Eloise Andrews-Anderson
Eloise Andrews-Anderson of Winston-Salem died March 7 after an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Captoria Scales and Tennyson Wright; her first husband, Rudy Andrews; her last husband, Rev. Robert L. Anderson; and two sons, Gregory and Rudy Andrews.
Surviving are two daughters, Renee J. Andrews of Winston-Salem and Sabrina Anderson-Brown of Raleigh; a son, Joseph L. Anderson of Lewisville, Texas; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a devoted friend, Gloria Moore.
A private memorial service was held in Raleigh.
Lala Bullin Tesh
Lala Bullin Tesh, 90, of Winston-Salem died March 12 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born April 29, 1914, in Surry County to Gabe and Maggie Wood Bullin. She attended First Christian Church of Clemmons. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Keller Tesh; a son, Keller Wayne Tesh; a great-granddaughter, Ashley Sykes; four brothers; and five sisters.
Surviving are three daughters, Joan T. Meadows and husband Eddie of Clemmons, Peggy T. Dull and husband Frank of Kernersville and Kay T. Haas and husband Bob of Advance; a daughter-in-law, Linda Tesh of Advance; a brother, Grover Bullin of Wilson; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a special caregiver, Becky Wood.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Stacy Abernathy officiating.
Jacquolin Matlock Beshears
Jacquolin Matlock Beshears, 68, of Lexington, formerly of Clemmons, died March 8 at her home. She was born in Forsyth County on August 20, 1936, to James Paul Matlock and Doris Lonsford Matlock. Retired from Blue Cross and Blue Shield, she was an avid gardener, seamstress and cook. She was a member of Coggins Memorial Baptist Church, where she began a quilting ministry. Her husband, Billy Joe Beshears, and her parents preceded her in death.
Surviving are four daughters, Robyn Vernon, Gina Nelson and husband Chuck, Jill Greene and husband Ken, and Joy Hagy and husband George; three granddaughters, Katy Greene, Ashley Nelson and Amber Nelson; and a brother, James Dean Matlock and wife Elsie.
A private graveside service was held at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons with Rev. Lowell Askins officiating.
Rosemary Garner
Rosemary “Moss” Garner, 58, of Clemmons died March 7 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born in Rowan County on April 7, 1946, to the late Sidney Thomas and Ruth Boger Garner. She was employed by Transcend Services. She had also been employed as a medical transcriptionist by the Veterans Administration Medical Centers in Salisbury and Winston Salem, and also at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. She had been a pianist for many years, and had a love of children and her church music.
Surviving are two sisters, Pat Garrett and husband Ron of Winston Salem and Carroll Kisner and husband Bill of Winston Salem; a brother, Thomas Garner of Winston Salem; several nieces and nephews; special great-niece, Savannah Ellis; and special friend, Dottie Choplin.
A graveside service was held at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Ardis Payne officiating.
Alton Elon Bodenheimer
Alton Elon Bodenheimer, 82, formerly of Rural Hall and Winston-Salem, died unexpectedly March 11 at Village Care of King following a brief illness. He was born October 21, 1922, in Forsyth County, the son of the late E.R. and Daisy Styers Bodenheimer. He was a faithful member of Nazareth Lutheran Church in Rural Hall. He was a former co-owner of B&G Pie Co. in Winston-Salem and a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He was a 32 degree Mason in the Scottish Rites of Freemasonry, a member of King Lodge No. 722 AF&AM, and was a member of the Oasis Shrine Temple. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Lillie Sands Bodenheimer, in 1973; his second wife, Nina Hemrick Ketchie-Bodenheimer, in 2003; and a sister, Annie Lee Bodenheimer, in 1983.
Surviving are a daughter, Christine B. Darnell, of Yadkinville; three grandchildren, Candace Darnell of Clemmons and Jason Darnell and Josh Darnell, both of Advance; three great-grandchildren, Jonathan Darnell of Emerald Isle, Taylor Miller of Clemmons and Emily Darnell of Winston-Salem; two stepsons, David and Glenda Ketchie of Lewisville and Steve and Charlene Ketchie of King; three stepgrandchildren, Jon and Kathleen Ketchie of Yadkinville, Debbie Wagoner of Mocksville and Andrew Ketchie of Durham; and a stepgreat-grandson, Sean Wagoner of Mocksville.
A memorial service was held at Nazareth Lutheran Church with Rev. Donald Herb officiating.
