Jason Michael Fisher
Jason Michael Fisher, 22, of Winston-Salem died November 6. He was born November 14, 1981, to Vanessa Martin Fisher and Ralph Michael Fisher in Winston-Salem. His public school education was in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County schools and Forsyth Technical Community College.
Surviving are his parents; three sisters, Jasmine Fisher, Michelle Etheridge and husband Matthew of Greensboro and Alexseil Parker of Charlotte; maternal grandparents John and Lillian Martin; paternal grandmother Mary Fisher; four uncles, Rev. Christopher Martin and wife Michelle of Detroit, MI, Talmadge Fisher and wife Mamie, Kenneth Fisher and Reginald Fisher; three aunts, Deidra Cherry and husband Dwayne, Angela Manning and husband Robert of Clemmons and Debra Anthony and husband Cecil of Virginia Beach, VA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Christopher Martin officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery.
Glenn Philip Moser
Glenn Philip Moser, 79, of Winston-Salem, died November 7 at Transylvania Community Hospital in Brevard. Born in Lewisville on October 26, 1925, to Sidney Thomas and Carrie Mock Moser, he was one of six children. He was drafted in the Army in 1943 and served in the 100th Infantry Division with honor and valor receiving the Bronze Star. He was later employed in the Research and Development Department of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company until his retirement in 1986. He joined Lewisville United Methodist Church in 1935 and remained an active member serving on various committees including as a member of the Board of Trustees, as a teacher for the Wesleyan Sunday School class and as church treasurer. Always the student, he was an avid reader, enjoyed his hobbies, was a bird watcher and a good gardener. He focused on family, church, work and sports, serving as treasurer for Southwest Little League and score keeper for games. In retirement, he volunteered in the Pharmacy of Crisis Control. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, S.T. and Richard; sister Dorothy Holder; and niece Joanie Leigh Moser.
Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Wanda Woosley Moser; stepsons Arthur A. Holleman III and wife Robin of Lake Norman and Sam Andrew Holleman and wife Donna of Anchorage, AK; a grandson, James Andrew Holleman of Anchorage; and former daughters-in-law Linda Perryman Holleman of Terrell and Marybeth Scotchie Holleman of Anchorage; sisters Louise Reynolds of Lewisville and Pauline Longest of Fayetteville; sisters-in-law Chickie Moser of Winston-Salem and Clara Moser of Lewisville; and several nieces and nephews including Dare Holder Reich of Lewisville, and Terri Moser Vogler of Yadkinsville.
Funeral services were held at First United Methodist Church in Brevard with Rev. Fred Jordan and Rev. C. Edward Roy officiating. A memorial service was held at Lewisville United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Turner officiating.
Viena Julian
Viena “Julie” Julian, 109, a resident of Vienna Village in Pfafftown died November 8. She was born October 25, 1895, in Rowan County to Henry and Nancy Cauble. Before her marriage, she worked as a trained milliner in Taylorsville and Fayetteville. As a buyer, she traveled to Baltimore and Washington, D.C. In 1919 she married Sidney H. Julian. They resided in Baden and Newport News, VA, before moving to Winston-Salem in 1924. She was the oldest member of Augsburg Lutheran Church. She and Sidney were among its founding members and devoted themselves to the building of the present West Fifth Street church. A faithful worker for the needs of the church, she was an honored lifetime member of the Women’s Auxiliary and the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary. She was preceded in death by her husband and their son, Dale.
Surviving are her daughter, Nancy of the home; and a number of nieces and nephews in North Carolina, Columbia, SC, and Orlando, FL.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Dr. Ronald Rinn officiating. Burial followed in Forsyth Memorial Park.
Edith Moser Smith
Edith Moser “Tootsie” Smith, 85, of Clemmons died November 10 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born in Forsyth County on April 24, 1919, to Charles and Lillie Binkley Moser. She was a member of Church of Christ at Warner’s Chapel and had been employed at Hanes Hosiery and Ray Snyder Hosiery Mill in Clemmons. She was preceded in death by her husband, E.A. Smith Jr.
Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Church of Christ at Warner’s Chapel with Paul Kirkpatrick officiating, and burial followed in the church cemetery.
