Mr. Tommy Eugene McCrary
Mr. Tommy Eugene McCrary, 78, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2005, at the McDowell Hospital. Born May 21, 1926, in Caldwell County, he was a son of the late Samuel William McCrary and Jessie Maye Smith McCrary. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jerlene Jean McCrary.
He is survived by a niece, Pat Good, and husband, Brownie Good of Conover, NC; good friends, Jeff and Charlene Grindstaff, and their children, Celesta, Alicia, and J.D. Grindstaff, all of Marion.
He is also survived by a number of other nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. McCrary will be held 11:00AM, Saturday, March 12, 2005, at Kirksey Funeral Home in Old Fort with the Reverend Ross Lewis officiating. Interment will follow at the Old Fort City Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6:00 – 8:00PM, Friday, March 11, 2005, at the Old Fort Chapel.
Arrangements are in the care of Kirksey Funeral Home, Old Fort.
Mrs. Annie Campbell Benfield
Mrs. Annie Campbell Benfield, 79, of Morganton, died Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at her home. A native of Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late Marvin O. Campbell and Mary Wease Campbell.
Mrs. Benfield was a member of Drexel Community Baptist Church and was retired from Drexel Heritage.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas A. Benfield.
She is survived by daughters, Linda Chester of Valdese, Judy Owensby and Debbie Warlick both of Morganton; brothers, Edward Campbell of Rutherfordton, Perry Bryson and Marvin Lewis both of Morganton; sister, Marjorie Patton of Morganton, 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday, August 5th at Kirksey Memorial Chapel with Reverend Jerry Campbell presiding. Interment will follow the service at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service.

Alisha Brooke Gurley
Alisha Brooke Gurley, age 24, died on August 9, 2003 in an Asheville Hospital. She was the daughter of Allen and Debra Freshour Gurley of Marion. She attended and graduated from McDowell High School. She was a member of Cross Memorial Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents she is survived by a brother, Wesley Gurley and a sister, Whitney Gurley both of Marion. Grandmother Doris Freshour of Marion and Great Grandmother, Thelma Buchanan of Marion also survive.
Services will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2003, 11:00 o’clock. at Cross Memorial Baptist Church. Rev. Doug Prevette will officiate with burial following in McDowell Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 9:00 at Kirksey Funeral Home..

Mr. Leroy Benfield
Mr. Leroy Benfield, 70, of Morganton, died Wednesday, December 31, 2003, at Mission St. Joseph’s Hospital in Asheville. He was born on April 13, 1933 in Burke County to the late Richard Leroy Benfield and Rebecca Whisnant Benfield.
Mr. Dale was retired from Southern Devices.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Rebecca Benfield, Mary Lou McDade and Becky Ramsey; and brother, Dan Whisnant.
He is survived by sons, Shane Lee Benfield and Dennis Benfield both of Morganton; William Anthony (Andy) Benfield of Drexel; brothers, Ralph Benfield, Walt Benfield and Larry Benfield all of Morganton; sisters, Frances Setzer of Drexel and Helen Browning of Nebo.
Graveside services will be 3:00 PM Friday, January 2, 2004 at Burke Memorial Park with Reverend Eileen Thompson officiating. The family received friends at the home of Ralph and Lois Benfield Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday.

Miss Dorothy Louise Dodd
Miss Dorothy Louise Dodd, 63, of Marion, died Friday, May 28, 2004 at Grace Heights. Miss Dodd was born June 18, 1940 in Berea, Ky and was daughter of the late Dr. Wilson Dodd and Mary Sue Avery Dodd.
She is survived by her brother, Robert B. Dodd of Kissimmee, FL; sisters, Helen D. Bruner of Silver Spring, MD and Margi D. Schmidt of Stockton, CA.
A Graveside service will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 5, 2004 at Forest Hill Cemetery with Reverend John Woods officiating.

