William Boyd Walters
William Boyd Walters, 84, of Winston-Salem died November 6 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born December 11, 1921, in Lumberton to the late Joseph Ellie Walters and Lou Fisher Walters. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and retired from Western Electric as a technical illustrator. He had three genealogical books published. He was preceded in death by a brother, Julian Burke Walters, and a sister, Betty Lou Walters.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Jane Walters; children, Gregory C. Walters and wife Marcia of Clemmons and Amanda Walters Crews and husband Don of Greenbelt, Md.
A memorial service was held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Memorials may be made to the Winston-Salem Rescue Squad, 2955. Liberty St., Winston-Salem, NC 27105, or to Senior Services, 2895 Shorefair Dr., Winston-Salem, NC 27105.

Juanita Hester Beroth
Juanita Hester Beroth, 81, of Clemmons died November 5 at Clemmons Village I after a lengthy illness. She was born January 28, 1925, in Forsyth County to Zeb and Lula McGee Hester. She was a homemaker, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack C. Beroth; three brothers; and two sisters.
Surviving are a son, Mark C. Beroth of Clemmons; a daughter, Debbie B. Jones and husband Bobby of Clemmons; two grandchildren, Matthew C. Beroth and wife Stacey of Kernersville, (and Matt’s mother, Kim Harvel), and Tab Friese and husband Erik of Charlotte; a great-grandson, Ben Friese; a sister, Mary Sawyer of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Aaron Hester and wife Shirley of Greensboro, and Colin Hester of Clemmons; a special sister-in-law, JoAnn Doub and husband M.G. of Conover; a brother-in-law, Gene Beroth of Winston-Salem; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. David Merritt officiating. Burial followed in Forsyth Memorial Park.

Wilhelmina Michael Whicker
Wilhelmina “Bunt” Michael Whicker, 99, of Kernersville died November 5 at Forsyth Medical Center. Born September 1, 1907, she was the daughter of the late Calvin Luther and Ellen Druzilla Michael. She was retired from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System where she served as Managing Dietician for Kernersville High School, East Forsyth High School, and Parkland High School. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church. She was an active member of Circle 3 of the United Methodist Women and she had received their Life Membership Pen. She was also recognized by the United Methodist Men for her distinguished service to their organization. She was a member of the Boyd Stafford Sunday School Class of Main Street United Methodist Church and the Heritage Club. She was a volunteer at the Shepherd’s Center as long as her health permitted. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kemp C. Whicker; a daughter, Nancy Whicker Foust; a son, Donald E. Whicker; a son-in-law Carl Campbell; and nine siblings.
Surviving are her daughters, Curtis Campbell and Judy Osborne and her husband Ronald of Kernersville; sister Ruby Shoaf of Tyro; daughter-in-law Dean Smith of New Bern; son-in-law Ben Foust of Siler City; nine grandchildren, Tom Campbell and wife Donese of Farmington, Bryan Campbell and wife Debby of Lawrenceville, Ga., Michael Foust and wife Donna of Siler City, Gene Whicker and wife Su of Rocky Mount, Alice Heitchue and husband Tom of Wilmington, Rodney Osborne and wife Christine of Alpharetta, Ga., Debbie Smith and husband Mike of Kernersville, Tracy Whitaker and husband Michael of Walkertown, Amy Cook and husband George of Kernersville; 19 great-grandchildren, Nancy Stonehouse and husband Chris of Clemmons, Coley Campbell and wife Jamie of Franklin, Va., Sarah and Leah Campbell of Lawrenceville, Ga., Tiffany and Nancy Foust of Siler City, Alexandria and Samantha Whicker of Rocky Mount, Amantha and Allison Heitchue of Wilmington, Matthew, Mallory and Meredith Osborne of Alpharetta, Ga., Casey and Jason Smith of Kernersville, Haley Cook of Kernersville, Brandon, Austin and Camryn Whitaker of Walkertown; three great-great-grandchildren Lydia and Kemp Stonehouse of Clemmons and Caleb Campbell of Franklin, Va.; and 15 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Main Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Don Lloyd, Rev. Dale Hilton and Dr. Al Ward officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Lewis Henry Minter
Lewis Henry Minter, 73, of Lexington died November 8 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born August 18, 1933, in Forsyth County to Cabel C. and Mary Elizabeth Willard Minter. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David Lewis Minter; a son-in-law, David Wilson, and a brother-in-law, Bill Minish.
Surviving are his wife, Ann Huff Minter of the home; two daughters, Lou Ann Wilson of Clemmons and Melinda Hughes of Lexington; five sisters, Elizabeth Marshall and husband James of Lexington, Martha Minish of Lexington, Mary M. Wilson and husband Gary of Kernersville, Becky Wassum and husband Eddie of Lexington and Ellen Hines and husband Terry of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Charles D. Minter and wife Bonnie of Lexington and William C. Minter and wife Zella of Lexington; grandchildren, Jonathan Miller and Traci Hughes; stepson, Reid Stancil and wife Pam of Kernersville; a stepgrandson; two great-step granddaughters and 17 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor Bud McCants and Pastor Simon Osunlana officiating. Burial followed in Parklawn Memorial Park.