Frankie Henning Hinshaw
Frankie Henning Hinshaw, 58, of East Bend died November 12 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born April 13, 1946, in Forsyth County to Frank and Mozelle Hobson Henning. She was a member of East Bend Friends Meeting. She was employed at Hoots Memorial Hospital for 16 years. She was a devoted animal lover, especially to her dachshund, “Miss Priss.” She was preceded in death by her parents.
Surviving are her husband, Rex Hinshaw of the home; a son, Jeff Hinshaw and wife Laura of Yadkinville; two grandchildren, Casey Hinshaw and Ben Hinshaw, both of Yadkinville; her aunts, Ann Matthews and husband Willard of Lewisville and Erie Mae Russell and husband Dewey and Marie Williams, both of East Bend; an uncle, Charlie Ray Hobson of East Bend; and numerous cousins.
Funeral services were held at the Huff Funeral Home Chapel in East Bend with Rev. Elisha Robertson and Rev. Jim Hunt officiating. Burial followed in the East Bend Friends Cemetery.
Christal McDaniel Houck
Christal McDaniel Houck, 33, of Clemmons died November 12 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born May 6, 1971, in Davie County to W. Floyd and Margie Barnes McDaniel. She was an employee of Winston-Salem Health Care.
Surviving are her husband, Dennis James Houck of the home; her parents, Margie and Jimmy Lowery and Floyd and Trudy McDaniel, all of Mocksville; four brothers, Roger McDaniel and wife Kathy of Mocksville, Terry McDaniel and wife Ann of Cooleemee, Randy McDaniel of Mocksville and Mark McDaniel of Cooleemee; a half sister, Stacey McDaniel of Cooleemee; a stepsister, Tammy Foster of Mocksville; a stepbrother, James Matthew Williams of Mocksville; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel with Rev. Shelby Harbour officiating, and burial followed at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons.
Kenneth Gray Scott
Kenneth Gray Scott, 62, of Sherrills Ford died November 11 at Forsyth Medical Center after a long battle with cancer. He was born July 14, 1942, in Davidson County to Charles Odell and Mary Craver Scott. He spent most of his life in the Arcadia community of Davidson County. He worked for McLean Trucking Co. for 17 years. In 1986 he started Scott’s Construction and later became a licensed building contractor. In 2000 he and his wife moved to Lake Norman, where he enjoyed working crossword puzzles and reading. He also loved to fish and was a member of the Lake Norman Striper Swipers. He especially loved to go fishing at Davis Island on the Outer Banks with his fishing buddies. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Merle of the home; his three children, Keith Scott of Winston-Salem, Angela Scott of Clemmons and Kim Scott and fiance Chip of Kernersville; his grandson, Zach of Winston-Salem; his sister, Mary Ann Scott and husband Farrell of Wilmington; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A graveside service was held at Westlawn Gardens of Memory with Rev. Tamara Wensil officiating.
Edwin Albert Briggs Sr.
Edwin Albert Briggs Sr., 80, of Pfafftown died November 13 at his home. He was born March 10, 1924, in Dutchess County, NY, to the late William Lee Hamberger and Marie Briggs. He was a member of Lewisville United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Britt Kelsey Briggs; a son, John Briggs of Cheraw, SC; and a son-in-law, Gary Fedchock.
Surviving are two sons, Bill Briggs and wife Becky Connelly of Advance and Edwin A. Briggs Jr. and wife Gini of Charlotte; a daughter, Carole Fedchock of Staunton, VA; a daughter-in-law, Mary Sue Briggs of Cheraw, SC; six grandchildren, Christine Fedchock Kelley and husband Chuck of Staunton, VA, Robert G. Fedchock and wife Kim of Gainesville, GA; Melissa J. Briggs of Columbia, SC, Melanie A. Briggs and Marjorie A. Briggs, both of Charlotte, and Lee Connelly Briggs of New York City; a great-grandson, Nicholas Fedchock of Gainesville, GA; two sisters, Nancy Beddoe and Barbara Peters, both of Poughkeepsie, NY; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Charles Turner officiating.
Jean Carrol Durbin Alman
Jean Carrol Durbin Alman, 70, of Clemmons died November 9.
A memorial service was held at Shiloh United Methodist Church.
Patricia Dull Mock
Patricia Dull Mock, 60, of Lewisville died November 12 at The Elms at Tanglewood. She was born April 12, 1944, in Forsyth County to Curtis F. and Edith Dull Stewart. She was a member of Warners Chapel Church of Christ and was retired from Hospitality Interiors.