Mr. James Daniel Goodrum
Mr. James Daniel Goodrum, 82, of Marion, died Wednesday, March 8, 2005, at The McDowell Hospital. Born November 11, 1922, in McDowell County, he was a son of the late Jim Goodrum and Ida Mashburn Goodrum. In addition to his parents, Mr. Goodrum was also preceded in death by his wife, Alice Blanche Swepson Goodrum, three sisters, Bessie Logan, Rosie Jackson & Katherine Gainey, and a brother, Jack Goodrum. He was a Veteran of WWII, having served in the US Army.
He is survived by three daughters, Nancy Ann Goodrum, of Marion, Gloria Jean Goodrum, of Washington, DC and Pamela Goodrum, of Marion; A grandson, James Lamont Goodrum, of Marion; A great granddaughter, Olivia Goodrum, of Washington, DC; A special friend, Geneva Tate; Several nieces and nephews also survive Mr. Goodrum.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00PM, Sunday, March 13, 2005, in the McCall Memorial Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home, Marion, with the Reverend Cunningham officiating. Interment will follow at the Glades Cemetery, Marion with military Rites provided by the US Army. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Services at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Goodrum’s memory to The New Beginning Church, 40 Virginia Ave., Marion, NC 28752.
Imogene Smith Hogan
Imogene Smith Hogan, age 64, died Saturday evening at the residence. Born in Pickens, S.C. to the late John P. and Cuma Garrett Smith, she was a retired textile worker having worked with the Howard McCurry Factory. She was also a member of the Bethel Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Eugene Hogan and a brother, Harold Smith.
Surviving are her husband, Thomas L. Hogan; one daughter, Venetia Hogan of Marion; a daughter-in-law, Angela Hogan Collier and her husband Jeff of Marion; two brothers, Ronnie and Darrell Smith both of Marion; three sisters, Virginia Smith of Morganton, N.C., Vera Crisp of Marion, N.C. and Lavonne Clontz of Swannie, Ga; two grandchildren, Crystal Fortune, Beth Pierson; three great grandchildren, Alexandria Yates, Kearston Fortune and Katlin Fortune.
Services will be held at Kirksey Funeral Home, Marion on Tuesday, August 12, 2003 at 3:30 p.m. Rev. Ray Stockton will officiate with burial following in McDowell Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:30 prior to the service at the funeral home.

Faye Ellen Rutherford Wilson
Faye Ellen Rutherford Wilson, 72, of Harbison Road, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville.
A loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Mrs Wilson was a faithful member of Willow Tree AME Church.
She was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Clarence Rutherford, Johnny Rutherford and her twin brother, Franklin Rutherford and sister, Betty Jean Harbison.
She is survived by her mother, Pearl Rutherford Harbison of Morganton, daughter, Barbara Conley of Morganton; grandchildren, Barry Rutherford of Wisconisn and Gary Rutherford of Morganton; 4 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 4:00 P.M. Saturday, June 5th at Willow Tree AME Church with the Reverend Jas A. Hemby presiding. Interment will follow the service in the Rutherford and Conley Cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service.

Mr. Wilson Woodrow Duckworth
Mr. Wilson Woodrow Duckworth, age 88 of Morganton died Thursday, March 10, 2005 at Grace Hospital. He was born to the late Kenneth Jerome Duckworth and Ora Alice Rockett Duckworth on August 20, 1916 in Burke County. Mr. Duckworth was a lifelong member of Mount Home Baptist Church and was a talented musician and mechanic. He was a caring and humble man that loved his Lord. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
Along with his parents he is preceded in death by four brothers; and two sisters.
Surviving are his wife, Geneva Duckworth of the home; three sons, Harold "Butch" Duckworth and his wife Helen, Kenneth Duckworth and his wife Billie, and Wayne David Duckworth and his wife Rebecca Ann, all of Morganton; a daughter, Doreen Caudill and her husband Randy of Morganton; grandchildren, Johnny Shawn Duckworth and Harold Duckworth, Jr.; and two sisters, Maudie Cline and Bonnie Eply, all of Morganton. Also surviving are numerous other grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 12, 2005 at Kirksey Funeral Home. Interment followed at Mount Home Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverends Jerry Gamble and David Orders officiating.
The family received friends Saturday afternoon at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ruth Berryhill Warren
Mrs. Ruth Berryhill Warren, 84, of Marion, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, July 27, 2005, at Sunrise Rehabilitation & Care, Nebo. Born January 4, 1921, in Travelers Rest, SC, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Roy Berryhill and Hettie Emaline Davis Berryhill. Mrs. Warren was a member of the Hicks Memorial Baptist Church and she and Reverend Donald Warren were the founders of the Solid Rock Freewill Baptist Church, Marion. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Warren leaves behind to cherish her memory a daughter, Linda Hutchins and husband, John, of Marion; Four sons, Wayne Warren & wife Karen, Billy Warren & wife Debbie, and Charles Warren & wife Cindy, all of Nebo, and Freddie Warren & wife Pat, of Dysartsville; Three sisters, Sarah Toney, of Nebo, Betty Newton, of Morganton, and Katherine Ledbetter of Sumter, SC; Two brothers, Bobby and Larry Berryhill, both of Morganton; She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Warren will be held Graveside, 10:00AM, Saturday, July 30, 2005 at the Solid Rock Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Clifton McCurry officiating. The family will receive friends 6:00PM-8:00PM, Friday, July 29, at Kirksey Funeral Home. Memorials may be made in Mrs. Warren’s memory to Hospice of McDowell County, 218 Logan Street, Marion, NC 28752.