Betty Wood Tesh
Betty Wood Tesh, 75, of Clemmons died March 11 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born February 26, 1930, in Forsyth County, to Erastus and Margaret Newsome Wood. She attended Maplewood Baptist Church in Yadkinville. She was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Marshall Tesh Jr. and brother Jack Wood.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Cottrell; a son, Skip Hill and wife Sharon of Yadkinville; three granddaughters, Sheena, Summer, and Savannah Hill; a brother, Kenneth Wood and wife Carlene of Walnut Cove; three sisters, Rosemary Fulk of Kernersville, Doris Stone and husband Phonso, and Tommie Lee DeViney and husband Jim, all of Winston Salem; along with special nieces Donna, Margaret, Vickie, Judy, Robin, Renne, Sharon and Melody; a nephew, Steven; three stepsons, Ronnie and Rick Tesh of Austin, Texas, and Doug Tesh of Winston-Salem; and a stepgrandson, Adam.
Funeral servicew were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Charlie Martin and Jimmy Lancaster officiating. Burial followed in Westlawn Gardens of Memory.
Marvin LaFayette Wagstaff
Marvin LaFayette Wagstaff, 81, of Kernersville died March 8 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born June 20, 1923, in Chase City, Va., to Eugene Haywood and Ellen Falls Wagstaff. He was a member of Oaklawn Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Senior Men’s Sunday school class. He was retired from A.C. Corp.with 35 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion in Chase City, Va., for 60 years. He was a veteran of Word War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He enjoyed woodworking, especially building clocks.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Wagstaff of the home; two daughters, Nancy Bellamy and husband Maynard of Clemmons, Regina Skeens and husband Chet of Winston-Salem; two granddaughters, Autumn and Lauren; and his friends at Wendy’s in Kernersville.
Funeral services were held at Oaklawn Baptist Church with Rev. James Saul and Dr. Ray Hamilton officiating. Burial followed in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
Luna Mae Sink Brewer
Luna Mae Sink Brewer, 70, died March 12 in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Born December 10, 1934, in Davidson County, she was a daughter of Lawrence C. Sink Sr. and Perry E. Miller Sink. She came to Myrtle Beach in 1965, and was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. She worked for AT&T Western Electric for eight years, Ford Ready Mix for 30 years and NHC Healthcare for more than four years. She was a charter member of the National Association of Women in Construction.
Surviving are five brothers, Charles Lee Sink and wife Audrey, Jerry M. Sink and Lawrence Sink Jr., all of Clemmons, Bobby Wayne Sink of Lexington and Barry Lane Sink and wife Sheila of Holly Ridge; three sisters, Janice Jean Forest and husband Carlton of Clemmons, Libby Gay Leonard and husband Bryce of Lexington, Nancy Elizabeth Sink of Myrtle Beach; many nieces and nephews; and close friends, Nancy and Tom Sprinkle of Myrtle Beach.
Funeral services were held at Reedy Creek Baptist Church in Lexington, and burial followed in the church cemetery.
Gilbert William Burke
Gilbert William Burke, 62, of Clemmons died March 7 at his home. He was born December 21, 1942, in Erie, Pa., to Thomas D. and Bernadette Brand Burke. He served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Decatur, was an avid golfer and was of the Catholic faith. He was formerly employed with Unijax in Charlotte, and was presently employed with Mac Papers Co. in Greensboro. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, a twin brother, Wilbert F. (Pee Wee) Burke and Richard Burke.
Surviving are his fiancee, Ann Saladino of the home; two sons, Christopher Burke of Charlotte and Peter Burke of Wilmington; a daughter, Rachelle Reynolds and husband Dana of Madison; his grandson, Hudson Cox; two brothers, Thomas Burke and wife, Phyllis of Waterford, Pa., and Paul Burke and wife Selina, of Potomac, Va.; and a sister, Sister Paula Burke O.S.B. of Erie, Pa.
A funeral Mass was held at Holy Family Catholic Church with Fr. Michael Buttner and Dr. Bill Ireland officiating. Entombment followed in Westlawn Gardens of Memory Mausoleum Chapel.
Elizabeth Griffith Young
Elizabeth Griffith Young, 90, of Winston-Salem died July 26. She was born February 12, 1916, to James F. and Maude Long Griffith of Clemmons. She retired after many years of dedicated service as a bookkeeper at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. She was a member of Ardmore United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Phillip Edward Young.
Surviving are a son, James Edward Young; a daughter, Sara Jane Morris; a granddaughter Michelle Morris; a grandson, Matthew Morris; a special cousin, Nell Hunter; and numerous friends.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Minister Wayne Branch and Minister Marilyn Weiler officiating. Burial followed at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
Lettie Joann Riddle Pilcher
Lettie Joann Riddle Pilcher, 70, of Yadkinville died July 29 at Forsyth Medical Center, She was born June 29, 1936, to E.L. “Toots” and Hazel Hauser Riddle. She was a member of Huntsville Baptist Church and was the pianist until her health declined. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Eldridge Pilcher Sr.; and her.