Surviving are her husband, Dewey Mock of the home; a daughter, Shanon Ziehr of Dallas, TX; a son, Tim Mock and wife Vivian of Pfafftown; four grandchildren, Alyssa and Brock Ziehr and Nicholas and Aaron Mock; four sisters, Janet Stewart, Bonnie Stonestreet, Connie Hauser and Debbie Stewart; and three brothers, Johnny, Ronnie and Steve Stewart.
Funeral services were held at Warners Chapel Church of Christ with Paul Kirkpatrick officiating, and burial followed in the church cemetery.
Ethel Hauser Hart
Ethel Hauser Hart, 85, died November 13 at Clemmons Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born November 29, 1918, in Forsyth County to the late O.H. and Pearl Long Hauser. She was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul O. Hart; a granddaughter, Heather C. Ervin; a grandson, Chris Ervin; and brothers William “Albert” Hauser and James R. Hauser.
Surviving are her daughter, Rita Hart Ervin and husband William “Bill” Ervin of Clemmons; two sisters, Mary Pitts and Jean Lander of Winston-Salem; a sister-in-law, Irma Hart Badger and brother-in-law Clyde Hart of West Jefferson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held at Union Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Wiley C. Guthrie officiating.
Deborah Hutton Weiser
Deborah Hutton Weiser, 48, of Clemmons died at her home March 7 after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Roanoke, Va., on January 23, 1957, to Otey and Mary Etta Angell Hutton. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and taught computer lab at Marvin Ward Elementary School and Clemmons Elementary School. She also taught at Clemmons Moravian Pre-School.
Surviving are her husband, Richard E. Weiser Jr. of the home; a daughter, Mary Rebecca Hope Weiser; three sons, Richard Edward Weiser III, Matthew Ryan Weiser and Michael Robert Wesier; a daughter-in-law, Jackeline Weiser; and a friend, Toni Sacco.
Funeral services were held at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Mark Courts, Rev. Al Gilbert and Rev. Truett Williams officiating.
Nellie Madison Doty Boyer
Nellie Madison Doty Boyer, 95, of Clemmons died March 12. She was born June 7, 1909, in Forsyth County to the late Isaac W. and Lula Milraney Doty. She was a member of Clemmons First Baptist Church, where she attended as long as her health permitted. She was preceded in death by her three sisters; her two brothers; and her husband, Sidney Monroe Boyer, who died February 12, 1964.
Surviving are a son, Clinton Norris Boyer and wife Frances of Advance; a daughter, Ada Lou McBride of Clemmons; three grandchildren, Larry Boyer and wife Linda of Zebulon, Randy Boyer and wife Janice of Advance and Kathy McBride Williamson a and husband Mark of Rougemont; three great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held at Clemmons First Baptist Church.
Pride Leo Shore
Pride Leo Shore, 91, of Winston-Salem died March 9 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was a native of East Bend and a member of St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Carrie Thomas Shore; two sons, Pride Edwin Shore and wife Willaseaina and Thomas Nathaniel Shore and wife Gloria of Winston-Salem; three grandsons; five granddaughters; a sister, Joyce Wharton, and a brother-in-law, Monroe Wharton of East Bend; a sister-in-law, Annie Pearl Shore of Lewisville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, distant relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Joseph R. Samuels officiating. Burial followed in Benbow Chapel AME Church Cemetery in East Bend.
Cindy Lou Elliott
Cindy Lou Elliott, 45, of Pfafftown died March 10 at her home. She was born July 19, 1959, in Forsyth County, a daughter of Charles Elliott and Julia Walker Elliott. She was a former employee of Baptist Hospital as a CNA. She was a longtime member of the Vienna Civic Club and the Rust and Dust Club. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Surviving are her sister, Gail Elliott of Pfafftown; brothers Baxter Elliott of Winston-Salem and Mark Elliott and wife Pam of Advance; nephews Johnathan Elliott, Chris Elliott and David Elliott; a niece, Julie Elliott; and several aunts and uncles and many friends.
Funeral services were held at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel with Rev. Wilson Wahl officiating. Burial followed in Forsyth Memorial Park.