Eleanor Rochester Craver
Eleanor Rochester Craver, 88, died November 5 in Covington, Ky., where she resided for nine years. She was born to Lucy and James Martin Rochester on June 11, 1918, in Jackson County, NC. On July 4, 1940, she married Ray John Craver, who preceded her in death in 1997. Her son, Norman Ray Craver; a grandson, Martin Emory Craver; and an infant granddaughter, Julie Christine Craver, also preceded her in death.
Surviving are her daughter, Carolyn Craver Wright and husband Creighton of Covington, Ky., a daughter-in-law, Ruby Yates Craver of Advance; six grandchildren: Steve Craver and Jill Craver of Clemmons, Creighton Wright Jr. of Nashville, Tenn., Benson Wright of Covington, Ky., Kathryn Wright Lindeman of Covington, Ky., and Elizabeth Wright Steger of Arlington, Va., nine great-grandchildren: Brian and Shannon Craver, Hope Comer, Colton Craver, Ashley and Creighton (Trip) Wright III, James Lindeman Jr., Benjamin and Susannah Wright, and seven siblings: Spicie Crane, Francis Burleson, Carrie Lou McMahan, Faye Rees, Edith Parker, John Rochester, and Melvin Rochester.
A graveside service was held at Center United Methodist Church Cemetery in Welcome.

Linda Butler Walker
Linda Butler Walker, 54, of Yanceyville died November 8 at the Hospice Home. She was born November 4, 1952, in Forsyth County to Dr. Radford Butler and Jane Butler, and was married for 22 years to James Michael Walker. She retired from the Division of Services for the Blind of Alamance County after 27 of service as a social worker. She attended Bethel Christian Church and was a member of the Mebane Lions Club and Alamance Council for the Blind.
Surviving are her husband and parents; a son, John Lawrence Walker of the home; a sister, Cynthia Minor of Winston-Salem; and three brothers, Norman Butler and wife Betty and Dick Butler and wife Lynne, all of Winston-Salem, and Dale Butler and wife Jackie of Lewisville.
A memorial service was held at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel.

Jack Duggins
Jack Duggins, 82, of Pfafftown died November 7. He was born May 1, 1924, in Guilford County to Tanny Lugene and Sarah Linnie Westmoreland Duggins. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was a retired truck driver. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in King.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Ethel Nelle Owen Duggins; two daughters, Shirley D. Moser and husband Don of Tobaccoville, and Donna D. Wooten and husband Eddie of King; grandchildren, Lisa Davenport and husband Chris and their daughter Kaitlyn of Pfafftown, Joey Moser and wife Stacy and their daughters Courtney and Taylor of Winston-Salem, and Eric Wooten and fiance Heather Lockamy of King; a sister, Nina Marler and husband Arzie of Pfafftown; a brother, Herman Duggins and wife Peggy of Rural Hall.
Funeral services were held at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastors Roger Baker, Kevin Broyhill, and Scott Vernon officiating. Burial with military honors followed in Forsyth Memorial Park.

Penny Ann Paschal
Penny Ann Paschal, 45, of Clemmons died November 6. She was born July 19, 1961, in Vernon, Texas, to Lawrence and Sylvia Paschal, Jr. As a child, she enjoyed several sports, including softball, swimming and basketball. As she grew older, she was well known for her artistic abilities. She had a passion for photography, and also enjoyed creating poems, pen-and-ink drawings, clay models and pottery. She was also a great fan of music, and enjoyed attending concerts with her friends. She also had a fondness for animals, especially dogs. She worked at Josten’s, compiling annuals for schools. She was awarded a ring for five years of dedicated service and outstanding work.
Surviving are her parents of the home; her brother, Gregory Paschal and wife Melissa of Browns Summit; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service was held at Westlawn Gardens of Memory Mausoleum Chapel in Clemmons. Memorials may be made to Mental Health Association, Inc., of North Carolina, 1509 S. Hawthorne Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.

