RED SPRINGS -- Bobby Steen, 68, of 3606 Old Maxton Road died Saturday in his home.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in South Hoke Baptist Church by the Rev. Tony Hunt. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Locklear & Son Funeral Home of Pembroke.
Mr. Steen is survived by his wife, Gerline L. Steen of the home; five sons, Bobby Steen Jr. of West Palm Beach, Fla., King J. Thompson and Tommy Thompson, both of Maxton, Willie Thompson of Cambridge, Ohio, and Charles Thompson of New York; five daughters, Charlene Steen of the home, Marlene Guthrie of Wagram, Treasa Ward of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Patty Steen and Donna Steen, both of Missouri; two brothers, Howard Steen Jr. of St. Louis and Ron Steen of Elleton, Mo.; 25 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight after 5 at the home.

Donald Earl St. Louis, 67, of Fayetteville died Sunday in Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Arrangements will be announced by Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.
Mrs. Lillie Smallwood (dated Tuesday, July 13, 1999)
Mrs. Lillie Smallwood, 88, of Route 2, Fayetteville, died Thursday in Highsmith-Rainey Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Greater First Baptist Church by the Rev. C.C. McLaughlin. Burial will be in Savannah Baptist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Smallwood is survived by five daughters, Piccola Miller and Yolanda R. George, both of Fayetteville, Evelyn Clemmons and Ollie A. Hopkins, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Shelby J. Lindsey of Swan Lake, N.Y.; four sons, the Rev. Hardy Smallwood Jr. and Rudolph L. Smallwood, both of Brooklyn, Donald L. Smallwood of Staten Island, N.Y., and Lionel M. Smallwood of Bridgeport, Conn.; a sister, Lucille Spivey of Windsor; 64 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; and 80 great-great-grandchildren.
The public will be received today from 2 to 7 p.m. at H.M. Colvin Funeral Home.

SPRING LAKE -- Larry Reaves, 51, of 124 Lee St. died Sunday in his home.

Ms. Lela D. McLemore (dated Tuesday, July 13, 1999)
CLINTON -- Ms. Lela Elizabeth Dudley McLemore, 81, of 237 Big Piney Grove Road died Monday in her home.
Ms. McLemore was a member of Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church. She worked for Hamilton Beach Corp. before retiring and was a homemaker.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church by the Revs. Dudley Neal, Ray Smith and Michael Shook. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Ms. McLemore is survived by two daughters, Janet M. Jordan and Diana M. Cox, both of Clinton; a son, Norbert McLemore of Clinton; four sisters, Eva Peterson, Lula Peterson and Gloria Hudson, all of Clinton, and Lora Cobb of Charlotte; three brothers, John H. Parker of Clyo, Ga., Carey E. Dudley of Stedman and Carl J. Dudley of Clinton; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Royal-Hall Funeral Home.
Ms. Eva M. McGirt (dated Tuesday, July 13, 1999)
BENNETTSVILLE, S.C. -- Ms. Eva Mae McGirt, 69, of Bennettsville, formerly of Maxton, N.C., died Saturday in Marlboro Hospital.
The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Reedy Branch Baptist Church in Clio by the Rev. Fess Bethea. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Ms. McGirt is survived by a son, James W. McGirt of Bennettsville; a daughter, Rosa M. Kollack of Bennettsville; a brother, John H. McGirt of Clio; six sisters, Emmalee Smith, Mary L. Bethea, Mae B. Pratt and Christine James, all of Maxton, Betty Taylor of Durham, N.C., and Jackie McGirt of Whiteville, N.C.
The public will be received today from noon to 6:30 p.m. at Bakers Funeral Home.
Thomas M. Mauro (dated Tuesday, July 13, 1999)
LUMBERTON -- Thomas M. Mauro, 70, of Lumberton died Sunday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Biggs Funeral Home.
Mr. Mauro is survived by his wife, Barbara O. Mauro of the home; three sons, Robert D. Mauro of West Palm Beach, Fla., Dean Locklear of South Belmar, N.J., and Thomas M. Mauro of Farmingdale, N.J.; three daughters, Angelina Scarborough of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Tammyse M. Davis of Pearl River, La., and Dawn M. Gaasbeck of Eatontown, N.J.; a brother, Michael Mandaro of Oakhurst, N.J.; a sister, Elizabeth ‘‘Chickie’’ Aldarelli of Asbury Park, N.J.; and five grandchildren.

