CARTHAGE -- Allen Ray Mooney, 64, of 924 Lamms Grove Road died Saturday in his home.
He was formerly employed by Mile-Away Farm.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Piney Wood Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Charles Lassiter.
Mr. Mooney is survived by a brother, Harold Mooney of Carthage.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Fry-Prickett Funeral Home.
Mrs. Myrtle L. McPhail (dated Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997)
WADE -- Mrs. Myrtle Lucas McPhail, 85, of Route 2 died Wednesday in Golden Years Nursing Home in Falcon.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Culbreth Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church in Falcon by the Rev. Danny Nelson. Burial will be in Old Bluff Church cemetery.
Mrs. McPhail is survived by a son, Shearin McPhail of Wade; two daughters, Cathy Fann of Stedman and Faye Menefee of Richmond, Va.; a brother, Thomas Lucas of Falcon; two sisters, Mamie Lee of Wade and Lola Bagley of Godwin; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Cromartie-Miller & Lee Funeral Home in Dunn and at other times at the home.

Harold ‘Doc’ Pearce (dated Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997)
WHISPERING PINES -- Harold George “Doc” Pearce, 78, of Whispering Pines died Tuesday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Mr. Pearce was an Army medical corps veteran of World War II, serving as captain and administrator to Tripler Hospital in Honolulu. He retired from Blue Cross and Blue Shield, where he had served as vice president, and as president of the Utah Plan.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. December 4 in Community Presbyterian Church in Pinehurst by the Rev. Ben Bishop. Arrangements are being handled by Powell Funeral Home of Southern Pines.
Mr. Pearce is survived by his wife, Jo L. Pearce; three sons, Gary Pearce of Cary, Andy Pearce of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jay Pearce of Champaign, Ill.; and three grandchildren.

Lacy ‘Michael’ Ferguson (dated Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997)
Lacy L. “Michael” Ferguson, 66, of 663-2 Bartons Landing, Fayetteville, died Monday in Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Durham.
He was a retired civil service employee and a member of Southend Baptist Church.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Southend Baptist Church by the Rev. Clarence Patterson. Burial will be in Community Rest Cemetery in Red Springs. Arrangements are being handled by Tucker & Sons Funeral Home.
Mr. Ferguson is survived by his wife, Vicki Ferguson of the home; a son, Danny Ferguson of Colony, Texas; two daughters, Deborah Hayward of Anchorage, Alaska, and Darlene Brown of Orlando, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Joan Lewis of Fayetteville; a stepson, Jermeil Caldwell of Fayetteville; a brother, Alphonso Ferguson of Fayetteville; a sister, Mary Page of Raleigh; and nine grandchildren.
The public will be received Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church. The family will receive friends at the home of Mary Andrews, 695 Edgehills Road, Fayetteville.
James R. Norris Sr. (dated Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997)
SPRING LAKE -- Retired Air Force Master Sgt. James Robert Norris Sr., 50, of Spring Lake died Wednesday in Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Durham.
Arrangements will be announced by Adcock Funeral Home.
Lewis Flowers (dated Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997)
ROCKINGHAM -- Lewis Flowers, 86, of Rockingham died Saturday in Palmer Hinson Care Center.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Mt. Pisgah AME Zion Church by the Rev. Michael Massey. Burial will be in Northside Cemetery.
Mr. Flowers is survived by two sons, Robert Flowers and Bobby Ratliff, both of Rockingham; a daughter, Jacquelene Dockery of Rockingham; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
The public will be received today from 1 to 8 p.m. at Charles McNeill Funerals.
Mrs. Alice M. Conrad (dated Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997)
SANFORD -- Mrs. Alice Mahan Conrad, 89, of Westover Drive died Tuesday in Convalescent Center of Lee County.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in New Covenant Foursquare Church by the Rev. Dana Flood. Arrangements are being handled by Miller Funeral Home.
Mrs. Conrad is survived by two sisters, Grace Wessels of Dunedin, Fla., and Bertha Ringle of Sanford.