Hattie Mitchell Mack
Hattie Mitchell Mack, 66, of Pfafftown died November 6. She was born January 3, 1940, to George A. and Mildred L. Mitchell in Winston-Salem. She resided in Winston-Salem from birth until 1973. She left to accompany her husband, Larnce, a member of the U.S. Air Force, to Washington, D.C., Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Pennsylvania. They then returned to reside in Pfafftown upon his retirement in 1987. They joined St. John C.M.E. Church in 1988, where she faithfully served as recording steward and a member of the missionary society for several years.
Surviving are her husband, Larnce J. Mack of Pfafftown; four sons, Curtiss Pauling and wife Sharon of Greensboro, Larry Pauling and wife Tru of Bowie, Md., Kevin Pauling and wife Debra and Ronald Pauling, both of Winston-Salem; two daughters, Pamela Knight and husband Aaron of Landover, Md., and Clevette Holbert of Winston-Salem; three sisters, Catherine King and husband Bronson of Winston-Salem, Margaret Ann Brown and husband Wesley of Madison and Gloria Barber of Winston-Salem; four brothers, George L. Mitchell and wife Pauline, James Mitchell and wife Dorothy, Sylvester Mitchell, and Alphonso Mitchell all of Winston-Salem ; an uncle, James Searcy of Stoneville; an aunt, Odessa Brown of Walnut Cove ; four grandsons; five granddaughters; three great-grandsons; a great-granddaughter; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held at St. John CME Church with Pastor Moses V. Goldmon officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery.

Kyrm Phillips
Kyrm Phillips, 68, of Winston-Salem died November 6. He was born December 1, 1937, to the late Walter and Lady Byrd Phillips. He retired from Bassick-Sack after 28 years of service. He accepted Christ and became a faithful member and deacon of New Patterson Grove Faith Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John Thomas Phillips and Robert Louis Phillips.
Surviving are his wife, Martha “Tootsie” Porter Phillips of the home; two daughters, Kerry Reynolds and Donna Martin of East Bend; three sons, Gerard Phillips and wife Janice of Yadkinville, Craig Martin and wife Ernestine of East Bend, and Ronald Martin of Wichita, Kan.; five sisters: Alice Porter, Lillie Mae Lambert and Eliza Myers and husbasnd Aldine of East Bend, Gail Phillips of Winston-Salem and Cora Lee Furches of Lewisville; six brothers: Walter Phillips and wife Shirley and Clarence Phillips and wife Alice of Pfafftown, James Phillips and wife Mandy of Winston-Salem, Paul Phillips and wife Shirley, Larry Phillips and wife Tamara, and William Phillips of East Bend; a sister-in-law, Cody Phillips of Winston-Salem; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and a loving church family.
Funeral services were held at New Patterson Grove Faith Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

John Andrew Seats
John Andrew Seats, 76, of Clemmons died November 9 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born October 17, 1930 in Davie County to Charlie Burton and Sadie Hutchens Seats. He was a longtime member of Clemmons United Methodist Church, a Masonic member for over 50 years and retired with 32 years of service with Piedmont Aviation. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dallas Seats and Gene Seats; one sister, Frances Powell; and a nephew, Darrell Harpe.
Surviving are his wife, Isabelle (Belle) Smith Seats of the home; a son, Marc (Andy) Seats; a daughter, Andrea Suggs and husband Robby of Clemmons; two grandchildren, Lauren and John Robert Suggs of Clemmons; a sister, Nan Harpe of Farmington; two nephews, Derek Harpe and wife Pam and Lamar Seats and wife Cheryl; and three nieces, Dianne Anderson and husband Jerry, Susan Hinson and husband Carroll and Angela Stauffer and husband Dan.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, November 19 at 3 p.m. at Clemmons United Methodist Church with Revs. Phillip Cole and Marcus Portis officiating. The family will receive friends in the Commons area of the church after the service.

Jane Lorraine Hall
Jane Lorraine Hall, 82, of Clemmons died November 5. She was born in Cortland County, NY and moved to Fort Lauderdae, FL in 1954. She then moved to Clemmons in 2005 with her son Timothy, daughter-in-law Linda and grandson Matthew. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman P. Hall, a U.S. Navy veteran who served in World War II, and her parents, Harry and Bertha Hoover.
Memorials can be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to the Wake Forest Baptist Hospital Cancer Care Unit.

