesley and Trey Mitchell of Columbia, S.C., and Trisha, Jenna, Christopher, James and Al Carter of Shreveport, La.; three sisters, Ruby Pardue of Ronda, Edith Lawrence and husband Graham of Elkin and Frances Gray of Clemmons; two sisters-in-law, Sheloma Johnson of Ronda and Bonnie Johnson of North Wilkesboro; two step-daughters, Pat Downs of King and Sandra Rankin and husband Bill of Coral Springs, Fla.; four stepgrand-children, Jimmie Warren, Marion Allen Johnson, Debbie Doub and Dennis Page; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; a very special lifetime friend, Vicky Call and husband Clarence; and many other special friends and family members.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor L.C. Taylor and the Rev. Arnett Harris officiating. Burial followed at Westlawn Gardens of Memory.
Gertrude May Greenaway Wendorf
Gertrude May Greenaway Wendorf, 95, of Lewisville died October 18 at her home. She was born February 24, 1907, in Dormansland, England, to the late Daniel and Emily Greenaway. At the age of 5, she moved to Ontario, Canada, but most of her adult life was spent in Marietta, Ga. She later moved to Lewisville and has spent many years in the community. She was a member of Lewisville United Methodist Church and several community causes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer C. Wendorf; and a brother, Charles Greenaway.
Surviving are a daughter, Donna Harbuck and husband Gene of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, David Harbuck, Wendy and Tony Allen, Beth and Chris Rozina and Jonathan Harbuck; a host of great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Nell Thompson of Port Rowan, Canada.
Funeral services were held at Lewisville United Methodist Church with Rev. Don Routh officiating, and burial followed in the church cemetery.
Jack Daniel Miller
Jack Daniel Miller, 76, of Raleigh died October 14 at Sunnybrook Nursing Home. He was a native of Winston-Salem and the son of the late John H. Miller and Bertha Cook Miller. He served as a medic in the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II and retired from Kraft Dairy Foods after 25 years of loyal service as a sales manager. After retiring from Kraft, he worked at Cheviot Hills Golf Course in Raleigh, which he loved greatly. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Raleigh and First Baptist Church of Winston Salem. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Ruby E. Miller, on Aug. 31, 2002.
Surviving are his son, John Miller of Raleigh; two daughters, Anne Paxton of Clemmons and Laura Laraia of Raleigh; four grandchildren, Ian Paxton, Kelly Harden, Amanda and Brittany Laraia; two brothers, James Miller of Winston-Salem and Bill Miller of Pinellas Park, Fla.; and a sister, June Nifong of Clemmons.
Funeral services were held at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home Chapel in Raleigh, and a graveside service was held at Forsyth Memorial Park.
Joyce Collis March
Joyce Collis March, 76, of Fairfax, Va. died October 14. She was born January 21, 1926, in Little Switzerland, to Mary Helen Collis. She was a former member of Green Street United Methodist and Trinity United Methodist churches in Winston-Salem and was a LPN for many years at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She taught Sunday school and was an active member of Green Street for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband Hoyle Alvis March.
Surviving are a son, Eric H. March and wife Kathy of Clemmons; a daughter, Theresa J. March of Fairfax, Va.; and a cousin, Miriam Bennett of Marion.
A graveside service was held at Forsyth Memorial Park with Rev. Ervin Hauser officiating.
Jimmie D. Beck
Jimmie D. “Pee Wee” Beck, 68, of Lewisville died June 23 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born January 22, 1936, in Forsyth County to Joseph E. and “Annie” Mabe Beck. He retired from Owens-Brockway as a maintenance electrician. He was a former member of the Vienna Fire Department and an avid fisherman. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Joe Beck.
Surviving are his wife, Grace Stamper Beck of the home; two daughters, Kristi B. Bell and husband Stephen of Winston-Salem, and Tracie L. Beck of Winston-Salem; his mother, “Annie” Mabe Beck of Winston-Salem; a brother, Timothy Beck and wife Debbie of Winston-Salem; two nephews, Bobby and Michael Beck; a special sister-in-law, Joan Sands; and several other loving “in-laws.”