Terry Culler
Terry Culler, 65, of Clemmons died March 9 at his home. He was born in Clemmons on January 23, 1940, to James Oscar and Lelia Goin Culler. He served in the U.S. Army. He retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Clemmons Jaycees and West Side Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Bates Culler of the home; two daughters, Dana L. Young and husband Robert B. and Stacy R. McNeill and husband Gregory S.; a son, Jay K. Culler and wife Crystal; three granddaughters, Heather Young, Madison Culler and Jennie McNeill; a grandson, G. Shane McNeill Jr; and a sister, Kathryn C. Kennedy of Boonville.
Funeral services were held at Vogler & Sons Clemmons Chapel with Rev. Arnett Harris officiating. Burial followed in Westlawn Gardens of Memory.
Nellie Beckel Byerly
Nellie Beckel Byerly, 85, of Clemmons died March 9 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born on July 9, 1919, in Forsyth County, to Burl J. and Lena Bell Williard. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Clemmons. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Dee Beckel and Norman A. Byerly; a daughter, Lena Beckel; a brother, Edd Williard; and a grandson, Ryan Byerly.
Surviving are two daughters, Betty White and special friend George Jones of Clemmons and Kay Broome and husband Crelly of Arcadia; a son, Lee Byerly and wife Cheyrl of Clemmons; three grandchildren, Crystal Rogers and husband Shawn of Clemmons, Mike White and wife Kelly of Mocksville, and Dee White and wife Christina of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held at Centenary United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Randy Lucas officiating.
Esther Beatrice Pennington Phillips
Esther Beatrice Pennington Phillips, 84, of Mocksville died March 9 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem. She was born on April 18, 1920, in Ashe County to the late Luke and Bessie Phillips Pennington. She was retired from Monleigh Garment Co. She was a very active member of Liberty Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Helper’s Class, a Sunday school teacher and sang in the church choir. She was a member of the Mocksville Senior Citizens. She enjoyed flower gardening, sewing for her family, cooking, quilting and crocheting. She was preceded in death by two sons, Cecil Phillips and Charles Phillips.
Surviving are five daughters, Faye Barneycastle and husband Spence of Ellejay, Ga., Wilma Reavis and husband Lowell, Betty Harris and husband Donnie, Patsy Bolin and husband Lindsay, all of Mocksville, and Carolyn Price and husband Rick of Clemmons; three sons, James Phillips and wife Janette of Robbinsville, Bobby Phillips and wife Ardella and Lester Phillips, all of Mocksville; two sisters, Willie Green of Washington State and JoAnn Moore of Waynesburg, Ky.; two brothers, Brantley Pennington of Hickory and Ronnie Pennington of Lexington, Ky.; daughter-in-law Mary Lee Boger of Mocksville; 25 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Liberty Baptist Church with Rev. Marvin Blackburn officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Bettie Shields Manuel
Bettie Shields Manuel, formerly of Winston-Salem, died March 12. She was born March 30, 1930, in Forsyth County to the late Douglas and Thelma Bullard Shields. She was a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Jane Starbuck and husband Phillip of Kernersville; sons Kenneth E. Manuel and wife Judy of Clemmons and Ralph V. Manuel and wife Donna of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren, Brian K. Manuel and wife Tammy of Kernersville, P. Christopher Starbuck of Winterville and Cameron, Chase and Corey Manuel of Winston-Salem; two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Kaden Manuel of Kernersville; and a sister, Frances Blakley- of Kernersville.
A graveside service was held at Parklawn Memorial Park.
Andrea Claire Wright
Andrea Claire Wright, 56, of Lewisville, formerly of Staten Island, N.Y., died March 11 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was born September 16, 1948, in New York, N.Y., to Francis Louis and Eleanor Hetzel Besanceney. She was employed by Wake Forest University. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Carol Wall and Barbara Gibson.
Surviving are three sons, Bill Wright and wife Amy of Lewisville, Mike Wright and wife Lara of Rural Hall and James Wright of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Christine Wright Bailey and husband James of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren, Joseph Wright, Mikayla Wright, Ethan Wright, Justin Bailey, Elaina Claire Bailey and Janelle Christine Wright; two sisters, Lorraine Sheehan and Eleanor Kozlowski; two brothers, Frank Besanceney and Eugene Besanceney; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was said at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel. Burial followed in Forsyth Memorial Park.