Mary Harmon Ennis
Mary Harmon Ennis, 80, of Coats died November 10 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. She was born in Harnett County December 17, 1925 to the late Rufus Benton and Eula Stephenson Harmon. She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, William Clyde Ennis.
Surviving are her son, Clyde Ennis Jr. and wife Debbie of Lewisville; her sister, Millie H. Wiggins and husband Norman of Buies Creek; two grandchildren, Mary Kathryn Alexander and husband Chad and Melissa Sue Boythe and husband Luke; and two great-grandchildren, Chase Alexander and Andrew Boythe.
A graveside service was held at the Coats City Cemetery with Rev. Jesse Mooney and Luke Boythe officiating.

Ravon Poplin
Ravon Poplin, 71, of Winston-Salem died November 12 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in following a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born in Cabarrus County on April 10, 1935, the son of the late Lester and Wilma Helms Poplin. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in King. He had owned and operated both Reynolda Shell Service Station and Grandview Amoco. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lenore Day and Francis Campbell, and a brother, Keith Poplin.
Surviving are his wife, Rita Parrish Poplin of the home; three daughters, Robin O’Brien-Pettitt and husband Calvin of Tobaccoville, Felicia Palmer and husband Jack of King and Tracie Creason and husband Tommy of Clemmons; a son, Jeffery Poplin and wife Jacqueline of Fairfax, Va.; nine grandchildren, Seth and Sydney O’Brien, Brandon Pettitt, Riley and Donovan Poplin, Tyler and Cassie Palmer, Kyle and Kody Hutchens; two sisters, Maxine Snow and husband Robert and Rachel Snow and husband Fred, all of Winston-Salem; and two brothers, Don Poplin and wife Iris of Winston-Salem and Bobby Poplin of Irving, Texas.
Funeral services were held at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Roger Baker, Pastor Kevin Broyhill and Pastor Scott Vernon officiating. Burial with military Honors by King American Legion followed in Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall.

Myrle Mabe Fogleman
Myrle Mabe Fogleman, 74, of Liberty died November 13 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. She was born in Forsyth County on July 1, 1932, to the late Arthur and Mamie Largen Mabe. She was a Sunday school teacher and a lifelong member of Pleasant Hill Christian Church. She was a member of The Women’s Missionary Society. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Billy Dee Fogleman, who died in May; her grandchildren, Eric Duane and Joshua Dee Fogleman; and a brother, Barry Lee Mabe.
Surviving are a daughter, Sandy Brooks and husband Randy of Ramseur; sons, Keith Fogleman and wife Marilynn of Snow Camp, Kenny Fogleman and wife Laura of Lillington; sisters, Mary West of Lexington, Ann Pennell and husband Roland of Winston- Salem, and Brenda Atwood and husband Steve of Clemmons; brother, Ken Mabe and wife Frances of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, Shawn and Kevin Mahaley, Amanda Knighten and husband John, Chris Fogleman and wife April, Sarah, Matthew, and Mark Fogleman; and great-grandchildren, Jordan and Jeremy Mahaley and Olivia Knighten.
Funeral services were held at Pleasant Hill Christian Church with Rev. Howard Spray officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mohammad Vahid Sadat Nasseri
Mohammad Vahid Sadat Nasseri, 50, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008. He was born in Tehran, Iran, to Ghodsi Hamadi and Ahmad Sadat Nasseri. He was preceded in death by his father. He came to the U.S. in 1976 to continue his education. He was somewhat of a mathematical genius, making a perfect score on the SAT in math, when he barely knew the English language. He graduated with a B.S. in nuclear physics in 1982. He had a wonderful sense of humor and genuinely loved people. He was one who truly never met a stranger. He was formerly a member of Victory Baptist Church in Clemmons before starting his own ministry a few years ago. He was a spirit-filled believer who loved the Lord with all his heart, mind and soul. He was the owner of J&R Printers Inc. in Clemmons for over 23 years. He is survived by his wife of nearly 27 years, Sharon Vogt Nasseri; and two children, Monica (Stephen Watson) of Clemmons and Megan of the home; a very special grandson, Carter Monroe Watson, whom he loved more than life; his oldest sister, Azam (Ali, M.D.) Farahnakian of Bermuda Run; his nephew, Ali Reza Farahnakian; his niece, Lilly Farahnakian, both of New York; a special cousin, Faranak Gobaud of California; and other family members residing in Iran, including his mother, a brother and two other sisters. A memorial service was conducted Saturday, Aug. 9, at Vogler & Sons Clemmons Chapel, with the Rev. Tracy Webb officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Victory Baptist Church, 4765 Hampton Road, Clemmons, NC 27012.