A graveside service was held at Forsyth Memorial Park with Dr. Bud Owens officiating.
Dorothy K. Gordon Hyatt
Dorothy “Dot” K. Gordon Hyatt, 82, of Winston-Salem died June 23 at Homestead Hills Assisted Living. She was born in Davidson County to Chester Lee and Lula P. Griffin Gordon. She was a U.S. Army veteran, and she owned and operated a beauty salon for many years. She was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are a daughter, Marilyn Dean Godfrey of Winston-Salem; a grandson, Robert Edward Godfrey and wife Beverly; a granddaughter, Jennifer Angell and husband Paul of Tobaccoville; two brothers, Robert L. Gordon of Clemmons and C.L. Gordon of Arcadia; several nieces and nephews; and a special niece and caregiver, Ronna Kennedy of Lexington.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Mike Martin officiating, and burial followed in Westlawn Gardens of Memory.
Irma Hartgrove Smith
Irma Hartgrove Smith, 87, of Germanton died at home June 24. She was born November 12, 1916, to Annie Elizabeth Kiger and Junius Hartgrove. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Clyde Hartgrove.
Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Wilbur Smith; three children, Don Smith and wife Mary of Mocksville, Vicki Fair and wife Dee of Lewisville and Sharon Snow and husband Rusty of Germanton; seven grandchildren, Tony and Jamison Fair, Erik, Jason and Dustin Smith and Cameron and Tiffani Snow; and seven great-grandchildren, Zachary, Sarah, Patrick and Avery Fair and Austin, Hayleigh and Claire Smith.
A graveside service was held at Corinth Church of Christ Cemetery in Germanton.
Dorothea Elizabeth Dlabal
Dorothea Elizabeth Dlabal, 85, of Independence, Mo., died June 24 at Alterra Clare Bridge of Winston-Salem. She was born January 26, 1919, in Leavenworth, Kan., to Henry Gercken and Theresa Kern Gercken. She trained as a nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., and worked in her husband’s medical practice. She was a member of Nativity of Mary Catholic Church in Independence, Mo., where she served as a Stephens minister, catechist and officer of the Altar Society. She was also a member of the Legion of Mary and the adult Little Parish Study Group. She was an officer of the Medical Guild of the Independence Sanitarium Hospital. She was married to Dr. Luke J. Dlabal Sr. for 55 years.
Surviving are a daughter, Kathy Rucker and husband Tom of Winston-Salem; two sons, Dr. Luke Dlabal and wife Chrystal of Lee’s Summit, Mo., and Dr. Thomas Dlabal and wife Kathy of Shalimar, Fla.; five grandchildren, Thomas Rucker and wife Jan of Clemmons, Marion Rucker Watkins and husband Seth of Arlington, Va., Luke Dlabal III of Lee’s Summit, Mo. and Matthew and Elizabeth Dlabal of Shalimar, Fla.; and two great-grandchildren, Grace and Jackson Rucker, both of Clemmons.
A Mass of the Resurrection was held at Nativity of Mary Catholic Church in Independence, Mo.
Bobby Louis Conrad Sr.
Bobby Louis Conrad Sr., 56, of Winston-Salem died June 23 at Forsyth Medical Center after a battle with cancer. He was born July 22, 1947 to Rev. James and Lorene Conrad of Lewisville. He was a retiree from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. He had recently become a member of Goler Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church. He enjoyed having fun and had a great sense of humor and was also a motorcycle enthusiast. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving are his siblings, Rev. William Conrad and wife Emma of Mooresville, James Conrad Jr. and Rev. Dorothy Kelley and husband Robert of Winston-Salem; five children, Monica Conrad, Karen “Kay Kay” Conrad and husband Edward, Bobby Conrad Jr., Rhea Conrad-Reed and husband Chris of Winston-Salem and Jeremy Conrad of Shannon; eight grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews, other family members and friends including a very devoted friend, Patricia Cain, who committed herself to be by his side through his struggle.
Funeral services were held at Goler Metropolitan AME Zion Church with Rev. William Conrad officiating, and burial followed in New Hope AME Zion Church Cemetery in Lewisville.
