LAURINBURG -- Mrs. Bessie Mae Bass, 74, of 9500 Stewartsville Cemetery Road died Wednesday in her home.
The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday in Butler Funeral Service chapel by Nancy Willard. Burial will be in Rogers Cemetery in McColl, S.C.
Mrs. Bass is survived by a son, Lonny G. Bass of Bennettsville, S.C.; a daughter, Terry D. White of Laurinburg; a brother, Prince Roberts of Cheraw, S.C.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight form 7 to 9 at the funeral home.
Patsy F. Bacon

ST. PAULS -- Mrs. Patsy F. Bacon, 56, of St. Pauls died Nov. 24.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Southview Baptist Church in Hope Mills by Chaplain W.A. McCoy.
Melvin D. Atkinson

LAURINBURG -- Melvin Dwight Atkinson, 59, of 9620 Deerfield Circle died Wednesday in his home.
Mr. Atkinson was self-employed business man. He was a member of Stewartsville Baptist Church.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Stewartsville Baptist Church by the Revs. Lewis McLean and Steve Owenby. Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park.
Mr. Atkinson is survived by his wife, June M. Atkinson of the home; two sons, Timothy D. Atkinson of Wendell and Melvin D. Atkinson Jr. of Roanoke, Va.; three stepsons, Harold R. Gunter of Conway, S.C., Terry J. Gunter of South Boston and Danny A. Gunter of Boonesville, Va.; two stepdaughters, Susan R. Hall of Sanford and Julie M. Gunter of the home; his mother, Winnie C. Houchin of Evansville, Ind.; two brothers, Joseph S. Atkinson Sr. of Desota, Texas, and Michael R. Atkinson of Pampano Beach, Fla.; a sister, Joy F. Hamlin of Raleigh; 12 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Boles Funeral Home & Crematory.

James Armfield

ANGIER -- James Armfield, 58, of 942 N. Broad St. died Tuesday in Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.
Elder Nathaniel Randolph will conduct the funeral at 2 p.m. Saturday in Dafford Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in Angier Community Cemetery.
Mr. Armifeld is survived by a daughter, Robin Armfield of Fayetteville; a sister, Mary Wynne of Lillington; and two brothers, Roosevelt Newton of Hampton, Va., and Jaycee Prayer of Fayetteville.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:30 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Brenza Wright, 902 N. Broad St.
Irene B. Wilson

ORANGEBURG, S.C. -- Ms. Irene Bass Wilson, 95, of Orangeburg, formerly of Bolton, N.C., died Friday in Methodist Oaks.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in McKenzie Mortuary chapel in Whiteville, N.C., by the Rev. Carroll Fonville. Burial will be in Powell Cemetery in Fair Bluff, N.C.
Ms. Wilson is survived by a daughter, Lois W. Wehrum of Santee; a son, John F. Wilson of Rocky Mount, N.C.; a sister, Avis W. Holder of Lake View; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Donald A. Hill

CARTHAGE -- Donald Avery Hill, 54, of Carthage died Thursday.
Mr. Hill formerly worked for FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst and Carter Laundry.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in New Home Baptist Church by the Rev. Jimmy Phillips. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Hill is survived by two brothers, Larry S. Hill of Pinehurst and David C. Hill of Aberdeen.

Margaret E. Baggett

DUNN -- Ms. Margaret Edith Baggett, 78, of Senior Citizens Village died Friday in Parrish Nursing Home.
The funeral will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Monday in Cromartie-Miller & Lee Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. James L. Summey. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Ms. Baggett is survived by four nephews; a niece; and several great-nephews and great-nieces.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in Johnson & Jenkins Funeral Home in Washington, D.C. Burial with military honors will be in Arlington National Cemetery. Local arrangements are being handled by Maultsby & Sons Funeral Home of Lumberton.
Mr. Walters is survived by his wife, Pamela T. Walters; two sons, Marcus Walters and Germain Walters, both of Alexandria; and several sisters and brothers.

Mr. Valenzuela is survived by his wife, Petra Santana of Sanford; a daughter, Yasmin Valenzuela of Sanford; a son, Guillermo Valenzuela Jr. of Sanford; his father and stepmother, Juan Valenzuela and Reina Anziso of Mexico; a brother, Humberto Valenzuela of Forest Park, Ga.; and two sisters, Asusena Valenzuela and Sonia Valenzuela, both of Mexico.

VASS -- Mrs. Johnsie Patterson Gunter, 73, of Vass died Saturday in her home.

Mrs. Gunter is survived by her husband, Ira Gunter; a son, I. Wesley Gunter Jr. of Vass; a brother, Hoover Patterson Sr. of Vass; and two grandchildren.

Harold D. McMillan

WADE -- Harold Davis McMillan, 71, of 4119 Goldsboro Road died Saturday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.
Mr. McMillan was a Marine veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart. Mr. McMillan was a member of McMillan Presbyterian Church. He was a maintenance supervisor for Cumberland County schools before retiring.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday in Old Bluff Presbyterian Church cemetery by the Revs. Ray Lammers and Billy H. Herring.
Mr. McMillan is survived by his wife, Virginia ‘‘Vallie’’ McMillan of the home; a daughter, Elizabeth V. ‘‘Beth’’ McMillan of Wade; a brother, Harry S. McMillan of Wade; a sister, Annie R. Jilcott of Roxobel; and a half sister, Tera Morris of Sanford.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville.

LUMBERTON -- Agnes Freeman Hickman, 78, of 210 E. 24th St. died Friday.
Mrs. Hickman was a retired bookkeeper and antiques dealer. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was a past president of the Lumberton Lady Lions Club.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in New Hollywood Cemetery by Dr. William P. Tuck and the Rev. Joe Bounds.
Mrs. Hickman is survived by her husband, Atlas Hickman of the home; a son, Danny Hickman of Dallas; and four grandchildren.

Preston J. Moreaux

Retired Army Sgt. Maj. Preston Joseph Moreaux, 66, of 6406 Irvington Court, Fayetteville, died Wednesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Ann Catholic Church by Fathers Thomas Davis and Ernest Ruede. Burial with military honors will be in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.
Mr. Moreaux is survived by his wife, Joyce Moreaux of the home; a son, Preston L. Moreaux of Fayetteville; two sisters, Thelma Henry of Humble, Texas, and Irene Palmer of Houston; a brother, James Moreaux of Houston; and a stepbrother, Whitney Damond of Sulphur, La.
The public will be received today from 1 to 5 p.m. at Wiseman Mortuary.
The rosary will be recited tonight from 6 to 8 at St. Ann Catholic Church.
