Retired Army Master Sgt. Joe A. Brown, 77, of 514 Langdon St., Fayetteville, died March 30 in Elderlodge Nursing Home.
A graveside service will be conducted at noon Wednesday in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.
Mr. Brown is survived by a son.
The public will be received today from 1 to 8 p.m. at Wiseman Mortuary.

RED SPRINGS -- John Kelly Blackburn Jr., 64, of 413 Ingle Drive died Wednesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Crumpler Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Hedrick Jones. Burial will be in the Blackburn family cemetery.
Mr. Blackburn is survived by his wife, Donna I. Blackburn of Red Springs; five sons, David W. Blackburn, Johnathon W. Blackburn, John W. Blackburn, John K. Blackburn III and Kelly Blackburn, all of Red Springs; two daughters, Dorothy A. Blackburn and Theresa R. Blackburn, both of Red Springs; a brother, L. B. Blackburn of Texas; two sisters, Geneva B. Watson of Texas and Betty J. Copper of South Carolina; and three grandchildren.

MAXTON -- John L. Barton, 62, of 1140 Ozeley Road died Monday in his home.
The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Sycamore Hill Holiness Church by the Rev. Johnny Chavis and Billy Clark and Terry Cummings. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery.
Mr. Barton is survived by his wife, Annie R. Barton of Maxton; two sons, Jeff Barton and Danny Barton, both of Maxton; four daughters, Sherlene Chavis, Kimberly A. Chavis and Carol Collins, all of Maxton, and Laurie A. Jacobs of Lumberton; his mother, Annie R. Barton of Maxton; two brothers, Sanford Barton and Donald Barton, both of Maxton; four sisters, Callie M. Bullard, Hazel Bryant and Lannie Chavis, all of Maxton, and Meta Cooper of Wagram; and 16 grandchildren.
The family will be receive friends tonight beginning at 7 at Thompson’s Funeral Home of Pembroke.
Mrs. Beatrice M. Abbott

Mrs. Beatrice Massengill Abbott, 88, of 4871 Doc Bennett Road, Fayetteville, died Sunday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Mount Pisgah Baptist Church by the Rev. Ray Ammons. Burial will be in LaFayette Memorial Park. Arrangements are being handled by Rogers and Breece Funeral Home.
Mrs. Abbott is survived by a daughter, Christine A. Wood of Fayetteville; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Lexie ‘Bill’ Smith

JOHNSONVILLE -- Lexie ‘‘Bill’’ Smith, 61, of N.C. 27 West died Friday in Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today in Rogers Memorial Chapel. Arrangements are being handled by Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith is survived by four daughters, Tammy Helms, Bonnie Smith and Connie Atkins, all of Johnsonville, and Billie Smith of Tampa, Fla.; a son, Jeffrey Smith of Johnsonville; two brothers, Johnny Smith and Ray Smith, both of Sanford; three sisters, Linda Keshick of Escanba, Mich., Faye Smith of Cameron and Kaye Hall of Olivia; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Dallas ‘Bud’ Oxendine
LUMBERTON -- Dallas ‘‘Bud’’ Oxendine, 42, of 3622 Shannon Road died Friday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Oxendine was a self-employed brickmason. He was a member of Galilee Baptist Church.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Galilee Baptist Church in Red Springs by the Revs. Terry Locklear, Rick Deese, Kenneth Locklear and Don Bullard. Burial will be in Oxendine Cemetery in Union Chapel.
Mr. Oxendine is survived by his wife, Lula T. Oxendine of the home; a son, Dallas Oxendine Jr. of Shannon; a stepson, Donald L. Chavis of Lumberton; his mother, Luizer Oxendine of Shannon; a brother, Johnny Oxendine of Lumberton; four sisters, Gercha Oxendine and Alice Lowery, both of Shannon, Barbara Oxendine of Pembroke and Peggy Locklear of Lumberton; and two grandchildren.

LAKE VIEW, S.C. -- Ms. Mary Nancy Leach, 76, of Lake View, formerly of Rowland, N.C., died Friday in St. Eugene Hospital.
The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Reedy Branch Baptist Church in Clio by the Rev. David N. Patterson Jr. Burial will be in Southern Grove Baptist Church cemetery in Rowland.
Ms. Leach is survived by two sons, Andrea Leach and Chals McCall, both of the home; three brothers, Joseph Southern, Jessie Southern and John Southern, all of Rowland; and four sisters, Flossie Braddy of Whiteville, N.C.; Ella McLean and Helen McLean, both of High Point, N.C., and Margarita Graham of Rowland.

Mr. Kelly was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
