Mrs. Dorothy Jones (dated Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997)

HAMLET -- Mrs. Dorothy Jones of Hamlet died Wednesday in Hamlet Hospital.

Arrangements will be announced by Charles McNeill Funerals of Rockingham.

Miss Shenikka N. McNeil (dated Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997)

Miss Shenikka Nicole McNeil, 26, of 206 Central Drive, Fayetteville, died Sunday in Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday in St. Luke AME Zion Church by the Rev. Sheridan Knight. Arrangements are being handled by Cunningham & Sons Mortuary.

Miss McNeil is survived by two sons, Quantamus J. McNeil-Sudduth and Khalim M. McNeil, both of Fayetteville; two daughters, Sharyahna R. McNeil and Khalin U. McNeil, both of Fayetteville; her mother, Sharon E. Locklear of Fayetteville; a brother, Jonathan G. McNeil of Clinton; a sister, Schandra B. Malloy of Fayetteville; and her grandmother, Mae F. Jones of Fayetteville.

The family will receive friends at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.

James ‘Tommy’ Truelove (dated Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997)

SANFORD -- James T. “Tommy” Truelove, 91, of 2201 Carthage St. died Tuesday in Central Carolina Hospital.

He retired from Firestone Corporation and was a member of East Sanford Baptist Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in East Sanford Baptist Church by the Rev. Mike Runion. Burial will be in Cool Springs Baptist Church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

Mr. Truelove is survived by two sisters, Fannie L. Warwick of Cleveland, Ga., and Laurie Chastain of Belmont; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to East Sanford Baptist Church building fund, 300 North Ave., Sanford, N.C. 27330.

Mrs. Naomi M. Autry (dated Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997)

ERWIN -- Mrs. Naomi McLeod Autry, 75, of Erwin died Wednesday in Good Hope Hospital.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Price Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Jerome Pope. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Dunn.

Mrs. Autry is survived by a son, Ronald “Buck” Autry of Lillington; two daughters, Judy McLeod of Erwin and Janice Capps of Linden; four brothers, Wallace McLeod, Clifton McLeod, Bruce McLeod and Billy McLeod, all of Erwin; two sisters, Alene Byrd of Dunn and Maggie Johnson of Angier; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Judy McLeod, 108 Hall Road, Erwin.

Belvin McKoy Sr. (dated Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997)

Belvin McKoy Sr. of 2817 Coronado Parkway, Fayetteville, died Monday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at noon Friday in H.M. Colvin Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. James A. Raye. Burial will be in Mt. Hebrew AME Zion Church cemetery in Parkton.

Mr. McKoy is survived by a son, Belvin McKoy Jr. of Fayetteville; two daughters, Patty McKoy and Renee McKoy, both of Fayetteville; two brothers, John H. McKoy and Herbie McKoy, both of Fayetteville; and a sister, Lona McLean of Irvington, N.J.

The public will be received today from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Robert D. Moon (dated Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997)

ROCKINGHAM -- Robert Dwayne Moon, 15, of 406 Elizabeth Ave. died Tuesday in UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday in Culdee Presbyterian Church cemetery by the Rev. Wayne Swanson.

Robert is survived by a brother, David Moon of Rockingham; a sister, Aimee Moon of Rockingham; and his maternal grandmother, Annie M. Brock of Lumberton.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Marks Funeral Home.

Mrs. Mary L. Wade (dated Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997)

DUNN -- Mrs. Mary Lucas Wade, 93, of Dunn died Tuesday in Carrolton of Dunn nursing home.

She was a member of Erwin Presbyterian Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Erwin Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Bob McCully. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Wade is survived by two sons, Leon Wade of Erwin and Edward H. Wade of Dunn; a daughter, Shirley DiGregorio of Pulaski, N.Y.; a sister, Pearl L. McDonald of Erwin; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Cromartie-Miller & Lee Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Edward H. Wade, 113 Fairfield Circle, Dunn.

Memorials may be made to Erwin Presbyterian Church, 109 N. 12th St., Erwin, N.C. 28339.

Jack C. Surles (dated Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997)

WADE -- Jack C. Surles, 68, of Route 1 died Tuesday in Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.

Mr. Surles was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Falcon, Mingo Masonic Lodge No. 206 AF & AM, a member of Yorkrite Scottish Rite and the Dunn Shrine Club. He was a salesman for McDonald Lumber Co.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Antioch Baptist Church by the Revs. Ken Prichard, Virgil Wilson and Wade Massengill. Burial with Masonic rites will be in Banner Chapel Church cemetery near Benson.