Surviving are her mother, Hazel Hauser Riddle; her children, Connie Spillman and husband Paul of Davie County and Reggie Pilcher and wife Lisa and Lorie Lane and husband Davis, both of Yadkinville; grandchildren Marshall Spillman and wife Sharon, Leann Atkins and husband Larry, Ember White and husbadn Jarratt and Adam Pilcher and wife Pearl; great-grandchildren Kayla Spillman, Austin Aldridge and Lacy White; sister Faye Morgan and husband Ron of Clemmons; and brother Randy Riddle and wife Ann Marie of Charlotte.
Funeral services were held at Huntsville Baptist Churchwith Rev. Dennis Bell and Rev. Grady Trivette officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Howard Roger Welfare Sr.
Howard Roger Welfare Sr., 83, of Winston-Salem died July 25 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born June 6, 1923, in Forsyth County to John Frank and Mabel Wheatley Welfare. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943 to May 1946. He spent 50 years in the metal-finishing industry, retiring in 1996. He was a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, where he was also a member of the Motsinger Bible Class, chairman of the Administration Board and served on various committees. His hobbies included skydiving, accomplishing his first solo jump at the age of 80; and raising and showing llamas. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 59 years, Mildred Kimel Welfare.
Surviving are his wife, whom he married in June 2005, Barbara Copple Welfare of the home; a son, Howard Roger Welfare Jr. and wife Sharon of Tamassee, S.C.; a daughter, Carol Robinson and husband Jim of Charleston, S.C.; four grandchildren, Charles Roger Welfare, Elizabeth Jane Melvin, Amanda Joy Robinson and Carrie Virginia Robinson; a stepgrandson, Ty Ray Robinson; four great-grandchildren, Molly Melvin, Camille, James and Meredith Welfare; Barbara’s children, Randall Copple and wife Jennie and Deena Oates; and four grandchildren, Devin and Dylan Oates and Tony and Irene Adames; a great-granddaughter, Michelle Norris; two sisters, Mary Jarvis and husband Harold and Helen Graham, both of Clemmons; and a brother, Fred Welfare and wife Nancy of Wilmington.
Funeral services were held at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church with Rev. Ken Eller and Rev. Joe Collins officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Ruth Jenkins Mays
Ruth Jenkins Mays, 85, of Valley Nursing Center in Taylorsville died July 29.
Surviving are are a son, Glenn Mays of the Bethlehem community in Alexander County; a daughter, Margaret M. Jimison and husband John of Taylorsville; a granddaughter, Angie Nail and husband Rodney of Lewisville; and two great-grandchildren, Ryley Charleston Nail and Richard Garrett Nail of Lewisville.
Funeral services were held at St. Luke Lutheran Church with Rev. Andrew Miller and Rev. Dr. Bill Mims officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
William Dustin Stewart
William “Dusty” Dustin Stewart, 38, of Winston-Salem died July 30 at Forsyth Medical Center after a battle with cancer. He was born July 30, 1968, in Forsyth County. He served in the U.S. Navy during Desert Storm. He was a big fan of South Little League Baseball. He was preceded in death by grandparents, William and Eva Woodle, Ruth Hurd Hill, Thurman Alton Stewart Sr. and William E. Peeks.
Surviving are his children, Brandon Stewart, Joshuah Cooper and Megan Cooper; his parents, Janet Woodle Daniel of Winston-Salem, Alan Hill (Joyce) of East Bend, Thurman and Alton Stewart Jr. (Betty) of Tobaccoville; grandparents, Elizabeth Stewart, George V. Hill and Gladys Peeks; a sister, Karen Lynn Stewart of Lewisville; a brother, Daniel Alan Hill of Arlington, Va.; two nieces, Margaret Leigh Bondurant and Madison Leigh Snider; several aunts and uncles; the mother of his children, Carol Ann Cooper Stewart of Florida; and his mother and father-in-law, Ernie and Louise Cooper of Alabama.
A graveside service was held in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Thomas Albert officiating. military rites were provided by the V.F.W. Memorial Honor Guard.
Ruth Whitaker Cooper
Ruth Whitaker Cooper, 89, of Mocksville died July 27 at Autumn Care. She was born October 2, 1916, in White County, Tenn., to David and Lou Smith Whitaker. She was a member of South Fork Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarice D. Cooper; and a son, Charles.