Robert Lester Wade
Mr. Robert Lester Wade, 85, of Clemmons left our presence to enter the presence of our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, from the W.G. “Bill” Hefner V.A. Medical Center in Salisbury. His life began on Feb. 15, 1923 in Huntington, W.Va., from a hard-working, faith-based, dedicated family that shaped his character. As a young man he joined the U.S. Army, was stationed in Hawaii and experienced the bombing of Pearl Harbor of World War II. He served proudly for 20 years while furthering his education and his rank. He retired, honorably as a CWO second class. From there he was employed with McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft Corp. for 17 years. During and after both of these times, he had several small business ventures. His last and final commitment was with the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Department for 13 years before declining health forced him to stop. His vast love and devotion as a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, to God, his family and friends are cherished memories. His laughter and wit, his love of traveling, politics, sports, reading, music and fondness of good food complimented his essence. He will be truly missed by all. For all the medical professionals and personnel involved in the treatment and care of his health conditions for his aging body, we thank all of you very much. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry G. and Fannie M. Wade; a daughter, Diana Wade; a half brother, Harry G. Wade Jr.; half sisters Helen Copen and Irene Harbour of Huntington, W.Va.; a brother, John Wade of Huntington W.Va.; and a sister, Eva Hagaman of Naples, Fla. He is survived by his gracious, loving wife of 63 years, Mary E. Wade, 82, of Clemmons; and two sisters, Mary E. Griffith of Huntington, W.Va., and Pauline Sardis of Cincinnati, Ohio. He is also survived by daughters Mary Davis of Clemmons; Irene Miller of Texas; Donna Jones of California; and Deborah Dykeman of Florida; a son, Robert Wade II of Clemmons; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and 13 nieces and nephews and their children. The funeral service was conducted Sunday, Aug. 10, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with a graveside service following Monday, Aug. 11, at Salisbury National Cemetery. The Rev. Joe Heck will officiated.

Matthew Lee Carleton
Matthew Lee Carleton, 19, of Clemmons passed away unexpect-edly Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at Forsyth Medical Center. Matt was born Nov. 9, 1988, in Fairfax County, Va. He graduated from West Forsyth High School in 2007. Matt was active in baseball, cross country and swimming. He attended UNC-Wilmington and planned on entering the U.S. Coast Guard in October. Matt had a great love for the beach and water. He spent most of his summers as a swim coach and lifeguard. He loved teaching young swimmers. Matt was a gifted athlete and a genius working with computers. Preceding Matthew in death were his grandfathers, Louis Carleton and C.R. Melton Jr. He is survived by his parents, Richard and Wanda Carleton; and his brother Christopher, all of the home; maternal grandmother Bobbie Melton of Salisbury; paternal grandmother Luise Carleton of Winston-Salem; uncles Mike Carleton and wife Lori of Mount Holly; Dave Carleton and fiancee Angela Church of Clemmons; and Joey Melton and wife Jane of Salisbury; and cousins Laura and Dave Melton of Salisbury; Sara, Christopher and Gracie Carleton, all of Mount Holly; and Tanner Allen of Hickory. He also leaves behind special friends Ian Kelly, Joe Yeager, Josh Downs, Seth McVay and Mallory Sutton; and many, many others. A celebration of life service was conducted Aug. 11, at Lewisville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Keith Bingham and the Rev. Terry Matthews officiating. Memorials may be made in Matt’ s memory through Lewisville United Methodist Church, 6290 Shallowford Road, Lewisville, NC 27023.

Lucille Dugan Nichols
Mrs. Lucille Dugan Nichols, 86, passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at the Palliative Care Unit at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born January 1, 1922 in Cook County, Illinois. Mrs. Nichols was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church and was Auxillary President of the VFW Post 9010 in Clemmons since 1977. She retired from Eckerd Pharmacy with 20 years of service. Preceding her in death was her husband, Lawrence Eugene Nichols and a son, Lary Strom. Surviving are her children, John Strom, Thomas Strom, Kathleen Causey, George Nichols, and Sherri Caldwell; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Jeanette Van Beek and a brother, John Dugan. A wake service was held Friday, August 8, 2008 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Father Conall McHugh officiating. Burial followed at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family would like to send special appreciation to all her friends and associates at the VFW.