Mr. Surles is survived by his wife, Annie A. Surles of the home; two sons, Mark Surles of Falcon and Jeffrey “Jeff” Surles of Erwin; a daughter, Jackie S. Dennis of Dunn; and two grandsons.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Cromartie-Miller & Lee Funeral Home in Dunn and at other times at the home.

Henry F. Campbell (dated Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997)

MONCURE -- Henry Franklin Campbell, 93, of Moncure died Tuesday in Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Miller Funeral Home chapel in Sanford. Burial will be in Buffalo Cemetery in Sanford.

Mr. Campbell is survived by five daughters, Maxine Reeves and Frankie Glosson, both of Moncure, Maude Rogers of Baltimore, Peggy Clark of Kississimee, Fla., and Dorothy Hartley of Newland; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Ms. Helen C. Johnson (dated Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997)

SOUTHERN PINES -- Ms. Helen Clarie Johnson, 85, of Southern Pines died Monday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Southern Pines First Baptist Church by the Rev. John D. Stone. Arrangements are being handled by Powell Funeral Home.

Ms. Johnson is survived by a sister, Edna V. Whitman of Beaver Falls, Pa.; and two brothers, Edward T. Johnson of Suffolk, Va., and Stanley W. Johnson of Franklin, Va.

Memorials may be made to Southern Pines First Baptist Church, 200 E. New York Ave., Southern Pines, N.C. 28387.

Samuel L. Mason (dated Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997)

Samuel L. Mason, 87, of 1148 Sun Valley Road, Fayetteville, died Wednesday in his home.

Arrangements will be announced by Paye Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lillie A. Capers (dated Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997)

CLINTON -- Mrs. Lillie A. Capers, 67, of 1110 Renfrow Road died Sunday in Sampson Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Union Grove Free Will Baptist Church in Keener by Elder Ivan Green. Burial will be in Sandhills Cemetery.

Mrs. Capers is survived by three daughters, Patricia Murphy and Shelia Armwood, both of Clinton, and Diane Jones of Wilson; four sons, Edward Capers, Alton Capers, Ehurd Capers Jr. and Daniel Capers, all of Clinton; a sister, Sadie B. Williams of Springfield, Mass.; two brothers, Ike Jacobs and James Jacobs, both of Clinton; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The public will be received today from 1 to 6 p.m. at Brock Memorial & Worley Funeral Home.

Mrs. Rachel J. Fairley (dated Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997)

LAUREL HILL -- Mrs. Rachel Pearl Johnson Fairley, 53, of 22580 Bunch Road died Monday in Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Laurel Hill First Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Theodore Breeden. Burial will be in Johnson Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Fairley is survived by two sons, Reginald McPhatter of Laurel Hill and Kenneth McPhatter of Brunswick, Ga.; her stepmother, Creola Johnson of Laurel Hill; and three sisters, Jackie Bethea and Sarah Johnson, both of Laurel Hill, and Barbara Thomas of Virginia Beach, Va.

The public will be received today from 2 to 6 p.m. at Jackson Funeral Home in Laurinburg.

Robert ‘Rocky’ Coons (dated Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997)

RAEFORD -- Robert “Rocky” Coons, 62, of Raeford died Monday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

Mr. Coons was retired from the Army and was a Marine veteran. He was a former employee of Black and Decker.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the Main Post Cemetery on Fort Bragg by Father Kita.

Mr. Coons is survived by his wife, Maria Coons of the home; two sons, Robert M. Coons and Derek A. Coons, both of Virginia; three sisters, Bernadean Ball, Betty Coons and Eva Coons, all of Ohio; a brother, Ben Coons of Ohio; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at LaFayette Funeral Home in Fayetteville.

Mrs. Verter L. Cummings (dated Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997)

LAURINBURG -- Mrs. Verter Locklear Cummings, 90, of 1020 Deluca St. died Tuesday in Scotland Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Smithtown Church of God by the Rev. Numer Locklear and Howard Locklear Jr. Burial will be in Oxendine Cemetery.

Mrs. Cummings is survived by a daughter, Howard L. Bryant of Laurinburg; a son, Gilbert Cummings of Seaford, N.Y.; five sisters, Dora Locklear, Tillie Deese, Louise Locklear and Queen Locklear, all of Pembroke, and Zelma Hunt of Baltimore; a brother, Monroe Locklear of Red Springs; 14 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight at 7 at Thompson’s Funeral Home in Pembroke.