Surviving are three sons, Clifton Cooper and wife Wilma of Mocksville, Carl Cooper and wife Doris of Lewisville and Perry Cooper and wife Diane of East Bend; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held at Grandview Cemetery in Maryville, Tenn.
Harry Milton Smith
Harry Milton Smith, 90, of Winston-Salem died July 29 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born September 11, 1915, to the late Henry and Ollie Medlin Smith. He was a former member at Holloway Christian Church in Durham. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War II. He later retired from American Tobacco Co. after 43 1/2 years of service.
Surviving are his wife, Stamie Hege Smith of the home; two nieces, Shirley Pressley and husband Grover and Billie McKnight; and nephew Ricky Clark and wife Denise, all of Clemmons.
Funeral services were held at Parklawn Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Gary Myers officiating. Entombment followed.
Voyle Vogler Conrad
Voyle Vogler “Tunk” Conrad, 89, of Lewisville died April 17 at his home. He was born April 27, 1917, in Forsyth County. His parents were Flossie and Vernon Conrad in Lewisville where he was raised and attended school. He was a lifetime member of the Lewisville United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran, who served in World War II where he was awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze and Silver Stars and he survived D-Day. He was married to Ruth Margaret Martin for 63 years. He was employed for most of his working years as a supervisor at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. in Winston-Salem. He loved gardening, hunting, being outdoors and being with his family and friends.
Surviving are his wife; his children, Kenneth Martin Conrad, James Vogler Conrad and Kaye Conrad Patterson; six grandchildren, Leah Catherine Conrad and Kyle Johnson Conrad of Davidson, Christopher Vogler Conrad and Lily Richardson Conrad of Atlanta, Ga., and Richard Larry Patterson III and Conrad Rosville Patterson of Lewisville; a brother, Gray Conrad of Pfafftown; and a sister, Sybilla Crawford of Lewisville.
Funeral services and burial were held at Lewisville United Methodist Church.
Mary Ann Simpson Deese
Mary Ann Simpson Deese, 82, of Advance, the widow of David Mack Deese, died April 15 at Bermuda Terrace. She was born March 31, 1925, in Charlotte. She was a charter member of Commonwealth United Methodist Church of Charlotte. She loved baking, needlework and traveling.
Surviving are a son, David Deese and wife Kay of Clemmons; two granddaughters, Tammy Chipman and husband Tommy of Lewisville and Lynne Teeter of Lake Norman; and four great-grandchildren, Ashley, Emily, James and Marshall.
A graveside service was held at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte.
Charlie Garfield Grimes
Charlie Garfield Grimes, 94, died April 15 at Village Care of King. He was born in Wilkes County on October 19, 1912, to George Benjamin and Mary Ellen Hicks Grimes. He worked with the Clarence Kiger Sawmill in Rural Hall and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cara Belle Harrold Grimes, on May 23, 1962; a son, Charles Ray Grimes, a sister and two brothers.
Surviving are four children, Jimmy Lee Grimes of San Antonio, Texas, Mike Grimes and wife Laura of King, Janice Freeman and husband William of Clemmons, and Ricky Grimes of North Wilkesboro; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Zion Baptist Church in Hayes with Rev. John A. Harrold officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Fannie B. Drane Jones
Fannie B. Drane Jones, 88, of Advance died April 15. She was born October 14, 1918, in Forsyth County to Samuel Wright Blakely and Flora Ann Yates Blakely. She was a homemaker for most of her life and a faithful member of Bible Baptist Church in Clemmons. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Jones, and a son, William Michael Drane, who died in 1974.
Surviving are by four daughters, Becky Watkins and husband Richard of Lewisville, Sandra Yarboro and husband Bennie of Winston-Salem, Glenda Snow of Yadkinville and Debbie Jones and husband Don of Clemmons; four sons, Donnie Drane and wife Pam of Pinnacle, Bobby Drane of East Bend, Terry Drane and wife Linda of Clemmons and Tony Drane and wife Donna of Winston-Salem; 15 grandchildren, Andy, Tina, Tara, Peter, Darren, Matthew, MaKayla, Stephen, Misti, Katei, Monty, Michael, Ken Jr., Chad and Tony; 16 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandson; a stepdaughter, Margaret Cline; a stepson, Raymond Jones; two sisters, Maude Trent and Myrtle Jones; and six brothers, Carl Blakely, Horace Blakely, Will Blakely, Monroe Blakely, Gene Blakely and Ernest Blakely.
Funeral services were held at Bible Baptist Church in Clemmons with Pastor Don Jones officiating. Burial followed at Clemmons First Baptist Church Cemetery.