Mrs. Ruth Beal Vollrath, 87, of 2541 Sycamore St., Fayetteville, died Monday in Forest Hills Rest Home.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Tabor United Methodist Church cemetery by the Rev. H.B. Turlington. Arrangements are being handled by Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.
Mrs. Vollrath is survived by a sister, Mae Wallace of Fayetteville; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Oswald C. Walker Jr. (dated Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997)
HALLSBORO -- Oswald C. Walker Jr., 49, of Hallsboro died Monday in Elizabethtown Nursing Center.
The funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in Second St. Paul Baptist Church by the Rev. Joseph Bryant. Burial will be in Mt. Hebron Memorial Park. Arrangements are being handled by Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville.
Mr. Walker is survived by his mother, Villa W. Stanley of Hallsboro; four brothers, Booker T. Walker of Hallsboro, and Junior Stanley, Charles Stanley and Zachariah Stanley, all of Baltimore; and five sisters, Doris J. Byrd of Mt. Vernon, N.Y., Elouise Snowten of Whiteville, and Dollie J. Johnson, Addie M. Brown and Gladys Smith, all of Baltimore.
Mrs. Alicia M. Bailey (dated Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997)
ERWIN -- Mrs. Alicia M. Bailey, 30, of 528 N. 11th St. died Sunday in Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Harnett Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Dunn by the Rev. J.A. Burgess and Bishop Henry McLean. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery in Dunn.
Mrs. Bailey is survived by her husband, Joseph Bailey of Baltimore; her parents, the Rev. and Mrs. Eddie B. Thomas of Dunn; a sister, Satrina Thomas of Dunn; and two brothers, Andre Thomas and Derrick Thomas, both of Dunn.

Mrs. Bessie J. Norris (dated Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997)
BENSON -- Mrs. Bessie Johnson Norris, 82, of 805 W. Main St. died Tuesday in Britthaven of Harnett County in Dunn.
She was a homemaker.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Oliver’s Grove Baptist Church in Four Oaks by the Rev. James Bousman. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Norris is survived by a daughter, Esther N. McLamb of Benson; two sisters, Annie Jernigan of Benson and Margaret Carden of Durham; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

RED SPRINGS -- Mrs. Bernice Hilda Doersom, 81, of Red Springs died Wednesday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.
She was a member of Shannon Assembly of God.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Shannon Assembly of God. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Doersom is survived by a sister, Fern Stefan of Palm Bay, Fla.

LAURINBURG -- James Ernest Monroe, 86, of 517 Peden St. died Saturday in Edwin Morgan Center.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Nashville Baptist Church in Marston by the Rev. Theodore Hodges. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Monroe is survived by a daughter, Mary A. Harrington of Washington, D.C.; a son, Joseph McLeod of Freeport, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

James E. Wigglesworth (dated Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997)
MAXTON -- James E. Wigglesworth, 83, of Maxton died Tuesday in Autumn Care of Raeford nursing home.
He was a retired sexton for Prichard Memorial Baptist Church.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte by the Rev. Henrietta Carmichael. Arrangements are being handled by McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium in Laurinburg.
Mr. Wigglesworth is survived by a sister, Emily Joseph of Maxton.
Mrs. Elvira D. Cox (dated Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997)
BLADENBORO -- Mrs. Elvira Dove Cox, 75, of Bladenboro died Tuesday in Bladen County Hospital in Elizabethtown.
She owned and operated Cox’s Grill in Bladenboro for 38 years.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday in New Light Pentecostal Freewill Baptist Church by the Revs. William Ellis and Tom Dorman. Burial will be in Pinecrest Cemetery.
Mrs. Cox is survived by two sons, the Rev. Ronnie Cox of Bladenboro and Steve Cox of Lumberton; a daughter, Brenda Dean of Bladenboro; two brothers, Delmar Dove of Bladenboro and D.H. Dove of Rock Hill, S.C.; two sisters, Merle Shelley of Rock Hill and Betty Benkowski of Minneapolis; three granddaughters; three step-grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