SANFORD -- Terry Wayne Matthews, 49, of 2133 Tranway Road died Sunday in UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home. Burial will be in Lee Memory Gardens.
Mr. Matthews is survived by a son, Joseph D. Matthews III of Hawaii; his mother, Eunice T. Matthews of Sanford; brother, Jerry M. Matthews of Broadway; and three sisters, Patricia Allen and Jean Sessoms, both of Sanford, and Brenda Dinkins of Florida.

HOLDEN BEACH -- Fred Lowry, 86, of Holden Beach, formerly of Pembroke, died Sunday.

Mr. Lowry is survived by his wife, Carolyn S. Lowry of the home; a daughter, Nina Faulk of Holden Beach; three stepsons, Greg Neville of Holden Beach, Perry Neville of Ash and Kevin Neville of Chapel Hill; a sister, Hannah Stanton of Glenolden, Pa.; and 11 grandchildren.

Ms. Leila C. Johnson, 93, of Fayetteville died Monday in her home.

CLINTON -- Raeford T. Jones, 82, of 514C Laurelwood Apartments died Monday in Sampson Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Clinton Free Will Holiness Church by the Revs. Lynn Blackburn and Keith Hatcher. Burial will be in Devotional Gardens in Warsaw.
Mr. Jones is survived by a son, Bennie Jones of Roseboro; two daughters, Linda Horne of Roseboro and Betty Moore of Clinton; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Joseph L. Johnson (dated Tuesday, July 13, 1999)
RAEFORD -- Joseph Leonard Johnson, 56, of Raeford, formerly of Laurinburg, died Friday in Autumn Care Nursing Home.
Mr. Johnson was an electrician before retiring. He was an Army veteran. Mr. Johnson was a member of Caledonia United Methodist Church.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Caledonia United Methodist Church by the Revs. Jim Thompson and Richard Stone. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Christine M. Johnson of Laurinburg; a daughter, Martha J. Helms of Monroe; a son, Joseph L. Johnson Jr. of Greensboro; his mother, Elizabeth S. Johnson of Laurinburg; a sister, Patricia Campbell of Laurel Hill; two brothers, Ray Johnson of Anderson, S.C., and Richard Johnson of Laurinburg; and a grandchild.

Walter Johnson Sr. (dated Tuesday, July 13, 1999)
Walter Johnson Sr., 57, of 1984 Bingham Drive, Fayetteville, died Sunday in his home.
Mr. Johnson retired from the N.C. Highway Patrol after 18 years. He owned Golden Gate Mobile Home Park and Green Acres Mobile Home Park.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Reeves Funeral Home in Hope Mills by Buddy Price. Burial will be in LaFayette Memorial Park.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Shirley R. Johnson; a son, Walter ‘‘Jaye’’ Johnson Jr. of Wilson; a stepson, Ellis Ehle Jr. of Fayetteville; a stepdaughter, Joetta Brown of Fayetteville; a brother, Tapley Johnson Jr. of Charleston, S.C.; two sisters, Linda Singer of Wake Forest and Sandra Fyske of Meadford Lakes, N.J.; and a granddaughter.

Mrs. Joan T. Johnson (dated Tuesday, July 13, 1999)
Mrs. Joan Tysinger Johnson, 63, of 810 Executive Place, Fayetteville, died Sunday in Lenior Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Johnson was a volunteer at Highsmith-Rainey Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Royal-Hall Funeral Home by the Revs. Bruce Martin and E.C. Mattocks. Burial will be in Wells Chapel Church cemetery.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by two sons, Frankie Johnson of Fayetteville and Nelson Johnson of Kinston; her mother, Alda Tysinger of Lillington; two sisters, Lib Byrd of Buies Creek and Martha Bedsole of Alexandria, Va.; and a granddaughter.
The family will receive friends at the home of Howard Boney, 5681 Bonnettsville Road, Clinton.
